  • The effects of an apartment complex on flow and pollutant dispersion in an urban area are numerically investigated using a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model. The CFD model is based on the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations and includes the renormalization group k-${\varepsilon}$ turbulence model. The geographic information system (GIS) data is used as an input data of the CFD model. Eight numerical simulations are carried out for different inflow directions and, for each inflow direction, the effects of an apartment complex are investigated, comparing the characteristics of flow and dispersion before and after construction of the apartment complex in detail. The observation data of automatic weather system (AWS) is analyzed. The windrose analysis shows that the wind speed and direction after the construction of the complex are quite different from those before the construction. The construction of the apartment complex resulted in the decrease in wind speed at the downwind region. It is also shown that the wind speed increased partially inside the apartment complex due to the channeling effect to satisfy the mass continuity. On the whole, the wind speed decreased at the downwind region due to the drag effect by the apartment complex. As a result, the passive pollutant concentration increased (decreased) near the downwind region of (within) the apartment complex compared with that before the construction.

  • In these days, Disaster Management Systems have still put emphasis on its recovery more than the prevention of disaster events. However, the countermeasure of restoration has limitations to prevent the caused loss because the disasters often happen and are massive. Therefore, we propose a disaster prevention system for supporting the safe urban. In this paper, we try to construct a real-time monitoring system to prevent disaster events using new technologies such as Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) and Geographic Information System (GIS). As a prototype to simulate the fire disasters on real-time, we construct gas sensors and temperature sensors. Our system consists of a WSN system to collect data of the gas and temperature sensors and to monitor the situation information. Our contribution is to provide a prototype application to prevent the disasters from the fire by constructing a WSN system with gas and temperature sensors.

  • To improve the reusability and interoperability of GIS components, we propose the registration/retrieval agents, which can search the locating of users' frequently used components in not only the GIS domain but also other spatial information technologies such as GPS, ITS, RS and FM. The registration/retrieval agents increase the reusability through the GIS component based development under distributed GIS components environment and enables the rapid setting of application on the web. Moreover, users can understand easily the information of GIS component and have the effective investment, timeliness and reliability while they have less maintenance effort by agent. In order to design and implement this system on web, HTML and ASP (Active Serve Page), and JAVA were used. In addition, the performance of this system was verified through comparing others, which are similar to.

  • This study was designed to analyze the status of government policy on the computerization of health centers throughout the country and to identify the factors affecting a successful implementation of the information system. As expected, age and commitment of health center director, computer budgets, user training, and technical supports from the information specialists were the important factors influencing the successful implementation of the system. Compared with the urban health centers, fewer rural health centers installed the system perhaps due to lack budgets and the urban-oriented system features. Moreover, the systems were unevenly distributed according to the geographic regions. Some strategies for successful dissemination of the systems were also suggested.

  • This study deals with development GIS application using web-based CAD, this application serves to user, designer, manager that more convenient and various functions. Development to this application, collect attribute data from fieldwork and geographic data from cadastral map and aerial survey map and then development to user interface using HTML, JavaScript, ASP, Whip ActiveX control. This application's characters are as follows ; First, system designer designed that anyone who have basic knowledge about web and CAD can develop this application. A system structure simplification by 2-Tier. Geographic information use DWF(drawing web format) file and attribute information use DBMS in consideration of extension. Second, system manager can service independently GIS in Web need not high priced GIS engine, so more economical. Third, internet user get service GIS information and function that search of information, zoom in/out, pan, print etc., if you need more functions, add function without difficultly. Developed application as above, not only save volume but fast of speed as use vector data exclude character and image data. Also, this application can used by means of commercial and travel information service but also various GIS service of public institution and private in web.

  • Recently the domestic technologies to manage forest and to control all related information were developed very rapidly by integrating FGIS (Forest Geographic Information System) and IT (Information technology). However, there still exists a mapping problem for example when overlaying a topography maps scaled in 1/5,000 to a forest type map scaled in 1/25.000. Moreover, there is a greater need to introduce the advanced spatial technologies such as high-resolution satellite image such as IKONOS and GIS to forest. In this study, 3D high-resolution forest mapping system was developed to possibly overlay with all kinds of scale maps and provide the all detailed information by using high-resolution satellite image and GIS. Through this system, all related forest officials could have and maintain the data consistency for their job and share the standard forest database with other post.

  • In this study, sunshine environment in an urban area is analyzed using a numerical model which considers sunshine-duration blocking by topography and buildings. The numerical model used in this study has an improvement in the algorithm detecting sunshine duration in the model domain. The main improvement in the algorithm is to detect sunshine duration using all the surfaces of any grid cell(the previous model uses the center of any grid cell). The improvement in the algorithm gives more accurate evaluation of sunshine duration at corner surfaces of buildings. Using the improvement model and geographic information system(GIS) data, sunshine environment is analysed at an building-congested area in Busan for a week in four seasons. The results show that sunshine duration can be much changed by apartment complexes, high-rise buildings, topography in the model domain.

  • This study is to compare and analyze the current status of landscape planning system in Korea and Japan by establishing the landscape database utilizing geographic information system(GIS). Specifically, landscape laws and their ordinances enacted in Korea and Japan and their implementation cases were compared to identify the characteristics. As of December 1, 2010, landscape administrative bodies are composed of 472 local governments in Japan while as of March 1, 2010, they are 83 local governments in Korea. The landscape laws in Korea and Japan have a similar structure overall. However, there are no supplementary provision and penal provision in the Korean landscape law whereas there is landscape district provision in the Japanese landscape law. The results of this study would be used as a base for building up the landscape planning and policy in the East Asian region.

  • Recently as recognition to prevent nature disasters is reaching the climax, the most important job of government official is to provide information related to the prevention of nature disasters through the Web and to bring notice to prevent disaster under people. Especially, if the case of daily forest fire hazard index is provided within visualization on Web, people may have more chances to understand about forest fire and less damages by large scale of forest fire. Forest fire hazard index presentation system developed in this paper presents daily forest fire hazard index on map visually also provides the information related to it in text format. In order to develop this system, CBDP(Component Based Development Process) is proposed in this paper. This development process tries to emphasize the view of reusability so that it has lifecycle which starts from requirement and domain analysis and finishes to component generation. Moreover, The concept of this development process tries to reflect component based method, which becomes hot issue in software field nowadays. In the future, the component developed in this paper may be possibly reused in other Web GIS application, which has similar function to it so that it may take less cost and time to develop other similar system.
