  • The methanolic extract of the twigs of Celtis chinensis was found to show inhibitory activity on acetylcholinesterase (AChE), an enzyme that plays a role in the metabolic hydrolysis of ACh. Bioassay-guided fractionation of the methanolic extract resulted in the isolation of N-p-coumaroyl tyramine. as an inhibitor on AChE. This compound inhibited AChE activity in a dose-dependent manner, and the $IC_50$ value of trans-N-p-coumaroyl tyramine was 34.5 $\mu$g/mL (122 $\mu$M).

  • Vascular anomalies are disorders of the endothelium and surrounding cells that can affect the vasculature and involve any anatomical structure. The most common problem associated with vascular anomalies is psychological distress related to disfigurement as well as functional defects, as many lesions affect the head and neck. This article provides an overview of the current clinical features that distinguish the major types of vascular anomalies that affect the head and neck.

  • An estimated 250 million people worldwide suffer from lymphedema. In the past, the first-line option for treatment was nonsurgical management, either in the form of compression garments or wrapping, or comprehensive decongestive therapy, with debulking surgery reserved for the more advanced cases. However, with improvements in microsurgical techniques and imaging modalities, surgical intervention is increasingly being utilized. This review highlights recent advancements in the surgical treatment of lymphedema, specifically focusing on improvements in imaging, surgical techniques, and prevention of lymphedema.

  • In this report, we performed the measurements of physical properties of optical discs as a long term preservation electronic recording device and showed how to improve the preservation method of them. We collect the 1,993 optical discs from the archives of the National Archives of Korea and tested various measurements. We used DVDT-SD4 equipment to measure the quality of data, deformation of disc, the various writing strategy and manufacturer derives, which can be happened in optical discs by physical factors. We found that th quality of data are closely related with write strategy between discs and drives. This relation gives us information about data quality in optical discs for long term preservation that can be obtained from the state between empty discs and optical drives before recording. Thus, the initial selection of optimal discs and drives is critical for long term recording data preservation and the data quality after long time preservation will not be much different from that of the initial ones.

  • Congress established the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) to ensure that the public has free access to the Government's information. Operated by the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO), the mission of the FDLP is to disseminate information products from all three branches of the Government to over 1,250 Depository libraries in the FDLP program nationwide. Depository libraries safeguard the American public's right to information by making Government information in all formats freely available. This paper discusses the role of the GPO and FDLP, the GPO's organizational structure, the Depository library's obligations and responsibilities, services and collections, referrals and networking, and the Depository's future and challenges.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the education programs for the archival librarian in Korea. The importance of archival work requires that archivists should receive an archival education at university. But there is no professional education programs in Korea. The interdisciplinary character of archival studies programs make it possible to place them in a variety of setting, such as a department of library and information science, department of history. Currently, archival education must assume a much more prominent role within the library and information science. Library and information science educators, increasingly concerned with their own survival, seek rational ways to diversify their area. They are looking at mergers with allied fields. Archival education programs will find a welcome home in a number of existing department of library and information science. Archival education programs could be provided according to three categories undergraduate coursework, master of archival studies, and continuing education programs. The body of knowledge that a student should master as part of an archival education program is classified here as basic knowledge of archival studies, specified knowledge of archives and records, practical knowledge of archives and records management, and complementary and contextual knowledge of archival studies.

  • Critical environmental elements for long term preservation of a paper are temperature, humidity, dust, light, contaminants in air, and mold. Especially, temperature and humidity need special care, because they can not only directly degrade paper but also affect the degradation of the other elements. Therefore methods to monitor variation of temperature and relative humidity were studied. One of the methods was to use preservation index for evaluating preservation environment. Since the evaluation for preservation environment of a stack room investigated firstly by D. K. Sebera, PI(preservation index) and TWPI(Time-Weighted Preservation Index) by IPI is made to evaluate relatively preservation environment in a stack room. T. Padfield developed method which could calculate easy PI and TWPI. In this study, the preservation environment of stack rooms for paper storage in NAK(National Archives Korea) was evaluated by PI and TWPI. PI and TWPI of stack rooms for paper storage in NAK maintained good condition but PI depended on season. Then the preservation environment of stack rooms for paper storage in NAK was required to maintain continuously PI and TWPI regardless of season change.

  • This article introduces the process of building Gongjuhak Archive that collects and databases data from various fields related to the region, enabling people to easily establish Gongju locality and lay the foundation for Gongju Studies. Gongjuhak Archive is built in accordance with the win-win development agreement between both Gongju City and Gongju University, and is proud to have played a pioneering role in the regional studies archive established by the local government. Therefore, we hope to share our concerns and experiences in building Gongjuhak Archive and to successfully develop it with regional studies archive building institutions across the country.

  • This article is about the emergence of Islamic modernism among Cham Muslim communities in Cambodia and Cochinchina during the early 20th century. Based on a combined critical reading of existing scholarship, historicized first-hand anthropological accounts, as well as archival sources from the National Archives of Cambodia and the Vietnam National Archives II, it argues accounts of modernists in these sources were either (1) cast through a French colonial reading of a Buddhist state lens and (2) cast through a Malay lens, based upon the Kaum Muda/Kaum Tua divide. First, it proceeds with a historical explanation of the emergence of Islam and the discourse used to describe Muslim communities in Vietnamese, French, and Cham language sources. Then, it turns the narrative toward an examination of the emergence of the "Kaum Muda" or "New Group" of reformist-minded modernist Muslims in early 20th century Cambodia. Delineating the networks of these intellectuals as they stretched across the border through Cochinchina, also highlights a pre-existing transnational element to the community, one that well predates current discussions of twenty-first-century transnationalism. Through a combination of the study of multiple language sources and historical methods, the article highlights the importance of polylingualism in the study of the history of Muslims in Southeast Asia.
