  • Individual consumer characteristics change as the individual lifestyle changes. Each individual's unique lifestyle influences substantially the individual consumer behavior. Individual consumer's behavioral pattern varies significantly depending on the individual consumer's use of credit cards. Each individual's lifestyle or individual's perception of credit cards' brands and perceptual difference in qualities of credit cards' brands influence the individual's credit card selection. Credit card companies have been doing several researches in analyzing credit card users' lifestyle characteristics and consumer behavioral characteristics. However, researches on the relation of model structure among variables such as individual lifestyle, credit cards brand, quality perception of credit cards and credit card selection are not quite noticeable. Therefore, in this research we aim at providing a theoretical foundation with credit card companies by analyzing the relation of model structure among these factors.

  • The physical factors of Argiope bruennichi (Araneae, Araneidae) that influence the stabilimentum decoration on the web, a conspicuous white silk structure reflecting much more ultraviolet light than other spider silks in the web, have been poorly understood. In this study, individual variables involved in decorating the webs with stabilimenta by A. bruennichi were examined. The results revealed that the physical condition of the female A. bruennichi affected the behaviors of the stabilimentum decoration on the web. Among the 82 female spiders building their webs, the 49 female spiders adding upper and lower stabilimenta on their web weighed less, and had a narrower cephalothorax and shorter abdomen than the 33 female spiders that did not use stabilimentum. The heavier females decorated their webs with stabilimentum of greater widths. There were also significant positive relationships between the stabilimentum area and the female spider's cephalothorax width, and between the stabilimentum area and female spider's abdomen length. Taken together, this study suggests that spiders allocate their resources in stabilimentum decoration as a functional response to the spider's physical conditions, and also supports the "prey-attraction hypothesis," which states that the use of stabilimentum increases the foraging success by attracting more prey to the web.

  • The development of service-based software and web-based application aims for providing user-demand service. On-demand software is emerging for same reason. Software delivery models like on-demand software is expected to change the software industry as an important technical revolution with the firm's strategy. Few research, however, has been done on the on-demand software. While much research on ASP and SaaS focused on firm' use, this study intends to examine the intention of using on-demand software targeting personal user. The intention to use of on-demand software was empirically examined in terms of quality, user characteristics, usefulness, easy of use, and security. Results shows that usefulness and easy of use are most significantly related to the intention of using on-demand software. Other factors are also found to affect the intention to use of on-demand software. This study contributes to improve the understanding and interest in on-demand software and it is expected to spread widely for individual user.

  • In medical research, the risk factors associated with human diseases need to be identified to predict the incidence rate and determine the treatment plan. Logistic regression analysis is primarily used in order to select risk factors. However, individuals who are unfamiliar with statistics outcomes have trouble using these methods. In this study, we develop a nomogram that graphically represents the numerical association between the disease and risk factors in order to identify the risk factors for delirium and to interpret and use the results more effectively. By using the logistic regression model, we identify risk factors related to delirium, construct a nomogram and predict incidence rates. Additionally, we verify the developed nomogram using a receiver operation characteristics (ROC) curve and calibration plot. Nursing home, stroke/epilepsy, metabolic abnormality, hemodynamic instability, and analgesics were selected as risk factors. The validation results of the nomogram, built with the factors of training set and the test set of the AUC showed a statistically significant determination of 0.893 and 0.717, respectively. As a result of drawing the calibration plot, the coefficient of determination was 0.820. By using the nomogram developed in this paper, health professionals can easily predict the incidence rate of delirium for individual patients. Based on this information, the nomogram could be used as a useful tool to establish an individual's treatment plan.

  • Today, Software as a Service(SaaS) is being recognized as a key means to enable the innovation of software distribution. Despite the increase in the interest in SaaS, individuals as well as businesses are not yet making an extensive use of it. This research is aimed at identifying and analyzing the antecedents of intentions to use SaaS. We proposed a research model to predict an individual's intention to use SaaS based on the Technology Acceptance Model(TAM). To this end, we conducted a questionnaire survey in which actual software users participated. An empirical analysis has been performed to test the reliability and validity and the hypotheses using SPSS and AMOS software packages. The results of the analysis revealed that functionality, interoperability and economic benefits have positive effects on the intention to use SaaS, while system quality has no significant effect on the behavioral intention. We discussed practical as well as academic implications, and provided research directions.

  • This study is aimed at understanding the factors behind deciding to accept a social network service (SNS) from the viewpoint of tourists who are users of tourism SNS. The study also seeks to clarify the effects these deduced factors have on the intention of users to continuously use SNS. To this end, individual properties (such as self-efficacy, socio-cultural effects, social presence and people's innovativeness), systematic properties (like system quality and information quality)and usefulness/availability were used as factors with regard to the decision to accept tourism SNS based on previous studies and efforts were made to structurally clarify the effects of such previous factors on people's intention to continuously use SNS through perceived value and satisfaction. SNS had significant effects on satisfaction and, furthermore, significantly affected tourists' intention to continuously use it. Based on such study results, factors behind deciding to accept SNS from the viewpoint of tourists affected customers' perceived value and satisfaction and ultimately affected their intention to continuously use SNS. To achieve the purpose of the study, a survey was conducted on about 250 Busan residents who had used SNS in relation to tourist activities, such as exhibitions, conventions, accommodation, trips, aviation service and transportation. According to an empirical study, factors behind deciding to accept tourism SNS, including individual properties, systematic properties and usefulness/availability had statistically significant effects on perceived value. The usefulness/availability factor had the largest influence, in particular, followed by the systematic factor and individual factor. The value perceived in the process of using tourism SNS had significant effects on satisfaction and, furthermore, significantly affected tourists' intention to continuously use it. Based on such study results, factors behind deciding to accept SNS from the viewpoint of tourists affected customers' perceived value and satisfaction and ultimately affected their intention to continuously use SNS.

  • This research aims at investigating the factors determining the success of knowledge management system(KMS) in research organizations. Based on the literature survey and the general framework of IS success model, a new comprehensive model which is customized to the context of KMS is proposed. Some organizational support factors and an individual personality variable that moderates the relationship between predictors and the success factors are also integrated to the new model. A proposed model was tested by the technique of structural equation modeling using survey data from the employees in research organization. The results revealed that KMS quality had the strongest impact on the KMS success measured by perceived usefulness and user satisfaction and KMS use. The moderating effect of an individual personality factor, organization-based self esteem is also founded in the research.

  • SNS(Social Network Services) is being recognized as an important part in our society, individual lives and corporate business aspects, and the influence of SNS is growing explosively as expansion and supply of infrastructures that support mobile environments increase. Previous studies related to SNS were focused on user acceptance of new technology, based on Technology Acceptance Model(TAM). However, they had a limitation to focus on technology acceptance, without the consideration of personal and behavioral factors in SNS use. However, above all, successful SNS requires the understanding of users who are active on the network. Therefore, from the user's perspective, this study attempted a multi-dimensional approach by reflecting characteristics that come from SNS usage. This study considered user innovation, virtual skill, self-efficacy, social pressure and network effect as independent variables, and perceived ease-of-use, perceived usefulness and perceived value as mediating variables, and intention-to-use as dependent variable. The result showed that user innovation, self-efficacy, social pressure and network effect had a significant effect on the mediating variables. The practical contribution of this study is to suggest useful decision alternatives concerned to marketing strategy for acquiring and retaining lone-term customers related to SNS business.

  • In this paper, we identified factors that affect the usage of UCC, which is becoming increasingly popular in our society and throughout the globe. Four hypotheses were tested using a new integrative model of UCC usage, which is built up by incorporating the TAM and the PA(pleasure-arousal)model. We analyzed the data collected in our survey of 258 individual UCC users during the period from Oct 2006 to Dec 2006. We found that pleasure and arousal showed a strong significant effect on individual's UCC usage, supporting the findings of the exiting research on TAM. To be specific, arousal had an effect on the UCC usage through its effect on pleasure and self efficacy. Pleasure affected the UCC usage in two ways: First, pleasure affected UCC usage through increasing the ease of UCC service. At the same time, pleasure had a direct effect on the UCC usage. Contrary to what the prior research on technology acceptance suggested, we found ease of use and social influence had no significant effect on individual’s UCC usage. We suggest that this finding of no effect of ease of use and social influence has an important implication in understanding the UCC usage. That is, the UCC usage may be motivated by different factors than those which inspire other technology acceptance behavior. The UCC users may be engaging in a creative activity enjoying the sheer pleasure of creating UCC, self expression, and sharing what they want to tell. Intrinsic motivation rather than extrinsic motivation seems to click this new type of technology users.
