  • During the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing affected daily life and leisure activities, including forest recreational activities. This study identified changes in people's participation in forest recreational activities and factors affecting their participation. It collected data from 1,000 samples through an online survey and analyzed it using a binary logit model with interaction terms. It was observed that there were decreases in the participation in visits to urban parks and green areas, outdoor activities in forests and mountains, and trips to mountain villages after the COVID-19 outbreak. People in their 40s, 50s, and 60s were more likely to decrease their participation in all kinds of forest recreational activities than those in their 20s. Moreover, higher household income earners were more likely to decrease their involvement in outdoor activities in forests and mountains. With respect to the place of residence, the residents in the Seoul metropolitan area were less likely to decrease their participation in trips to mountain villages than those outside this area. Thus, this study suggests that online forest recreation information services and forest management are needed to meet the demands of forest recreation for young generations and diversify the function of forests and rural areas as a safe leisurely space.

  • Among coating systems used for steel bridge coatings on highway such as red lead-pigmented alkyd, chlorinated rubber, waterborne inorganic zinc, inorganic zinc/epoxy/urethane and inorganic zinc/epoxy/fluororesin, evaluation of deterioration degree and prediction of lifetime through regression analysis were carried out for coating systems widely used and grossly degraded. For evaluation of deterioration degree, 75 bridges on highway were selected, and evaluations were carried out according to point offering method regulated by Guideline of maintenance coating for steel bridges used in Korea Expressway Corporation. Lifetime prediction results showed 13.0~13.3 years for the whole nation, 11.8 years for urban and industrial region in the metropolitan area, 13.2 years for rural region except the metropolitan area, 13.5~13.7 years for chlorinated rubber coating systems, and 12.86 years for red lead-pigmented alkyd systems. For prediction of the rest life of coating, we tried to execute parallel translations of standard deterioration curve to current life and deterioration degree for both x and y axes, and it was thought that parallel translation for x axis corresponded to deterioration aspects in actual environment. Maximum and minimum equations were derived from standard deterioration equation by adding and subtracting error values deduced in regression analysis to/from each coefficient in order to establish maintenance coating criteria for overall steel bridges on highway. Whole domain was divided into 8 parts in order to predict the rest life of coating and optimum time of maintenance coating, and maintenance coating criteria for each 8 domains were presented.

  • Minimum Housing Standard is an instrument to cope with the problems of public health and community hygiene, deterioration of working class housing conditions appeared commonly in the process of capitalist industrialization and rapid rural-to-urban migration. This paper aims to examine the institutionalization of histories of minimum housing standard in the advanced countries, and analyze the spatio-temporal changes and characteristics of households failing to meet the New Minimum Housing Standard in Seoul Metropolitan since 1995. The analysis of this paper is based on the census data on population and housing. The results are as follows; Households failing to meet the New Minimum Housing Standard in Seoul are 501,000 households(1.368 million person, 14.4%). This means Seoul has overtaken the national average 11.8% for the first time and there are structurally marginal band of households who can not improve the housing conditions by themselves. In addition, the fact that the rate of Seoul households living in the marginal shelter including the basement and rooftop room is the highest in Korea means the housing quality issues of Seoul is serious. Spatial distribution of households failing to meet the standard is divided into the northeast area and the southwest area in Seoul. Main features of the households are female-headed families, middle and old-aged people, divorce families, lower educated people, under and graduate students, non-apartments, dweller in 15~20 year old houses.

  • In order to establish the watershed water quality management strategy of Total Maximum Daily Load(TMDL), it is necessary to understand the relationship between water quality component impacts, and to identify the impacts on downstream target point of watershed water quality management of waste treatment plant(WTP) discharge and upstream/tributary loads. In this study, we determined the impacts between the water quality contaminants, and traced water pollution sources using monitoring data of ministry of environment in tributaries and main stream and WTP monitoring data. Test area is set to Geumho river basin which has characteristics of urban and rural area and composes of GeumhoA, GeumhoB, GeumhoC watershed units in TMDL. The clustering with five grades of discharge data and the correlation analysis were performed through the FDC(Flow duration curve) analysis, which more clearly identified the points and water contaminants deteriorating target water quality of downstream point. This can be used as a tool for tracing pollutants with FDC analysis, and will help us establish the watershed water quality management strategy for TMDL target point in watershed more effectively.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the geographical location information data and the damage trends according to the type of landform for the study of various cultural properties in 44 traditional places with national designated cultural properties damaged by the racing earthquake on September 12, 2016. The landform type was the most enclosed type, and the location type was more frequent in the surrounding area, such as urban and rural areas. The waterside type was located along rivers, rivers, valleys, lakes, and oceans except for the top of the mountain, but this area was found to be vulnerable to earthquakes, It is understood that it should be referred from cultural property management the side. 26 of the total 44 were temples. The elevation and slope increased with increasing of the flat type, the background type, the enclosed type, the mountain type, and the top type. Most often located on 1-20 % slopes, with the slope facing south more often than not. Within the 10 km range from the epicenter, 23% were concentrated, within the range of nearly 65 km, the background type was closest, and was concentrated in the northeast and southwest from the epicenter. In this study, it is meaningful to analyze earthquake damage in various aspects from the viewpoint of traditional space which is a landscaping cultural property and it will be used for planning, designing and managing traditional spaces.

  • In this paper, the robust hybrid modulation type classifier which use both HOS and WT key features and can recognize 10 digitally modulated signals without a priori information in multipath fading channel conditions is proposed. The proposed classifier developed using data taken field measurements in various propagation model (i,e., rural area, small town and urban area) for real world scenarios. The 9 channel data are used for supervised training and the 6 channel data are used for testing among total 15 channel data(i.e., holdout-like method). The Proposed classifier is based on HOS key features because they are relatively robust to signal distortion in AWGN and multipath environments, and combined WT key features for classifying MQAM(M=16, 64, 256) signals which are difficult to classify without equalization scheme such as AMA(Alphabet Matched Algorithm) or MMA(Multi-modulus Algorithm. To investigate the performance of proposed classifier, these selected key features are applied in SVM(Support Vector Machine) which is known to having good capability of classifying because of mapping input space to hyperspace for margin maximization. The Pcc(Probability of correct classification) of the proposed classifier shows higher than those of classifiers using only HOS or WT key features in both training channels and testing channels. Especially, the Pccs of MQAM 3re almost perfect in various SNR levels.

  • Recently, the risk of snow disasters has been increasing South Korea. The damages of heavy snow were categorized into direct and indirect. Direct damage is usually the collapse of buildings as houses, greenhouse or barns. Indirect damage is various, for example, traffic congestion, traffic acident, drop damage, and so on. In South Korea, direct damage is severe in rural area, mosty collapse of greenhouse or barns. However, indirect damage such as traffic accident is mostly occurred in urban area. Therefore, the regional characteristics should be considered when vulnerability is evaluated. Therefore, in this study, the PSR and DPSIR method were applied by regional scale in South Korea. The PSR evaluation method is divided into pressure, state, and reaction index. however, the DPSIR evaluation method is divided into Driving force, Pressure, State, Impact, and Response index. the DPSIR evaluation method is divided into Driving force, Pressure, State, Impact, and Response index. Data corresponding to each indicator were collected, and the weight was calculated using the entropy method to calculate the snowfall vulnerability index by regional scale in South Korea. Calculated heavy snow damage vulnerabilities from the two methods were compared. The calculated vulnerabilities were validated using the recent snow damage in South Korea from 2018 to 2022. Snow vulnerability index calculated using the DPSIR method showed more reliable results. The results of this study could be utilized as an information to prepare the mitigation of heavy snow damage and to establish an efficient snow removal response system.

  • Rapid growth of the domestic economy caused a lot of the demand of land information. The land information system has to keep the records of the various data about land that includes its owner and usages. Also the system must present adequate results that have been accumulated upon a user's request. Since Korean Government enforces 'Law of National Land Usage and Management', the land in rural area was also tightly regulated as much as that in the urban area. In fact, when people wants to develop their land, then they realize that their land has many restrictions and regulations to use. Sometimes, they find many regulations and restrictions even in a parcel. Thus, many people quite often want to know all the laws, rules, regulations, and restrictions etc., whatever applicable on the land they are interested in. to use. The purpose of this paper is to show a legal service system that precisely presents all the related laws, regulations, and restrictions. for a piece of the land. It summarizes the search results on users' requests. It uses a knowledge-based expert system to figure out the users requests. In this paper, we designed the system architecture of the software, and implemented its prototype. The results on this system show more concise and user friendlier than those of the existing systems.
