There is growing significance in securing urban parks and enhancing their accessibility due to irrational residential developments and apartment construction. Accordingly, Daejeon Metropolitan City has carried out urban park management projects to improve the quality of parks and create new parks. Daejeon Metropolitan City generates and manages park data for the purpose of management by the administrative district. However, these datasets take different forms in each administrative district. This study integrates the park data in Daejeon, generated by administrative districts, into the same format and generates geographic information data with the area information of each park for analysis. Analysis results show that urban parks are severely imbalanced across administrative districts, requiring new policy measures. In addition, by normalizing the park analysis results and, then, creating their rankings, this study compares them with the actual park information in detail to confirm the soundness of the dataset. The analysis results provide implications to improve the management of urban parks. This study proposes integrated datasets and the continued management of them in each administrative district by including essential data that can feature the objective information of the parks along with park evaluation indicators based on previous studies.

The park in city, is more than just ecological function, contributes emotional refinement and psychological stability to citizens, and give satisfaction of social and recreational activities to the citizens. And it is the place of leisure and the place to raise up the quality of urban environment. Especially, the neighborhood park among urban parks occupies the most important position as a leisure space for local resident, but it can not perform its purpose and function as a leisure space, due to its too formal and insufficient facilities. This study analyzes the visual access opportunities of neighborhood park users using the Space Syntax theory. In order to achieve this goal, 27 neighborhood parks were selected and 27 axial maps drawn according to the spatial configuration of the sites. Based on the axial map data, this study has calculated some specific space syntax indices, including Connectivity, Integration, and Intelligibility using the Axwoman ver 3.0 based on the Arcview 3.2 application. The value of the representative indices were used to examine visual access opportunities presented by the parks. This study was conducted in two aspects: one focusing on the entire space and another focusing on only the main entrance of the parks. The former used integration and intelligibility values and the latter used connectivity and integration values to evaluate the visual access opportunities of the sites. As a result, this study found that some parks, including Joongang, Balsan, and Sangdang, have high visual access opportunities in terms of the spatial configuration surrounding the park, which shows an integration value higher than 2, and also having intelligibility values higher than 0.7. This is the result of the grid land use pattern surrounding the parks and the straight roads that are closely linked to the main entrances of the parks. It is expected that this methodology and results will be used for locating neighborhood parks during the urban planning stage as providing reasonable evidence.

Because of their nature as public facilities, demands that former military facilities be utilized for the public welfare are increasing, thereby leading to an increase in cases in which these military facilities are reestablished as parks. Cases in which former military bases were reestablished as public parks were analyzed; as a result, several implications were derived. First, the objectives of public park projects should be examined from the perspective of the concept of urban regeneration and regional revitalization. Moreover, it is necessary that profits are yielded and that regional identity and history are reproduced through reusing existing facilities as much as possible rather than entirely remodeling former military sites. As parks become larger in size, bases should be reorganized into complexes rather than single facilities or programs. It is also necessary that parks be established in stages considering the enormous expenses required for building public parks. Consequently, because the special characteristics of military facilities can lead to insufficient on-site investigation in the process of establishing parks, thereby incurring a vast amount of costs for design adjustment and contamination disposal, this should be considered in advance. A method of delegating the development rights to partial sites to private businesses and supplementing the costs of park establishment and maintenance with development benefits should be examined. In addition, given that there are various interests and stakes in former military bases, a method of operating a public-private cooperative decision-making organization during project execution should be considered. Finally, policies related to urban parks need to be improved in order to raise funds, expand profitable businesses, facilitate social services and sponsorship, and encourage the participation of trusts and non-profit organizations in park operation and management.

After the revision of the Urban Park Act in 2005, historical parks emerged in Korea to promote the preservation of historical heritage while also offering recreation and education to ordinary citizens. It is now time to examine the characteristics of domestic historical parks by examining their current operational conditions, and seek appropriate institutional improvements. By studying the characteristics of historical parks in various countries, as well as the trends in the designation and development of domestic historical parks, this study attempts to examine the function and role of historical parks, and seeks a direction for future action. Through its literature review, this study also examines the current state of historical parks through cooperation with relevant public officials and experts. The results of the study show that, despite historical resources being concentrated in sites dating to the Joseon Dynasty, they also include heritage pertaining to persons, events, and places. There is also a trend toward increasing the focus on modern heritage. Historical parks show differences across existing cities and new towns, as well as between major cities and provincial cities. Provincial cities showed a recent trend of using historical parks as important resources for strengthening their economics and solidifying their identities. Also, there are many cases where the designated category for a park is changed to a historical park. In such cases, there may be a problem where certain functions of the park run into conflict. Domestic historical parks can be divided into four categories: heritage parks, memorial parks, historical theme parks, and historic parks. Such detailed classification schemes may serve as the strategic foundation for later conservation and usage of historical heritage, as well as a standard for suggesting concrete direction in the operation of historical parks.

The purpose of this research was to establish a green-networks from the perfective of landscape ecology in order to improve the function of urban green spaces. The study site was Dalsu-Gu in Daegu City. This research consisted of three phases. In the first phase, field surveys were carried out in order to understand existing distribution pattern of green spaces in the study site. 533 green spaces surveyed in the first phase were classified into 7 patterns and 24 types. The total area of the green spaces in Dalsu-gu was 3,329ha. Specifically the area of the 'urban nature parks' type was 57.49% of the total area of green spaces in Dalsu-gu, and it was expected that 'urban nature parks' type can play important roles in the green-networks in Dalsu-gu. Two analysis with green spaces in 9 types including 'urban nature parks', 'rivers' and 'neighborhood parks' were performed to establish a basic network frame of the green-networks. In the second phase, 'mutual connectivity analysis' and 'mutual matrix analysis' were performed to select core green spaces of a green-networks using 'areas of each green space and a distance between each space' and 'a rate of green spaces and a rate of water permeable pavement'. The results of the second phase indicated that, in mutual connectivity analysis, large green spaces apart from each other were evaluated as having higher mutual connectivity than small green spaces near to each other. In mutual matrix analysis, the green spaces with higher mutual connectivity and the small green spaces near to each other were evaluated as having better mutual matrix. In the last phase, we structured a basic frame of the green-networks in Dalsu-Gu. The results suggested that the basic frame of the green-networks in Dalsu-Gu was composed on four green-network axes and its shape mirrored a cruciform(+) of northwest${\longleftrightarrow}$southeast directions and southwest${\longleftrightarrow}$northeast directions, The Duryu neighborhood park is at the central point of this green-networks.

Long-term unexecuted urban parks will be released from urban planning facilities after 2020, this may result in development of those parks. However, little research have been focused on how to develop those parks considering conservation, development, spatial pattern, and so on. Therefore, in this study, we suggested an optimization planning model that minimizes the fragmentation while maximizing the conservation and development profit using ACO (Ant Colony Optimization). Our study area is Suwon Yeongheung Park, which is long-term unexecuted urban parks and have actual plan for private development in 2019. Using our optimization planning model, we obtained four alternatives(A, B, C, D), all of which showed continuous land use patterns and satisfied the objectives related to conservation and development. Each alternative are optimized based on different weight combinations of conservation, development, and fragmentation, and we can also generated other alternatives immediately by adjusting the weights. This is possible because the planning process in our model is very fast and quantitative. Therefore, we expected our optimization planning model can support "spatial decision making" of various issue and sites.

We estimated the potential area roof greening in Gyeonggi-do that will mitigate the heat island effect. The estimation was based on building age, roof shape, and building use which were recorded in the building register from "Sewoomteo, the Building Administration System in the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs. The estimated potential roof greening area in Gyeonggi-do was approximately $102.5km^2$ assuming that the buildings for residence, public, education(school), office, shopping mall are appropriate for roof greening. The area occupied by apartment buildings over six-story was 76.3% of the potential roof greening area 10.2% for individual houses, 5.9% for under five-story apartment buildings, and 3.7% for school buildings. The result indicated that it is residential buildings that we need to pay attention for roof greening, especially high-rise buildings over six-story. Greening of the whole estimated area, $102.5km^2$, in Gyeonggi-do will result in the increase of green space per capita by $8.74m^2$. This is 1.65 times greater than the area of current urban parks, and 1.97 times greater than the total area of neighborhood parks, children's parks, and pocket parks. Greening of the estimated roof area will increase green coverage of urban area by twice, adding to current green coverage of the urban areas, 11.3%, in 10 major cities. In particular, the effect of roof greening would be remarkable in inceasing the green space of Anyang City, Gwangmyeong City, and Guri City where neighborhood park area falls short.

The main purpose of this study is to examine how place representation is related to the formation of urban parks in Seoul, which began at the end of the 19th century. In order to grasp place representation, the hypothesis of this study is that most urban parks are undertaken with the idea of monumentality and symbolism or memories of the place itself. Diverse ways of representation through physical or non-physical aspects of symbolism, monumentality, and place memory are summarized as follows. First, in the case of the physical aspects of representation in the parks, monumentality and symbolism are expressed mostly through monuments or statues. In the case that the intention of the park is commemorative, celebrative elements are more actively utilized. In other cases, symbolic sculptures or statues, which are randomly designated by the government, are so often used regardless of the overarching concept of the urban park. In addition, in the case of place memory, monumentality or symbolism are commonly represented through bronze statues or partial remnants of the past. Recently, however, the site in itself has been constructed to coordinate the memories of a certain place into the configuration of the park. Secondly, in relation to the non-physical representation elements, many urban parks tend to reveal monumentality or symbolism through the names they are given. Recently, this tendency has significantly dropped, but some places of parksare frequently denominated in consideration of place memory. In the case of events held in parks, parks which were constructed in the beginning of the park movement, such as Tapgol Park, hold certain events to commemorate certain causes that took place in those days. On the other hand, the main purpose of recently-constructed urban parks relating to place memory is to encourage citizens to participate in events in a variety of ways.

Despite the increasing importance of urban parks' ecological functions in dealing with the climate crisis, ecological parks are not clearly defined in Korea's legal system. Numerous ecological parks created nationwide cannot be systematically designated and managed due to various legal bases and varying management authorities. It is important to clarify the legal status of ecological parks in order to lead the ecological paradigm shift of urban parks and to improve the natural park system for a comprehensive and integrated approach to protect the national ecosystem. To this end, related laws were analyzed to identify problems and to draw directions for legislative improvement. Through the literature review of relevant laws, acts, and ordinances, six major directions for improvement were suggested based on the analysis of problems. First, the legal status of ecological parks in the administrative dichotomy of the current park system is ambiguous, and ecological parks should be clarified through the revision of park-related laws. Second, an ecological park can be defined as a sustainable park created and managed in an ecological manner, promoting the protection and restoration of the ecosystem, conservation, and promotion of biodiversity, and balancing nature observation, ecological learning, and leisure activities. Third, the role of the state and local governments should be systematically revised to lead to a new park planning and management model through new governance. Fourth, since the characteristics of ecological parks are affected by individual laws, the possibility of overlapping ecological parks for other uses should be allowed. Fifth, detailed guidelines and standard ordinances need to be enacted to meet the goals, principles, and facilities of ecological parks. Lastly, along with the revision of the laws, ordinances by local governments also need to be more concrete. This study, which tracks various legal realities related to ecological parks, can contribute to policymaking that can systematize the foundation for the creation of ecological parks to preserve nationwide ecosystems and provide citizens with opportunities to experience and learn about nature.
