Sloshing Minimization Technique in Liquid Fuel Tank By the Use of Baffle (배플을 적용한 액체연료탱크 내의 슬로싱 억제 기법 연구)

  • The sloshing phenomenon sometimes happens to occur in a liquid fuel tank due to the unexpected and/or inevitable vibrating conditions and may result in severe effects on the structural stability. This study deals with the development of experimental techniques for the evaluation of sloshing behaviors in the liquid fuel tank and for the identification of natural frequencies and mode shapes by varying with various vibrating conditions. Measurements of the pressure and load acting on the side surface of vibrated liquid fuel tank are carried in order to identify the effects of sloshing phenomenon by using various types of baffles. The results show that the baffles can be used to minimize the sloshing phenomenon in liquid fuel tank effectively

The abundant presence of nonpolyadenylated SV40 late 19S spliced RNA in the nucleus of monkey cell (Poly A tail을 결핍한 Simian virus 40 spliced RNA의 세포내 분포)

  • We have examined the structures and cellular distributions of the SV40 late RNAs present in monkey cells at late times after infection. One particular RNA species, spliced at residue 373(373-RNA), was found to be as abundant as the major late 16S RNAs. This result was unexpected since previous reports showed that the molecular ratio of the 373-spliced 19S RNA to 16S RNA is approximately 0.1 among either cytoplasmic polyadenylated or polysomal viral RNAs. Both sedimentation and electrophoretic analysis indicated that the 373-RNA was approximately 16S to 19S in size. Therefore, it was not a splicing intermediate or the product of premature termination of transcription within the late leader region. Whereas most SV40 late 16S RNA is polyadenylated and located in the cytoplasm, the majority of 373-RNA was found to lack poly A, and be located in the nucleus.

Analysis of Initiating Event Frequencies for PSA Based on the Unexpected Reactor Trip Events in KOREA (국내 원자력발전소 불시정지 이력에 근거한 PSA 초기사건 빈도 분석)

  • PSA(Probabilistic Safety Assessment) methodology is widely used on assessing the safety of Nuclear Power Plants(NPPs) quantitatively in the domestic nuclear field. Initiating event frequencies are absolutely needed to conduct PSA, and they considerably affect PSA results. There is no domestic database where domestic trip event cases are reflected, so they are used to assess the safety of NPPs that are from the foreign database. In this paper, operating experience data from the Korean NPPs was collected and analyzed for the trip event cases, which are necessary to determine the initiating events and their frequencies. Korean NPPs have experienced five of 16 initiating events, which we LOFW. LOCV, LOCCW, LOOP and GTRN as a result of analyzing the trip event cases. Initiating frequencies based on the domestic trip event cases are analyzed, and they are similar to that from the foreign database.

  • This paper presents the cyclic seismic performance of slip-critically designed, high-strength bolted-beam splice in steel moment frame. Before the moment connection reaching its plastic strength, unexpected premature slippage occurred at the slip-critically designed beam splice during the test. The experimentally observed frictional coefficients were as low as about 50% to 60% of nominal (code) value. Nevertheless, the bearing type behavior mobilized after the slippage transferred the increasing cyclic loads successfully, i.e., the consequence of slippage into bearing was not catastrophic to the connection behavior. The test result seems to indicate that the traditional beam splice design basing upon (bolt-hole deducted) effective flange area criterion may not be sufficient in developing the plastic strength of moment connections under severe earthquake loading. New procedure for achieving slip-critical beam splice design is proposed based on capacity design concept.

  • The large-scale disasters occur to unexpected accidents such as natural disasters(earthquake, typhoon, tsunami, etc.), and human-caused accidents(fire, collapse, terror etc.). Rescue teams perform rescue activities to save many lives in large-scale disaster area. The main purpose of this study is to compose a optimal routing planning for rescue of multiple victims in disaster area. A realistic routing planning with rescue limit time which considers rehabilitation and reconstruction will be suggested in this study. A mathematical programming model and a hybrid genetic algorithm will be suggested to minimize the total spending time. By comparing the result, the suggested algorithm gives a better solution than existing algorithms.

  • In most case of previous research about vehicle control system, external error occurred by unexpected environmental situation was hardly considered. However, in this paper, to have more accurate position control of differential derive vehicle, we separate the error as an internal error and external error. To calculate the vehicle position in real time, we introduced the Dead-Reckoning algorithms and the simulation result show that the proposed internal and external error control system has fast and accurate position tracking with remarkable diminishment of orientation error. The results reported here can easily be extended to the control of similar type vehicle.

An Empirical Study on the Volume and Return in the Korean Stock Index Futures Markets by Trader Types (투자주체별 주가지수선물시장의 거래량과 수익률에 관한 연구)

  • This thesis examines the relationship between the trading volume and price return in the korean stock Index Futures until June 2005. First, the volume of KOSPI200 futures doesn't play a primary role with the clear explanation of return model. Second, an unexpected volume shocks are negatively associated with the return in case of the KOSPI200 futures, but it is a meaningless relation in the KOSDAQ50 futures. In the case of open interest, it's difficult to find any mean in a both futures. Third, The changes in the trading volumes by foreign investors are positively associated with the return and the volatility, but individuals and domestic commercial investors are negatively associated with the return. This empirical result seems that foreign investors are initiatively trading the korean stock index futures, individuals and domestic commercial investors follow the lead made by foreign investors.

  • This paper presents a study on characteristics and safety for human body in ELF electric and magnetic fields using statistical method. The magnetic fields from a power line can be computed given a knowledge of the currents, voltage and geometry of the line. In this paper, a statistical method for predicting the magnetic fields given the inherent indetermination of the currents is presented. But the electric field is calculated given a knowledge of the voltage and geometry of the line. The effect of unexpected fluctuations in current is modeled by the Monte Carlo simulation. The suggested method is applied to the 345kV and 765kV transmission line system, the result shows that the maximum electric and magnetic field intensity is 6.8627kV/m and 284mG in 345kV system, 2. 5590kV/m and 35mG in 765kV system, respectively.

A Thermal Decomposition Characteristics of Propellants for Safety Bag (에어백용 가스발생제의 열분해 특성)

  • Some of accidents are based on unstable chemical substances. These chemicals are easily decomposed or Ignited by heats or mechanical shocks like sodium azide. Sodium azide is commonly used as propellant for inflating automotive safety bags and the other chemical manufacturing purposes. The investigation of thermal hazard potential of sodium azide is very important because unexpected traffic accident can be occureed. The experiments were carried out by DSC, TG an ARC in air, oxygen, argon and nitrogen atmosphere. The decomposition temperatures were about $410^{\circ}C$~$420^{\circ}C$ by DSC and $330^{\circ}C$~$370^{\circ}C$ by ARC, this is very significant result for treatment of chemical. The heats of decomposition were about 81 kcal/mol in ai. and 10 kcal/mol in other atmosphere.

  • Recently, neural network techniques are widely used in adaptive and learning control schemes for production systems. However, in general it takes up a lot of time to learn in the case applied in control system. Furthermore, the physical meaning of neural networks constructed as a result is not obvious. And in practice since it is difficult for the PID gains suitably, lots of researches have been reported with respect of turning schemes of PID gains. A neural network-based PID control scheme is proposed, which extracts skills of human experts as PID gains. This controller is designed by using three-layered neural networks. The effectiveness of the proposed neural network-based PID control scheme is investigated through an application for a production control system. This control method can enable a plant to operate smoothy and obviously as the plant condition varies with any unexpected accidents.
