National Union Catalog presupposes an information infrastructure which permits users to identify and locate materials of all the domestic libraries and to share materials among libraries. Recently, there have been developed national union catalog projects in many countries using Z39.50 protocol implementation. In Korea, multi-union catalogs based on the types of libraries, i.e., public, academic, and special libraries, have been constructed separately. The virtual national union catalog which is a decentralized electronically accessible catalog unified by linking the databases of several institutions using Z39.50 is preferable to a union catalog implemented by a single centralized database. In this paper, hybrid union catalog is suggested with mixtures of centralized union catalogs and Z39.50-based distributed search systems for the development of a national union catalog. It is also suggested that the roles of a national library and centers for union catalog, and relationships between two types of institution for making sound ground for implementing the virtual Korean union catalog.

Led by KIEP, this project to establish an Online Union Catalog System on Northeast Asia is the first such attempt to create a collaboration between social science libraries in Korea. This Online Union Catalog System is seen as a problem solving mechanism, as it helps to maximize efficiency in utilizing labor, finance, and data, by sharing library resources. This study focuses on the process of converting databases in a non-MARC format to a MARC format.

This study intends to evaluate the relationships between DLS union catalog and curricula and to suggest methods for its quality control. Comprehensiveness, specificity, currentness, and location of copies were selected for evaluation criteria. And this criteria were practiced to evaluate the relationships its indicators and library-based learning topics of social subjects in Seoul DLS. The results of analyses the DLS union catalog serves users with book-based learning information and lacks specificity to evaluate quality of learning materials. Especially the DLS don't satisfy the learning community with on-line contents. Accordingly it is essential to appoint teacher librarians understanding curricula and instructional values of the catalog for its quality control.

This article proposed a new online union catalog of children's material owned by children's libraries and public libraries in Korea. In order to meet users' information needs about children's material the existing access points in the online catalogs should be expanded including such information as children's age, type of publication, genre, subject, theme, book review, awarded books, and location. Since location information about a particular material is essential to users, a national online union catalog of children's material should be constructed.

This study propose the union cataloging based on wiki cataloging method which guarantee the quality of imported bibliographic data by outsourcing. Wiki cataloging means to improves a quality of union catalog used the cooperation of librarians who have the knowledge and experience to the cataloging. The methods are 1) policy of wiki cataloging 2) development of wiki systems 3) establishment of wiki cataloging rule based on advanced librarian cooperation. Especially, advanced librarian take charge of an 245, 260, 300 fields as basic bibliographical elements, general librarians participate expanded fields.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the data of $\ulcorner$Union Catalog of Foreign Journals$\lrcorner$ Database, which has been revised and updated in 1995. The database includes 13,449 titles of foreign journals in scienc and technology which is a collection of 253 libraries in Korea. The items of analysis are nation, language, frequency, subject of each title, and also collection overlap, etc.

The purpose of this study is to discuss the theoretical and practical strategies for the quality management of a union database built in a distributed system. To the end, this study introduces the quality control methods employed for the OCLC union catalog, which has been built in a distributed system and also known as the most typical union DB. The main discussion is about the quality issue of KORDIC's SATURN DB, the most typical union DB in South Korea. The final recommendation includes the management strategies and practical guidelines for the efficient quality control of a union DB built in a distributed system.

The purpose of this study is to build a model of inter-library cooperation's network in the information of library materials. Results of this study are 1. The YTational Assembly Library and the Central National I, ibrar:; should be unified. 2. The unified organization should be organized its cooperative quarter for itself (in the Central National Library). .And every library should he organized his quarter and personnel for the inter-library cooperation. 3. The cooperatior, organization in the re~ion should organized by the Regional Central Public Library. 4. In case of the Central National Library, financial problems required of the performance in the inter-library cooperation should he charged equally among the Central National Library, the library belong to the reader and the reader. In case of the regional Central Public Library, it should be charged equally arnozlg the regional Central Public Library, the library belon-g' to the reader and the reader. 5. The Regional Central Public Library in the seat of provincial government should be managed the cooperation's work of the individual library, and upward the unified Central Xarional Library should generalize. 6. The purchase of materials should be done by the character of the each library 1r:ith the assignment of the each subject should be decided in the meeting of the each library personne!. -2nd the budget for purchasing per the year should be decided on the minimum by the circumstances of the each library regionally. 7. The unified Regional Central Public Library in the seat of provincial government should be charged of the Union Catalog's expense regionally, and the Central National Library should be charged of that National Union Catalog's expense to cumulative the Fegional Union Catalog within a definite period of time. 8. Books without presentation of a specimen copy to the unified Central National Library should be purchased, and r.cr 'oe included to the National Union Catalog. 9. The cooperation of the each library should be decided on the law, and considered the character of the each region.

A Serials Union Catalog is an essential Bibliographic Control tool for integrated and shared the serials information which is scattered to the domestic libraries. It provides reliable informations about serials to user through creating optimized catalogs and holding informations. It is important of the consistency of the bibliographic record and the record's duplication ratio is an important criterion about Database Quality Assessment. This paper checks bibliographic data elements and proposes the duplicate detection process to improve union catalog quality for minimizing duplicate detection.

This study investigated secondary materials of children and young adults materials produced by domestic and foreign countries. In order to do that, characteristics and present states of bibliographies, indexes, union catalogs, major journals were examined while bibliography, index and catalog were defined. This study results showed that there were no bibliography and index for children and young adults materials but only recommended book catalogs and award book catalogs were produced in Korea. There were however many various second materials in foreign countries.
