국내 웹 사이트 디자인의 사용성 조사 : 설문조사 및 발견평가 (Usability testing of the domestic web site design : questionnaire and heuristic evaluation)

  • 본 연구는 정보 시스템으로서의 웹(WWW)의 인지심리학적 특성들을 고려하여 웹사이트의 사용성에 관련된 디자인 특성들을 밝히고자 하였다. 구체적으로 다양한 목적의 웹사이트를 선정하고 다양한 비실험적 방법들을 이용하여 그 사이트의 홈페이지 디자인에 관한 사용성 평가를 실시하였다. 이를 위해 연구 1에서는 설문조사법을 통한 웹사이트의 사용성을 조사하였다. 그 결과, 몇 가지 중요한 사용성과 관련된 디자인의 특성들 및 요인들이 추출되었다. 연구 2에서는 연구 1에서 쉽게 발견되지 않은 특정 웹사이트의 세부적 사용성 문제들을 검출하기 위해 발견적 평가를 실시하였다. 연구 2의 결과, 발견적 평가가 연구 1 의 설문조사에 비해 디자인의 세부적인 문제점들을 더 잘 드러내는 것으로 나타났다.

UML-ITS Usability Evaluation of Intelligent Tutoring System

  • The most effective tutoring method is one-on-one, face-to-face in-person human tutoring. However, due to the limited availability of human tutors, computer-based alternatives have been developed. These software based alternatives are called Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) which are used to tutor students in different domains. Although ITS performance is inferior to that of human teachers, the field is growing and has recently become very popular. User interfaces play key role in usability perspective of ITS. Even though ITS research has advanced, the majority of the work has concentrated on learning sciences while mostly disregarding user interfaces. Because of this, the present ITS includes effective learning modules but a less effective interface design. Usability is one approach to gauge a software's performance, while "ease of use" is one way to assess a software's quality. This paper measures the usability effectiveness of an ITS which is designed to teach Object-Oriented (OO) analysis and design concepts using Unified Modeling Language (UML). Computer Supported Usability Questionnaire (CSUQ) survey was conducted for usability evaluation of UML-ITS. According to participants' responses to the system's usability survey, all responses lie between 1 to 3 scale points which indicate that the participants were satisfied and comfortable with most of the system's interface features.

인터넷 쇼핑몰 사용성에 대한 품질평가 (Quality Evaluation for Usability of Internet Shopping Mall)

  • 본 논문은 국내 인터넷 쇼핑몰 웹사이트의 사용성 품질을 평가하기 위하여 웹사이트의 사용성에 영향을 미치는 요소를 조사 분석하고, 기존 연구 조사와 전문가 토론을 거쳤다. 그 결과 쇼핑몰 웹사이트의 사용성에 영향을 미치는 여섯 가지 사용성 특성, 즉 콘텐츠 만족도, 고객흡인 만족도, 가격정보 만족도, 보안 만족도, 사용자 인터페이스 만족도, 거래과정 만족도 등을 추출하였고, 각 특성들을 구성하는 72개의 세부 측정요소의 평가모델을 설정하였다. 그리고 이들 72개 사용성 측정요소 중에서 웹사이트를 구현한 HTML, XML, JSP, ASP등의 정보를 대상으로 정량적으로 측정 가능한 33개의 세부요소를 측정하는 사용성 평가실험을 하였다. 또한 현재 소비자들이 선호하고 있는 사이트와 그렇지 못한 사이트를 선정하여 동일한 사용성 측정요소에 대해 설문조사를 실시하고, 그 결과를 평가실험결과와 분석하여 본 연구에서 제안한 인터넷 쇼핑몰의 사용성 측정 평가모델 요소의 타당성을 검증하였다. 이러한 사용성 품질평가 모델을 활용함으로써 실제로 사용성 품질을 측정하는 시간을 단축할 수 있으며, 쇼핑몰 웹사이트의 개발설계 시 사용성 요소를 반영할 수 있는 토대가 된다.

Comparison of Usability and Prefrontal Cortex Activity of Cognitive-Motor Training Programs using Sensor-Based Interactive Systems

  • Objective: Cognitive-motor trainings had a positive impact on cognitive function and dual-task trainings led to improvements of global cognitive function. The brain activity of the prefrontal cortex (PFC) is another indicator that can infer cognitive function. This study aims to confirm the usability of the interactive system cognitive-motor training program and the changes in the prefrontal cortex through training. Design: Cross-sectional study Methods: In this study, two cognitive tasks were randomly applied to 20 adults as cognitive-motor training using an interactive system, and the same task was performed using the original method. During all tasks, the brain activity of the prefrontal cortex was measured by the change in oxyhemoglobin (HbO) in real-time using Functional Near-Infrastructure. After performing the tasks, the usability of the developed interactive system was evaluated by a usability questionnaire which consists of five items, and each item consists of a 7-point Likert scale that responds from 1 point to 7 points. Results: The HbO levels were increased during cognitive task performance than at the resting phase. And evaluating the usefulness of the interactive system, a questionnaire result showed that it would be useful for cognitive-motor programs. Conclusions: The cognitive-motor training using the interactive system increased the activity of the prefrontal cortex, and the developed wearable sensor-based interactive system confirmed its usefulness.

  • An approach to quantitative evaluation of product usability during the design and implementation phases of the product life cycle is presented. The evaluation starts by defining a set of usability characteristics, viz. physical, cognitive and affective characteristic. Each of these characteristics is assessed by a set of usability criteria, such as functionality, visual clarity, learmability, etc. The usability criterion is then evaluated by a checklist consisting of a detailed questionnaire. The fuzzy weighted-checklist method with linguistic variables is used for quantitative analysis. Also, the method for quantifying usability improve- ments in iterative design processes is considered. This analysis procides a quantit- ative measure, which reflects the degree of excellence of product usability during the design and development phases.

Knee Joint Isokinetic Rehabilitation Exercise Equipment Usability Evaluation

  • Objective: In this study, the test-retest reliability and validity were presented to evaluate the usability of isokinetic rehabilitation equipment for the knee joint. Design: Cross-sectional design, reliability & validity study. Methods: Thirty healthy adults participated in the study. A CSMI dynamometer was used as a standardized measuring device to present the validity of the equipment. It was measured based on the dominant leg. The average peak torque value was selected as the measurement variable. After the measurement, a questionnaire was conducted on safety, satisfaction, and performance through the usability evaluation questionnaire. Results: The knee joint isokinetic rehabilitation equipment showed high reliability with Intraclass Correlations Coefficients (ICC) =0.883~0.956. In order to check the validity of the equipment, the 95% confidence interval of the mean difference limit was confirmed by the Bland & Altman plot. As a result, all three angular velocities showed a smaller confidence interval in the flexion than in extension. There were less than 10 plots that were not included in 2 Standard Deviation (SD) between all measurements. As a result of the usability evaluation questionnaire, the average of the safety domain(4.9±0.4), satisfaction domain(4.1±0.8), performance domain(4.3±0.8). Conclusions: If the product is improved by supplementing the items identified in the usability evaluation process, it is judged that it can be used as a useful device in various knee joint rehabilitation fields.

이용자 서비스의 품질 향상을 위한 웹사이트 사용성 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on Usability Evaluation for Improving Quality of User Services in CNU Digital Library Website)

  • 본 연구에서는 최신의 정보기술을 적용한 XML 기반 충남대학교 전자도서관 웹사이트를 대상으로 사용성 평가를 실시하였다. 사용성 평가는 로그파일 분석, 온라인 설문조사 그리고 발견평가의 3가지 방법을 적용하였다. 본 연구에서는 사용자 입장에서의 대학도서관 웹사이트 서비스의 문제점을 분석$\cdot$평가하여 개선 방안을 제시함으로써 이용자 서비스의 품질 향상을 제고할 수 있는 근거를 마련하고자 한다.

휴대폰 사용 중 표출되는 사용자의 감성 평가 (Measuring user’s emotions while using a cellular phone)

  • 본 연구의 선행연구에서 사용자가 제품 사용 중 표출된 감성을 보다 간단하고 손쉽게 평가할 수 있도록 자기-보고 질문지형 스케일을 개발하였고, 본 연구에서는 휴대폰 사용 중 표출되는 사용자의 감성을 평가해 보았다. 전반적으로 사용성 측면을 상당히 고려하여 디자인한 제품이라고 할 수 있는 휴대폰의 경우 높은 '사용적 만족성'과 낮은 '불편성'이 표출되었다. 반면에 전반적으로 새로운 기능과 스타일에만 집중하여 사용자의 사용성 측면에 대해서는 다소 불편한 제품이라고 할 수 있는 휴대폰의 경우 낮은 '사용적 만족성', 높은 '불편성'이 표출되었지만 그 외 '심미성', '신규성', '유쾌성', '우수성'에서는 높은 값을 나타내었다. 본 연구의 결과를 가지고 성급하게 제품의 사용성과 사용자의 감성에 대한 결론을 내리기에는 다소 미흡하지만 향후 제품 경험 시간에 따라 표출되는 사용자의 감성변화를 분석함으로써 제품의 사용성과 사용자의 감성간의 관계를 보다 더 명확하게 밝혀낼 수 있으리라 기대한다.

언어적 프로토콜 분석을 이용한 쇼핑몰 웹사이트 사용성 측정방법에 관한 연구 (Measuring the Usability of Shopping Mall Web Sites Using Verbal Protocol Analysis)

  • Today many owners of Web sites are looking to user's satisfaction survey as a key means of measuring the usability of a Web site. While it is preferred for it simplicity and ease of use, this survey method is not without potential risks. This paper focuses on showing that the existing practice of questionnaire-based usability measurement is subject to human recall errors, and that such flaws can be reduced when the questionnaire survey is followed by the users hands-on experience of the site. An empirical study was conducted, and the results indicate that the above speculation holds true. Even if respondents felt highly confident about their responses on a recall survey, a hands-on experience with a focal Web site increased the extent to which the respondents were satisfied with the shopping mall site. This indicates that a user's perception of the quality of a Web site may be distorted or lost as time goes by. In addition, the findings have shown that the use of the verbal protocol analysis method can reveal critical information that can help track the root causes of Web site usability problems, thereby helping to develop site enhancement strategies. The paper concludes with directions for future research.

조종적성 검사/연구 장비 운용 Console의 인간공학적 개선 (Ergonomic Improvement of Operation Console for Pilot Aptitude Research Equipment)

  • Pilot Aptitude Research Equipment (PARE) is a simulator developed to measure or research pilot aptitude and train for student pilots. Design of an ergonomic PARE operation console is required to operate the equipment effectively. This study carried out five steps : (S1) operator questionnaire survey, (S2) anthropometric design formula development, (S3) usability evaluation, (S4) improvement design, and (S5) validation considering both Physical User Interface (PUI) and Graphic User Interface (GUI) of PARE operation console. The operator questionnaire surveyed needs for each PUI and GUI part of the console from two PARE actual operators. In terms of PUI, the anthropometric design formula was developed by using design variables, body dimensions, target population characteristics, and reference posture related to the PARE console. In terms of GUI, the usability evaluation was conducted by three usability testing experts with a 7-point scale (1 : very low, 4 : neutral, 7 : very high) on GUI of the PARE operation console by seven usability criteria. The improved PARE operation console was designed to reflect the optimal values of design variables calculated from design formula, the results from usability testing, and the operator's needs. The improvement effect was observed by 20 people who had experience with the PARE operation console. As a result of the validation, monitor visibility and cockpit visibility for the improved PUI design and visibility and efficiency for the improved GUI design were significantly increased by more than 90% respectively. The improved design of the PARE operation console in this study can contribute to enhance operation performance of the PARE.
