  • Sokkuram grotto, a UNESCO cultural heritage in Kyongju Korea, was originally covered with crushed rocks over its dome with ventilating holes. The grotto was perfectly preserved for more than 12 centuries until the upper structure was replaced with a concrete dome in the early 20th century to protect from total collapse. Since then, heavy dew formed on the granite surface to seriously damage the sculptures until it was further remodeled with air-conditioning facilities in the 60s. It is considered that the original upper porous structure had a dehumidifying capability. This research is made to unveil the dehumidifying mechanism of the rock layer during the rainy season in that area. A rock layer and a concrete layer are tested in a temperature/humidity-controlled room. No dew formation is observed for the two specimen for continued sunny days or continued rainy days. However, heavy dew formed on the concrete surface for a sunny day after long rainy days. It is thought that the sun evaporates water on the ground and dew is formed at the surface as the highly humid air touches the yet cold concrete. On the contrary, no dew formation is observed for the rock layer at any time. Even in the above worst situation, air flows downward through the cool rock layer and moisture is removed before reaching inside. Temperature measurement, flow visualization, observation of dew formation and measurement of air velocity are made to verify the mechanisms.

  • The experiment was carried out in order to investigate the development of vascular bundles and air spaces of rice internode, and its relationships to the panicle characteristics of rice varieties. The results obtained were as follows; The number of total vascular bundles in upper 1st internode was significantly different among varieties, but there was no remarkable differences among varieties and nodal positions below the 2nd internode. In the 5th internode 21-31 air spaces according to varieties was developed, however, no air space was found in upper 1st and 2nd internodes at maturing stage. Significant varietal difference of air space was observed in upper 4th internode. The number of vascular bundles, internodal thickness were positively correlated with panicle length, the number of rachis branches, and the spikelets in rice varieties.

  • The effect of indoor air pollution on the human body is greater and more dangerous than outdoor air pollution. In general, a person stays indoors for a long time, and in a closed room, pollutants are continuously accumulated and the polluted air is better delivered to the lungs. Especially in the case of young children, it is very sensitive to indoor air and it is fatal. In addition, methods to reduce indoor air pollution, which cannot be ventilated with more frequent indoor activities and continuously increasing external fine dust due to Covid 19, are becoming more important. In order to improve the problems of the existing autonomous driving air purifying robot, this paper divided the map and Upper Confidence bounds applied to Trees(UCT) based algorithm to solve the problem of the autonomous driving robot not sterilizing a specific area or staying in one space continuously, and the problem of children who are vulnerable to indoor air pollution. We propose a space-adaptive autonomous driving air purifying robot for a green smart school that can be improved.

  • Oral cancer surgery changes the morphologic characteristics of the human upper airway. These changes can affect the flow patterns. In this study, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations with transient solver were performed to numerically investigate the air flows in the human upper airways depending oral cancer surgery. 3D reconstructed models were obtained from 2D CT images of one patient. For the boundary condition, the realistic breathing cycle of human was applied. The hydraulic diameters of cross-sections for post-surgical model are changed greatly along streamwise direction, so these variations can cause higher wall shear stress and flow disturbance compared to pre-surgical model. The recirculation flows observed in the protruding region result in the relatively large pressure drop. These results can be helpful to understand the flow variations after resection surgery of oral cancer.

  • The goal of this study is the comparison of upper airway size and change of skeletal Class I group and skeletal Class III group (before operation, within 2 weeks after operation, 6 months after operation) respectively. At first, we measured the lines between selected upper air way landmarks on lateral cephalometric x-ray film of skeletal Class I 40 persons whoes age were 23-26 years old, ,and did the same lines of landmarks of skeletal Class III 44 persons who had not been operated yet, were within 2 weeks after operation, were 6 months after operation. And we compared it respectively and analyzed it with paired t-test. We studied the relationship of those on produced data. 1. Skeletal Class III group was narrower in nasopharyngeal air way space than that of skeletal Class I group, and increased in thickness of oropharyngeal, hypopharyngeal wall within 2 weeks after operation, and reduced in nasopharyngeal, oropharyngeal air way space, and did in thickness of nasopharngeal, hypopharyngeal wall 6 months after operation. 2. Skeletal Class III group reduced in nasopharyngeal, oropharyngeal air way space, and increased in thickness of nasopharyngeal, oropharyngeal, hypopharyngeal wall within 2 weeks after operation, restored the thickness of nasopharyngeal, oropharyngeal wall, but did not restored nasopharyngeal, oropharyngeal, hypopharyngeal air way space. 3. Vertical length from hyoid bone to mandibular plane did not have signifacant difference from Class I group but after operation, it increased more than Class I group significantly. 4. The size of airway reduced after operation. Among this, oropharyngeal airway most reduced.

  • The effect of moistening and air-drying of acid-conditioned dentin before priming on the formation of resin-dentin hybrid zone was investigated, Freshly extracted human molars were used and divided at random into 5 groups, Groups 1 - 3 consisted of specimens conditioned with 10 % phosphoric acid for 20 seconds; Group 1 served as a control in which the conditioned dentin was simply blot-dried with a damp facial tissue; Group 2 was air dried for 30 seconds ; Group 3 was air dried for 30 seconds and immediately remoistened for 10 seconds with air-water syringe. and then the specimen was blot-dried with a damp facial tissue. Groups 4-5 were not acid conditioned ; In group 4, the smear layer on the dentin was blot dried before primer placement; Group 5 was air dried only for 30 seconds, The acetone-based primer and bonding agent of All Bond 2 (Bisco. Inc., USA) and composite resin (Z-100, 3M Dental products, USA) were applied for acid conditioned dentin and non-conditioned dentin. The morphologic ultrastructure of resin-dentin hybrid zone was examined by the use of SEM and TEM. and the existence of inorganic material and analysis of Ca/P weight-percent ratio in the resin-dentin hybrid zone were revealed by the EDAX, The results were as follows : 1. In the moistened specimens from acid-conditioned groups, the resin penetrated about 3-$4{\mu}m$ into dentin and the denatured collagen smear layer was not present at the surface. The resin tag was formed to a thickeness of 3-$4{\mu}m$ at the upper part of dentinal tubule and compactively connected to each other by means of many lateral branching. 2. In the air-dried specimens from acid-conditioned groups, the resin penetrated about 2.0-$2.5\;{\mu}m$ into dentin and an upper thin black layer to a thickness of 30-35nm was identified between adhesive resin and demineralized collagen layer. The resin tag to have a diameter of $2.5{\mu}m$ was formed at the upper part of dentinal tubule. However the funnel shape of the tag was not notable compared to the moistened specimens. 3. In the remoistened specimens from acid conditioned groups, the resin penetrated about 2.0-$2.5{\mu}m$ into dentin and an upper black layer was not present. The resin tag at the upper part of dentinal tubule was formed less than $2{\mu}m$ and was weakly connected to each other by means of few lateral branching. 4. In the non-conditioned groups, the smear layer was formed to a thickness of $0.5{\mu}m$ at dentin surface. However, the resin-dentin hybrid zone was not identified by TEM. The evidence of resin penetration into intertubular and intratubular dentin did not show. 5. All the acid-conditioned groups showed that the detected calcium and phosphorus weight percent ratios at the $2{\mu}m$ upper portion from the resin-dentin interface into the resin were much higher than that at the $2{\mu}m$ lower portion from the resin-dentin interface to dentin. • The diffusion characteristics of the smoke by effect of an ascending air movement in a local part of the room where heat generated was studied. How the smoke move in the limited parts of the room at which heat generated was studied through 3 cases altering locations of inlet and outlet of ventilated air and heat generated by CFD(Computational Fluids Dynamics) method. It was found that 1. Similar distribution of air velocity, air temperature and smoke concentration appeared in the case of upper left inlet and lower right outlet and the case of lower inlet and upper right outlet. 2. Distribution of temperature and smoke concentration was 0∼0.3, 0.06∼0.14 in the case of lower left inlet and upper right outlet. 3. the location of heat generation did not influence on the temperature distribution, but influence on the distribution of smoke concentration.

  • Air-water countercurrent flow limitation at perforated plates with four holes was investigated in a vertical tank to see the effects of the plate thickness, the number of hole, and the diameter of the hole on the onset of CCFL. The thickness of plates was 1 cm and 4 cm, with a relatively large hole diameter of 5 cm. The collapsed water level formed on the perforated plate and its distribution in the upper plenum were measured. The gas flow rate in the multi-hole plate is relatively higher than one in the single tube because some of holes in the multi-hole plate provide a flow path fur liquid with less air-liquid resistance than in the single tube. The onset of CCFL occurred at nearly the same air flow rate regardless of the plate thickness. The negligible effect of the plate thickness on CCFL means that the flooding is initiated at the top of the plate rather than at its bottom. It turns out that $j_k$ and $K_k$ better fit the data than $H_k$ when hole diameter is greater than 2.86 cm. In our experimental ranges, the collapsed water levels at the onset of CCFL ranged from 7.5 cm to 10.5 cm. There was no three dimensional distribution of water level before and after the onset of CCFL.

  • Numerical analysis of 150kW Huels-type arc jet was performed using compressible Navier-Stokes CFD code. To consider chemical reaction by high temperature, the flow was assumed to be chemical equilibrium states. As a turbulence and a radiation model, the two-equation k-epsilon model and the 3-band radiation model were adopted, respectively. Mass flow rate and current density were given as conditions for calculations. In this study, two kinds of mechanisms for injection of air flow wire considered. One is that air is provided by left wall surface and the other is that air is injected from upper wall surface. The pressure, density and temperature contours of two cases were compared and heat transfer rates were estimated. The numerical results of two cases were not much different to each other. However, in real 150KW device, air is injected from upper wall surface with swirl. To calculate more accurately, swirl effect is must be considered.

  • This study investigates the air resistance due to deflector configurations of commonly used largetrucksat a driving speedof 80 km/h. Of the 6 models that are considered, the drag causedby the pressure on the front part of the trailer is largest for model 1. For model 1, the lift caused by the difference between the velocities of the upper and lower streams isgreatest amongall the models. Model 6 has the least resistance against the flow stream consideringthedrags and lifts of theflow models. Anoptimal design can be obtainedby investigating thesimulation analysis ofvarious deflector configurationsfor the upper part of largetrucks; this optimum deflector configuration will help reduce the air resistanceon large trucks.
