축대칭 단조 공정도의 자동 도면출력기술 연구 (A Study on the Automated Computer-Aided Drafting Technique for Drawing Process Pictures of Axisymmetric Forgings)

  • The automated computer-aided drafting technique is attempted for drawing process pictures of axisymmetric solid forgings which are mainly used in automobile industry. For this study basic concepts to draw the shape of an element are described and applied to the 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional modeling of forged parts. 2-dimensional display of process pictures is developed by using AutoLISP language in AutoCAD software of a drafting technique and 3-dimensional view of process pictures is based on the UG/open API and UG/open GRIP languages of Unigraphics software. Testing the developed program to forging of bolts and ballstuds, it was shown to give good results to be applicable in forging industry.

솔리드 모델러를 기반으로 한 사출 금형용 전극 형상의 모델링 (Geometric Modeling of Electrodes for Injection Mold based on a Solid Modeler)

  • Electrical discharge machining(EDM) is an important process of machining the injection mold. This paper includes efficient design processes of electrodes for EDM. Based on the solid modeler, electrodes can be created by boolean and offset operations with core/cavity models. The built-in offset operations of the solid modeler may occur unexpected results due to the limitations of the solid modeler. We proposed the multi-step and moving-face offset processes in order to apply the EDM clearances. The proposed design processes are implemented with Unigraphics Vl5 API functions and C language and tested on Windows NT 4.0.

사출금형 몰드베이스와 몰드 금형 부품의 3차원 CAD라이브러리 구축에 관한 연구 (A Study on Implementation of 3D CAD Library for Injection Mold Base and Mold Components)

  • Mold base design is one of the most critical steps in production of plastic parts. This paper presents an efficient method for generating a 3D CAD library for injection mold base and mold components. In this paper, a new description language (DL)formats are proposed. These DL formats can represent the geometric feature, the variable dimensions and the assembly structures of mold base and its components. And the processes of adding the mold components and creating the mold assemblies can be performed very easily and efficiently by using DL scripts. Proposed method has been tested by implementation of 3D library with DL scripts and DL-interpreter with C language. The DL and interpreter are independent of CAD system. They were applied to the automatic mold base designing system which works on Unigraphics V15. The system is developed with UG API function under Windows-NT environment.

  • Many researches on the prediction of cutting forces of ball-end mil is have been achieved since before several decades ago. These kinds of researches have been concentrated on the study on how to make the prediction equations for the cutting forces based on 2-D cutting experimentation. The results of them were really good and impressive. But it's not proper to practical uses for industrial fields, because if sculptured surface were to be machined, then it would be very difficult to understand the complicated kinematical interaction between the sculptured surface and the flutes of a ball-end mill. So, we propose the method for solving these kind of problems using existed commercial CAD/CAM software; Unigraphics. Furthermore, the modification of tool path which is done off line is offered to increase the precision of cutting.

  • This paper introduces the development of design capabilities for air cylinders and jig bases in a three-dimensional jig design system for automobile body assembly. We first built the standard part library for these parts, and then developed the dedicated 3D design capabilities based on the Unigraphics system. By using this 3-D jig design system, design can be performed more intuitively, and verification and simulation of design results can be done more easily as the 3-D design result can be used readily for virtual manufacturing simulation.

  • In this study on machine measuring system based on solid feature was developed. This system was applied with injection mold using 3 dimensional solid modeler for verification. Developed program include pre-processor, main processor, and post processor. In pre-processor there are functions which check intersection, simulate motion of probe and calculate measuring time. Main processor generates measuring path and output NC code in Unigraphics. In post-processor functions that include evaluation of undercut or overcut and display of measuring procedure are offered. In addition analysis module for quality control of measured data on manufactured product was developed with geometric and dimensional tolerance concept. As the result developed program could get stability of system, precision of product, rapidity and cost down of manufacturing process compared with before measuring process.

  • The objective of design process modeling is a systematic support of rapid redesign process fur a modified input data. The design process modeling is realized by storing key parameters or geometric entities used in the intermediate design steps and reusing them for change of the designed parts or assemblies according to the modified input. In this paper, we adopted and implemented the design process modeling approach to our injection mold design system developed based on the Unigraphics system. It was proved that the productivity of mold redesign process is raised highly by introducing the design process modeling technique mold design system.

  • This paper introduces the development of a three-dimensional jig design system for automotive body welding assembly. Recently, three-dimensional CAD systems have been introduced in the jig design area, because they reduce errors in design process and the design result can be used readily for virtual manufacturing simulation. However, to facilitate three-dimensional jig design, it is essential to customize three-dimensional CAD system for this specific design area. To accomplish this object, we first standardized the parts and units in a jig assembly, and then built the standard part library. We also developed the dedicated 3D design capabilities of jig units and a jig base. By using this system, design can be performed more intuitively, and verification and simulation of design results can be done more easily. The proposed system has been implemented using the UG/Open API of the Unigraphics system.

  • It is difficult to access and share design data among heterogeneous CAD systems. Usually, different CAD systems exchange the design data using a neutral format such as IGES or STEP. A prototype CAD system which uses a geometric kernel and a commercial database management system has been implemented. The prototype system used the Open Cascade geometric kernel and the commercial object-oriented database ObjectStore. STEP provides the database schema. The database can be accessed from commercial CAD systems such as SolidWorks or Unigraphics. The data access module from a commercial CAD system is developed with the CAD system's native API, ObjectStore API functions, and ActiveX.

솔리드 모델을 이용한 판재 부품의 소재 정보 추출 (Material Information Extraction for Plate Parts Using Solid Models)

  • A method for extracting material information on sheet metal parts from an assembly model is proposed. In order to estimate the cost and order the required sheet metals, their outline profiles, thicknesses, quantities, and etc. are needed. The proposed method consists of two steps: First, sheet metal parts are selected through a feature recognition process from an assembly model. Then, some geometric information for the parts is calculated. In the later step a flattening process of bent parts is included. The method is implemented on a commercial CAD/CAM system Unigraphics with API routines and applied to steam turbine generators and large scale boilers.
