This study examined the perceptions of freshmen students on the use of a university library site. The students were in the beginning month of their undergraduate program in Hansung University without being taught a formal library instruction session. The results show users experienced uncertainty, difficultly, confusion and anxiety while they were interacting with various functions of the library site. The findings revealed that the users' perceptions were originated from: (1) the insufficiency of the students' knowledge and skills related to library use and (2) the inadequacy of the library system features, in particular its interface features. Based on the findings, implications to improve library instructional services and system interfaces are suggested.

This study investigated the situation of the Korea University and College libraries under the Japanese Occupation of Korea. Keijo Imperial University Library and Bosung College Library were subsidiary agencies and the other libraries were a section or a department. Keijo Commercial High College Library, Bosung College Library and Soongsil College Library had separate building, and the other college libraries shared a building with other sections or departments in the college. Keijo Imperial University Library had the largest staff and the other libraries had between one and four staff members.

This study analyzed the web style guide of five foreign university library web sites and extracted the web site components of main university libraries in ten domestic areas and then drew the common factors from the components. This study also found out the unity and rule in the general design trends of university library web sites. In order to do this, the results for the usability and accessibility of university library web sites were applied to this study. And being based on it. this study presents the web style guide components of the university libraries which are the factors to endow the web site with the consistently visual identity.

This study is on the external environment of University library organization, to establish the theoretical background of scientific organization. The library is heavily influenced by its environment and much of the library manager's time is spent trying to reduce these envitronmental influences. The library, basic facility of the university has two environments: external and internal. The external environment is consist of educational, political, economical, cultural, technological and physical environment in society, Internal environment is consist of the university and the library condition. Several subjects of external environment which effect the construction of library organization are selected the elements of this study.

The ultimate mission of the university library is to provide the various information services in support of the teaching, research, and public service missions of the university. The achievement of the mission requires the optimal development and timely revision of university library standard that can be used as an operating guidelines and assessment tools. On the basis of this justification, this study has compared the trend and feature of library standards in major countries(USA, Canada, UK, Japan, Taiwan), analysed the problems and limitations of legal and recommended standards in Korea, and suggested the revised plan of Korean university library standard focusing on collections, staffs, and facilities.

Knowledge Management (KM) has become a fundamental process for all types of institutions in society. Academic libraries are also an integral part of the knowledge system, these institutions being one of the forms that contribute to knowledge development. This study aims to find out the challenges and opportunities associated with KM practices in Dhaka University Library (DUL). The specific objectives were to ascertain the understanding of KM concepts among library professionals of DUL, to explore an overview of KM and its role, and to identify the rationale behind not practicing KM properly at DUL. Appropriate methods were employed. The findings indicate that limited expertise and lack of clear guidelines are the major challenges for the implementation of KM in DUL.

The purpose of this article is to discuss about the progress and problems in Korean academic library policies. The emphasis is on identifying both contents and limitations in national plans for developing academic libraries, and investigating the current status and characteristics of major policy driving forces such as national library policy committees, government organizations, and professional associations. Also investigated is the current status and unique features of legal foundations, especially the present Korean Library Act and a tentatively named Korean University Library Promotion Act, which is being prepared for legislation. Finally this article suggests both direction and strategy for a healthy development of Korean academic library policies at national level.

The purpose of this study is to suggest some interior design directions for university library in the circumstances of rapid change of user's demand for the library. In order to extract some ideas about designing the library, I analyzed the libraries of UC Berkeley which has tried to transform the existing condition of the building for satisfying user's new needs. Informations of compositions, layouts of furnitures and book shelves, environmental conditions of 25 branch libraries of UC Berkeley, and spatial behavior patterns in libraries were surveyed and analyzed to get insights to design a new model of library buildings. The interesting phenomena got from the survey is that most of the library users used their own laptop computer in the library regardless of environmental conditions of the library or book types. In conclusion, as the library is changing to the place of studying, not of reading books, four design directions for the library are suggested in this research as like these; 1) Establishing a Regulation Free Environment for a user, 2) Enhancing the Aura of Books as an Interior Design Element, 3) Supplying Personalized Spatial Characters, and 4) Providing an Impactful Space.

With accommodation of a population of many young people and families due to Hangang River New Town Housing Project and development of railway station spheres, a need is increasing to improve the quality of public libraries service for Gimpo citizens and to establish more libraries. This study thus analyzed the book lending data of Gimpo City libraries, and the city's libraries-related social media big data in an effort to forecast the users, and thus to propose four library service improvement measures. First, in terms of book gathering and book development policy plans, a proposal was made to expand good books for children and youth, and to expand general original-language books related to learning of English, and English books for children. Second, in terms of the establishment of additional libraries or specialization strategy, a proposal was made to establish exclusive children's libraries or English libraries, and to establish library specialization strategy with a focus on children and English themes. Third, in terms of library culture programs, a proposal was made to provide library culture programs in relation to children education and to expand weekend library culture programs. Fourth, in terms of library facilities, considering the convenience of parking facilities, a proposal was made to establish libraries near apartment complexes.

This study is to analyze correlations between 10 factors related to university libraries and the number of professional staff, nonprofessional staff, and total library staff of university libraries in Korea and United States of America. The results of this study are summarized as follows: 1. In the case of Korea, there are high positive correlations between the number of total library staff and 7 of 10 variables (coefficient : 0.76-0.99) ; between the number of professional staff and 7 of 10 variables, same as the above (coefficient : 0.76-0.99) ; between the number of nonprofessional staff and 4 of 10 variables (coefficient 0.73-0.93). In the case of America, there are high positive correlations between the number of total library staff and 6 of 10 variables (coefficient : 0.74-0.97) ; between the number of professional staff and 5 of 10 variables (coefficient : 0.78-0.87): between the number of nonprofessional staff and 6 of 10 variables (coefficient : 0.73-0., 96). 2. All the. rank orders of correlation coefficients of two countries show little significant difference, by the results of the Spearman's Rank Order Correlation analysis (coefficient : total staff, 0.9152: professional staff, 0.8667 ; nonprofessional staff, 0.9030) 3. In the case of Korea, among the above factors, correlations of the total university expenditure and the library expenditure show a significant difference more than ones of the other factors. On the other hand, in the case of American professional staff, the correlations of the library expenditure, the library materials expenditure and the volumes in library show a significant difference more than ones of the other factors, while in the case of American nonprofessional staff, only the library expenditure shows a significant difference more than the others. 4. In the results of the correlation analysis between the professional staff and nonprofessional staff in Korea, the number of graduate enrollments, volumes in library, library expenditure and total university expenditure show higher positive correlation to the professional staff than the nonprofessional staff. However, in the case of America, the library expenditure and the library materials expenditure show higher positive correlation to the nonprofessional staff than the professional staff, while the university expenditure per student shows higher positive correlation to the professional staff. 5. In the results of the correlation analysis between Korea and America, in the case of the total library staff, the undergraduate enrollments, the total university expenditure and the library expenditure show higher positive correlation to Korea than America, and in the case of the professional staff, the graduate, enrollments, the volumes in library and the above 3 factors also show higher positive correlation to Korea than America. But in the case of the nonprofessional staff, the graduate enrollments, the volumes in library and library materials expenditure show higher correlation to America than Korea, while the total university expenditure shows the o n.0, pposit phenomenon of the above. And the other factors by the type of staff are little significant difference between two countries.
