  • Due to the recent improvement of living standard of residential buildings, the requirements of the thermal comfort and energy saving in heating system have been raised. The radiant floor heating system has been widely used as a residential heating method, which has been modernized to use hot water running into the tubes embedded in the floor structure. The uniform flow distribution is very important factor for a radiant floor heating system such as a blood vessel system in human body. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the operating characteristics to develop an optimal radiant floor heating system. In this study, numerical analyses were carried out, using a commercial CFD code, FLUENT, to obtain the velocity distribution under steady, three-dimensional, standard k-$\varepsilon$ model and no-slip condition. Results are graphically depicted with various parameters.

  • Numerical simulation is conducted to clarify the heat transfer and fluid flow characteristics of HVAC(Heating, Ventilating and Air-Conditioning) for double' deck train. The HVAC system is installed under the roof of carbody. In the lay-out of HVAC system, air duct must be installed to supply air to 1st and 2nd floor respectively. The standard k-$\epsilon$ and LES models for turbulence and SIMPLE algorithm for pressure equation hased on finite volume method are used to solve the physic a] HVAC model. To assure convergence, QUICK scheme for momentum equation and the 2nd order upwind scheme for turbulent equations arc used. From the results of simulation, the temperature and velocity magnitude are also distributed uniformly in the interior of double-deck passenger car.

  • A groundwater source heat pump (GWHP) was developed in this study by adapting a borehole heat exchanger with closed-loop and open-loop systems in a new building. In the pilot test building, the air-conditioning on the second floor was designed to employ a closed-loop system and that on the third floor had an open-loop system. The GWHP design is based on the feasibility of groundwater resources at the installation site. For the hydrogeological survey of the study site, pumping and injection tests were conducted, and the feasibility of GWHP installation was evaluated based on the air-conditioning load demand of the building. The site was found to be satisfactory for the design capacity of the thermal load and water quality. In addition, the effect of groundwater movement on the performance of the closed-loop system was tested under three different operational scenarios of groundwater pumping. The performance of the system was sustainable with groundwater flow but declined without appropriate groundwater flow. From long-term observations of the operation, the aquifer temperature change was less than 2℃ at the observation well and 5℃ at the injection well with respect to the initial groundwater temperature. This pilot study is expected to be of guidance for developing GWHPs at fractured rock aquifers.

초고층 건축물의 수직 구획화에 따른 급기가압제연시스템 성능평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Smoke Control Performance Evaluation of High-rise Buildings under Smokeproof Enclosure Design Scenarios)

  • Regardless of the building design scenarios, evaluation of high-rise buildings required to have smoke-proof enclosures that are provided with a smoke management system. The goal of the smoke management system design is to make sure the pressure differentials at every story within the building fall within the allowable pressure range. If the minimum design pressure is not met, smoke may enter the stair. If the provided pressure is too great, it becomes difficult for occupants to open the doors, while attempting to egress. Ensuring that the pressure differential between the vestibule and the floor is within the prescribed range becomes challenging, due to natural effects on the building, such as the stack effect. In this research, smokeproof enclosure design scenarios were evaluated; and as a result, separation levels for compartmentation were deduced, in the balancing of pressurized-vestibule smoke control systems.

  • The behavior of whole system is affected by a minor change of system in the hydronic radiant floor heating system. Under partial load condition, the change of system resistance causes overflow of supply water. This unexpected effect is the cause of several problems in the heating system. In this study, we find some factors were validated with several computer simulations. After validation of this result, several conceptual solutions are evaluated to prevent overflow.

It has been recognized that the heating system using the latent heat storage materials are economically efficient and comfortable. For the comparison and analysis to the data of the existing experiment, a repetitive experiment makes sure the ability of Ondol panel.

  • In this study, a scaled model chamber was built to investigate ventilation characteristics of the Under floor Air-conditioning System. Experimental study was performed in model for cargo-oil pump room with inlet and outlet by visualization equipment with laser apparatus. Instant simultaneous velocity vectors at whole field were measured by 2-D PIV system(CACTUS'2000) which adopted two-frame grey-level cross correlation algorithm. The flow pattern reveals the large scale counterclockwise forced-vortex rotation from upside louver to lower scupper toward diagonal corner and also found small eddies at bottom layer

  • Numerical simulation is conducted to clarify the heat transfer and fluid flow characteristics of HVAC(Heating, Ventilating and Air-Conditioning) for Mugunghwa passenger car. The HVAC system is installed under the floor of carbody. This new HVAC system has a lot of merits in respect of the center of gravity of carbody, flow induced noise and reduction of condensation water etc. The standard k-epsilon turbulent model and SIMPLEC algorithm based on finite volume method are used to solve the physical HVAC model. To assure convergence, QUICK scheme for momentum equation and the first order upwind scheme for turbulent equations are used. From the results of simulation, the temperature and velocity magnitude are also distributed uniformly in the interior of car.

국내 기상조건하 주거용 건물 가스 보일러의 부분부하 특성과 에너지 사용량 분석 (Analysis of the Part Load Ratio Characteristics and Gas Energy Consumption of a Hot Water Boiler in a Residential Building under Korean Climatic Conditions)

  • Residential buildings account for a significant portion of the total building-energy usage in Korea, and a variety of research studies on the domestic boiler have therefore been carried out; however, most of these studies examined the boiler itself, whereby the part-load ratio characteristics and the corresponding gas-energy consumption patterns were not analyzed. In this study, the part-load ratio and operating characteristics of a domestic gas boiler were analyzed within a residential building equipped with a radiant floor-heating system; in addition, the energy consumption between condensing and conventional boilers was comparatively analyzed. Our results show that significant portions of the total operating hours, heating load, and energy consumption are in the part-load ratio range of 0 through 40%, whereby the energy consumption was significantly affected by the boiler efficiency under low part-load conditions. These results indicate that the part-load operation of a boiler is an important factor in residential buildings; furthermore, replacing a conventional boiler with a condensing boiler can reduce annual gas-energy usage by more than 20%.
