Peer Effects in Service Usage

  • Researchers in marketing, sociology, and economics have been interested in the role of social interactions in consumer choice and consumption behaviors. Social interactions, labeled variously as peer effects, social contagion, and neighborhood effects, have important implications for firms' allocation of marketing efforts. In this research, we test and provide empirical evidence for peer effects in consumers' service usage in the context of gym-going behaviors. Using a detailed individual-level membership and attendance data at one of the largest health club chains in the U.S., we document that a focal member's gym-going behavior is influenced by the behaviors and characteristics of the peers at the same branch

Gifted Students' Viewpoints on Using Educational Technology in their Schools in the Saudi Context

  • This paper explored gifted students' perspectives on using educational technologies in their schools in the Saudi context. Adopting a descriptive research approach, a questionnaire was used to collect information from a sample of 196 gifted secondary school students in Jeddah. Findings showed that educational technology was used to a high degree, with an overall mean of 3.74 and 4.06 for the degree of importance of technological usage. Based on the findings, the researcher forwards some recommendations for effectively using such technologies to promote gifted students' abilities and talents.

What's for Dinner? Factors Contributing to the Continuous Usage of Food Delivery Apps (FDAs)

  • This study proposed a novel model to investigate influential factors affecting the intention to continue using increasingly popular food delivery apps (FDAs). The proposed theoretical model is developed and validated to extend traditional technology acceptance and adoption theories by identifying several determinant factors that capture the unique context of FDAs continuous usage. Hypotheses were tested using a partial least square structural equation modeling approach (PLS-SEM) on data collected from 331 actual FDAs users during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results reveal that convenience, perceived compatibility, delivery experience, and online reviews significantly influence the continuous usage of FDAs. The findings also confirm the importance of continuous intention on the actual use of FDAs. The research model of this study explains 65% of variance in continuous intention and 47% in actual use. The insights provided by this study suggest fruitful directions for future research. They can also help FDAs companies, developers and marketers with strategies and tips for further development and growth by ensuring users' continuous usage of these platforms.

Applying Gamification and Assessing its Effectiveness in a Tourism Context: Behavioural and Psychological Outcomes of the TripAdvisor's Gamification Users

  • Despite the increasing adoption of gamification and its huge potential in tourism, research in gamification is still limited. As preliminary findings show that the effectiveness of gamification depends on the context of its application and the players' use of the gamified app, this paper fills in these gaps: by exploring and analysing the application of gamification in a specific e-commerce tourism context; and assessing the gamification's effectiveness by measuring the players' gamification usage and the latter's behavioural and psychological outcomes. The gamified TripAdvisor website and its Facebook enabled gamification app are used as the specific context of the study. Findings from a survey conducted on TripAdvisor users provide useful practical and theoretical implications to gamification designers and researchers alike on how game mechanics can be designed for enhancing the users' motivation, flow, task involvement and engagement with the 'play' tasks, and so, increasing the gamification's effectiveness.

  • 스마트 폰은 내장된 다양한 센서와 사용자 휴대성/밀착성으로 인해 정보 수집과 지능형 서비스의 적합한 대상으로 주목 받고 있다. 즉, 센서로부터 사용자의 주변 환경 정보뿐만 아니라 스마트 폰의 사용 정보 등을 수집하여 사용자의 현재 상태를 추론할 수 있고, 추론된 상태 정보는 사용자에게 상황 인지 서비스를 제공하기 위한 중요한 근거로 활용될 수 있다. 하지만 제공하고자 하는 서비스에 따라 필요한 상황 정보가 다르기 때문에, 정확한 상황 추론을 위해서는 컨텍스트 모델링 기법이 전제되어야 한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 스마트 폰 사용자의 일상생활 상에서의 상황을 추론하기 위한 모바일 컨텍스트 계층 모델을 제안한다. 센서 데이터로부터 추론할 수 있는 상위 컨텍스트를 컨텍스트-행위-상황의 3-계층으로 분류하여 정의하고, 각 단계를 위한 추론 기법을 제시한다. 이 모델을 통해 사용자의 단순 행위 또는 상태가 아니라 일상생활에서의 의미 있는 상황 추론이 가능해질 것이다.

행위이론을 적용한 도서관 이용자 컨텍스트 정보의 CAbAT 모델링 (The CAbAT Modeling of Library User Context Information Applying Activity Theory)

  • 도서관 이용자의 복잡한 환경과 이용패턴에 따라 생성된 정보는 지식구조화를 통해 이용자에게 적합한 상황인지 정보서비스에 활용된다. 따라서, 도서관 이용자의 다양한 컨텍스트를 정의하고 상호 관련된 컨텍스트의 지식구조화를 위한 컨텍스트 모델 구축이 필수적인 요건이다. 본 연구에서는 컨텍스트의 개념 및 컨텍스트 모델링을 고찰하고, Engestrom의 행위이론의 개념을 활용하여 도서관 이용자의 행위 모델을 1) 주체, 2) 목적, 3) 도구, 4) 노동단위, 5) 커뮤니티, 그리고 6) 규칙으로 설계하였다. 또한, 도서관 이용자의 컨텍스트를 분석하기 위하여 행위정보를 수집하여 그들의 행태를 관찰 및 기록하는 사용자 추적법 (Shadow Tracking)을 활용하였고 수집된 행위정보는 CAbAT(Context Analysis based on Activity Theory)의 방법론을 활용하여 도서관 이용자의 컨텍스트를 설계하였다.

Focus Group Based Evaluation of Social Media Usage in Indonesia's Digital Government

  • This article attempts to explain social media use within the relationship between the public and government of Indonesia in the era of digital government, as well as to consider public opinion on this matter. This research is based on the application of social media logic and the theory of dialogic communication and action. A qualitative descriptive approach was used to observe the general behavior of social media use by 34 ministries in Indonesia, including interviews with the resource persons within the ministries and focus group discussions with members of the public and observers. The research shows that the relationship between the public and government is accommodative and in line with social media logic. The public sector implemented social media as its platform, which has been further adopted by all ministries. The public sector cannot avoid social media, as it has become part of basic connectivity, even though the use of social media by the government still tends to be in the form of presenting public information. There are advantages and disadvantages of the usage of social media by the government. The advantages include allowing the government to be more open via social media so that communication between the government as the ruling organization and its public can be more fluent. Social media provides space to the public sector in the practice of digital government. Some disadvantages arise as logical consequences that usage of social media cannot be separated from the implementation of digital government. The adaptive behavior of social media by the government can be found by following social media logic as part of digital government implementation. Social media logic causes the government to follow the rules of social media. In this context, the strength and power of the country seems to be regulated by social media. Therefore, more studies on how social media is managed in the context of its usage as digital government support is needed.

LSTM 신경망을 활용한 맥락 기반 모바일 사용자 인증 기법 (Context-Aware Mobile User Authentication Approach using LSTM networks)

  • 본 연구에서는 모바일 환경에서의 기존 맥락인증기법의 부족한 성능을 보완하고자 한다. 사용된 데이터는 GPS, CDR(Call Detail Record), App usage이며 GPS의 처리과정에서 인구밀집지역의 타인을 세밀하게 구분하고자 GPS밀도에 따른 지역구분을 시행하였다. 또한 전처리에서 데이터 수집에서 발생할 수 있는 결측치를 처리한다. 인증 모델은 두 개의 LSTM(Long-Short Term Memory)와 그들 결과를 종합하는 하나의 ANN(Artificial Neural Network)로 구성하며 이를 통해 최종적으로 인증 점수를 산출한다. 본 논문에서는 기존 연구와의 정확도를 비교하고 타인을 구별해내는데 필요한 인증 시도 횟수를 비교하여 평균 11.6%의 정확도 향상과 검증 데이터의 약 60%에 대하여 더 적은 시도에 구별해 낼 수 있었다.

모바일관광정보서비스의 특성이 만족도와 재사용의도에 미치는 영향 (Effects Characteristics of Mobile Information Service on Satisfaction and Reuse Intention)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 모바일관광정보서비스 사용자의 사용 의도에 직접적인 영향을 미치는 요인을 탐색하여, 요인간 연관관계를 제시하는 것이다. 본 연구는 기존의 모바일관광정보에 관련된 연구와 Davis의 기술수용모델(TAM)을 고찰하였으며, 선행연구를 바탕으로 모바일관광정보서비스 특성인 정확성, 상호작용성, 지각된 유용성, 지각된 용이성, 주변상황인식성, 편재접속성을 추출하고 연구모델을 설정하였다. 그리고 이 요인들이 만족도 및 재사용의도에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 모바일 관광정보서비스 사용 경험이 있는 실제 사용자들을 대상으로 실증 분석을 수행하였다. 구조방정식을 이용하여 연구한 결과 상호작용성, 주변상황인식성, 지각된 유용성, 지각된 용이성이 만족도에 긍정적인 영향을 나타났다. 특히 상호작용성과 주변상황인식성은 만족도와 재사용의도에 중요한 요인으로 검증되었다. 따라서 주변상황인식성과 상호작용성을 높여야 할 것이며, 정확성과 편재접속성을 높이는 것보다는 지각된 유용성과 지각된 용이성을 높이는 것을 제안한다. 본 연구는 모바일 관광정보서비스의 활성화에 응용하거나 산업 정책적 가이드라인을 제시하는데 실증적인 지표로 활용되길 기대해 한다.

모바일 클라우드 컴퓨팅 기술사용에 영향을 주는 환경적 요인과 직무 관련성의 조절효과에 대한 실증연구 (An Empirical Study on the Influence of Environmental Determinants on the Mobile Cloud Computing Technology Usage and the Moderating Effects of Job Relevance)

  • The recent development of mobile devices, including smartphones has maximized the user's convenience. This phenomenon has triggered the specification and activation of mobile cloud service and transformed the user's information usage and communication means. Despite such development of new technology, there is little understanding of mobile cloud. Therefor, in order to help the understanding of the usage of mobile cloud computing technology, this study developed the research model based on the UTAUT (the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Usage of Technology) model. The proposed research model included five external determinants, such as Interoperability, Information Organization, Adequacy, Information Security and Context Awareness, along with the moderating effects of Job Relevance, and empirically proved their influence on the user's job performance. This study proved the research model by analyzing the data collected from 287 copies of survey with the structural equation modeling approach. The result showed that all determinants, except Information Security have positive impact on the usage of mobile cloud computing technology. Thus, this study can compliment the limitations of previous research, suggest a new direction to analyze the user's perspective in the related research on mobile cloud and build a theoretical foundation for the further development of mobile cloud.
