  • The aim of this research is a comprehensive review and evaluation of beam theories resting on elastic foundations that used to model mode-I delamination in multidirectional laminated composite by DCB specimen. A compliance based approach is used to calculate critical strain energy release rate (SERR). Two well-known beam theories, i.e. Euler-Bernoulli (EB) and Timoshenko beams (TB), on Winkler and Pasternak elastic foundations (WEF and PEF) are considered. In each case, a closed-form solution is presented for compliance versus crack length, effective material properties and geometrical dimensions. Effective flexural modulus ($E_{fx}$) and out-of-plane extensional stiffness ($E_z$) are used in all models instead of transversely isotropic assumption in composite laminates. Eventually, the analytical solutions are compared with experimental results available in the literature for unidirectional ($[0^{\circ}]_6$) and antisymmetric angle-ply ($[{\pm}30^{\circ}]_5$, and $[{\pm}45^{\circ}]_5$) lay-ups. TB on WEF is a simple model that predicts more accurate results for compliance and SERR in unidirectional laminates in comparison to other models. TB on PEF, in accordance with Williams (1989) assumptions, is too stiff for unidirectional DCB specimens, whereas in angle-ply DCB specimens it gives more reliable results. That it shows the effects of transverse shear deformation and root rotation on SERR value in composite DCB specimens.

  • Unidirectional magnetic anisotropy field ($H_an$) was investigated for thin films of $CdCr{2-2x}In_{2X}Se_4 (0$\leq$x$\leq$0.2). This anisotropy originates from the microscopic anisotropic Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction which arise from the spin-orbit scattering of the conduction electrons by the nonmagnetic impurities. This interaction maintains the remanent magnetization in the direction of the initial applied field. Then the single easy direction of the magnetization is parallel to the direction of the magnetic field. The anisotropy produced by field cooling is unidirectional I.e. the spins system deeps some memory of the cooling field direction. The chalcogenide spinel of$ CdCr_{2-2x}In){2X}Se_4$belongs to the class of the magnetic semiconductors. The magnetic disordered state is obtained when ferromagnetic structure is diluted by In. Then we have the mixed phase characterised by coexistence the magnetic long range ordering (IFN-infinite ferromagnetic network) and the spin glass order (Fc-finite clusters). The total magnetic anisotropy energy depends on the state of magnetic ordering. In our study we concentrated on the magnetic state with reentrant transition and spin glass state. The polycrystalline $ CdCr_{2-2x}In){2X}Se_4$ thin films were obtained by rf sputtering technique. We applied the ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) and M-H loop techniques for determining the temperature composition dependencies of Han. From the experimental data, we have found that Han decreases almost linearly when temperature is increased and in the low temperature is about three times bigger at SG state with comparison to the state with REE.

  • The emerging display technology has been replaced the previous position of the CRT with the LCD. The nature of hold type display such as LCD, however, causes many problems such as motion blur and motion judder. To resolve the problems, we used frame interpolation technique which improves the image quality by inserting new interpolated frames between existing frames. In this paper, we propose a novel frame interpolation technique that uses dominant MV and variance different value in each block. At first, the proposed algorithm performs unidirectional motion estimation using blocking matching algorithm. The new frame is generated by pixel average using compared block variance or by pixel motion compensation using dominant motion vector, whether the motion estimation find the target area or not. Several experiments with the proposed algorithm shows that the proposed algorithm has better image quality than the existing bidirectional frame interpolation algorithm at the rate of about 3dB PSNR and has low complexity comparing to the unidirectional frame interpolation technique.

  • One of the issues, which is dealed with in undirectional data transmission technology, is reducing the packet loss in TCP based data transfer. We can decrease the packet loss by using several well known error correction approaches. Although we utilize those previous approaches, the packet loss by both link errror and buffer overflow could be occurred. In this paper, we propose the RED(REliable Data diode). RED also uses the TCP proxy approach for supporting the TCP based data transfer which is similar with the existing unidirectional data transmission technologies. The RED transmission system could alleviate the packet loss caused by buffer overflow by exploiting the delaying transmission of TCP packets. Furthermore, in order to reduce the packett loss caused by link error in the unidirectional transmission link, the RED transmission system transmits one or more duplicated packets to the RED reception system by considering both the remaining resources and packet importance.

  • This paper proposes an efficient 1:N matching scheme for fingerprint identification. Usually, in the minutiae-based matching scheme, fingerprint matching score could be calculated by analyzing geometrical similarity between minutiae from two fingerprints. To calculate the geometrical similarity between them, it is necessary to fingerprint align a fingerprint data with the other one. The final matching score is obtained by bidirectional matching in the common fingerprint matching scheme, because the similarity between two fingerprints varies with the result of alignments. The reliability of matching score by the bidirectional matching is better than by the unidirectional matching, but it takes two times comparing with unidirectional matching. To solve the problem, this paper proposes an efficient 1:N fingerprint matching scheme based on the distribution of bidirectional matching scores for the large fingerprints database. The experimental result shows the usefulness of the proposed scheme.

  • In this report, we calculated the angular dependence of exchange bias ($H_{ex}$) by using single domain model in exchange coupled ferromagnetic (F)/antiferromagnetic (AF) bilayers, which results with AF thickness ($t_{AF}$) were used for the analysis of measured ones in NiFe/MnIr bilayers. Angular dependence of $H_{ex}$ calculated at $t_{AF}$ > $t_c$ showed typical unidirectional behaviors, however, calculated one at $0.5t_c$ < $t_{AF}$ < $t_c$ showed peculiar angular behaviors by fixed AF spins at specified angle near ${\theta}_H=90^{\circ}$. Angular dependence of $H_{ex}$ measured in NiFe/MnIr (20 nm) bilayers showed typical unidirectional behaviors. However, measured one in NiFe/MnIr (4 nm) bilayers showed mixed behaviors including both of unidirectional and peculiar angular behaviors, which was explained by the grain size distribution of polycrystalline MnIr.

  • Since three-dimensional (3D) images reconstructed in interval imaging technique are related to the resolution of elemental images, there has been a problem that ray information of elemental images increases largely in order to obtain high-resolution 3D images. In this paper, to overcome this problem, a new unidirectional integral imaging based on pinhole model is proposed. Proposed method provides a new type of unidirectional elemental images, which are simply obtained by magnifying single horizontal pixel line of each elemental image to the vertical size of lenslet using ray analysis based on pinhole model and used to display 3D images. In proposed method, reduction effect of the ray information of elemental images can be obtained by scarifying vortical parallax. Feasibility of the proposed scheme is experimentally demonstrated and its results are presented.

  • We measured the microwave permeability in the frequency range of 100 MHz$\sim$9 GHz in the exchange biased CoFe/MnIr films. The results were analyzed based on the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert theory. The initial permeability and ferromagnetic resonance frequency was tuned by controlling the CoFe thickness and unidirectional anisotropy. The tunable range of ferromagnetic resonance frequency was up to 20 GHz in the thin CoFe layer of 1.5 nm. The CoFe/MnIr films showed the high permeability and low loss properties in the microwave frequency range. Thus, this material could be applied to the microwave devices.

  • The catastrophic earthquake-induced failure of slopes concentrically distributed at near-fault area, which indicated the special features of near-fault ground motions, i.e. horizontal pulse-like motion and large vertical component, should have great effect on these geo-disasters. We performed shaking table tests to investigate the effect of both horizontal pulse-like motion and vertical component on dynamic response of slope. Both unidirectional (i.e., horizontal or vertical motions) and bidirectional (i.e., horizontal and vertical components) motions are applied to soft rock slope model, and acceleration at different locations is reordered. The results show that the horizontal acceleration amplification factor (AAF) increases with height. Moreover, the horizontal AAF under unidirectional horizontal pulse-like excitations is larger than that subject to ordinary motion. The vertical AAF does not show an elevation amplification effect. The seismic response of slope under different bidirectional excitations is also different: (1) The horizontal AAF is roughly constant under horizontal pulse-like excitations with and without vertical waves, but (2) the horizontal AAF under ordinary bidirectional ground motions is larger than that under unidirectional ordinary motion. Above phenomena indicate that vertical component has limited effect on seismic response when the horizontal component is pulse-like ground motion, but it can greatly enhance seismic response of slope under ordinary horizontal motion. Moreover, the vertical AAF is enhanced by horizontal motion in both horizontal pulse-like and ordinary motion. Thence, we should pay enough attention to vertical ground motion, especially its horizontal component is ordinary ground motion.

  • Background: Treating panfacial fractures (PFFs) can be extremely difficult even for experienced surgeons. Although several authors have attempted to systemize the surgical approach, performing surgery by applying a unidirectional sequence is much more difficult in practice. The purpose of this study was to review the literature on PFF surgery sequence and to understand how different surgical specialists-plastic reconstructive surgery (PRS) and oral maxillofacial surgery (OMS)-chose sequence and review PFFs fixation sequence in clinical cases. Methods: The PubMed and Google Scholar databases were scoured for publications published up until May 2020. Data extracted from the studies using standard templates included fracture part, fixation sequence, originating specialist, and the countries. Bibliographic details like author and year of publication were also extracted. Also, we reviewed the data for PFFs patients in the Trauma Registry System of Dankook University Hospital from 2011 to 2021. Results: In total, 240 articles were identified. This study comprised 22 studies after screening and full-text analysis. Sixteen studies (12 OMS specialists and 4 PRS specialists) used a "bottom-top" approach, whereas three studies (1 OMS specialist and 2 PRS specialists) used a "top-bottom" method. However, three studies (only OMS specialists) reported on both sequences. In our hospital, there were a total of 124 patients with PFF who were treated during 2011 to 2021; 64 (51.6%) were in upper-middle parts, 52 (41.9%) were in mid-lower parts, and eight (6.5%) were in three parts. Conclusion: Bottom-top sequencing was mainly used in OMS specialists, and top-bottom sequencing was used at a similar rate by two specialists in literature review. In our experience, however, it was hard to consistently implement unidirectional sequence suggested by a literature review. We realigned the reliable and stable buttresses first with tailoring individually for each patient, rather than proceeding in the unidirectional sequence like bottom-top or top-bottom.
