  • The purpose of this study is to analyze trends in the prevalence of dental caries and demand for dental caries treatment among children under 14 years old using Health Insurance Review and Assessment data. The analysis was conducted using treatment records from a random sample of approximately 1 million pediatric patients from a population that included all children and adolescents for each year from 2011 to 2020. In this study, the number of children diagnosed with K02 dental caries and the number of children receiving dental caries treatment across all ages have increased. However, the number of children aged 10 to 14 who received pulp treatment or extraction has decreased. In the National Survey of Children's Oral Health, the decay-missing-filled teeth index for 5- and 12-year-olds has stagnated or increased slightly, but the percentage of the population with active dental caries has decreased. Accessibility and local environments for dental caries treatment have generally improved compared to the past, but preventive dental care has stagnated over the past decade. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the effectiveness of oral health programs implemented in Korea to promote and prevent dental caries among children.

  • The Lombard effect is an involuntary response to speakers' experiences in the presence of noise during voice communication. This study aimed to investigate the Lombard effect by comparing the acoustic features of children and adults under different listening conditions. Twelve male children (5-9 years old) and 12 young adult men (24-35 years old) were recruited to produce speech under three different listening conditions (quiet, noise-55 dB, noise-70 dB). Acoustic analyses were then carried out to characterize their acoustic features, such as F0, intensity, duration, and vowel space area, under the three listening conditions. A Lombard effect was observed in the intensity and duration for children and adults who participated in this study under adverse listening conditions. However, we did not observe a Lombard effect in the F0 and vowel space areas of either group. These findings suggest that children can adjust their speech production in challenging listening conditions as much as adults.

Methods: Medical records were evaluated, and 100 children, who had been taking PEG 4000 for more than 6 months, and who had been under clinical and biochemical monitoring, were enrolled. Ages; $6.11{\pm}3.12$ years, Duration of therapy; $16.93{\pm}7.02$ months, dose of PEG 4000; $0.72{\pm}0.21g/kg/d$. Results: None of the children complained of clinical adverse effect. The first biochemical test was performed at 8.05 months after beginning of PEG 4000. Serum phosphate (SP) value was high in 10 children, and leucopenia was noted in one child. The second test was performed in 44 children at 7.57 months after the first test. The SP value was high in four children, including the three children whose initial SP value was high and one new child. Six out of 10 children with high initial SP value became normal and one was lost. Hypernatremia was noted in one child. The third test was done in 15 children at 7.5 months after the second test. The SP value of the new child from the second test was high, but became normal after finishing treatment. Two out of 3 children with high SP value at the second test became normal and one was lost. The fourth test was done in 2 children few months after the third test. All of the results were normal. There were no relation between duration of therapy and hyperphosphatemia, or between dose of PEG 4000 and hyperphosphatemia. Conclusions: PEG 4000 is safe for long-term therapy in children with constipation with respect to biochemical parameters.

  • Nobody denies that to detect a view of children agreeable to us is one of our tasks. Studying the Early Buddhist Scriptures, for the purpose of finding and the view of children entered the priesthood of Buddhism rooted deeply in our culture, I can find out the following conclusions. 1. Buddha regards that adults and children are same in that both of them are equally able to attain Nirvana, and he recognizes the differences between adults and children appeared in body and mind in the process of spiritual discipline. 2. He consideres that parent's worldly love is needed to the children priests below the age of 12. 3. He called priests over the age of 12 to 20 children priests, and he said that they have to be under a certain guard in particular, because unlike adults they have a lot of problem in the discipline process. 4. In the view of human being's growth and development, it is assumed that the group of children priests played a part as a group of spiritual discipline for youths. 5. It's regarded that the group of children priests also had function as a group of child welfare of today. 6. In other side, we can see Buddha's strict view of education for children priests, that is, even though they were children they had to discipline themselves thoroughly according to the view of values of Buddhism as far as they are priests who entered the temple. 7. Even if they are children, only minimal living things are permitted to them, and an ascetic life is required to them. In modern sense, how can such views be accepted and used? I think, this is our new task deeply looked into again in the standpoint of education of whole man rooted in religions psychology.
