  • With the rapid development of Urban Mass Transit in China, the Intelligent Transport System becomes inevitable. Based on the brief introduction of the blueprint of Urban Mass Transit in Shanghai, this paper analyses in detail the components and functions of Automatic Train Control (ATC) system applied in Shanghai Metro, presents the key technology of the main three subsystems of the ATC system : Automatic Train Supervision (ATS) subsystem, Automatic Train Protection (ATP) subsystem, Automatic Train Operation (ATO) subsystem. After reading this paper, you will have an general grasp of ATC system. At the end of the paper, it suggests a good resolution about the ATC system equipment to be made in China.   • Urban transit system must secure fast, safe and reliable transportation capacity as a metropolitan mass transit. For this purpose, it is important to make all the sub-systems (which consist of EMU, power feeding, signaling & telecommunication, railway, platform facility, and control system and so on) work well. To operate all the systems effectively and reliably, a maintenance measure optimal to each system's characteristics is needed to be established and executed. So, highly reliable maintenance should be performed. But, EMU maintenance methods suitable to its own model and EMU lines are not yet introduced. This study examined few examples mainly to secure reliability on a maintenance quality in operating method and the features of train maintenance system based on travel distance.

An Assessment of the Usage of the Lagos Mass Transit Trains

  • The rail sector, despite its potential for curtailing the present chaotic transport situation in Lagos, remains inefficient and underutilized. In spite of past initiatives and the current attempt by the Lagos State Government to provide a mass transit rail service in Lagos, the share of rail mode in the transport sector has not been encouraging and the railway plays an insignificant role in urban mass transit in Lagos at present. This paper sets out to assess the usage of the Lagos mass transit trains. Hence, the paper determines the passenger traffic flow along the rail route in Lagos and the number of passengers carried between 2000 and 2009 by the Lagos Mass Transit Trains (LMTT) with a view to assessing the usage of the present LMTT. This paper also discusses the historical development of Nigerian railway and describes rail transport in Lagos. Data were obtained through secondary sources coupled with review of literature. The result of this study shows that for a period of 10 years (2000-2009), Lagos mass transit trains carried a total of 9,870,101 passengers, which gives an average of 987,010 passengers annually. This suggests that the service of the Lagos mass transit train is grossly underutilized. However, LMTT contributes enormously to NRC by carrying 68.5% of the total passenger traffic of NRC between 2000 and 2009. In terms of passenger traffic flow along the route of LMTT, for a period of 1 year, Agbado station recorded the largest number of passengers (393,811), followed by Ijoko (163,652) and Iddo (120,787), while Iganmu station has the lowest number of rail commuters (16,919). This study also discloses that the major commodities hauled by Lagos district of NRC from Lagos to the northern parts of the country in 2007 are Cars, Cement, Billet and Wheat.

대전 역세권의 산학연 연계 개발 방안에 관한 연구 (A Strategy for the Development of Impact Area Around Dae-Jun Rail Transit Station in Relating with the Industry-University-Institute Collaboration)

  • The Purpose of this study is to find out the renewal methods of Dae-jun railway station areas, focusing on the domestic/foreign case studies of the railway station areas and the possibility of the Industry-University-Institute collaboration in this area. As a result, this study shows that the revitalization for the impact area around rail transit station in the aspect of urban spatial structure, mixed land use, type of facilities and exchanging transit system of mass traffic etc, as well as such non-physical aspects as Industry-University-Institute collaboration and administrative planning. It does so by strengthening ties between hardware and software studies of urban planning and University Facilities planning. Finally this study suggested the strategy for the renewal of impact area around the rail transit stations.

공기조화기 장착용 축상유입식 싸이클론의 입자제거효율에 대한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on Particle Collection Efficiency of Axial-flow Cyclone in Air Handling Unit)

  • A novel particle removal system for air handling unit (AHU) of subway station was evaluated experimentally. The novel system was designed in order to minimize the maintenance cost by applying axial-flow cyclones. The system consists of multiple cyclone units and dust trap. Based on our previous numerical study, it was found to be effective for removal $1\sim10{\mu}m$ sized dust particles. In this study, we manufactured the mock-up model and evaluated the model experimentally. Liquid and solid test particles were generated for evaluating collection efficiency of the system and the pressure drop was monitored. The collection efficiency was varied from 41.2% to 85.9% with increasing the sizes of particle from 1 to $6.5{\mu}m$ by particle count ratio of inlet and outlet. The pressure drop was maintained constant less than $20mmH_2O$. In addition, the collection efficiency was estimated by total mass for solid test particles. It was found that the collection efficiency was 65.7% by particle mass ratio of inlet and outlet. It shows that present system can replace current pre-filters used in subway HVAC system for removing particulate matters with minimal operational cost.

  • Automobile is in charge of most transportation system in modern urban city. However, in fact, cause of problem of road state, environment, and the other reasons, urban transit system is using as Mass Transit nowadays. Nevertheless Urban transit system is considering many kind of safety fact of that system which is increasing continuously nowadays, it occurs various train accident. This paper describes 3D Dimensional Measurement(EDM testing) and tensile testing results of carbody structure for crashed EMU(Electric Multiple Units). Tensile tests were performed on two different types of specimens in order to evaluate the strength changes before and after damages, obtained from plastic deformed area and nondeformed region of the crashed EMU. And Structural analysis of EMU was performed for the criteria of safety assessment. Structural analysis using commercial I-DEAS software provided important information on the stress distribution and load transfer mechanisms as well as the amount of damages during rolling stock crash. The testing results have been used to provide the critical information for the criteria of safety diagnosis.

고무차륜 경량전철의 차체 기본설계 (Carbody basic design for rubber tired AGT)

  • AGT(Automated Guide-way Transit System) was introduced to satisfy the every increasing need for improved urban transportation. The AGT system is classified as medium distance and demand capacity mass transit being introduced for such area with inadequate passenger demand for railway construction but excessive demand for bus service. To decrease initial investment cost it is important that we have to secure the technology system of Light Rail Transit for Korea environment. By utilizing the finite element analysis, the result in this paper is enough to satisfy the strength whish is required. Also for the purpose of safety, it is decided the thickness and frame structure of the undeframe section through the analysis. It is known that carbody is no problem for required design conditions.

  • 기존 대중교통시스템은 한정된 수송용량, 포화상태인 도로 교통체계 등으로 인해 새로운 교통수단이 발전할 수 있는 단초를 제공하였으나, 교통당국에서는 기존의 도시철도의 규모를 축소시킨 경량 전철 위주로 신교통시스템의 도입을 추진하고 있다. 특히 각 도시별로 대중교통(버스 또는 도시철도)을 계획할 때 특별한 대중교통시스템 선정기준이 없어 해당 지자체별로 어려움을 겪고 있어, 대중교통축별로 어떠한 대중교통시스템이 적정한지를 판단할 수 있는 선정 기준이 필요하다는 목소리가 높아지고 있는 실정이다. 이에 따라 도시의 교통축별로 GIS Buffering 분석기법에 기반한 대중교통수요 예측모형을 개발하고, 대중교통시스템별 용량을 설정하여 교통축별 최적의 대중교통시스템을 선정하고자 하였으며, 대중교통이 운행하는 대중교통축별로 수요를 처리할 수 있는 적정 대중교통시스템을 선정하는 것이 가장 중요하므로, 선정 및 평가에 대해 필요조건과 충분조건으로 구분한 방법론을 제시하였다.

  • The object of this study is to suggest some alternatives for environmental management towards sustainable urban development of Chongju city in Korea. This study analyses urban environmental indicators (population density, land use, road, park, car, etc.), level of air and water pollution and solids waste generation by comparing Chongju city and other large cities. Some alternatives towards sustainable development in Chongju city would be summerized and suggested as higher concentrated land use(compact city), mixed land use, supply of mass transit, establishment of regional environmental standards, total emission regulation of air and water pollutants, the preparation of Local Agenda21 of Chongju, and the introduction of strategic environmental assessment(SEA) into environmental impact assessment.
