Cryopreservation and low-temperature storage of seeds of Phaius tankervilleae

  • In this study we established reliable methods for conservation of seeds of Phaius tankervilleae as an orchid genetic resource. The seeds, which were dehydrated to 5% water content and preserved at $4^{\circ}C$, showed no decrease in viability and germinability after three months. After storage for six months, however, the seeds showed a drastic decrease in germinability, even though survival rate was high. For long-term preservation of seeds of P. tankervilleae, cryopreservation is applied to the freshly harvested seeds. When the seeds were cryopreserved by the vitrification method for up to 12 months there was no apparent deterioration effect of storage time. These results indicate that cryopreservation by the vitrification method is useful for long-term conservation of P. tankervilleae seeds, which are difficult to preserve for more than three months under dry and low-temperature conditions.

감포 지역의 제3기 층에서 산출되는 Ba-제올라이트인 웰자이트의 광물화학 및 열화학적 특성 (Mineral Chemistry and Thermo-chemical Characterization of Wellsite, a Barrian Zeolite, from the Tertiary Formation in Gampo Area)

  • Mineral description and mineralogical characterization were made for the wellsite, a barrian zeolite, which found as diagenetic alterations in the Miocene pyroclastic rocks in Gampo area. The wellsite occurs together with clinoptilolite, smectite and apatite as euhedral crystallites (0.2~0.4mm) forming interpenetraion twinning in the vesicles of altered pmice fragments. Compared to other reported wellsites, the wellsite is rather silicic (Si/(Al+Fe): 3.12-3.16) and Ca-rich. Unit cell dimensions and chemical formular determined from XRD, EMPA and TGA data are as follows:a=9.883$\AA$, b=14.204$\AA$, c=8.677$\AA$, $\beta$-124.764$^{\circ}$, (Ba0.57K0.36)(Ca1.18Na0.04)Al3.9Si12.1O32.13.9H2O.The cation composition of the Gampo wellsite, which shows an exchange reaction in the form of Ba2++Ca2+=2(K++Na-), is deviated far from the compositional range of a phillipsite-harmotome series. Due to higher abundance of divalent cations (Ca, Ba) and si in the wellsite, cimpared to those of the phillipsite and harmotome reported in other areas, the zeolite seems to be characteristic of higher water content (18.7 wt%) and higher thermal stability. XRD, chemical and thermo-chemical results of the wellsite reflects that wellsite is rather a Ba- and Ca-rich end member of a phillipsite-harmotome-wellsite series than an intermediate phase of phillipsite-harmotome series or a barrian variety of phillipste.

수재사 모르터의 강도특성에 관한 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Quality of Mortar Strength using the Quenched Blast-Furnace Slag)

  • Strength experimental on mortar which use Quenched Blast-Furnace Slag as aggregate was carried our for a fundamental study of application possibility of Quenched Blast-Furnace Slag as aggregate. It gives the following results. The strength of mortar use Quenched Blast-Furnace Slag is decrease as substitution rate is higher. As W/C rate increase, the strength decrease, but the strength decrease of fine aggregate rate 1:3 is lower than 1:2. The relation with fine aggregate is that the amount of fine aggregate is inversely proportional to strength. Th relation with age is proportional to strength and strength rate of going is lower than general mortar in 28 age the change of strength proportionately with W/C rate is that as W/C rate increases, th strength is drop ; it shows that it has same tendency as general mortar sand or crushed sand, but while W/C rate increase the strength is as high as general mortar. The reason can be assumed that water content per unit needed to Quenched Blast-Furance Slag is more than in case of sand. In addition, the relation with substitution rate is that the strength is the strongest at substitution rate 25% and 50% ; that is , sometimes it is higher than mortar which use sand 100%. In addition, long age strength of mortar which use Quenched Blast-Furnace Slag as aggregate is about to be studied in the last.

도토리 조전분 및 정제전분의 이화학적 특성 (Physicochemical Properties of Acorn Crude Starch and Acorn Refined Starch)

  • 도토리묵의 특성을 규명하기 위한 기초 연구로서, 도토리 조전분과 정제전분을 대비시켜 이화학적 특성을 비교.분석하였다. 일반성분을 분석한 결과는 수분함량만 정제전분이 약간 높고 나머지 일반성분들은 조전분에 훨씬 많았다. 한편 물결합능력 및 팽화력은 조전분과 정제전분이 거의 유사하기는 하지만 조전분이 다소 높은 값을 나타내었고, 광투과도로 측정한 전분의 호화온도는 모두 68$^{\circ}C$이었다. 그러나 아밀로그래프에 의한 호화온도는 $73 ^{\circ}C$이었고, 호화개시 이후의 점도는 조전분이 정제전분보다 훨씬 높은 값을 나타내었다. 그리고 도토리전분의 아밀로오스 함량은 28.8%로 분석되었고, 아밀로오스의 분자량은 20425, 그 중합도는 126이었으며, 아밀로펙틴을 포도당 100개당 4.77의 분지도를 나타내었으므로 아밀로펙틴 분자내에서 가지와 가지 사이의 평균 포도당 단위의 수는 21이었다.

국내산 수박의 유통 및 포장 실태 (A Study on Distribution and Packaging Status of Water Melon in Domestic Markets)

  • 국내배추의 유통 및 포장실태를 조사하고자 1999년 1월 중순부터 1999년 12월까지 생산지별로 전남. 북, 경남. 북 지역 출하실태를 산지단계, 도매 및 소매단계에서 포장실태를 조사하였다. 수박의 품위를 조사한 결과 4등급으로 거래되며 특대는 $8.91{\pm}1.06kg$으로 등급간에도 86%의 중량차이가 나타났고 당도의 경우 130%의 차이가 있었다. 유통단계별 포장실태는 산물출하가 대부분이었으며 일부에서 골판지 상자나 Wooden-Collar가 사용되고 있었다. 포장단위는 8-10kg, 한 개용 및 4개용 등이 미미하나마 포장하여 유통되고 있었다.

급랭 진로슬래그 모르타르 골재 재활용 특성 (Recycling of Chilled Converter Slag as Aggregate in Cement Mortar)

  • 본 연구에서는 용융 전로슬래그를 고속의 공기를 이용하여 급랭한 전로슬래그의 골제 특성을 조사하고 이를 잔골재로 재활용한 모르타르의 특성을 분석하였다. 급랭전로슬래그의 입자형태는 구형이었으며 냉각 속도의 차이로 인해 표면층과 내부층 그리고 외부와 연결된 공동을 가지고 있었다. 표준사를 구형 급랭전로슬래그로 대체한 혼합 잔골재의 특성을 분석한 결과 대체 비율이 증가하면서 비중, 단위용적중량 그리고 조립율이 증가하였으며 실적률은 대체 비율 75%에서 최대를 나타내었다. 흡수율은 대체 비율 50%에서 최소값을 보였다. 혼합 잔골재의 구형 급랭전로슬래그 대체 비율이 증가할수록 굳지 않은 모르타르의 유동성이 증가하여 동일한 플로우값을 얻기 위한 물/시멘트 비는 감소하였다. 구형 급랭전로슬래그 대체 비율이 증가할수록 양생한 모르타르 시편의 조직은 치밀하였으며 비중은 증가하였다. 압축강도의 경우는 대체율 75%에서 최대값을 보였다.

Experimental Study on the Carbonation Properties of Dry Desulfurized Gypsum

  • The use of fossil fuels is steadily increasing. The thermal power generation industry uses a lot of energy and emits a large amount of greenhouse gases. On the other hand, a desulfurization facility can be installed to remove sulfur content during boiler combustion process of the power plant. Dry desulfurized gypsum generated from dry desulfurization facilities is suitable as a $CO_2$ absorbing material due to the presence of CaO. In this study, the carbonation properties of dry desulfurized gypsum were investigated by carbonizing dry desulfurized gypsum via mixing with water and stirring. As a result of microstructural, XRD and thermal analyses of the carbonized dry desulfurized gypsum, the carbonation age was found to be suitable for 16 h. Dry desulfurized gypsum absorbs about 16% of $CO_2$ per unit weight.

Effect of Polycarbonate Covering Sheet on Greenhouse Indoor Environments and Growth Behavior of Cherry Tomatoes

  • The effect of a greenhouse-covering material on its indoor environment and on the characteristics of cherry tomatoes grown in it was investigated. The conventional polyethylene (PE) film on the greenhouse roof was replaced by a polycarbonate (PC) sheet, while maintaining the main structural frame intact. Color changes and the formation of water droplets on the PC surface were avoided by applying coextrusion and coating layers. When compared to the PE greenhouse, the PC greenhouse enabled increased light transmittance and thus a higher indoor temperature during both summer and winter. The thermal insulating property of the PC sheet effectively reduced the heating loss by approximately 55% during winter. The cherry tomatoes grown in the PC greenhouse exhibited superior fruit characteristics in terms of size, weight, and sugar content. The total amount of cherry tomatoes produced per unit area (1,000 ㎡) in the PC greenhouse was found to be greater by approximately 19% compared to that in the PE greenhouse.

동결건조한 두유 분말의 품질 특성 (Quality Characteristics of Freeze-Dried Soymilk Powder)

  • In this study, soybean is used to produce soymilk according to various extracting methods and heating time. Specifically, the soy slurry is being filtered before being heated, or heated before being filtered. Following that the soymilk produced is freeze-dried to be powdered, and then, the quality characteristics of the powdered soymilk are mutually compared to determine the applicability of various food additives. The freeze-dried soymilk powder shows 2.03~6.35% of moisture content, and in terms of unit quantity, retained more proteins, which suggests that the ratio of protein extraction is higher than any other nutrients. Accordingly, the protein coefficient is significantly higher in soymilk powder being heated and processed than in raw soybeans. In particular, protein coefficient is the highest in the soymilk which is heated for 20 minutes before being filtered (SHBF20). The longer the heating time was, the trypsin inhibitor (TI) tended to be far less active. Such an inactivation seems to be more apparent in the "SHAF" soymilk powder than "SHBF" soymilk powder. Because protein had to be denaturated by heating for soymilk, the nitrogen solubility index (NSI) of soymilk powder is decreased considerably, while the protein digestibility, water absorption, emulsification and foaming activity all increase. Oil absorption tends to decrease slightly. As discussed above, the soymilk heated for 10 minutes after being filtered (SHAF10) and the soymilk heated for 20 minutes before being filtered (SHBF20) show optimum processing conditions for soymilk powder.

마그네슘 합금 스크랩의 진공증류에 관한 연구 (Study on the Distillation of Magnesium Alloy Scrap)

  • To develop a recycling process of magnesium alloy scrap, a fundamental study on the distillation of magnesium alloy melt was carried out. Melt temperature, vacuum degree and reaction time were considered as experimental variables. The amount of vaporized magnesium melt per unit surface area of melt increases with the increase of melt temperature, reaction time and vacuum degree. The vapor condensed at the tip of water cooling Cu-condenser as a form of pine cone. Magnesium and zinc were vaporized easily from the melt. However, It's difficult to separate magnesium and zinc by vacuum distillation because vapor pressure of zinc is similar to one of magnesium. The contents of aluminum, manganese and iron, etc. in residual melt increase due to the decrease of magnesium and zinc content after the distillation of magnesium alloy.
