  • Space design is a process of solving spatial problems to create and construct all kinds of human lives. It also bestows new values to a medium to induce human perception based on the relationships between 'human and space' surrounding people. Research on user behavior has several ultimate goals including understanding both individual behavior and the relations between the user and space from a more scientific and systematic perspective, predicting various phenomena that can happen between space and humans, and reflecting the results in space design. As user behavior that's once limited within given space is going through some changes due to the introduction of digital technologies, research on user behavior in today's space design should be newly illuminated in the aspects of organic relations. Space now works as a receptor communicating with the user and responding to user behavior, and user behavior once under one-sided influences from space becomes more diverse and active. The influences of user behavior, in turn, cause changes to space itself. Thus this study set out to suggest new directions in research on user behavior based on interactions between space and the user in space design.

Application of Motion Analysis to User Participation Behavior Model: Focused on Interactive Space

  • Objective: The goal of this research is to develop new user behavior model using user motion analysis with microscopic perspective for attracting user's participation in interactive space. Background: The interactive space is 'human's place', which is made up of complex elements of digital virtual space and traditional analog and physical environment based on human-computer interaction system. Human behavior has changed in it at the same time. If the user couldn't make participation in interaction, the purpose of the system is not met, which reduces its effect. Therefore, we need to focus on interactive space that is potential future direction from a new point of view. Method: For this research, we would discuss and study fields of interactive space; (1) finding definition of interactive space and studying background of theory about it. (2) providing base of user behavior model with study of user's context that is to be user information and motion. (3) examining user motion, classify basic motion type and making user participation behavior model in phases. Results: Through this process, user's basic twenty motions which are systematized are taken as a standard for analysis of interaction process and participation in interactive space. Then, 'NK-$I^5$ (I Five)' model is developed for user participation types in interactive space. There are five phases of user participation behavior: Imperception, Interest, Involvement, Immersion, and Influence. In this analysis, three indicators which are time, motion types, and user relationship are found to be related to participation. Conclusion: The capabilities and limitation of this research is discussed to attract user participation. This paper focuses especially on contribution of design to lead user's participation in interactive system and expectation to help adapt to user centered design of various interactive space with new aspect of user behavior research. Application: The results of the 'NK-$I^5$ (I Five)' model might help to realize successful interactive space based on user centered design.

사용자 중심의 주거 실내공간 감성평가도구 개발 (The Development of Sensibility Evaluation Tools for User-Oriented Housing Interior Space)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the user-oriented housing interior space sensibility evaluation tools: The user-oriented housing interior space sensibility evaluation tools shall be developed through the systematic selection process of the extracted housing interior space images, which were linked with the adjectives of sensibility evaluation selected for the housing interior space preferred by the user from the specific words of the sensibility extracted to identify the characteristics of the user's sensibility which is recently being changed. In the results of analyzing the words of sensibility for the residential space preferred by the users with 48 pairs of adjectives. The user-oriented sensibility assessment tool was built by extracting 8 sensibility factors of 'cozy', 'practical' 'cheerful', 'traditional', 'unique', 'congenial', 'sensuous', and 'gorgeous' in the exploratory factor analysis. The image scale was constructed in two-dimensions of the sense of space and the type of space for the residential interior space images. The dimension of the 'sense of space' is explained by the axis of open-closed and the dimension of 'type of space, is explained by the axis of 'natural-artificial'. Such a structural model of the residential interior design attributes were divided into 8 groups. And the 42 images representing each group were selected and the user-oriented residential interior space image tool was built by adding user's selective elements.

Zephyr 커널에서 커널 공간과 사용자 공간의 분리 구현 (Separation of Kernel Space and User Space in Zephyr Kernel)

  • The operating system for IoT should have a small memory footprint and provide low power state, real-time, multitasking, various network protocols, and security. Although the Zephyr kernel, an operating system for IoT, released by the Linux Foundation in February 2016, has these features but errors generated by the user code can generate fatal problems in the system because the Zephyr kernel adopts a single-space method that both the user code and kernel code execute in the same space. In this research, we propose a space separation method, which separates kernel space and user space, to solve this problem. The space separation that we propose consists of three modifications in Zephyr kernel. The first is the code separation that kernel code and user code execute in each space while using different stacks. The second is the kernel space protection that generates an exception by using the MPU (Memory Protection Unit) when the user code accesses the kernel space. The third is the SVC based system call that executes the system call using the SVC instruction that generates the exception. In this research, we implemented the space separation in Zephyr v1.8.0 and evaluated safety through abnormal execution of the user code. As the result, the kernel was not crashed by the errors generated by the user code and was normally executed.

전문대학도서관의 공간구성 특성에 따른 이용만족도 연구 (A study on user Satisfaction of the Junior College Library based on its Characteristics of Space Composition)

  • This study is about user satisfaction of the Junior College Library based on its characteristics of space composition. For this, we studied characteristics of space composition targeting the libraries in colleges in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. First, in case of study of characteristics of space composition for books and library data, student satisfaction for traditional and normal library areas was high. It means that the service based on library areas should start from normal library areas as well as there is a change about space as the type of data in libraries change to electric data and multimedia. Second, If we look at the space for a reader and a user, satisfaction for a normal reading room was high. we can also see that satisfaction for a computer room and a multimedia reading room was not higher but still high. Also, the reason why satisfaction for a multimedia reading room that provides various activities was high was that the complex of a library space is needed to provide users with various activities. Third, in case of space for programme function and meeting, satisfaction for the room of video information and the group study room was high. we can see that user satisfaction for the space got high basically when a user is satisfied with the proper information technology based on interaction Fourth, as a result of variance analysis of 3 spaces of Junior College Library and the services, the size of the space of service does not influence user satisfaction directly. Even the space is small, if it decorates variously like with a lighting for a user, a window seat to meet the nature of users and has specific factors such as space reservation using internet, user satisfaction is high. If we summarise the result of this study, to make user satisfaction for speace in a Junior College Library higher, not just we need to try to make it extend as a educational, a cultural place but we also need to accept the student's requirement that the space also needs to be extend as a complex cultural space.

사용자인식 분석을 통한 캠퍼스 외부공간 개선방향 설정에 관한 사례연구 - 부산시 소재 대학을 중심으로 - (A Case Study on the Exterior Space Improving in University Campus through the Analysis of User's Cognition - Focused on Campuses in Busan City -)

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest a basis for exterior space improving in university campus in terms of upgrading the quality of university education environment by analysing user's cognition and physical feature about campus exterior space. For this, this study was survey six major university students in Busan city about perception of campus exterior space, and analyzes the user's cognition by using natural-language vocabulary analysis for qualitative approach. Next, this study analyzes the physical feature of campus exterior space by investigating user's intensive using spaces and preferred, non-preferred spaces in their universities, then propose the improved direction of campus exterior space by comparing the analyzed data of user's cognition and physical feature. A SPSS20 program is used for the data analysis and the sample sizes are 171 college students.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze about the extension of user experience in the digital space. Through the digital technology and virtual space, the city's new environment is being changed. it makes people activate their aesthetic experience. Simultaneously, it elevates satisfaction levels regarding people's aesthetic experience. Research methods and settings of the range to study on the Extension of User Experience are as follows: First, establish digital space's characteristics comparing digital space at the structural change-points in modern society. Second, experience's approch way through the digital media in the contemporary space. And understand the concept about a variety of User Experience. Third. to classify the elements of access control for the user experience. Experience is being expanded through the generation process. Fourth, investigate analysis of the case studies, focused on the architecture and space design_Media installations that appear in the city park, the city's landmark buildings facade, the building facade by offering commercially applied for brand marketing_ announced through the media recently. Also, it is to look at the physical elements through digital media and to analyze the applicability of the public space. Therefore, the new approach to digital implementation shall be determined by looking in the direction of the user approaches.

사용자 중심 디자인 기반 교실 공간 설계 (A Classroom Space Design based on User Centered Design)

  • This study aims to design educational space that will respond to changing educational curriculum and creative educational activities. The study was conducted with user centered design method in which students and teachers who actually use space participate directly in space design, moving away from the one-sided approach by experts. The design of educational space, which is the subject of this study, was carried out by the opinions of users and the opinions of users were collected through the descriptive and mapping measure forms by analyzing previous researches and actual space cases on user centered design. Based on the opinions collected by the survey form, total four spaces, Type A, two Type B, and Type C, were designed. The fact that the user directly commented on the space plan to be used and actually participated in the space design would be helpful for users' deep interest in the results of this study and students' academic improvement.

대학도서관 시설기준에 관한 연구 (A study on standards for college and university library building areas)

  • This study is to set up a model of minimum and optimum standards for college and university library building areas in Korea. The results of this study are summarized as follows: 1. minimum standards(proposal) At first, Areas needed by factors of space component are as follows: User space --- 0.45 $m^{2}$ per student. Collection space --- 0.0107 $m^{2}$ per volume Staff space --- 10.1 $m^{2}$ per person Space attached to user, collection and staff space --- 5% of the sum of user, collection and staff areas(0.041 $m^{2}$ per student). Nonassignable space --- 25% of the sum of user, collection and staff areas (0.21 $m^{2}$ per student). Next, the formula to calculate the total area of the college and university library building is as follows: N = 0.45T $m^{2}$(a) + 0.0107V $m^{2}$(b) + 10.1S $m^{2}$(c) + 0.05(a+b+c) $m^{2}$, NS = 0.25N $m^{2}$. 2. Spatial Information Based Simulator for User Experience's Optimization

  • In this paper, we propose spatial information based simulator for user experience optimization and minimize real space complexity. We focus on developing simulator how to design virtual space model and to implement virtual character using real space data. Especially, we use expanded events-driven inference model for SVM based on machine learning. Our simulator is capable of feature selection by k-fold cross validation method for optimization of data learning. This strategy efficiently throughput of executing inference of user behavior feature by virtual space model. Thus, we aim to develop the user experience optimization system for people to facilitate mapping as the first step toward to daily life data inference. Methodologically, we focus on user behavior and space modeling for implement virtual space.
