This paper describes the development and field experiments of Manta-type Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV). Various simulations for Manta UUV are performed by using the nonlinear 6-DOF motion of equations. Through this simulation we verified the motion performances of Manta UUV. To acquire the blueprint of Manta UUV, it was designed with the simulation results. The Manta UUV uses a Doppler Velocity Log (DVL), gyrocompass, GPS, pressure sensor and other minor sensors, applied to measure the motion, position and path of Manta UUV. For its propulsion and changing a direction in the underwater, one vertical fin and four horizontal fins are installed at the hull of UUV. The Manta UUV system was verified with motion and autonomous navigation test at field.

Air gun shock systems are commonly used as alternative explosion energy sources for underwater explosion (UNDEX) shock tests owing to their low cost and environmental impact. The airbag inflator of automotive airbag systems is also very useful to generate extremely rapid underwater gas release in labscale tests. To overcome the restrictions on the very small computational time step owing to the very fine fluid mesh around the nozzle hole in the explicit integration algorithm, and also the absence of a commercial solver and software for gas UNDEX of airbag inflator, an idealized airbag inflator and fluid mesh modeling technique was developed using nozzle holes of relatively large size and several small TNT charges instead of gas inside the airbag inflator. The objective of this study is to validate the results of an UNDEX response analysis of one and two idealized airbag inflators by comparison with the results of shock tests in a small water tank. This comparison was performed using the multi-material Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian formulation and fluid-structure interaction algorithm. The number, size, vertical distance from the nozzle outlet, detonation velocity, and lighting times of small TNT charges were determined. Through mesh size convergence tests, the UNDEX response analysis and idealized airbag inflator modeling were validated.

Lost fishing gears become a major cause of marine pollution, and many policy and technical efforts have been conducted for that. For efficient retrieving lost fishing gears in underwater, It is important to know the current position. Using GPS in the sub-sea environment is impossible and localization requires the use of special systems, and mobility due to water currents for underwater localization also has to be considered. In this paper, described with respect to the system for a self-generated location informations without using an external signal, such as a GPS and Sonar and storing them. Using the characteristics of the geomagnetic and INS principle, proposed informations and a way for estimating self position during movement. Embedded based system suggested and implemented in this study is tested for validating it's functionality.

Due to technological advances, the manufacturing of small and low cost of sensors becomes technically and economically feasible. In recent years, an increasing interest in using Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) in various applications, including large scale environment monitoring, battle field surveillance, security management and location tracking. In these applications, hundreds of sensor nodes are left to be unattended to report monitored data to users. Since sensor nodes are placed randomly and sometimes are deployed in underwater. It is impossible to replace batteries often when batteries run out. Therefore, reducing energy consumption is the most important design consideration for sensor networks.
With the massive increase in bandwidth for wireless communications, free space optical (FSO) communication has attracted significant interest owing to its outstanding strengths over conventional radio frequency wireless communication such as a wide bandwidth, unlicensed spectrum, low power consumption, small size, electromagnetic interference immunity, long-range propagation, and improved security. In recent years, FSO technology has been studied intensively for use in terrestrial and underwater autonomous and unmanned mobile systems, a rapidly growing application area, including robots, drones, unmanned aerial vehicles, autonomous vehicles, unmanned trains, and unmanned submarines. In this report, we review the recent trends and key technologies for the mobile FSO system, and introduce our drone-based mobile FSO system, which is currently under development.

The researches on the development of composite material underwater vehicle propeller have been actively attempted for the reduction of radiation noise with outstanding damping effects. Composite material propellers have almost been designed and produced by the foreign experts, and it is difficult to obtain the related informations about their flow, vibration, material characteristics because they are treated as the secrets with close relationship to the military technology, especially in the case of underwater vehicles. For the security of domestic manufacture of composite material propeller and the comparison and examination of its performance and radiation noise characteristics with those of German CONTUR composite material propeller, two propellers were self-produced according to the fiber weaving and array using compressible molding process and their self performances and radiation noise characteristics were measured. The mean fluctuations of blade tip of self-produced composite material propeller were increased and the radiation noises in the low frequency band were reduced compared to those of CONTUR, which could be estimated as the change of material characteristics and also be thought to be used for the future research informations.
This study proposes a new convergence weapon system that combines the covert placement and detection abilities of a self-propelled mobile mine with the rapid tracking and attack abilities of supercavitating rocket torpedoes. This innovative system has been designed to counter North Korea's new underwater weapon, 'Haeil'. The concept behind this convergence weapon system is to maximize the strengths and minimize the weaknesses of each weapon type. Self-propelled mobile mines, typically placed discreetly on the seabed or in the water, are designed to explode when a vessel or submarine passes near them. They are generally used to defend or control specific areas, like traditional sea mines, and can effectively limit enemy movement and guide them in a desired direction. The advantage that self-propelled mines have over traditional sea mines is their ability to move independently, ensuring the survivability of the platform responsible for placing the sea mines. This allows the mines to be discreetly placed even deeper into enemy lines, significantly reducing the time and cost of mine placement while ensuring the safety of the deployed platforms. However, to cause substantial damage to a target, the mine needs to detonate when the target is very close - typically within a few yards. This makes the timing of the explosion crucial. On the other hand, supercavitating rocket torpedoes are capable of traveling at groundbreaking speeds, many times faster than conventional torpedoes. This rapid movement leaves little room for the target to evade, a significant advantage. However, this comes with notable drawbacks - short range, high noise levels, and guidance issues. The high noise levels and short range is a serious disadvantage that can expose the platform that launched the torpedo. This research proposes the use of a convergence weapon system that leverages the strengths of both weapons while compensating for their weaknesses. This strategy can overcome the limitations of traditional underwater kill-chains, offering swift and precise responses. By adapting the weapon acquisition criteria from the Defense force development Service Order, the effectiveness of the proposed system was independently analyzed and proven in terms of underwater defense sustainability, survivability, and cost-efficiency. Furthermore, the utility of this system was demonstrated through simulated scenarios, revealing its potential to play a critical role in future underwater kill-chain scenarios. However, realizing this system presents significant technical challenges and requires further research.

In order to minimize damage to oil spill accidents in the ocean, it is essential to collect a spilled area as soon as possible. Thus satellite-based remote sensing is a powerful source to detect oil spills in the ocean. With the recent rapid increase in the number of available satellites, it has become possible to generate a status report of marine oil spills soon after the accident. In this study, the oil spill area was calculated using various satellite images for the Symphony oil spill accident that occurred off the coast of Qingdao Port, China, on April 27, 2021. In particular, improving the accuracy of oil spill area determination was applied using high-resolution commercial satellite images with a spatial resolution of 2m. Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2, LANDSAT-8, GEO-KOMPSAT-2B (GOCI-II) and Skysat satellite images were collected from April 27 to May 13, but five images were available considering the weather conditions. The spilled oil had spread northeastward, bound for coastal region of China. This trend was confirmed in the Skysat image and also similar to the movement prediction of oil particles from the accident location. From this result, the look-alike patch observed in the north area from the Sentinel-1A (2021.05.01) image was discriminated as a false alarm. Through the survey period, the spilled oil area tends to increase linearly after the accident. This study showed that high-resolution optical satellites can be used to calculate more accurately the distribution area of spilled oil and contribute to establishing efficient response strategies for oil spill accidents.
Sonobuoy is a disposable device that collects underwater acoustic information and is designed to transmit signals collected in a particular area to nearby aircraft or ships and sink to the seabed upon completion of its mission. In a conventional sonobouy signal transmission and reception system, collected signals are modulated and transmitted using techniques such as frequency division modulation or Gaussian frequency shift keying, and received and demodulated by an aircraft or a ship. However, this method has the disadvantage of the large amount of information to be transmitted and low security due to relatively simple modulation and demodulation methods. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a method that uses an autoencoder to encode a transmission signal into a low-dimensional latent vector to transmit the latent vector to an aircraft or ship and decode the received latent vector to improve signal security and to reduce the amount of transmission information by approximately a factor of a hundred compared to the conventional method. As a result of confirming the sample spectrogram reconstructed by the proposed method through simulation, it was confirmed that the original signal could be restored from a low-dimensional latent vector.
