Influence of Low Growing Vegetation in Reducing Stormwater Runoff on Green Roofs

  • Green roof's performance in reducing stormwater runoff has been reported by numerous studies. Nonetheless, the roles of low growing vegetation in influencing stormwater runoff reduction on green roofs have been greatly overlooked. This paper describes an experiment investigating the influence of low growing vegetation in the reduction of tropical stormwater runoff on extensive green roofs. Three types of locally occurring native vegetation and one non-native Sedum species were selected (fern, herb, grass and succulent) for the experiment. Stormwater runoff reduction performance from different low growing species was done by measuring excess water runoff from the simulated green roof modules. The results show significant differences in stormwater runoff reduction from different types of vegetation. Fern was the most effective in reducing stormwater runoff, followed by herb, Sedum and grass. Vegetative characters that are found to attribute towards the performance of stormwater runoff are rooting density, structure, density, leaf type, and vegetation biomass.

  • Urban transit is system that offer target Performance and function because various lower part system such as vehicles, signaling, power supply, rail track is consisted as complex. It is important first of all that describe correctly system requirement until configuration of system, design, manufacture, installation and test verification so that the complicated urban transit system is to act safety and reliable and to display target Performance and function properly. The system requirement assist the system developer to comprehensive the performance and function of system in basic design. Therefore, In this paper wishes to study way to analyze system of system requirement and apply to Urban transit.

A Study on the Application of IPA Method for Exploring the Properties of Urban Residents' Choice of Indoor Plants

  • Background and objective: This study was conducted to understand urban residents' perception of indoor plants in order to assist in the preparation of guidelines for growing plants indoors. Methods: Questionnaires were distributed to urban residents currently growing plants or with experience of growing plants. The data of 247 respondents were subjected to analysis to assess their level of interest and ability with regard to growing plants, and their recognition of the selection and function of plants. Results: Respondents showed high interest in growing plants at a level of 6.77, but their ability was moderate. This suggests that information regarding plant maintenance should be provided to urban residents. They recognized the function of plants for improving the environment as important, and expected that indoor plants would improve their mood and visual experience. Satisfaction with growing plants was high from an emotional perspective. They recognized that the function of air purification function was important even if the actual performance or effect was not great. This indicates that the function of air purification should be emphasized more. As the result of the IPA, plants should be selected in consideration of morphological characteristics such as leaf, flower and fruit, and continuously managed to maintain their characteristics. Since the performance of pots was less satisfactory compared to their importance, they should be selected so that they harmonize better with plants and are of the appropriate size to fit the space. The type of plants is an important factor in plant selection in order to perform an environmental function, and the flower color and pot size are important in terms of aesthetics and healing. Conclusion: When horticulture information on indoor plants is provided to urban residents, first, it should be provided to satisfy the functions of the plants required by urban residents and in order to promote and maintain the proper growth of plants. Second, various contents that utilize components should be developed to achieve plant function so that resident can determine the function of plants and select the type, quantity, and shape of plants to achieve the desired function.

원격탐사 지수 영상으로부터 도시 지역 탐지를 위한 임계점 평가에 관한 연구: 대구광역시를 사례로 (A Study on the Evaluation of the Different Thresholds for Detecting Urban Areas Using Remote-Sensing Index Images: A Case Study for Daegu, South Korea)

  • 지구관측 위성영상을 활용한 도시지역 매핑 작업은 도시지역의 팽창 및 도시발전의 관측을 위해 매우 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 대구광역시를 촬영한 Landsat-8 위성영상의 분광밴드를 이용하여 제작한 두 원격탐사 지수 영상(정규 건축물 지수(NDBI) 영상 및 도시 지수 (UI) 영상) 으로부터 도시지역을 탐지하기 위한 임계점 평가에 관한 연구를 다음과 같이 진행하였다. 우선, Landsat-8 영상의 분광밴드를 이용하여 NDBI 영상과 UI 영상을 각각 제작한다. 그리고 다양한 임계점(-0.4, -0.2 및 0)을 NDBI 및 UI 영상에 적용하여 도시지역을 탐지하고, 탐지된 도시지역의 정확도를 산출한다. 본 연구를 통해 진행한 실험결과를 분석한 결과, NDBI 영상에서는 임계점으로 -0.2를 적용시켰을 때 탐지된 도시지역의 정확도(88%)가 가장 높았고, UI 영상에서는 임계점으로 -0.4를 적용시켰을 때 탐지된 도시지역의 정확도(88%)가 가장 높았다. 또한, 일부 지역에서는 나지가 도시지역으로 오분류 되었으며, 고층 아파트 지역이 비도시 지역으로 오분류 되었다. 추후 연구에서는 위성영상에서 오분류를 줄이고 다양한 도시지역 객체를 추출할 수 있는 개선된 방법을 제안하도록 한다. 또한 다중시기 위성영상에서 탐지된 도시지역을 이용하여 도시 팽창 패턴을 분석하는 추후 연구도 수행할 계획이다.

A "Dynamic Form-Finding" Approach to Environmental-Performance Building Design

  • Newly-designed high-rise buildings, both in China and abroad, have demonstrated new innovations from the creative concept to the creative method. from the creative concept to the creative method. At the same time, digital technology has enabled more design freedom in the vertical dimension. "Twisting" has gradually become the morphological choice of many city landmark buildings in recent years. The form seems more likely to be driven by the interaction of aesthetics and structural engineering. Environmental performance is often a secondary consideration; it is typically not simulated until the evaluation phase. Based on the research results of "DigitalFUTURE Shanghai 2017 Workshop - Wind Tunnel Visualization", an approach that can be employed by architects to design environmental-performance buildings during the early stages has been explored. The integration of a dynamic form-finding approach (DFFA) and programming transforms the complex relationship between architecture and environment into a dialogue of computer language and dynamic models. It allows the design to focus on the relationship between morphology and the surrounding environment, and is not limited to the envelope form itself. This new concept of DFFA in this research consists of three elements: 1) architectural form; 2) integration of wind tunnel and dynamic models; and 3) environmental response. The concept of wind tunnel testing integrated with a dynamic model fundamentally abandons the functional definition of the traditional static environment simulation analysis. Instead it is driven by integral environmental performance as the basic starting point of morphological generation.

  • Recently, due to various environmental problems such as global warming, increasing of international oil prices and exhaustion of resource, a paradigm of world automobile market is rapidly changing from vehicles using internal combustion engine to eco-friendly vehicles using electric power such as EV (Electric Vehicle), HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle), PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid electric Vehicle) and FCEV (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle). There are many driving cycles for performance evaluation of conventional vehicles. However there is a lack of researches on driving cycle for EV. This study is composed of part 1 and part 2. In this paper part 1, in order to develop urban driving cycle for performance evaluation of electric vehicles, Gwacheon-city patrol route of police patrol car was selected. Actual driving test was performed using EV. The driving data such as velocity, time, GPS information etc. were recorded. GUDC-EV (Gwacheon-city Urban Driving Cycle for Electric Vehicles) including road gradient was developed through the results of analyzing recorded data. Reliability of the driving cycle development method was substantiated through comparison of electricity performance. In the second part of this study, the developed driving cycle was compared to simulation result of the existing urban driving cycle. Verification of the developed driving cycle for EV performance evaluation was described.

  • 주거지에서의 지속가능성은 어메니티, 거주성, 건강 등의 주제와 밀접한 관련이 있으며, 지속가능성의 개념은 도시성장관리, 도시재생, 뉴 어바니즘, 압축개발, 스마트성장, 질좋은 주거환경의 개념과 상통하는 개념으로 사용되고 있다. 거주성능관리시스템(RPMS)은 다양한 도시성능을 판단하고 평가할 수 있는 시스템으로, 도시관련 계획가나 관리자의 측면에서도 활용할 수 있다. 본 연구는 서울시정개발연구원에서 개발한 거주환경의 질 지표를 주거지의 지속가능성 지표로하여 RPMS를 이용한 평가가능성을 과 적용방안을 모형으로 제시하였다.
