수중 음파 센서네트워크에 기존 네트워크 보안을 적용하기 위한 고려사항과 논쟁점 (Considerations and Issues for Applying the Existing Network Security to Underwater Acoustic Sensor Networks)

  • The security threat types in underwater communication networks environment are almost the same as the terrestrial, but the security of mechanisms the terrestrial RF-based networks environment can not be directly applied due to not only the limited resources of each node but also unsafe channel such as low propagation delay, high bit error rate etc. Nevertheless there has not been much research on the security of underwater acoustic communication networks. Therefore, in this paper analyzes the differences between the terrestrial communication networks and underwater acoustic communication networks, and identifies issues that are the starting points of underwater communication networks security research.

수중 센서 네트워크를 위한 저전력 수중 통신 모뎀 연구 (A Study on a Low Power Underwater Communication Modem for Implementation of Underwater Sensor Networks)

  • 최근 세계 각국에서 해양자원을 확보하고 해양환경 변화를 연구하기 위해 수중 센서 네트워크 관련 연구를 활발히 진행하고 있다. 현재 사용 중인 상용모뎀은 주로 특수목적용으로 장거리, 고가, 큰 소모전력, 대형 등의 특징을 지녀수중 센서 네트워크 구현에는 적합하지 않다. 이 논문에서는 비동기식 BFSK (Binary Frequency Shift Keying) 변조방식에 따른 간단한 수신회로, 초 저전력의 MCU (Micro Control Unit), 비교적 적은 연산량과 간단한 구현으로 동기 및 수신성능을 높이는 직교부호를 사용하여 수중 센서 네트워크에 적합한 소형 저전력 수중통신 모뎀을 구현한다. 다중경로가 심한 수조 및 외해 양식장에서 성능평가를 수행하여 $10^{-4}$ 미만의 비트오류율로 통신하는 것을 보인다.

  • 수중 음파 센서 네트워크는 수종환경에서 재해방지, 환경 감시 시스템 등의 용도로 이용될 수 있다. 그러나 수중환경에서는 지상과는 다른 긴 전파 지연과 낮은 전송 속도, 제한된 대역폭파 같은 특성을 고려하여야 한다. 본 논문은 수중 음파 센서 네트워크에서 우선순위에 따라 슬롯이 각 노드에 맞게 할당되는 비경쟁방식의 슬롯 예약 구간을 통해 충돌 및 에너지 손실을 최소화하는 Priority Reservation MAC(PR-MAC) 프로토콜을 제안한다. 또한 성능을 평가하기 위해 수학적 분석 모델을 제시하고 그 결과로 충돌 확률, 충돌에 의한 에너지 소모량, 처리율, 채널 효율을 기존 프로토콜과 비교 평가하여 제안된 프로토콜의 우수성을 보인다.

A Localization Algorithm for Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks Based on Ranging Correction and Inertial Coordination

  • Node localization is the basic task of underwater wireless sensor networks (UWSNs). Most of the existing underwater localization methods rely on ranging accuracy. Due to the special environment conditions in the ocean, beacon nodes are difficult to deploy accurately. The narrow bandwidth and high delay of the underwater acoustic communication channel lead to large errors. In order to reduce the ranging error and improve the positioning accuracy, we propose a localization algorithm based on ranging correction and inertial coordination. The algorithm can be divided into two parts, Range Correction based Localization algorithm (RCL) and Inertial Coordination based Localization algorithm (ICL). RCL uses the geometric relationship between the node positions to correct the ranging error and obtain the exact node position. However, when the unknown node deviates from the deployment area with the movement of the water flow, it cannot communicate with enough beacon nodes in a certain period of time. In this case, the node uses ICL algorithm to combine position data with motion information of neighbor nodes to update its position. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm greatly improves the positioning accuracy of unknown nodes compared with the existing localization methods.

  • 본 논문에서는 수중 센서 네트워크를 위한 경쟁 기반 매체 접근 제어 (MAC) 프로토콜들의 성능을 분석한다. 다양한 수중 네트워크 환경을 모사한 Qualnet 기반의 수중 네트워크 시뮬레이터를 이용하여, ALOHA, CSMA, CSMA-RTS-CTS 및 CSMA-RTS-CTS-ACK 프로토콜 등의 성능을 수신 패킷의 수와 종단간 전송 시간 측면에서 비교한다. 시뮬레이션 결과를 이용하여, 향후 수중 네트워크 개발 시 경쟁 기반 MAC 프로토콜을 선택하는데 참고할 수 있는 지표를 제시한다.

  • Underwater wireless sensor networks (UWSNs) are similar to the terrestrial sensor networks. Nevertheless, there are different characteristics among them such as low battery power, limited bandwidth and high variable propagation delay. One of the common major problems in UWSNs is determining an efficient and reliable routing between the source node and the destination node. Therefore, researchers tend to design efficient protocols with consideration of the different characteristics of underwater communication. Furthermore, many routing protocols have been proposed and these protocols may be classified as location-based and location-free routing protocols. Pressure-based routing protocols are a subcategory of the location-free routing protocols. This paper focuses on reviewing the pressure-based routing protocols that may further be classified into non-void avoidance protocols and void avoidance protocols. Moreover, non-void avoidance protocols have been classified into single factor based and multi factor based routing protocols. Finally, this paper provides a comparison between these protocols based on their features, performance and simulation parameters and the paper concludes with some future works on which further study can be conducted.

  • Currently, the Underwater Sensor Networks (UWSNs) is mainly an interesting area due to its ability to provide a technology to gather many valuable data from underwater environment such as tsunami monitoring sensor, military tactical application, environmental monitoring and many more. However, UWSNs is suffering from limited energy, high packet loss and the use of acoustic communication. In UWSNs most of the energy consumption is used during the forwarding of packet data from the source to the destination. Therefore, many researchers are eager to design energy efficient routing protocol to minimize energy consumption in UWSNs. As the opportunistic routing (OR) is the most promising method to be used in UWSNs, this paper focuses on the existing proposed energy efficient OR protocol in UWSNs. This paper reviews the existing proposed energy efficient OR protocol, classifying them into 3 categories namely sender-side-based, receiver-side-based and hybrid. Furthermore each of the protocols is reviewed in detail, and its advantages and disadvantages are discussed. Finally, we discuss potential future work research directions in UWSNs, especially for energy efficient OR protocol design.

수중 센서 네트워크에서 최소 비용 위치 결정 문제를 위한 타부 서치 알고리즘 (A Tabu Search Algorithm for Minimum Cost Localization Problem in Underwater Sensor Networks)

  • 일반적으로 수중 센서 네트워크에서 모든 센서 노드는 위치가 결정된 앵커 노드를 이용하여 자신의 위치를 결정한다. 본 논문에서는 수중 센서 네트워크에서 모든 센서 노드의 위치를 결정하기 위해 최소의 수를 가진 앵커 노드를 결정하기 위한 타부 서치 알고리즘을 제안한다. 네트워크에서 센서 노드의 수가 증가함에 따라 앵커 노드의 수를 결정하는 계산량은 급격히 늘어나게 된다. 본 논문에서는 밀집도가 높은 네트워크에서 적정한 시간 내에 최소의 앵커 노드수를 결정하는 타부 서치 알고리즘을 제안하며, 효율적인 검색을 위해 타부 서치 알고리즘의 효과적인 이웃해 생성 동작을 제안한다. 제안된 알고리즘은 최소 앵커 노드의 수와 실행시간 관점에서 성능을 평가하며, 평가 결과에서 제안된 알고리즘이 기존의 알고리즘에 비해 성능이 5-10% 우수함을 보인다.

Hop-by-Hop Dynamic Addressing Based Routing Protocol for Monitoring of long range Underwater Pipeline

  • In Underwater Linear Sensor Networks (UW-LSN) routing process, nodes without proper address make it difficult to determine relative sensor details specially the position of the node. In addition, it effects to determine the exact leakage position with minimized delay for long range underwater pipeline monitoring. Several studies have been made to overcome the mentioned issues. However, little attention has been given to minimize communication delay using dynamic addressing schemes. This paper presents the novel solution called Hop-by-Hop Dynamic Addressing based Routing Protocol for Pipeline Monitoring (H2-DARP-PM) to deal with nodes addressing and communication delay. H2-DARP-PM assigns a dynamic hop address to every participating node in an efficient manner. Dynamic addressing mechanism employed by H2-DARP-PM differentiates the heterogeneous types of sensor nodes thereby helping to control the traffic flows between the nodes. The proposed dynamic addressing mechanism provides support in the selection of an appropriate next hop neighbour. Simulation results and analytical model illustrate that H2-DARP-PM addressing support distribution of topology into different ranges of heterogeneous sensors and sinks to mitigate the higher delay issue. One of the distinguishing characteristics of H2-DARP-PM has the capability to operate with a fewer number of sensor nodes deployed for long-range underwater pipeline monitoring.

해양설비용 센서의 다중 신호처리 회로 개발 및 성능 분석 (The Development and Performance Analysis of Multiple Signal Processing Circuit for Marine Installation Sensor)

  • This paper proposes the new multiple signal processing monitoring sensor for the marine installation. The recent marine technology is focused on underwater sensors and underwater sensor networks in order to measure, monitor, surveillance of and control of underwater environments. For these marine applications to be available, however, the provision of precise location information using monitoring sensor is essential. In this paper, the multiple signal processing circuit for obtaining the precise location information of marine installation sensor is developed and analyzed. The performance characteristics for obtaining the location information of marine installation sensor is analyzed. The theoretical and experimental studies have been carried out. The presented results from the above investigation show considerably excellent performance for the monitoring for the marine installation.
