요로감염 소아에서 입원 초기 시행한 DMSA 신 스캔 결과에 따른 임상양상의 차이에 대한 연구: DMSA 신 스캔의 임상적 의미 (Differences in the Clinical Characteristics of Children with Urinary Tract Infections Based on the Results of $^{99m}Tc$-Dimercaptosuccinic Acid Renal Scanning)

  • 목적: 본 연구는 요로감염 환아에게 시행하는 영상학적 검사인 신장 초음파, DMSA 신 스캔, VCUG 중 비교적 시행하기 쉬운 DMSA 신 스캔이 방관요관역류나 신 반흔을 얼마나 예측할 수 있는지 그리고 신장 초음파와 비교했을 때 얼마나 신뢰성을 갖는지도 알아보고자 한다. 방법: 2004년 1월부터 2012년 12월까지 병원에 입원하였던 요로감염 환아 495명 중 입원 1주일 이내에 신장 초음파와 DMSA 신 스캔을 시행한 환아 142명을 선별하여 후향적 연구를 통해 연구를 진행하였다. 환자의 성별, 나이, 요로감염의 원인 균주, 혈중 백혈구 수치와 중성구 비율, 혈장 CRP, 발열기간, 입원기간, 신장 초음파 소견, DMSA 신 스캔 소견, VCUG를 시행한 경우 VCUG 소견을 SPSS for window version 17.0를 통해 통계적 방법으로 분석하였다. 결과: DMSA 신 스캔 양성군과 음성군을 비교했을 때 나이, 입원당시 백혈구 수, 호중구 비율, CRP, 입원기간, 신장 초음파와 VCUG에서 이상소견을 보인 경우가 양성군이 음성군보다 통계적으로 유의하게 높은 값을 보였다. 신장 초음파 양성군과 음성군의 비교에서는 나이, 호중구 비율, CRP, 입원기간, DMSA 신 스캔과 VCUG에서 이상 소견을 보인 경우가 양성군이 음성군보다 통계적으로 유의하게 높은 값을 보였다. 결론: DMSA 신 스캔에서 양성 소견이 신장 초음파와 비교하여 임상적으로 더 심한 요로감염을 시사하거나, 향후 신 반흔 형성에 직접적으로 관련이 있다고 보기는 어려웠다. 그러나 신장 초음파와 DMSA 신 스캔을 같이 시행하였을 때, 방광요관역류를 예측하는 데 민감도 및 음성 예측도를 증가시킬 수 있었다.

카제인과 대두단백질(大豆蛋白質)의 혼합(混合) 및 Methionine보충(補充)이 흰쥐의 성장(成長), 체내(體內) 대사(代謝) 및 체조성(體組成)에 미치는 영향 (Influence of the Combination of Casein and Isolated Soyprotein with or without Methionine Supplementation on the Growth, Metabolism, and Body Composition of Growing Rats)

  • 단백질(蛋白質)의 상호보충(相互補充) 및 제한(制限)아미노산 보충(補充)이 흰쥐(Sprague Dawley계(系) 이유(離乳)한 숫쥐)의 성장(成長), 체내대사(體內代謝) 및 체조성(體組成)에 미치는 영향(影響)을 규명하기 위하여 사양(飼養) 및 대사실험(代謝實驗)을 실시(實施)하였다. 실험사료(實驗飼料)의 에너지 및 단백질(蛋白質) 수준(水準)은 각각 3,600kcal/㎏ 및 20%로 고정하였고, 단백질(蛋白質)의 공급원(供給源)으로 카제인과 대두단백질(大豆蛋白質)을 택(擇)하여 각각 100:0, 80:20, 50:50, 20:80, 0:100의 비율(比率)로 혼합(混合)하였으며 각각에 methionine을 0% 또는 0.3%로 보충(補充)하였던 결과를 요약(要約)하면 다음과 같다. 흰쥐의 체중(體重)과 증체량(增體量)은 대두단백질(大豆蛋白質) 단독(單獨) 급여(給與) 때 가장 낮았고 카제인의 혼합비율(混合比率)을 증가(增加)시킬 수록 증가(增加)되었다. 대두단백질(大豆蛋白質)에 methionine을 보충급여(補充給與)했을 때 증체량(增體量)은 무보충(無補充) 혼합(混合) 급여(給與)했을 때와 동일(同一)했으며 카제인 단독(單獨) 급여(給與)때 보다 카제인 혼합(混合) methionine 보충(補充) 급여(給與)에서 증체량(增體量)은 더 높았다. 사료섭취량(飼料攝取量)은 카제인 단독급여(單獨給與) 때나 카제인의 혼합비율(混合比率)을 증가(增加)시킬 때 높았으나 meihionine을 보충(補充)했을 때 저하(低下)되었으며 대두단백질(大豆蛋白質) 단독급여(單獨給與)에서 낮았으며 methionine을 보충(補充)해도 증가(增加)되지 않았다. 사료효율(飼料效率)은 카제인이나 대두단백질(大豆蛋白質)의 단독(單獨) 급여(給與)때보다 두 단백질(蛋白質)의 혼합급여(混合給與) 때 더 높았으며 단독급여(單獨給與)에 methionine을 보충(補充)함으로써 사료효율(飼料效率)이 증가(增加)되었으나 혼합급여(混合給與)에 보충(補充)했을 때에는 같은 효과(效果)를 보이지 않았다. 성장실험기간중(成長實驗期間中) 총(總)에너지섭취량(攝取量)은 사료(飼料) 섭취량(攝取量)과 관계가 있었고 카제인 단독급여(單獨給與) 때나 그의 혼합비율(混合比率)을 증가(增加)시킬 때 증가(增加)했다. 에너지효율(效率)과 단백질효율(蛋白質效率)은 두 단백질(蛋白質)을 단독급여(單獨給與)할 때에는 methionine보충(補充)에 의해 증가(增加) 되었으며 또한 혼합급여(混合給與) 때에는 대두단백질(大豆蛋白質)의 비율(比率)을 증가(增加)시킬 수록 methionine에 의한 개선효과(改善效果)를 보였다. 질소섭취량(窒素攝取量) 및 카제인 뇨질소량(尿窒素量)은 단독급여(單獨給與) 했을 때 가장 높았고, 대두단백질(大豆蛋白質) 단독급여(單獨給與) 때 가장 낮았으며 카제인의 비율(比率)을 증가(增加)시킬 수로 증가(增加)되었다. 질소균형(窒素均衡) 및 축적율(蓄積率)은 처리(處理)에 의한 차이(差異)에 통계적(統計的) 유의성(有意性)은 없었다. 대사실험기간중(代謝實驗期間中) 총(總)에너지섭취량(攝取量)과 분(糞) 및 뇨(尿)에너지는 카제인 단독급여(單獨給與) 때 높았고, 가소화(可消化) 에너지와 대사(代謝)에너지, 에너지의 소화율(消化率) 및 리용율(利用率)은 처리(處理)에 의한 유의차(有意差)는 없었다. 체지방(體脂肪)은 methionine보충(補充)에 의해 증가(增加)되었으나, 체단백질(體蛋白質)은 감소(減少)했다(r=0.65, p<0.01). 체지방(體脂肪)과 체수분(體水分)과도 부(負)의 상관관계(相關關係)(r=-0.83, p<0.01)가 있었다. 간(肝)의 무게는 도체(屠體)의 무게의 변화(變化)와 일치(一致)했고 (r=0.79, p<0.01) methionine보충(補充)에 의해 증가(增加) 되었으며 카제인의 비율(比率)을 증가(增加)시킬 수록 증가(增加)되었다.

착즙부산물을 이용한 발효사료가 육성돈의 영양소 소화율 및 질소균형에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Fermented Diets Including Liquid By-products on Nutrient Digestibility and Nitrogen Balance in Growing Pigs)

  • 본 시험은 착즙부산물 발효사료가 육성돈의 영양소 소화율, 분뇨 배설량 그리고 질소 균형에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 실시하였다. 삼원교잡종 24두(개시체중 46.79 kg)를 공시하여 10일간의 적응기를 거쳐 7 일간 대사 케이지 ($0.5{\times}1.3m$)에서 소화시험을 수행하였다. 처리구는 1) 기초사료 (CON), 2) 발효사료(기초사료를 발효한 사료, F), 3) 케일박 발효사료 (KF), 4) 신선초박 발효사료 (AF), 5) 당근박 발효사료 (CF) 빛 6) 포도박 발효사료(GF)로 하여 총 6개 처리이었으며 처리당 4반복으로 하였다. 시험기간 동안 건물 소화율은 대조구, F, CF 처려구가 다른 처리구들보다 유의적으로 높았다 (p<0.05). 조단백질소화율은 F 처리구가 AF 및 GF 처리구보다 유의적으로 높았고 (p<0.05), 조섬유 소화율은 GF 처리구가 다른 처리구들보다 유의적으로 낮았다 (p<0.05). 조지방 소화율에서는 AF 및 CF 처리구가 KF를 제외한 처리구들보다 유의적으로 높았다 (p<0.05). 조회분 소화율은 CF 처리구가 다른 처리구들보다 유의적으로 높았다 (p<0.05). 반면 칼숨과 인 소화율에서는 CF 및 GF 처리구가 다른 처리구들보다 유의적으로 높았다 (p<0.05). 에너지 소화율에서는 대조구, F 및 CF 처리구가 KF, AF 및 GF 처리구보다 유의적으로 높았다(p<0.05). 총 필수아미노산 소화율에서는 F 처리구가 AF, CF 및 GF 처리구보다 유의적으로 높았고(P<0.05), 비필수아미노산의 평균 소화율에서는 F 처리구가 AF, CF 및 GF 처리구보다 유의적으로 높았다 (p<0.05). 총 아미노산의 평균 소화율에서는 F 처리구가 AF 및 CF 처리구보다 높았으며 (p<0.05), GF 처리구가 가장 낮았다 (p<0.05). 분으로 배설된 질소 비율은 GF 처리구가 다른 처리구들보다 높았고(p<0.05), F 처리구가 낮았다 (p<0.05). 뇨로 배설된 질소 비율에서는 대조구와 GF 처리구가 다른 처리구들보다 유의적으로 낮았다(p<0.05). 질소 축적비율에서는 대조구가 가장 높았으며 (p<0.05), KF 처리구가 가장 낮았다 (p<0.05). 결론적으로 일반배합사료보다 착즙부산물 발효사료의 소화율이 감소하였는데 이것은 사료에 혼합된 착즙부산물 수준 30%가 높은 수준인 것으로 판단되어 추후 섬유소 수준을 낮추어 시험을 수행할 필요가 있다고 생각된다. 특히, 포도박 발효사료 처리구에서 분 배설량이 많은 이유는 포도박 발효사료의 섬유소 함량이 대조구 및 발효사료 보다 높고 다른 착즙부산물에 비하여 소화되지 않는 포도씨가 다량 배설되었기 때문인 것 같다.

요로감염 환아에서 방광요관 역류를 예측할 수 있는 인자에 대한 연구 (Predictive Value for Vesicoureteral Reflux in Children with Urinary Tract Infection)

  • 목적 : 배뇨성 방광요도 조영술은 초회 열성 요로감염이 있는 환아에게서 선천성 신장 질환이나 동반된 방광요관 역류를 확인하기 위해 시행한다. 그러나 이 시술은 요로 감염에서 방광 천공까지 다양한 합병증 등이 초래될 수 있으므로 본 연구는 배뇨성 방광요도 조영술 이외에 방광요관 역류의 존재를 예측할 수 있는 인자를 알아보고자 하였다. 방법 : 1998년 5월부터 2005년 11월까지 약 7년간 전북대학교 병원 소아청소년과에 입원하여 소변 배양 검사상 확진된 요로 감염 환아를 대상으로 후향적으로 분석하였다. 각각의 환아들에게서 연령, 성별, 발열, 위장관 증상, 뇨 검사 및 뇨 배양, 말초혈액 백혈구수, ESR, CRP, BUN, 혈청 creatinine과 요로계 초음파 및 DMSA 신스캔 결과와 방관요관 역류의 정도를 표준화된 형식을 통해 기록하였다. 결과 : 총 410명의 환아 중, 방광요관 역류가 없는 그룹은 273명이었고 역류가 있는 그룹은 137명 이었다. 방광요관 역류 존재 유무에 따른 두 그룹 간에는 발열, 농뇨, 말초백혈구수, ESR, CRP의 P 값이 0.001 이하의 의미있는 차이를 나타냈다. 그러나, 방광요관 역류 정도에 따른 비교분석 결과 방광요관 역류가 낮은 군(I-II)과 높은 군(III-V) 사이에는 농뇨, 발열, 말초백혈구수, C-반응단백(CRP) 등에서 의미있는 차이를 보이지 않았다(P<0.05). 역류의 유무에 따른 영상의학적 소견의 차이를 보면, 신장 초음파는 민감도 33%, 특이도 73%를 보였으며 DMSA 신스캔은 민감도 76%, 특이도 65%를 나타내었다. 또한 역류가 심할수록 신장 초음파와 DMSA 신스캔 모두 양성률이 높았다. 결론 : 초회 요로감염 환아 중 발열, 농뇨 및 높은 적혈구 침강속도, C-반응단백를 보이는 경우와 DMSA 신스캔상 이상 소견을 보이는 경우는 방광요관 역류가 있을 가능성이 높으므로, 이 경우에는 반드시 배뇨성 방광요도 조영술을 시행하는 것이 좋을 것으로 사료된다.

Effect of Elemental Sulfur Supplementation on Rumen Environment Parameters and Utilization Efficiency of Fresh Cassava Foliage and Cassava Hay in Dairy Cattle

  • Effect of sulfur (S) on utilization efficiency of fresh cassava foliage and cassava hay in dairy cows was evaluated using thirty-two $1^{st}-2^{nd}$ lactation Holstein-Friesian crossbred dairy cows. The experimental treatment was a 2${\times}$2 factorial arrangement in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) using two roughages (rice straw+fresh cassava foliage (FCF) and rice straw+cassava hay (CH)) and two elemental sulfur (S) levels (0.15 and 0.4% S of dry matter (DM)), respectively. Four dietary treatments (FCF+0.15, FCF+0.4, CH+0.15 and CH+0.4) were offered ad libitum in the form of a total mixed ration (TMR) with concentrate to roughage (chopped rice straw+chopped cassava foliage) ratio at 60:40. Fresh cassava foliage or cassava hay resulted in similar dry mater intake, rumen ecology parameters, total tract digestibility, blood chemistry, milk production and composition. However, HCN intake, blood and milk thiocyanate concentration were significantly higher (p<0.01) in cows fed fresh cassava foliage with no sign of potential toxicity. Dry matter intake, body weight changes, molar percentage of propionate in rumen, neutral detergent fiber (NDF) digestibility and nitrogen (N) retention of cows tended to be increased while DM digestibility (65.6, 72.7, 68.6 and 72.1% of total DM intake for the respective treatments), rumen bacteria population (1.4, 1.7, 1.6 and $1.7{\times}10^{11}$ cell/ml for respective treatments), fungal zoospore population (0.4, 0.6, 0.4 and $0.5{\times}10^{6}$ cell/ml for respective treatments), urinary allantoin (25.3, 28.0, 26.3 and 27.6 g/d for respective treatments), microbial N yield (136.0, 154.6, 142.8 and 151.3 g N/d for respective treatments) and milk protein content (3.4, 3.5, 3.2 and 3.5% for respective treatments) were significantly (p<0.05) higher in cows fed on supplemented sulfur at 0.4% of DM in comparison with 0.15% S-supplemented diets. Based on these results, it is concluded that cassava foliage could be used as a portion of roughage for dairy cows and supplementation of S would be nutritionally beneficial.

Effects of low dietary cation-anion difference induced by ruminal ammonium chloride infusion on performance, serum, and urine metabolites of lactating dairy cows

  • Objective: The objective of the present study was to determine ammonium chloride tolerance of lactating dairy cows, by examining effects of negative dietary cation anion difference (DCAD) induced by ruminal ammonium chloride infusion on performance, serum and urine minerals, serum metabolites and enzymes of lactating dairy cows. Methods: Four primiparous lactating Chinese Holstein cows fitted with ruminal cannulas were infused with increasing amounts (0, 150, 300, or 450 g/d) of ammonium chloride in a crossover design. The DCAD of the base diet was 279 mEq/kg dry matter (DM) using the DCAD formula (Na + K - Cl - S)/kg of DM. Ammonium chloride infusion added the equivalent of 0, 128, 330, and 536 mEq/kg DM of Cl in treatments. According to the different dry matter intakes (DMI), the resulting actual DCAD of the four treatments was 279, 151, -51, and -257 mEq/kg DM, respectively. Results: DMI decreased linearly as DCAD decreased. Yields of milk, 4% fat-corrected milk, energy-corrected milk, milk fat, and milk protein decreased linearly as DCAD decreased. Concentrations of milk protein and milk urea nitrogen increased linearly with decreasing DCAD. Concentration of Cl- in serum increased linearly and concentration of PO43- in serum increased quadratically as DCAD decreased. Urine pH decreased linearly and calculated urine volume increased linearly with decreasing DCAD. Linear increases in daily urinary excretion of $Cl^-$, $Ca^{2+}$, $PO_4{^{3-}}$, urea N, and ammonium were observed as DCAD decreased. Activities of alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, and ${\gamma}-glutamyl$ transferase in serum and urea N concentration in serum increased linearly as DCAD decreased. Conclusion: In conclusion, negative DCAD induced by ruminal ammonium chloride infusion resulted in a metabolic acidosis, had a negative influence on performance, and increased serum enzymes indicating potential liver and kidney damage in lactating dairy cows. Daily ammonium chloride intake by lactating dairy cows should not exceed 300 g, and 150 g/d per cow may be better.

Effects of Dietary Lysine Levels on Apparent Nutrient Digestibility and Serum Amino Acid Absorption Mode in Growing Pigs

  • Two experiments were conducted to determine the effects of different dietary lysine levels on the apparent nutrient digestibility, the serum amino acid (AA) concentration, and the biochemical parameters of the precaval and portal vein blood in growing pigs. In Experiment 1, 15 noncannulated pigs received diets with different lysine densities (0.65%, 0.95%, and 1.25% lysine) for 13 d. A total collection digestion test was performed, and blood samples were collected from the precaval vein at the end of the experiment. In Experiment 2, four cannulated pigs were fed the same diets of Experiment 1. The experiment used a self-control experimental design and was divided into three periods. On d 5 of each period, at 0.5 h before feeding and hourly up to 8 h after feeding, single blood samples were collected from catheters placed in the portal vein. In Experiment 1, some serum AAs (including lysine), serum urinary nitrogen (SUN), and total protein (TP) concentrations were significantly affected by the dietary lysine levels (p<0.05). Moreover, the 0.65% lysine treatment showed a significant lower apparent digestibility of gross energy, dry matter, crude protein, and phosphorus than the other treatments (p<0.05). In Experiment 2, serum lysine, histidine, phenylalanine, threonine, valine, isoleucine (p = 0.0588), triglyceride, and SUN (p = 0.0572) concentrations were significantly affected by the dietary lysine levels (p<0.05). Additionally, almost all of the determined serum AA and total AA concentrations reached their lowest values at 0.5 h before feeding and their highest values at 2 h after feeding (p<0.05). These findings indicate that the greatest absorption of AA occurred at 2 h after feeding and that the dynamic profile of serum AA is affected by the dietary lysine levels. Moreover, when the dietary lysine content was 0.95%, the growing pigs achieved a better nutrient digestibility and serum metabolites levels.

Effect of dietary energy levels and phase feeding by protein levels on growth performance, blood profiles and carcass characteristics in growing-finishing pigs

  • Background: Providing of insufficient nutrients limits the potential growth of pig, while feeding of excessive nutrients increases the economic loss and causes environment pollution. For these reasons, phase feeding had been introduced in swine farm for improving animal production. This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary energy levels and phase feeding by protein levels on growth performance, blood profiles and carcass characteristics in growing-finishing pigs. Methods: A total of 128 growing pigs ([Yorkshire ${\times}$ Landrace] ${\times}$ Duroc), averaging $26.62{\pm}3.07kg$ body weight, were assigned in a $2{\times}4$ factorial arrangement with 4 pigs per pen. The first factor was two dietary energy level (3,265 kcal of ME/kg or 3,365 kcal of ME/kg), and the second factor was four different levels of dietary protein by phase feeding (1growing(G)-2finishing(F) phases, 2G-2F phases, 2G-3F phases and 2G-3F phases with low CP requirement). Results: In feeding trial, there was no significant difference in growth performance. The BUN concentration was decreased as dietary protein level decreased in 6 week and blood creatinine was increased in 13 week when pigs were fed diets with different dietary energy level. The digestibility of crude fat was improved as dietary energy levels increased and excretion of urinary nitrogen was reduced when low protein diet was provided. Chemical compositions of longissimus muscle were not affected by dietary treatments. In backfat thickness ($P_2$) at 13 week, pigs fed high energy diet had thicker backfat thickness (P = 0.06) and pigs fed low protein diet showed the trend of backfat thinness reduction (P = 0.09). In addition, water holding capacity was decreased (P = 0.01) and cooking loss was increased (P = 0.07) as dietary protein level reduced. When pigs were fed high energy diet with low subdivision of phase feeding, days to 120 kg market weight was reached earlier compared to other treatments. Conclusion: Feeding the low energy diet and subdivision of growing-finishing phase by dietary protein levels had no significant effect on growth performance and carcass characteristics. Also, phase feeding with low energy and low protein diet had no negative effects on growth performance, carcass characteristics but economical profits was improved.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the effects of honey-fried Astragali Radix extract on the nephrotoxicity in rats induced by cyclosporin A(CsA). The experimental rats were divided into three groups of ten. The Normal group was given nothing. The Control group was given only saline water every day for 14 days after the subcutaneous IV injection of 50mg/kg in CsA every other day during a period of 14 days. The sample group was administered 4.8mg/200g of Astragali Radix extract daily for 14 days after the subcutaneous IV injection of 50mg/kg in CsA every other day for 14 days. These groups were observed for 14 days. This experimental research focused on measuring the levels of BUN, creatinine, total protein, sodium, potassium, chloride, AST and ALT in the serum and specific gravity and creatinine in the urine. The results were summarized as follows: 1. Changes in serum The levels of BUN, creatinine. AST and ALT in the serum were significantly decreased in the sample group as compared with those of the control group. Total Protein level in the serum was significantly increased in the sample group as compared with that of the control group. Sodium and Potassium levels in the serum in the sample group were a little lower than those of the control group but no significance was noted. The chloride level in the serum in the sample group significantly increased as compared with that of the control group on the 7th day but in the sample group was significantly decreased as compared with that of the control group on the 14th day 2. Changes in urine Urinary specific gravity in the sample group showed significant increase, compared to the control group on the 7th day but were a little higher than that of the control group on the 14th day. Creatinine level in the urine were a little higher than that of the control group but no significance was found. These results suggest that honey-fried Astragali Radix might be effective on the nephrotoxicity in rats caused by CsA.

일부(一部) 농촌지역(農村地域) 성장기(成長期) 아동(兒童)의 단백질(蛋白質) 및 철분(鐵分) 영양상태(營養狀態)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (A Study on Iron and Protein Nutriture of Preschool and School Children in a Korean Rural Area)

  • A general survey of 82 perschool children and 473 school children (from 1st to 3rd grade) residing in the Dongnae area of Shindong Myun, choonseoung Gun, Kangwon Province was conducted from June 12 to 21, 1973, to obtain information concerning nutritional status, especially the protein and iron nutrition of preschool and school children in a rural area of Korea. A sample of 58 children 2 to 9 years old was selected from these 555 children for hematological, biochemical and parasitological tests. The results of these tests are presented below, 1) Both the mean body height and mean body weight of these children were higher and heavier than the averages in the Korean Physical Standards. About 39 per cent were above the 90 th percentile of the Korean Physical Standards of height and 35 per cent were above the 90th percentile of the Korean Physical Standards of weight. 2) The rate of infestation by helminthes was 67.6 per cent and there were no cases of hookworm infestation Among the ascaris-infected children, 61.6 per cent fell within an Ascaris E.P.G. count range of $501{\sim}2,000$. This was considered a rather mild intensify of ascaris infection. Nutrient loss due to helminthes was also estimated to be low. 3) The mean hemoglobin level was 11.3gm% $({\pm}0.94)$, and 68.4 per cent of the children were anemic (less than 11gm% among those 5 years old or less, less than l2gm% among those 6 years old or more). The average hematocrit value was 36.1% $({\pm}2.36)$, and only 3.5 per cent showed more than 34% on the M.C.H.C. test. These results showed that the incidence of anemia, in these rural children was high, and that in general it displayed hypochromic characteristics. 4) The average serum iron level was $78.2{\mu}g%$\;({\pm}29.8). The Proportion of the children showing less than $50{\mu}g% in the serum iron level was 5.6 per cent, while 41.8 percent revealed $450{\mu}g% or more in the TIBC determination. Transferrin saturation was below 15% in 71.4 percent of the preschool children, and in 28.6 percent of the school children. Those who had a serum iron level of $50{\mu}g% or less and a TIBC of more than $450{\mu}g% constituted 11.9 percent of the children examined. From these results, it was concluded that especially preschool children were low in iron nutrition, and that most of the anemia might be iron-deficiency anemia. 5) The mean values of total serum protein and albumin were 6.98gm% and 4.99gm% respectively. Especially in serum albumin, all children stowed more than 4 gm%. 6) The mean urinary urea nitrogen Per creatinine ratio was 11.5 $({\pm}4.2)$, and 21.8 percent had a ratio of more than 15. Considering these results, it was suggested that protein nutrition in these children was relatively good.
