This paper presents a kinematic limit analysis for passive earth pressure of rigid retaining structures considering the unsaturation of the backfill. Particular emphasis in the current work is focused on the effects of the spatial change in the degree of saturation on the passive earth pressure under different steady-infiltration/evaporation conditions. The incorporation of change of effective unit weight with degree of saturation is the main contribution of this study. The problem is formulated based on the log-spiral failure model rather than the linear wedge failure model, in which both the spatial variations of suction and soil effective unit weight are taken into account. Parametric studies, which cover a wide range of flow conditions, soil types and properties, wall batter, back slope angle as well as the interface friction angle, are performed to investigate the effects of these factors on the passive pressure and the corresponding shape of potential failure surfaces in the backfill. The results reveal that the flow conditions have significant effects on the suction and unit weight of the clayey backfill, and hence greatly impact the passive earth pressure of retaining structures. It is expected that present study could provide an insight into evaluation of the passive earth pressure of retaining structures with unsaturated backfills.

This study was compared the variation system of body posture condition for stability by the posture. We used a model of bio parameter on the basis of the move state in the standing posture. We compared the sway movement derived from average of the physical sensing condition. Vision condition of variation average (Vi-${\sigma}_{AVG-AVG}$) was verified slightly greater at $13.746{\pm}4.05$ unit. Vestibular condition of variation average (Ve-${\sigma}_{AVG-AVG}$) was verified slightly larger at $7.829{\pm}1.071$ unit. Somatosensory condition of variation average (So-${\sigma}_{AVG-AVG}$) was verified slightly smaller at $2.592{\pm}0.538$ unit. CNS condition of variation average (C-${\sigma}_{AVG-AVG}$) was verified slightly larger at $0.46{\pm}0.105$ unit. The valuation system will be to deduce the model of body management with falling and stroke and all that sort of things. There will be to infer a data algorithm and the evaluation of processing system.

The acceleration of consolidation by stone columns was mostly analysed within the framework of a basic unit cell model (i.e. a cylindrical soil body around a column). A method of converting the axisymmetric unit cell into the equivalent plane-strain model would be required for two-dimensional numerical modelling of multi-column field applications. This paper proposes two practical simplified conversion methods to obtain the equivalent plane-strain model of the unit cell, and investigates their applicability to multi-column reinforced ground. In the first conversion method, the soil permeability is matched according to an analytical equation, whereas in the second method, the column width is matched based on the equivalence of column area. The validity of these methods is tested by comparison with the numerical results of unit-cell simulations and with the field data from an embankment case history. The results show that for the case of linear-elastic material modelling, both methods produce reasonably accurate long-term consolidation settlements, whereas for the case of elasto-plastic material modelling, the second method is preferable as the first one gives erroneously lower long-term settlements, where plastic yielding of stone column are ignored.

This paper presents an original approach for solving short-term power scheduling in extended power system with two fuels in a unit and a limited fuel using Lagrangian relaxations. The underlying model incorporates the full set of costs and constraints including setup, production, ramping, and operational status, and takes the form of a mixed integer nonlinear control problem. Moreover, the mathematical model developed includes two fuels in a unit and a limited fuel, regulation reserve requirements of prespecified group of units. Lagrangian relaxation is used to disaggregate the model by generator into separate subproblems which are then solved with a nested dynamic program including empirical knowledges. The strength of the methodology lies partially in its ability to construct good feasible solutions from information provided by the dual. Thus, the need for branch-and-bound is eliminated. In addition, the inclusion of two fuels in a unit and a limited fuel provides new insight into the limitations of current techniques. Computational experience with the proposed algorithm indicates that Problems containing up to 23 units including 8 unit used two fuels and 24 time periods can be readily solved in reasonable times. Duality gaps of less than 4% were achieved.

Most Rapid Prototyping (RP) processes adopt a solid Computer Aided Design (CAD) model, which will be sliced into thin layers of constant thickness in the building direction. Each cross-sectional layer is successively deposited and, simultaneously, bonded onto the previous layer; and eventually the stacked layers from a physical part of the model. A new RP process, the transfer-type Variable Lamination Manufacturing process using expandable polystyrene foam sheet (VLM-ST), has been developed to reduce building time and to improve the surface finish of parts with the thick layers and a sloping surface. This paper describes the generation of Unit Shape Layer (USL), the cutting path data of the linen. hotwire cutter for the VLM-ST process. USL is a three-dimensional layer with a thickness of more than 1 mm and a side slope, and it is the basic unit of cutting and building in the VLM-ST process. USL includes data such as layer thickness, positional coordinates, side angles of each layer, hotwire cutting speed, the heat input to the hotwire, and reference shape. The procedure of generating USL is as follows: (1)Generation of the mid-slice from the CAD model, (2)Conversion of the mid-slice into a simply connected domain, (3)Generation to the reference shape for the mid-slice, (4)Calculation of the rotation angle of the hotwire of the cutting system.

The accurate permeability for preform is critical to model and design the impregnation of fluid resin in the composite manufacturing process. In this study, the in-plane and transverse permeability for a woven fabric are predicted numerically through the coupled flow model which combines microscopic with macroscopic flow. The microscopic and macroscopic flow which are flows within the micro-unit and macro-unit cell, respectively, are calculated by using 3-D CVFEM(control volume finite element method). To avoid checker-board pressure field and improve the efficiency on numerical computation, A new interpolation function for velocity is proposed on the basis of analytic solutions. The permeability of plain woven fabric is measured through unidirectional flow experiment and compared with the permeability calculated numerically. Based on the good agreement of the results, the relationships between the permeability and the structures of preform such as the fiber volume fraction and stacking effect can be understood. The reverse and the simple stacking are taken in account. Unlike past literatures, this study is based on more realistic unit cell and the improved prediction of permeability can be achieved. It is observed that in-plane flow is more dominant than transverse flow in the real flow through preform and the stacking effect of multi-layered preform is negligible. Consequently, the proposed coupled flow model can be applied to modeling of real composite materials processing.

This study aims to evaluate the feasibility of remodeling business by predicting the future price of apartment house after remodeling using Hedonic Price Model. The data concerning such 9 independent variables as location, unit size, unit plan, landscape, parking, the number of elapsed years after completion, number of units, mechanical performance, interior from 25 regions in Seoul metropolitan city were collected and evaluated by established evaluation criteria. The coefficients affecting the price of apartment unit were made by way of linear multi-regression and put into Hedonic Price Model. The feasibility evaluation model for apartment was made and verified by data of remodelled apartment. The predicted results using suggested evaluation model coincide with actual apartment market situations.

Information systems quality engineering is one of the most problematic areas in practice and research, and needs cooperative efforts between practice and theory [Glass, 1996]. A model for evaluating the quality of system development process and ensuing success is proposed based on information processing theory of project unit design. A nomological net among a set of quality variables is identified from prior research in the areas of organization science, software engineering, and management information systems. More specifically, system development success was modelled as a function of project complexity, system development modelling environment, user participation, project unit structure, resource availability, and the level of iterative nature of development methodology. Based on the model developed from the information processing theory of project unit design in organization science. appropriate quality metrics for each variable in the proposed model are matched. In this way, a framework of relevant systems development and success quality metrics for controlling systems development processes and ensuing success is proposed. The causal relationships among the constructs in the proposed model are proposed as future empirical research for academicians and as managerial tools for quality managers. The framework and propositions help quality manager to select more parsimonious quality metrics for controlling information systems development processes and project success in an integrated way. Also this model can be utilized for evaluating software quality assurance programmes, which are developed and marketed by many vendors.
Background and objective: A great deal of previous research has highlighted the value of educational and cultural facilities embedded in housing prices, by taking a large spatial area as the focus, such as the city or district level. However, few studies have investigated the extent to which educational and cultural facilities influence the formation of housing prices from an accessibility perspective. This study aims to identify the value of educational and cultural facilities embedded in the housing prices in Seoul Metropolitan City with a focus on the concept of the residents' neighbourhood and accessibility. Methods: To this end, this research used a spatial regression model with educational and cultural facilities as the independent variables and housing prices as the dependent variable. The model assessed the accessibility of cultural and educational facilities by considering geographic effects. Results: The findings are as follows. First, the spatial error model was found to be the best fit for multi-unit housing, while the spatial lag model was more appropriate for single-unit housing and apartments. Second, private educational facilities and art museums had positive effects on single- and multi-unit housing prices, while historical sites had a negative effect. Finally, private educational facilities positively influenced apartment prices, whereas public libraries and urban park areas had a negative effect. Conclusion: These findings indicate that the accessibility of educational and cultural facilities reflects residents' preferences and needs, which will ultimately influence housing prices.
Synthetic unit hydrograph equations for rainfall run-off characteristics analysis and estimation of design flood have long and quite frequently been presented, the Snyder and SCS synthetic unit hydrograph. The major inputs to the Snyder and SCS synthetic unit hydrograph are lag time and peak coefficient. In this study, the methods for estimating lag time and peak coefficient for small watersheds proposed by Zhao and McEnroe(1999) were applied to the Kum river basin in Korea. We investigated lag times of relatively small watersheds in the Kum river basin in Korea. For this investigation the recent rainfall and stream flow data for 10 relatively small watersheds with drainage areas ranging from 134 to 902 square kilometers were gathered and used. 250 flood flow events were identified along the way, and the lag time for the flood events was determined by using the rainfall and stream flow data. Lag time is closely related with the basin characteristics of a given drainage area such as channel length, channel slope, and drainage area. A regression analysis was conducted to relate lag time to the watershed characteristics. The resulting regression model is as shown below: ※ see full text (equations) In the model, Tlag is the lag time in hours, Lc is the length of the main river in kilometers and Se is the equivalent channel slope of the main channel. The coefficient of determinations (r$^2$)expressed in the regression equation is 0.846. The peak coefficient is not correlated significantly with any of the watershed characteristics. We recommend a peak coefficient of 0.60 as input to the Snyder unit-hydrograph model for the ungauged Kum river watersheds
