  • An efficient procedure for the preparation of 4-hydroxy-3-{1,2,3,4-tetra-hydro-3-[4-(4-trifluoromethylbenzyloxy)phenyl]-1-naphthyl}thiocoumarin (thioflocoumafen, 1a and 1b) is described. The key step in the synthesis involves the condensation reaction of 3-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-tetralol (2) with 4-hydroxy-1-thiocoumarin (3).

  • A series of novel cyclopropyl nucleosides was synthesized using the highly stereoselective Simmons-Smith reaction starting from 1,2:5,6-di-Ο-isopropylidene-D-mannitol. The structural assignments of these nucleosides were determined by NMR studies and X-ray crystallography. All the synthesized nucleosides were assayed against several viruses.

  • Bronchopleural fistula is a severe complication with a high mortality rate that occurs after pulmonary resection. Several treatment options have been suggested; however, it is a challenge to treat this condition without recurrence or other complications. In this case report, we describe the successful performance of a pedicled latissimus dorsi myocutaneous flap transfer, with no recurrence or donor site morbidity.

  • Two different, derivative spectrophotometric and gas-liquid chromatographic, procedures for direct quantitation of caffeine and some commonly dispensed antihistaminics in bulk forms, in their laboratory prepared mmixtures and in dosage formulations, have been investigated. The limit, sensitivity reproducibility and accuracy of each method were studied for each individual drug substance and in some usual pharmaceutical formulations.

Reaction of 2 with the chalcone analogue 2-thenylidene-2'-acetothienone, gave the pyrazoline derivative 8.

  • The $^1H- and^{13}C-NMR$ spectra of alaternin, aurantio-obtusin, chryso-obtusin, obtusin and 2-glucosyl obtusifolin isolated from the seeds of Cassia tora have been assigned based on HMBC, long-range HETCOR, fully $^1H-coupled {13}^C-NMR$, deuterium isotope experiment, and by comparison with the model compounds.
