토크 컨버터 내부의 비정상 후류 유동특성에 대한 수치해석 연구 (A Numerical Study of Unsteady Wake Flow Characteristics in a Torque Converter)

  • In the present study, a transient incompressible viscous turbulent flow is simulated for the automotive torque converter with moving mesh technique. For the analysis, entire torque converter flow passages are modeled. Computed torque ratio, capacity factor and efficiency show a good agreement with the experiment data. The flow instabilities characterized by back-flow and wake etc. appeared in some cascade passages are shown to be Propagating along tangential direction. These flow patterns are mainly influenced by the pump and turbine blade passing and can't be predicted through conventional steady simulation with a mixing plane approach. The understanding of the unsteady flow characteristics in a torque converter achieved in the present study may lead to the optimal design of a torque converter.

  • The transient incompressible flow behind the widely-spaced co-axial jet is numerically simulated using the random vortex method(RVM). This numerical approach is based on the Lagrangian approach for the vorticity formulation of the unsteady Navier-Stokes equations, utilizing vortex elements to account for the convection and diffusion processes. The effects of the mass flow rate of an annular air jet and a central fuel jet on the co-axial jet flow dynamics is investigated. To validate the present procedure, the numerical results are compared with the available experimental data the present procedure, the numerical results are compared with the available experimental data in terms of the centerline and off-centerline profiles of the mean axial velocity. Discrepancies between the RVM results and the measurements are discussed in detail.

  • In a scroll compressor it is generally accepted that a check valve is necessary to prevent reverse rotation of the scrolls. The check valve is subjected to discharge pulsations and their resultant forces. The flow phenomena around the check valve may affect the efficiency and the noise level significantly. The motivation of this study is to understand the flow phenomena and the unstable motion of the check valve on operating conditions in order to identify reasons raising noise and improve the performance of the check valve. In this study, unsteady flow simulation was performed using CFD and the pressure distribution around the check valve was obtained. This paper also shows that unstable motion of the check valve on standard operating conditions through theoretical analysis and flow visualization.

  • 본 연구에서는 초음속 공동 주위에서 발생하는 비정상 유동현상을 이해하고, 공동시스템이 설치된 장치의 성능 및 안정적인 운전을 방해할 수 있는 공동유동의 압력진동을 제어할 수 있는 방법을 제시한다. 사각형의 공동을 지나는 초음속 유동장은 3차원 비정상 압축성 Wavier-Stokes 방정식에 완전 내제적 유한체적법 및 large eddy simulation을 적용하여 수치모사하였다. 수치계산은 공동전단 근처에 설치된 삼각돌기나 블로잉 제트가 초음속 공동유동장의 유동특성에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 본 수치계산 결과로부터 이러한 제어방법들이 특히 공동후단 부근에서 발생하는 강한 압력진동을 억제하는데 효과가 있음을 알 수 있다.

Unsteady Simulations of the Flow in a Swirl Generator, Using OpenFOAM

  • This work presents numerical results, using OpenFOAM, of the flow in the swirl flow generator test rig developed at Politehnica University of Timisoara, Romania. The work shows results computed by solving the unsteady Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes equations. The unsteady method couples the rotating and stationary parts using a sliding grid interface based on a GGI formulation. Turbulence is modeled using the standard k-${\varepsilon}$ model, and block structured wall function ICEM-Hexa meshes are used. The numerical results are validated against experimental LDV results, and against design velocity profiles. The investigation shows that OpenFOAM gives results that are comparable to the experimental and design profiles. The unsteady pressure fluctuations at four different positions in the draft tube is recorded. A Fourier analysis of the numerical results is compared whit that of the experimental values. The amplitude and frequency predicted by the numerical simulation are comparable to those given by the experimental results, though slightly over estimated.

  • Middle Route Project, the largest water conveyance system in China delivers the water of Changjiang River to North China. In order to create canal operation simulation system, mathematical models are established based on the analysis of hydraulics about steady flow, unsteady flow, and check gate. By simulating the canal operation behavior, we improved the check gate control algorithm and predicted the change process of water surface and flow profile which is very valuable to actual canal operation.

  • This paper investigates LES of turbulent combustion flow based on 2-scalar flamelet approach, where a G-equation and a conserved scalar equation simulate a propagation of premixed flame and a diffusion combustion process, respectively. The turbulent SGS modeling on these flamelet combustion approach is also researched. These LES models are applied to an industrial flows in a full scale gasturbine combustor with premixed and non-premixed flames. The numerical results predict the characteristics of experiment temperature profiles. Unsteady features of complex flames in combustor are also visualized.

포트홀 압출의 소성유동에 대한 이론 및 실험적 연구 (A Theoretical and Experimental Study on the Plastic Flow in Porthole Extrusion)

  • The paper is concerned with plastic flow in the port and welding chamber of rectangular hollow section extrusion through the porthole die. The extrusion process is analyzed by numerical simulation and experiments in the unsteady state. The effects of types of inlet with and without taper on the flow and extrusion load are mainly discussed and compared by FEA and experiments. Experiments are carried out by using the plasticine as a model material at room temperature. To visualize the plastic flow in the extrusion process, some split dies and punches are designed and manufactured by EDM. The theoretical predictions by FEM are reasonable agreements with experimental results on the deformed configurations and welding lines.
