The vibration of elastically supported bidirectional functionally graded (BDFG) sandwich beams on an elastic foundation is investigated. The sandwich structure is composed of upper and lower layers of BDFG material and the core layer of isotropic material. Material properties of upper and lower layers are assumed to vary continuously along the length and thickness of the beam with a power-law function. Hamilton's principle is used to deduce the vibration equations of motion of the sandwich Timoshenko beam. Then, the partial differential equation of motion is spatially discretized into a time-varying ordinary differential equation in terms of Chebyshev differential matrices. The eigenvalue equation associated with the free vibration is formulated to study the influence of various slenderness ratios, material gradient indexes, thickness ratios, foundation and support spring constants on the vibration frequency of BDFG sandwich beams. The present method can provide researchers with deep insight into the impact of various geometric, material, foundation and support parameters on the vibration behavior of BDFG sandwich beam structures.
This paper dealed with thickness variation of bottom heat sotrage zone due to salinity and flow rate of extration hot brine in small test solar pond (0.5m wide, 0.5m high, 1.0m long). Testing apparatus and situation were follows: 7.1 cm of height of suction diffuser and 1.8cm of height of discharge diffuser above the test pond respectively, 0.3cm of slot size of suction diffuser, 1.0cm of slot size of discharge diffuser, 47cm of length of the slot; heating of hot water ($75^{\circ}C$) through separated hot water tank, discharge of the brine into storage zone through discharge diffuser, the extration of the brine through suction diffuser, circulation of the extracted brine through a heat exchanger (cooler). Following results were obtained through the experiments. 1. In small test solar pond, the typical three zone which showed up in real solar pond were established. 2. Richardson Number was used more effectively to confirm hydrodynamic stability of the stratified flow. 3. The thickness of non convective layer had a great effect on the heat storage of the bottom convective layer, then the temperature of bottom convective layer had a relation to that of upper convective layer. 4. Optimum operating condition in the test pond was on 10%-15% of salt concentration and $0.05m^3/hr$ of flow rate of extraction hot brine. 5. Following thickness of 3 zones were available to obtain under optimum operation condition: o bottom storage zone: $30%{\pm}10%$ of total pond depth o non-convective zone: $40%{\pm}10%$ of total pond depth o Upper surface zone: $20%{\pm}10%$ of total pond depth.

In this study, uniform pressure distribution with small hole on the surface of symmetric object were given to reduce the viscous frictional force. The results were as follows : 1. The velocity on upper stream were accelerated by uniform pressure distribution on symmetric objects for reducing the viscous frictional resistances. 2. The effects of the distributed small holes were reduced the viscous frictional resistances in down stream region more than upper stream due to the increasing pressure in reverse flow region. 3. The viscous skin friction on surface of symmetric objects with and without distributed small holes are effect in region of upper stream and much decreased in down stream region due to increasing of boundary layer thickness.
A problem of outlet salinity from a stratified fluid with a well developed interface thickness consisting of an upper and lower layer differing slightly in density is considered. Three kinds of apparatus were used for the experimental test and salinity differences between inlet layer and outlet discharge were estimated by the functional relationship using the dimensionless values. For the critical incipient condition of withdrawal of upper layer, Densimetric Froude number is correlated by the inlet diameter and depth ratio in the tank.

During asymmetrical cold rolling in AA 5052 sheet a reduction per a rolling pass was varied to investigate the effect of the ratio of the contact length between the roll and sample ($l_c$) to the sheet thickness (d) on the formation of shear textures. In order to intensify the shear deformation during asymmetrical rolling, AA 5052 sheet was asymmetrically cold rolled without lubrication by using different roll velocities of upper and lower rolls. Asymmetrical rolling with $l_c$/d=1.8 led to the formation of texture gradients throughout the sheet thickness in which the outer thickness layers depicted shear textures and the center thickness layers displayed a rolling texture. Asymmetrical rolling with $l_c$/d=3.1 gave rise to the formation of shear textures in the whole through-thickness layer. The strain states associated with asymmetrical rolling were investigated by the finite element method (FEM) simulation. FEM results indicated that the evolution of deformation texture in a thickness layer is strongly governed by integrated values of strain rates and along the streamline in the roll gap.

The bearing capacity of the sand foundation including a thin dense sand layer depends on the stiffiness, thickness and the location of the dense sand layer. In this paper was the influence of the dense sand layer on both the bearing capacity and the failure configuration is studied by means of K.E.M(Kinematic Element Method). K.E.M was implemented to get the excat solution starting from the upper bound of the analysis. The result show that the bearing capacity of the foundation and the failure configuration is greatly influenced by the dense sand layer, when the layer is located not deeper than 3/5 of the foundation width.
In this paper, we improved the light extraction efficiency by considering an additional upper layer on the top surface of a conventional LED. We simulated the LED's light emission as functions of the thickness and the refractive index of the upper layer, and analyzed how the condition improved the light efficiency. When the refractive index's range was from 1.05 to 1.40, the LED emission increased. For that case, the emission also increased as the thickness increased. We experimentally showed that the light extraction efficiency was improved about 22% by forming the upper layer on the top surface of an LED using material with refractive index 1.30 at 589.3 nm. It is expected that forming the upper layer on an LED can easily improve the extraction efficiency.
The dispersion of suspended particulates in the coastal complex terrain of mountain-inland basin (city)-sea, considering their recycling was investigated using three-dimensional non-hydrostatic numerical model and lagrangian particle model (or random walk model). Convective boundary layer under synoptic scale westerly wind is developed with a thickness of about I km over the ground in the west of the mountain, while a thickness of thermal internal boundary layer (TIBL) is only confined to less than 200m along the eastern slope of the mountain, below an easterly sea breeze circulation. At the mid of the eastern slop of the mountain, westerly wind confronts easterly sea breeze, which goes to the height of 1700 m above sea level and is finally eastward return flow toward the sea. At this time, particulates floated from the ground surface of the city to the top of TIBL go along the eastern slope of the mountain in the passage of sea breeze, being away the TIBL and reach near the top of the mountain. Then those particulates disperse eastward below the height of sea-breeze circulation and widely spread out over the coastal sea. Total suspended particulate concentration near the ground surface of the city is very low. On the other hand, nighttime radiative cooling produces a shallow nocturnal surface inversion layer (NSIL) of 200 m thickness over the inland surface, but relatively thin thickness less than 100m is found near the mountain surface. As synoptic scale westerly wind should be intensified under the association of mountain wind along the eastern slope of mountain to inland plain and further combine with land-breeze from inland plain toward sea, resulting in strong wind as internal gravity waves with a hydraulic jump motion bounding up to about 1km upper level in the atmosphere in the west of the city and becoming a eastward return flow. Simultaneously, wind near the eastern coastal side of the city was moderate. Since the downward strong wind penetrated into the city, the particulate matters floated near the top of the mountain in the day also moved down along the eastern slope of the mountain, reaching the. downtown and merging in the ground surface inside the NSIL with a maximum ground level concentration of total suspended particulates (TSP) at 0300 LST. Some of them were bounded up from the ground surface to the 1km upper level and the others were forward to the coastal sea surface, showing their dispersions from the coastal NSIL toward the propagation area of internal gravity waves. On the next day at 0600 LST and 0900 LST, the dispersed particulates into the coastal sea could return to the coastal inland area under the influence of sea breeze and the recycled particulates combine with emitted ones from the ground surface, resulting in relatively high TSP concentration. Later, they float again up to the thermal internal boundary layer, following sea breeze circulation.

The study of girder-to-column joints under experiment and numerical analysis was carried out to evaluate change of the flexural capacity of the joints with the 2-layer upper reinforcement of girder within rectangular section and the single-layered upper reinforcement at the girder flange. According to the analysis results using the flange width, the flange thickness and the location of reinforcements in the upper flange as variables, in the models with a same effective width, the increasing rate of capacity has nothing to do with the flange width with a same effective width. However, the capacity of the models with the upper reinforcements arranged close to the rectangular beam section is larger than that of the models with the upper reinforcements arranged remotely from the rectangular section. If the range of arrangement fur reinforcement exceeds the effective width, despite of increasing the flange thickness, the capacity is not increased.

Purpose: This study was undertaken to quantitatively estimate the degree of the damage and recovery of the irradiated rat condylar cartilage using the Image Analyzer. Materials and Methods: Experimental animals were 16 male rats of the Sprague-Dawley strain at the age of 20 day irradiated with the dose of 10 Gy in their head and neck region. Four rats were sacrificed at the each of the following time intervals - 1, 4, 7 and 14 days, respectively. The same number of control group animals were sacrificed at the each age of 21. 24, 27 and 34 days, respectively. The specimens were stained with 0.5% toluidine blue and examined with light microscope. The condylar cartilage was divided into 4 zones; fibrous zone, proliferating zone, upper hypertrophic zone, and lower hypertrophic zone. And then, the proliferating zone was subdivided into 2 layers - upper and lower layer, and upper and lower hypertrophic zone were subdivided into three layers, respectively - upper, middle and lower layer. With the aid of Image Analyzer, morphometric analysis was performed. The thickness, the numerical density of cells, the cell area density, the extracellular matrix area density, the mean area of single cell, the mean area of extracellular matrix per single cell were measured and analysed. Results: In the experimental group, the thickness of the fibrous zone was slightly increased and that of the proliferating zone and the upper and the lower hypertrophic zone was markedly decreased. With time, the thickness of the fibrous zone was gradually increased and that of the proliferating zone and the upper and the lower hypertrophic zone was steadily in the decreased state. The numerical density of cells of the proliferating zone was increased on post-irradiated 1 day, but decreased after post-irradiated 4 day, and that of the upper hypertrophic zone was decreased. The numerical density of cells of the lower hypertrophic zone was decreased in the early stage and then was decreased or not significantly different from that of the control group with time. In the experimental group, the cell area density of the fibrous zone and the proliferating zone was decreased in the early stage and then gradually increased or not significantly different from that of the control group with time. The cell area density of the upper and the lower hypertrophic zone was varied with time. The extracellular matrix area density value were totally opposite to the cell area density values: The mean area of single cell of the fibrous zone and the proliferating zone was .decreased on post-irradiated 1 day, and increased after post-irradiated 4 day. The mean area of single cell of the upper hypertrophic zone was varied with each layer and time. In the experimental group, the mean area of extracellular matrix per single cell of the fibrous zone was not significantly different with control group, and that of the proliferating zone was decreased on post-irradiated 1 day, and increased after post-irradiated 4 day. The mean area of extracellular matrix per single cell of the lower hypertrophic zone was increased in the early stage. and that of upper hypertrophic zone was varied with each layer and time. Conclusion: The condylar cartilages of rats were affected by irradiation, but the changes were vaned with each layer and time. By morphometric analysis. the changes of the cells of the condylar cartilage of irradiated rat could be calculated quantitatively.
