  • In this study it will be discussed how to solve the problem of discomfort from rolling motion on the small fishing boats. Up to now, the equipments of reducing rolling system can be examined by various case, but difficult to apply small vessel by function, space and costly establishment. A way of improving the feeling of getting on a boat through the equipped sail at stern edge of bulwark top was researched and developed. The author has tested the sailing performance of the experimental skiff boat, from the signals obtained by the inclinometer in irregular waves and compared with the results got in sail on and off mode operation for 10 minutes duration at the conditions of stop and underway. These data has been analyzed in the application statistical methods. Eventually we summarize the analyzed results obtained from the vessel while stationary and underway for two cases, the vessel with a sail and the vessel without a sail. The field test was done in Jeju outer harbor. The ratio of the motion responses at resonance for the sail with and without cases indicate that under given conditions the motion was reduced by the efficiency of diminution is 4.726%, 2.792% in the stopping and 11.663%, 3.282% in the underway and mean rolling periods are 2.158, 2.142, 2.421, 2.412sec. and 1.968, 1.963, 2.089, 2.051sec. respectively. Consequently the efficiency of diminution was higher when the ship is underway and rolling periods got longer in the equipped sail.

  • A number of studies for the improvement of the accuracy of the Loran C fix were carried out previously. But most studies were preformed when a ship was at anchorage, or in port. To investigate the accuracy of the Loran C fix when a ship was underway and in port, a series of observation was made on the route between Pusan and Cheju from Oct. 1988 to Oct. 1989. The obtained results are summerized as follows: 1. There is little difference in the accuracy of the Loran C fix by daytime and night, and the higher the mountain nearby ship, the greater the error of ship's position. 2. When a ship is at anchorage and underway, and the accuracy of ship's position is almost not affected by course while underway. 3. In order to promote the accuracy of the fixed position, a navigator must correct the propagation velocity and the geodetic system simultaneously, but in this paper the authors find that a most accurate position can be obtained by converting the geodetic system only.

  • In order to deduce an objective evaluation method of motion seasickness incidence (MSI) by ship motions during underway in irregular waves and to present the fundamental data of passenger comfort on the yacht and the passenger ship according to the result, the MSI of the trainees by the questionnaires was analysed and compared with the rate of variation of salivary ${\alpha}$-amylase activity (VSAA) on the training ship "A-ra ho" of Jeju national university. Relationship between rate of variation (x) by salivary ${\alpha}$-amylase activity and motion seasickness incidence (y) was described by the equation, MSI(%) = 0.6073 x + 12.189 including the correlation coefficient ($R^2=0.9853$). The result obtained through the rate of variation of salivary ${\alpha}$-amylase activity which was the quantitative evaluation method for ship motions causing seasickness was most affected by z-vertical acceleration and occurred within the frequency range 0.1 to 0.3Hz centered on 0.2Hz, and the simulation result based on this finding showed the motion seasickness rate at approximately 4% lower than the rate obtained through the survey.

  • Cancer vaccine is an active immunotherapy to stimulate the immune system to mount a response against the tumor specific antigen. Working as a stimulant to the body's own immune system, cancer vaccines help the body recognize and destroy targeted cancers and may help to shrink advanced tumors. Research is currently underway to develop therapeutic cancer vaccines. It is also possible to develop prophylactic vaccines in the future. The whole cell approach to eradicate cancer has used whole cancer cells to make vaccine. In an early stage of this approach, whole cell lysate or a mixture of immunoadjuvant and inactivated cancer cells has been used. Improved vaccines are being developed that utilize cytokines or costimulatory molecules to mount an attack against cancer cells. In case of melanoma, these vaccines are expected to have a therapeutic effect of vaccine. Furthermore, it is attempting to treat stomach cancer, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, and prostate cancer. Other vaccines are being developing that are peptide vaccine, recombinant vaccine and dendritic cell vaccine. Out of them, reintroduction of antigen-specific dendritic cells into patient and DNA vaccine are mostly being conducted. Currently, research and development efforts are underway to develop therapeutic cancer vaccine such as DNA vaccine for the treatment of multiple forms of cancers.

  • In images, the edge is an important element to analyze characteristics of the image and has been used selectively at several applications. Even now, many researches to detect and take advantage of theses edges are underway and in initially to detect edges, methods using the relation of adjacent pixels are proposed. Characteristic of these methods is that the processing speed of the algorithms is fast, but the specific weighted values are applied to all the pixels regardless of the images equally. In recent years, the research of the edge detection algorithm to adapt according to the image has been actively underway, in order to complement the drawbacks of the existing methods. Therefore, in order to detect the edge excellent characteristics In this paper, we proposed algorithm using adaptive mask.

  • In a coastal area, all of the vessels are always exposed to the potential risk, taking into the maritime accident statistics account over the last decades. To manage vessels underway safety, the characteristics of ship movements in a fairway should be recognized by VTS system or VTS operators. The IMO has already mandated the shipboard carriage of AIS since 2004, as stated in SOLAS Chapter V Regulation 19. As a result, the static and dynamic information of AIS data has been collected for vessel traffic management in the coastal areas and used for VTS. This research proposes a simple algorithm of recognizing potentially risky ships by observing their trajectories on the fairway. The static and dynamic information of AIS data are collected and the curvature for the ship trajectory is surveyed. The proposed algorithm finds out the irregularity of ship movement. The algorithm effectively monitors the change of navigation pattern from the curvature analysis of ship trajectory. Our method improves VTS functions in an intelligent way by analyzing the navigation pattern of vessels underway.

  • Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) operates 2 solar radio observing facilities, e-CALLISTO (Earthwide network of Compound Astronomical Low-cost Low-frequency Instrument for Transportable Observatory) station and Korean Solar Radio Burst Locator (KSRBL). Although e-CALLISTO tracking system improvement.is underway, at least 6 new events were observed in this year. Software development for KSRBL is in progress. The antenna calibration software was updated and flux calibration software was developed. Also the automatic daily overview spectrum monitoring system is now operational. We found solutions to several problems including spurious data and FPGA board communication. However, a few minor unsolved hardware problems still persist. Meanwhile, at least 6 new events were observed by KSRBL in this year, and a comparative study with HXR is currently underway.

  • The most important point when we engage on waterway dredging work is supplying safe navigational passage to the vessels underway by narrowing dredge work area and removing submerged dangers. In order to meet this end it is neccessary to use auxiliary equipment for shifting actively and mooring and adopt automation of dredging work by integrating information on real time position, dredging depth, and work information. The danger with a spud control system in this study, by the way, is able to employed on continuous dredging work with the narrowest working area allowing wide and safe passages to vessels underway, by moving the dredger to the working zone with the spud controlled automatically. Furthermore, it has been improved definitely compared with the existing dredging proccess management system such that it shows the track of spud and working depth on the electronic navigation chart of window, together with the final outcome of dredging work. The test dredging work at the entrance of Busan North Port for system evaluation showed that actual working time available was twice of the one by the existing anchor system, and that it reduced 38% of time for preparation work and one man power.
