Controlled low strength material (CLSM) is a flowable mixture and does not need to be compacted. It is produced by mixing portland cement, fly ash, fine aggregates, water and chemical admixtures. Sand is the most commonly used fine aggregates in the conventional CLSM, but it is getting more and more difficult to obtain sand in Korea. In this study, the characteristics of unconfined compressive strength, flow and applicability of a new CLSM that is produced by mixing of pond ash, fly ash, water, cement are examined. An unconfined compressive strength satisfies the standard unconfined compressive strength (0.5~1.0 MPa) were obtained when the mixture ratio of pond ash and fly ash is 30:70~70:30, cement ratio is 3.0~5.0%, and water content is 31~34%. The results of flow test indicate that the mixture ratio of pond ash and fly ash which satisfy the standard How value (0.2 m) is 30:70~70:30.
In this study, engineering property tests were conducted for cement milk used as a filling materials in the bored piles method. For this purpose, various water/cement ratio specimens were produced on the basis of standard specimen specified in highway corporation specifications. The unconfined compressive strength, point load strength, elasticity modulus, poisson's ratio test was performed according to the age. As a test result, injection height for productions of cement milk specimens was defined ratios. Correlation coefficient K of the unconfined compressive strength and point load strength were $K_7=4.55{\sim}13.65$ in age 7 days, and $K_{28}=5.28{\sim}16.84$ in age 28 days. When water / cement ratio is 65-150%, the elastic modulus and Poisson's ratio significantly increased and decreased regardless of age. In addition, the formulae were proposed for unconfined compressive strength, point load strength, a correlation coefficient of unconfined compressive strength, point load strength, elastic modulus, and poisson's ratio for each age.

The improvement effect of soft ground is estimated by unconfined strength mainly. The unconfined strength of solidification agent treated soil is likely to vary with ununiformed mixing ratio and water content change of in-situ ground place by place. So, it is unreasonable to apply a solidification agent mixing ratio obtained from laboratory test results on all over the soft ground. In this study, it was analysed how the unconfined strength would be effected by the water content of soft ground. For this study, a series of unconfined compressive tests are peformed on various water content soil samples. The test results showed that the strength was fallen to 30∼80% by two times increase of water content approximately, This means that strength of solidification agent treated soil is influenced greatly by water content of raw soft ground and mixing ratio of solidification agent. It was suggested that the method how to decide the mixing ratio with soft ground water content.

Natural resources fur the construction materials such as good soil, sand, and coarse aggregates have been encountered to be short due to excessive use by human. Even though some soil has been found to be unsuitable for construction materials, soil with reinforcement can naturally be an answer to these alternatives. According to recently published papers on fiber mixed soil, fiber mixed with soil can improve shear strength, compressive strength and post-peak load strength retention. In this study, a series of tests were performed to clarify the characteristics of fiber mixed soil and to give basic data for design and construction and their engineering properties, that is, unconfined compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, shear strength, crack by drying, freeze-thaw, creep and Poisson\`s ratio, were investigated and analyzed. It has been shown that fiber mixed soil is one of good alternatives fur the civil and building construction materials.

The unconfined compressive strength of lightweight treated soils strongly depends on mixing ratio. To characterize the relation between various LTS components and the unconfined compressive strength of LTS, extensive studies have been conducted, proposing normalized factor using regression models based on their experimental results. However, these results obtained from laboratory experiments do not expect consistent prediction accuracy due to complicated relation between materials and mix proportions. In this study, deep neural network model(Deep-LTS), which was based on experimental test results performed on various mixing conditions, was applied to predict the unconfined compressive strength. It was found that the unconfined compressive strength LTS at a given mixing ratio could be resonable estimated using proposed Deep-LTS.

This experiment was carried out to find out the effectiveness of soil cement stabilization about the Song-I in Cheju province. The results are summarized as follows; 1.The increasing ratio of unconfined compressive strength according to the increment of cement content was markedly low compared with the weathered granite soil, so the effect of stabilization was low. 2.The moisture content of the sample of Song-I indicates the maximum unconfined compressive strength showed at the 5% or so of dry side than the optimum moisture content and the change of the unconfined compressive strength according to the change of moisture content was not sensitive compared with the weathered granite soil. 3.Generally the primary strength of curing age within 7 days of the sulfate resisting cement was low compared with the normal portland cement and the strength of 28 curing days showed a similar tendency, especially in case of Song-I, and it seemed that the sulfate resisting cement was a little more effective than the normal portland cement. 4.As the unconfined compressive strength of grain size controlled Song-I was low compared with the weathered granite soil, so the rate of weight loss by the durability test was great, therefore it was thought that the durability was weak.
The use of lateral reinforcement in confined concrete columns can improve bearing capacity and deformability. The lateral responses of lateral reinforcement significantly influence the effective confining pressure on core concrete. However, lateral strain-axial strain model of concrete columns confined by lateral reinforcement has not received enough attention. In this paper, based on experimental results of 85 concrete columns confined by lateral reinforcement under axial compression, the effect of unconfined concrete compressive strength, volumetric ratio, lateral reinforcement yield strength, and confinement type on lateral strain-axial strain curves was investigated. Through parameter analysis, it indicated that with the same level of axial strain, the lateral strain slightly increased with the increase in the unconfined concrete compressive strength, but decreased with the increase in volumetric ratio significantly. The lateral reinforcement yield strength had slight influence on lateral strain-axial strain curves. At the same level of lateral strain, the axial strain of specimen with spiral was larger than that of specimen with stirrup. Furthermore, a lateral strain-axial strain model for concrete columns confined by lateral reinforcement under axial compression was proposed by introducing the effects of unconfined concrete compressive strength, volumetric ratio, confinement type and effective confining pressure, which showed good agreement with the experimental results.
In this study, Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber was used to increase strength (unconfined compressive strength and tensile strength) of bio-cemented sand using microorganism. Ottawa sand was mixed with PVA fibers having three fiber contents (0, 0.4, and 0.8%). The fiber mixed sand was treated 14 times by using Microbially Induced Calcite Precipitation (MICP) which included culture (2 times per day) during 7 days to improve its engineering properties. The Bacillus Sporosarcina pasteurrii (Bacillus sp.) was used for urease activity. The specimen was prepared as a cylindrical specimen of 5 cm in diameter and 10 cm in height. Unconfined compressive strength and tensile strength were measured after cementation. Moreover, calcium carbonate content and SEM analyses were performed with a piece of sample. An average value of unconfined compressive strength increased and then slightly decreased but an average value of tensile strength ratio increased with increasing carbonate content the in same condition. Unconfined compressive strength and tensile strength increased about 30% and 160%, respectively. A strength ratio of unconfined compressive strength to tensile strength representing the brittleness decreased from 8 to 4 when fiber content increased from 0.0 to 0.8%. Such bio-cemented sand can be applied into slope area to prevent its shear failure or increase its tensile strength.

The plaster mixed to loam and sandy soil from 4 to 12 percent by dry soil weight, and the compaction, permeability, CBR, unconfined compressive strength and freezingthawing test were performed The results obtained are summarized as follows; 1.The coefficient of permeability reduced sharply at the plaster content of 4 percent, and in the CBR test, the swelling ratio reduced by the increment of plaster content. 2.The addition of plaster increased the unconfined compressive strength by the cementing effect, and it was found that the optimum plaster content, existed with the soil type, which showed the maximum strength 3.It was possible to enhance the unconfined compressive strength of the gypsum-lime-soil mixtures when the optimum content of plaster was mixed to the hydrated lime. 4.In case of sandy soil, the relative frost heave decreased with the mixture of plaster, however in loam soil, the relative frost heave began to increase at the plaster content of 12 percent than non-treated soil. Therefore the optimum plaster content existed for protecting frost heave by the different soil type. 5.The above summarized results make it possible to expect the effects such as improvement of soil properties, decrement of permeability, increment of unconfined compressive strength, and protection of frost heave, etc, therefore, it is considered that it is possible to it is plaster as sub-base materials of road.
Cemented soils have been widely used in road and dam construction, and recently ground improvement of soft soils. The strength of such cemented soils can be tested by using cored sample or laboratory-prepared specimen through unconfined compression or triaxial tests. It takes time to core a sample or prepare a testing specimen in the laboratory. In a certain situation, it is necessary to determine the in-situ strength of cemented soils very quickly and on time. In this study, the relation between unconfined compressive strength and shear wave velocity was investigated for predicting the in-situ strength of cemented soils. A small cemented specimen with 5 cm in diameter and 10 cm in height was prepared by Nakdong river sand and ordinary Portland cement. Its cement ratios were 4, 8, 12, and 16% and air cured for 7, 14, and 28 days. For recycling of resources, a blast furnace slag was also used with sodium hydroxide as an alkaline activator. The shear wave velocity for cemented soils was measured and then unconfined compressive strength test was carried out. As a cement ratio increased, the shear wave velocity and unconfined compressive strength increased due to increased density and denser structure. The relation between unconfined compressive strength and shear wave velocity increased nonlinearly for cemented soils with less than 16% of cement ratio.
