ISDN 가입자 - 망 접속에서의 실험적 경험에 대한 고찰 (ISDN Experimental Experiences on User-Network Interfaces)

  • With the contunuing trends towards an information based society, telecommunications services are becoming an integral part of social activities. So, emphasis on ISDN is growing rapidly and placed on supporting integrated services delivery of different levels to the end user. The end user’s perception of an integraged services delivery(in particular, ISDN services) should reflect three interrelated capabilities, ISDN access capabilities and ISDN network capabilities. For turning the ISDN concept of above capabilities into reality, we have implemented the experimental system on user-network interfaces, which are three kinds of implementations in user access arrangements, namely basic access, intermediate rate multiplexed access and primary rate multiplexed access. Through these implementations, NTE(Network Terminating Equipment) is used for single basic access [2B+D], IMUX (Intermediate rate Multiplexer) for 4 basic accesses [4X(2B+D)] and PMUX(Primary rate Multiplexer) for [10/12 X (2B+D)]. This paper describes the outlines of system features on user access equipments, system architectures of testbed and experiment result of each access arrangements.

Designing a Vibrotactile Reading System for Mobile Phones

  • Vibrotactile feedback is widely used in designing non-visual interactions on mobile phones, such as message notification, non-visual reading, and blind use. In this work, novel vibrotactile codes are presented to implement a non-visual text reading system for mobile phones. The 26 letters of the English alphabet are formed in an index table with four rows and seven columns, and each letter is mapped using the codes of vibrations. Two kinds of vibrotactile codes are designed with the actuator's on and off states and with specific lengths (short and long) assigned to each state. To improve the efficiency of tactile perception and user satisfaction, three user experiments are conducted. The first experiment explores the maximum number of continuous vibrations and minimum vibration time of the actuator's on and off states that the human can perceive. The second experiment determines the minimum interval between continuous vibrations. The vibrotactile reading system is designed and evaluated in the third experiment according to the results of the two preceding experiments. Results show that the character reading accuracy reaches 91.7% and the character reading speed is approximately 617.8 ms. Our method has better reading efficiency and is easier to learn than the traditional Braille coding method.

디지털 미디어 환경에서 사용자 환경 모드에 따른 색채 인지 특성 연구 (A Study on the Characteristics of Colour Perception According to Light and Dark Mode in the Digital Media Environment)

  • 디지털 미디어 환경은 디지털 매체를 다각화시키면서 사용자 중심의 다양한 형태로 접근하고 있다. 디지털 기술의 발전에 의해 디지털 미디어 환경은 광대한 네트워크 정보망을 형성하고 보다 인터렉티브한 커뮤니케이션을 지원함으로써 이와 관련 사용자 중심의 기초 연구가 필요하다. 디지털 미디어 환경을 대표할 수 있는 모바일 디스플레이는 휴대성이 높은 장점을 갖고 있지만 소형화와 전력절감을 위해 얇은 디스플레이 패널과 저성능 이미지 센서를 채택하는 등 대형 디스플레이에 비해 색상 표현력이 떨어질 수밖에 없다. 본 연구에서는 대표적 디지털 융합 매체인 모바일 디스플레이를 구체적 연구대상으로 사용자 중심의 다크 모드와 라이트 모드에서 시감적 색채 인지특성에 대해 알아보고자 한다. 시감적 색채 인지 특성을 알아보고자 KS 12가지 색채를 기반으로 색채 속성을 각각 제어하여 정신물리학 실험을 진행하고 이를 분석하였다. 본 연구에서는 진행된 실험 결과를 분석하여 다크 모드와 라이트 모드에서 색채 인지에 차이가 있는지 알아보고 색채 인지 특성에 대한 기초 연구 자료로써 유의미 여부를 정의한 후 향후 연구방향을 제시한다.

Genetic Algorithm based Relevance Feedback for Content-based Image Retrieval

  • This paper explores a content-based image retrieval framework with relevance feedback based on genetic algorithm (GA). This framework adopts GA to learn the user preferences using the similarity functions defined for all available descriptors. The objective of the GA-based learning methods is to learn the user preferences using the similarity functions and to find a descriptor combination function that best represents the user perception. Experiments were performed to validate the proposed frameworks. The experiments employed the natural image databases and color and texture descriptors to represent the content of database images. The proposed frameworks were compared with the other two relevance feedback methods regarding effectiveness in image retrieval tasks. Experiment results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method.

  • New media which appeared in accordance with the development of IT technology includes elements of the interaction to be developed as an interactive media. In the field of interactive media which can be most actively applied, there is the filed of experience exhibition based on the active participation of people who experienced. Interactive media applied to the experience exhibition area, in order to have an effective communication that is based on a high degree of immersion, has been utilized as a platform for educational contents. This study is intended to explore the elements of visual perception for developing an optimized interface in the perspective of children who are the main subject of educational contents to present the criteria for the development of an interface for children. Thus, this paper derives the elements by the analysis of the visual perception elements of children and the experiment for the immersion environment. By analyzing the results, this study is to present the criteria of the visual perception elements for the development of interactive media contents for children.

학습용 에이전트 의인화 설계 요인: 인간성과 역할을 중심으로 (Anthropomorphic Design Factors of Pedagogical Agent : Focusing on the Human Nature and Role)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 스마트폰을 통해 외국어(영어)를 학습하는데 있어 사용자 경험을 제고할 수 있는 학습 에이전트의 의인화 설계 요인을 검증하는 것이다. 이 연구에서는 콘텐츠를 전달하는 학습용 에이전트를 설계할 때 학습 촉진, 신뢰, 매력 인식에 영향을 미치는 의인화 요인 중 에이전트의 체화 유무, 인간적 본성(HN)의 부여 정도, 역할 설정(지도자 vs. 동반자) 효과를 실험 연구로 검증하였다. 실험결과 HN은 단독으로는 학습 촉진 효과가 나타나지 않았으며, 이미지와 역할은 학습 촉진 효과뿐 아니라 다른 사용자 경험 요인도 향상시켰다. HN요인은 이미지와 역할 요인과 결합되어 설계될 때, 학습 촉진 및 신뢰성, 매력성과 같은 전반적인 사용자 경험 효과에서 효과가 나타났다.

The effectiveness of HMD-based virtual environments through 3D camera for hotel room tour

  • Many of hotel customers obtain information from hotel websites to find the best alternative. One of the crucial information for the choice is spatial/visual information of hotel rooms. However, hotel website provides photographs only showing representative room features that may not be sufficient to give a full understanding of hotel room to customers. HMD-based 3D virtual environments (HVE) created by 3D camera could improve customers' experiences of hotel rooms by providing full virtual tours of hotel rooms. However, to the best of our knowledge, whether HVE can adequately provide similar customers' perception on spatial/visual information remains unproven as physical hotel rooms. The present study thus aims to verify how similar and reliable information on physical hotel room HVE provides to hotel customers in comparison with hotel website with 2D photograph and display-based 3D virtual environment. For this purpose, this study conducted a comparative experiment to investigate perception of three environments. As a result, the study found that HVE is more effective to provide spatial/visual information as similar as an actual hotel room. In addition, HVE increases customers' perceptions towards the reliability of information, the quality of hotel room and intention to book.

사용자 인지 실험 기반 쉐이딩 알고리즘 평가 (Shading Algorithm Evaluation based on User Perception)

  • 본 논문에서는 기존에 제시된 쉐이딩 알고리즘들이 음영 표현을 통해 3차원 물체의 형태를 효과적으로 전달하는지 평가하고 검증한다. 8가지 스타일로 쉐이딩된 10개의 3차원 물체 중의 한 개의 이미지를 사람들에게 보여주고 물체 표면의 여러 곳의 위치에서 곡면의 법선 벡터와 일치하도록 측정기(gauge)의 방향을 조정하도록 요청하는 스터디를 수행한다. 이 실험에서 수집한 법선 벡터 추정치가 사람들 간에 서로 일치하는지 비교하고 또한 실제 3차원 곡면 모델의 법선 벡터와 일치하는지도 비교한다. 본 논문의 실험을 통하여 물체의 음영을 표현하는 방법에 따라서 사람들이 물체의 형태를 다르게 해석한다는 사실을 보인다. 또한, 기존의 쉐이딩 알고리즘들 중에서 음영 톤의 단계수가 많고 톤 단계가 전반적으로 균일하게 분포되어 있는 특성을 가지는 알고리즘이 물체의 형태를 보다 효과적으로 표현하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 논문에서 수집한 실험 데이터 및 분석 결과는 물체의 형태를 효과적으로 전달하는 것을 목적으로 하는 새로운 CG 쉐이딩 알고리즘을 설계하는데 활용 가능할 것으로 기대된다.

가상모델하우스의 유형에 따른 사용자 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on the User's Evaluation for the Visual Types of Virtual Model House)

  • In Korea, the construction company has provided houses through apartment sales system. Residents have obtained a variety of information about their future house by visiting a sample house called "the model house" before they purchase home. Advanced technology such as web-based VOD or Virtual Model in recent years has gradually replaced those built environment. In 2009, the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs announced the restraint to the construction of sample houses. Instead, they highly recommended a Virtual Model House as an alternative solution. This study aimed to propose how to design the user-oriented virtual model house through the experiment and survey research. The 3D virtual model house of 85m$^2$ apartment was built and presented by two types (Type A: Bird's Eye View, Type B: Walk through View) on the web page. The subjects evaluated presence, spatial perception and cognition, and usability of each type after exploring them. The results are as follows. (1) The subjects' evaluation of presence showed Type B has more negative effects than Type A such as feeling dizzy or tired even if their values were not so high. (2) The subjects perceived and cognized both types of virtual model house more realistic for the expression of volume of space, the size of opening, and the arrangement of furniture than that of wall finishes and materials. (3) The usability of Type A was significantly higher than that of Type B.

가구 디자인에 있어서 감성적 기능의 개념에 대한 연구 -현대 아트퍼니처 작품분석을 중심으로- (A Study on the Concept of Emotional Function in Furniture Design -Focused on the Analysis of Contemporary Art Furniture-)

  • This article aimed at broadening the view on 'the concept of function' in furniture design. In this context, we argued that the established concept of furniture function has confined itself to the rational perspective, so that the emotional action and influence of furniture hardly regarded as an important issue in furniture design, and this has been a hinderance to multidirectional discussions on the meaning of furniture in our life. Starting from the investigation on the basis that forms the different dimensions of our experience of furniture, we clarified that we should view the meaning of furniture within a wider sphere where the actions of furniture on our perceptional, behavioral, and emotional levels are inclusively considered. In this light, 'emotional function' of furniture was defined as a concept that explains a multidimensional action of furniture, which leads creative aesthetic experience which enrich the interplays between designer, furniture, and user. The feasibility of the concept has been examined by an analysis on the characteristics of contemporary Art Furniture, which is experimental approaches towards various aesthetic values of art and design. In order to realize emotional function of furniture, furniture should become an experiment for the new perception and emotion; invite more of the user's interplay and action in the meaning-making process; and arouse emotional echoes and reflections within user's mind.
