Ear reconstruction is very difficult to perform and often results in a devastating deformity. The use of microsurgical replantation techniques has allowed very favorable anesthetic results. We report a case of a partial ear replantation without venous repair with the use of medicinal leeches to decompress the acute venous congestion during the postoperative care. The medicinal leech therapy can be very useful in a partial ear replantation in cases with no venous repair.

The neuroma is a tumor of nerve tissue that partially or completely severed through incomplete regeneration process. Neuromas that formed in the stump of a limb following amputation is a cause of the stump pain and can make intractable pain. The authors report a rare case of 36-year-old man with neuroma at stump, which has been recurred three times. This patient was treated with end-to-end neurorrhaphy after resecting neuroma. Follow-up at out-patient clinic showed satisfied result.

The activity-guided fractionation upon the MeOH extract of the aerial parts of Sorbaria sorbifolia var. stellipila led to the isolation of two cucurbitacin-compounds, cucurbitacin D and cucurbitacin F, as active principles. Two compounds were shown to exhibit significant cytotoxicity against cultured human tumor cell lines, A-549, SK-OV-3, SK-MEL-2, XF-498, and HCT 15.

In this study, (5-chloro-2(3H)-benzoxazolon-3-yl)propanamide derivatives were synthesized. The chemical structures of the compounds were elucidated by their IR and $^1H-NMR$ spectral data and microanalysis. The compounds were tested for anti nociceptive activity by using the tail clip, tail flick, hot plate, and writhing methods. The varying levels of anti nociceptive activity of the compounds were compared with those of dipyrone and aspirin. Among these compounds, compound 5e, 5g, and 5h have been found to be significantly more active than the others and the standards in all the tests.

A new benzofuran derivative, named gymnastone [5-hydroxy-6-acetyl-2-(2-propane-1,2,3-triol)-benzofuran (1)], was isolated from the aerial part of Gymnaster koraiensis, together with viscidone (2) by repeated column chromatography. The structures of both compounds were identified by physico-chemical and spectral analysis including COSY, HMQC, and HMBC experiments.

In our efforts to discover novel phytoestrogens to treat menopausal symptoms, eleven furanocoumarins were isolated from Angelica dahurica and tested for their estrogenic activity on the Ishikawa cell line. Among the compounds tested, 9-hydroxy-4-methoxypsoralen and alloisoimperatorin showed strong abilities to induce alkaline phosphatase (AP) with $EC_{50}$ values of 1.1 and $0.8\;{\mu}g/mL$, respectively, whereas the other nine furanocoumarins were weakly or only slightly active.

A hight performance liquid chromatographic methods was developed for the seperation and determination of seven alkaloids in "sanjoin" (the seeds of Zizyphus jujuba Rhamnaceae), a plant with potent sedative activity. A reverse phase system of Lichrosorb RP-Select B column and 0.05 M potassium phosphate buffer (pH = 3.5)-acetonitrile with gradient elution was employed. Two known alkaloids, juzirine and lysicamine, were newly isolated fom "sanjoin"."sanjoin".oin&".ot;.

Rhinophyma is a painless benign tumor of the skin of the nose. It is the most severe form of rosacea. Rhinophyma is particularly rare among Asians. It can be treated with surgical resection using various methods, including scalpel excision, dermabrasion, cryosurgery, argon laser, carbon dioxide laser, and electrocautery. However, the gold standard treatment of rhinophyma remains unknown. In the present case, we debulked a giant rhinophyma with a scalpel and contoured it using a bur. Along with a relevant literature review, we present a case of rhinophyma in an Asian patient who was treated at no additional cost using a bur widely used in general plastic surgery.
