간호대학생의 문화 간 의사소통 능력에 미치는 영향변인 (Variables Affecting the Intercultural Communication Skills of Nursing Students)

  • Purpose: This study attempted to determine multicultural awareness, empathy and intercultural skill communication of nursing students and to identify the variables that influence intercultural communication skills. Methods: The subjects were 238 nursing students. The research subjects were the students in the third and fourth grade of the Department of Nursing of five four-year universities located in D city, A city and Y city in Gyeongbuk region. Data were collected from March 11 to 22, 2013 by using self-report questionnaires. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple regression with the SPSS/WIN. Ver. 18.0 programs. Results: The affecting variables of intercultural communication skill were multicultural awareness (${\beta}=.47$), empathy (${\beta}=.38$), other foreign languages (${\beta}=.16$) and multicultural interests (${\beta}=.09$). These variables accounted for 67.0% of the affecting intercultural communication skill. Conclusion: Based on these findings, more systematic multicultural education that can be used for multicultural subjects is needed to be conducted at nursing schools. In particular, programs considering the subjects who do not have neither foreign friends around them nor experience of staying abroad need to be developed.

수학화에 의한 도형지도에서 학생의 학습과정 연구 (The Processes of Students' Learning Geometry through Mathematization)

  • As the 7th mathematics curriculum reform in Korea was implemented with its goal based on Freudenthal's perspectives on mathematization theory, the research on the effect of mathematization has been become more significant. The purpose of this thesis is not only to find whether this foreign theory would be also applied effectively into our educational practice in Korea, but also to investigate how much important role teachers should play in their teaching students, in order that students accomplish the process of mathematization more effectively. Two case studies were carried out with two groups of middle-school students using qualitative-research method with the research instrument designed by the researcher. It was found that we could get the possibility of being able to apply effectively this theory even to our educational practice since the students engaged in their mathematization using the horizontal mathematization and the vertical mathematization in geometry. Also, it was mentioned that teachers' role was so important in guiding students' processes of mathematization, although mathematization is the teaching-learning theory, stimulating students' activities. Since the Freudenthal's mathematization applied in the thesis is so meaningful in our educational practice, we need more various research about this theory that helps students develope their mathematical thinking.

간호학생을 위한 국제보건역량강화 프로그램의 개발 및 효과 (Development and Effect of a Global Health Capacity Building Program for Nursing Students)

  • Purpose: This study developed a short-term education program aiming to strengthen global health capacity in nursing students, and examined the effects of the program. Methods: The subjects of this study were 83 students recruited from 29 nursing colleges. Domestic workshops and overseas training in the Philippines were offered. For data collection and analysis, the triangulation method was adopted. Results: Students' critical thinking disposition and global leadership capacity were significantly increased. Thematic content analysis derived fifteen themes: expansion of global health, understanding of cultural diversity, vision of being a global leader, cultivation of communication skills, open mind toward people with different culture, pride and vocation, understanding of nursing in foreign countries, understanding of visiting nurse service, sustainability, understanding of local needs and environments, and education methods with an emphasis on participants, broader view and thinking of the world, reflection on the characteristics of a nurse, development through cooperation, and development through programs. Conclusion: The global health capacity building program improved nursing students' view of global health and nursing care. It is needed to develop continuously diverse global health capacity-building programs for nursing students.

우리나라 외국인 유학생의 이주 현황과 특성 : 이론적 논의와 실태 분석 (International Students in Korea : Theoretical Review and Statistical Analysis)

  • 최근 세계적으로 유학생들이 크게 증가하고 있으며, 우리나라도 예외가 아니다. 우리나라는 오랫동안 유학생의 주요 송출국의 하나였으며, 근래에는 이러한 추세가 유지되는 가운데 '유입유학' 혹은 '유치유학'이 가파르게 상승하고 있는 전환적 상황을 맞고 있다. 본 연구는 국제적 인구이동과 이에 따른 다문화공간의 형성이라는 관점에서 우선 유학생 이주문제에 대한 이론적 검토와 주요 연구 동량을 개관하고, 현재 파악 가능한 자료를 바탕으로 우리나라에 체류하고 있는 외국인 유학생의 추이와 실태를 분석하고 그 특성을 설명해 보고자 한다.

Examining Generalizability of Kang's (1999) Model of Structural Relationships between ESL Learning Strategy Use and Language Proficiency

  • The present study examined whether Kang's (1999) model of the relationships among language learning strategy use and language proficiency for the Asian students could be applied to a more heterogeneous group. In Kang's study, he collected information of language learning strategies of 957 foreign students learning English as a second language in American colleges through a questionnaire. He also measured the subjects' language proficiency with the Institutional Testing Program TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). This study analyzed the same data without the limitation of cultural identity. Structural equation modeling was used to model the relationships among strategy use and language proficiency. Then, the model of the present study was descriptively compared with Kang's (1999) model for the Asian students. The overall flow of the relationship paths appeared to vary very little across the two models, which would have indicated that the generalizability of Kang's (1999) model could be extended more than originally examined. 능력별 집단편성에 대한 교사와 학생의 인식 (A Study of Recognition About Students' Ability Grouping)

  • According to the paradigm of Neo-liberalism, the issue of ability grouping has grown more and more in education of Korea. And because of the influence of ability grouping, now ability grouping is enforcing partially in the subjects of English and Mathematics. But ability grouping is going to expand to the all subjects. So, it is very important that how teachers and students are recognize about partial ability grouping in the subjects of English and Mathematics. Because that information about partial ability grouping can guide direction for the future educational policy. The purpose of this study was to actually analyze teacher's and students' recognition of partial ability grouping in the subjects of English and Mathematics. To accomplish this purpose, 622 middles school students and 552 teachers were sampled. As a tool of investigation, questionnaires about teacher's and students' recognition of partial ability grouping had made by researcher of this study were used. And as processing of data, t-test, F-test, Scheff-test were used. The result of this study is as follow. First, teachers who are experiencing ability grouping recognized more negative about ability grouping than teachers who are not experiencing ability grouping. Second, students who have low ability recognized more negative about ability grouping than students who have high ability. Third, teachers who are experiencing ability grouping recognized more ineffective about ability grouping than teachers who are not experiencing ability grouping. Fourth, students who have low ability recognized more ineffective about ability grouping than students who have high ability.

외국인 이주자의 미시적 이주배경과 의사결정 과정 (Immigrants' Micro-Contexts of transnational Migration and Decision-Making Process)

  • 이 연구는 초국적 이주자의 미시적 이주배경과 의사결정과정을 결혼이주자, 이주노동자, 전문직 이주자, 외국인 유학생 등 4가지 이주유형별로 분석하고자 한다. 분석 결과, 첫째 본인의 직업이나 가정의 경제수준 및 소득원 등 미시적 이주 배경에 있어 결혼이주자와 이주노동자는 상대적으로 낮은 지위를 나타낸 반면, 전문직 이주자와 외국인 유학생은 높은 수준을 보였다. 둘째, 한국에 관한 이미지에 있어 지리적 인접성에서는 이주노동자가 가장 가깝게 느낀 반면, 문화적 유사성에 있어서는 결혼이주자가 이주노동자에 비해 다소 더 상이하게 인식하고 있다. 이주노동자와 외국인 유학생은 한국의 생활환경에 대해 다른 유형들보다 좋은 이미지를 가지고 있지만, 이주노동자는 한국의 기술 수준을 높게 평가한 반면, 외국인 유학생은 교육 수준을 상대적으로 낮게 평가했다. 셋째, 이주의 용이성 측면에서, 결혼이주자는 낮은 점수를 보였으며, 이주노동자와 전문직 이주자는 한국의 취업환경을 상대적으로 좋게 평가하고 있다. 넷째, 4가지 유형의 외국인 이주자들 모두에서 스스로 이주를 결정했다는 비율이 다른 사람들의 영향에 의해 결정했다는 비율보다도 더 높았다. 또한 전문직 이 주자는 다른 유형들에 비해 다른 국가를 방문한 경험이 월등히 높았지만, 결혼이주자와 외국인 유학생은 해외 거주 가족들과의 연계를 부분적으로 활용한 것으로 추정된다.

국내외 통계교육 연구동향 비교 분석 (A comparative analysis on research trends of statistics education between Korea and overseas)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze research trends and specific features in the statistics education between Korea and overseas. For this purpose, a total of 180 articles presented in 4 domestic and 4 foreign journals of the mathematics education and statistics education was investigated. The result findings are as follows. First, more than half of researches have been carried out in teaching and learning, understanding of statistical concepts in both of domestic and foreign journals. Second, some researches on the affective effect were carried out in foreign journals, but not in domestic journals. Third, researches on the teacher education were carried out mainly for the pre-service teachers in domestic journals, but mainly for the in-service teachers in foreign journals. Fourth, empirical study was mainly used for the research method in domestic journals while both empirical and non-empirical study were used in foreign journals. Fifth, subjects of research were mainly secondary students in domestic journals, but over undergraduate students in foreign journals.

Teachers' Perspectives on Content-based Instruction in English at a Higher Education in Korea

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate teachers' perspectives on content-based instruction (CBI) in English at a higher education in Korea. Based on the assumption that content-based instruction programs could be successful if teachers were actively involved not only in transmitting the content knowledge but also in students' development in the second or foreign language competence, the study explores teachers' treatments of language in relation to the students' language development in CBI classes. Research questions were related to five areas such as (1) the goals of CBI programs, (2) difficulties in CBI classes, (3) the use of native language, (4) teaching strategies and techniques, and (5) factors that affect the success of the CBI programs. Data gathered from 24 college instructors from a large university located in the metropolitan city of Korea. Results of the study indicated that college instructors of CBI programs had keen interest in developing students' language competence, experienced difficulties in designing course syllabus for mixed leveled group of students, rarely used Korean in class and used successful teaching strategies. Also factors needed to improve the CBI programs were recommended at the end of the study. Results of the study implied that teachers needed to be more aware of the students' learning process of English and to be more communicative with students in English in class. Further studies were needed in relation to the CBI courses for students of different age levels.
