  • Power devices for high power drivers that need high switching speed (IGCT, HVIGBT) have been continuously developed. However, serial and parallel connections using several much cheaper, lower power capacity of devices than an expensive high power device are very useful methods in the aspect of cost down and high power application. Even the current and voltage unbalance problem is occurred at each devices. This unbalance characteristics are mainly caused by the differences of physical characteristics of each devices and the line inductance (stray inductance) of bus bars that consist of current path. This paper deals simulation analysis of serial connection of IGCTs and parallel connection of IGCTs using physical model of devices. And also, introduces the method to reduce the voltage and current unbalance problem.

두 개의 변압기를 이용한 전류불균형 개선 하프브리지 LLC 공진형 컨버터 (Current Unbalance Improved Half-bridge LLC Resonant Converter using the Two Transformers)

  • 본 논문은 상이한 누설인덕턴스를 가진 두 개의 변압기를 이용하여 전류불균형을 개선한 하프브리지 LLC 공진형 컨버터를 제안한다. 제안된 컨버터는 변압기의 누설인덕턴스와 자화인덕턴스 및 공진커패시턴스를 이용하여 공진하고, 넓은 부하영역을 가지며, 경부하에서도 영전압스위칭 조건을 만족한다. 직/병렬로 연결된 두 개의 변압기는 동작모드에 따라 변압기 또는 공진인덕턴스로써 교대로 동작하고, 변압기 2차측에는 누설인덕턴스를 이용하므로 별도의 출력 필터인덕턴스가 필요하지 않다. 또한 제안된 컨버터는 두 변압기의 상이한 누설인덕턴스와 하프브리지 스위치의 비대칭 펄스폭변조를 이용하여 2차측 정류다이오드의 전류불균형 문제를 개선한다. 본 논문에서는 제안된 컨버터의 동작원리를 모드별로 설명하고 프로토타입 컨버터의 설계 예를 제시한다. 제안된 컨버터의 우수한 성능을 입증하기 위하여 설계된 프로토타입의 회로파라미터로써 프로토타입 컨버터를 제작하고 실험하였다. 제안된 컨버터의 우수한 성능을 실험결과를 통하여 보인다.

  • The PWM(Pulse Width Modulated) converter for the AC to DC rectification has become attractive in the industrial variable-speed drive application and the electric utilities due to the following benefits: Nearly the sinusoidal input current with unity power factor; Controllable DC link voltage; Bidirectional power flow. This paper presents a quantitative analysis of single and three phase PWM converter's input and output characteristics as a function of the input filter inductance under balanced and unbalanced conditions. Also, its performance under the supply voltage including harmonics is investigated by simulation with Matlab Simlulink and experiments. These results provide a reference for selecting the reasonable converter's input filter inductance for given harmonics or power factor criterion.

12-펼스 위상제어 정류기를 사용한 전류원 (A Current Source using the 12-Pulse Phase-Controlled Rectifier)

  • A design method of a current source using 12-pulse phase-controlled rectifier (PCR) is presented. The critical inductance of the 12-pulse PCR is derived and it is shown that the critical inductance can be reduced using a current source. The control circuit of the 12-pulse PCR with an inner fast dynamic loop is proposed to give the frequency synchronism and to reduce the subharmonics due to the unbalance of the transformer of the power line. This circuit is analyzed and its dynamic loop is optimized. The optimal constant PIMF (proportional, integral and measurable variable feedback, and feedforware) controller is also designed using the time-weighted quadratic performance index. It is shown via experimental results that the proposed design method gives high dynamic and static performance of the current source using the 12-pulse PCR.

Design Methodology for Transformers Including Integrated and Center-tapped Structures for LLC Resonant Converters

  • A design methodology for transformers including integrated and center-tapped structures for LLC resonant converters is proposed. In the LLC resonant converter, the resonant inductor in the primary side can be merged in the transformer as a leakage inductance. And, the absence of the secondary filter inductor creates low voltage stress on the secondary rectifiers and is cost-effective. A center-tapped structure of the transformer secondary side is widely used in commercial applications because of its higher efficiency and lower cost than full-bridge structures in the rectifying stages. However, this transformer structure has problems of resonance imbalance and transformer inefficiency caused by leakage inductance imbalance in the secondary side and the position of the air-gap in the transformer, respectively. In this paper, gain curves and soft-switching conditions are derived by first harmonic approximation (FHA) and operating circuit simulation. In addition, the effects of the transformer including integrated and center-tapped structures are analyzed by new FHA models and simulations to obtain an optimal design. Finally, the effects of the air-gap position are analyzed by an electromagnetic field simulator. The proposed analysis and design are verified by experimental results with a 385W LLC resonant converter.

  • Large area plasma source has been built for LCD etcher by an array of $2{\times}2$ ICP sources. Since only one RF power supply and one impedance matching network is used in this configuration, any difference in impedances of unit RF antennas causes unbalanced power delivery to the unit ICP. In order to solve this unavoidable unbalance, unit antenna is designed to have a movable tap, with which the inductance of each unit can be adjusted individually. The plasma density becomes symmetric and etch rate becomes more uniform with the impedance adjustment. The concept of adding axial time-varying magnetic field to the single ICP source is applied to the array ICP source, and is found to be effective in terms of etch rate and uniformity.

  • The performance of an isolated high voltage full bridge converter is improved using a voltage doubler. In a conventional high voltage full bridge converter, the diode of the transformer secondary voltage undergoes a voltage spike due to the leakage inductance of the transformer and the resonance occurring with the parasitic capacitance of the diode. In addition, in the phase shift control, conduction loss largely increases from the freewheeling mode because of the circulating current. The efficiency of the converter is thus reduced. However, in the proposed converter, the high voltage dual converter consists of a voltage doubler because the circulating current of the converter is reduced to increase efficiency. On the other hand, in the proposed converter, an input current is distributed when using parallel input / serial output and the output voltage can be doubled. However, the voltages in the 2 serial DC links might be unbalanced due to line impedance, passive and active components impedance, and sensor error. Considering these problems, DC injection is performed due to the complementary operations of half bridge inverters as well as the disadvantage of the unbalance in the DC link. Therefore, the serial output of the converter needs to control the balance of the algorithm. In this paper, the performance of the conventional converter is improved and a balance control algorithm is proposed for the proposed converter. Also, the system of the 1.5[kW] PCS is verified through an experiment examining the operation and stability.

  • 본 논문은 영구자석형 동기발전기를 이용한 풍력발전 시스템의 3병렬 운전과 계통연계 기술을 제안한다. 영구자석형 풍력발전 시스템에서 back-to-back 컨버터는 발전기와 계통에 직접 연결되므로 시스템 정격에 준하는 전력 반도체 소자와 필터가 요구된다. 본 논문은 시스템의 전력변환부를 3병렬로 연결하고 병렬 운전에 의해 발생할 수 있는 순환 전류는 적절한 내부 인덕터 선정으로 해결한다. 낮은 스위칭 주파수로 운전되는 대용량 풍력발전 시스템의 THD 규정을 만족시키기 위해 최적 설계된 LCL필터를 사용하고 LCL필터에 의해 발생할 수 있는 공진 문제는 전력이론을 통한 능동 댐핑 기법을 통하여 추가적인 손실 없이 보상한다. 또한 계통 왜곡 및 불평형 시 발생할 수 있는 전력 품질의 문제는 추가적인 보상 알고리즘을 적용하여 향상시킨다. 시뮬레이션 및 실험을 통하여 병렬 운전 시스템과 알고리즘의 타당성을 검증한다.
