초음파 열화상 검사를 이용한 박판 용접시편의 결함 검출 (A Defect Detection of Thin Welded Plate using an Ultrasonic Infrared Imaging)

  • When a high-energy ultrasound propagates through a solid body that contains a crack or a delamination, the two faces of the defect do not ordinarily vibrate in unison, and dissipative phenomena such as friction, rubbing and clapping between the faces will convert some of the vibrational energy to heat. By combining this heating effect with infrared imaging, one can detect a subsurface defect in material efficiently. In this paper a detection of the welding defect of thin SUS 304 plates using the UIR (ultrasonic infrared imaging) technology is described. A low frequency (20kHz) ultrasonic transducer was used to infuse the welded thin SUS 304 plates with a short pulse of sound for 280ms. The ultrasonic source has a maximum power of 2kW. The surface temperature of the area under inspection is imaged by a thermal infrared camera that is coupled to a fast frame grabber in a computer. The hot spots, which are a small area around the defect tip and heated up highly, are observed. From the sequence of the thermosonic images, the location of defective or inhomogeneous regions in the welded thin SUS 304 plates can be detected easily.

  • 준설매립 및 연약지반 처리에 있어 압밀촉진 공법들에 대한 연구가 활발하다. 본 연구에서는 초음파를 사용하여 압밀촉진을 유발하고자 하였고 그 영향 정도를 실내실험을 통하여 조사하였다. 실내시험은 특별히 제작된 압밀시험기를 사용하였으며 압밀시험 중 초음파를 시료에 직접 가할 수 있도록 고안되었다. 압밀시험 재료로는 원심력 시험기를 사용하여 원하는 조건에 맞는 동질의 시룔르 제작하여 사용하였으며 초음파 강도, 처리 시간을 달리하여 시험을 실시하였다. 시험결과 초음파가 압밀에 미치는 영향은 큰 것으로 나타났으며 초음파 처리의 영향에 미치는 정도가 시험조건에 따라 다르게 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과를 이용하여 초음파에 의해 압밀촉진을 위한 공법개발의 가능성을 파악하였다.

초음파화학 반응에 의한 Ag 도핑 광촉매용 나노 TiO2 분말의 합성 (Synthesis of Nano-Scale Photocatalyic TiO2 Powder Doped with Ag by Sonochemistry Reaction)

  • In chemistry, the study of sonochemistry is concerned with understanding the effect of sonic waves and wave properties on chemical systems. In the area of chemical kinetics, it has been observed that ultrasound can greatly enhance chemical reactivity in a number of systems by as much as a million-fold. Nano-technology is a super microscopic technology in which structures of 100 nanometers or smaller can be investigated. This technology has been used to develop $TiO_2$ materials and $TiO_2$ devices of that size. Thus far, electrochemistry methods and photochemistry methods have generally been used to create $TiO_2$ nano-size particles. However, these methods are complicated and create pollutants as a by-product. In the present study, nano-scale silver particles (5 nm) were prepared in a sonochemistry method. Sonochemistry deals with mechanical energy that is provided by the collapse of cavitation bubbles that form in solutions during exposure to ultrasound. $TiO_2$ powders 25 nm in size doped with Ag were formed using an ultrasonic sound technique. The experimental results showed the high possibility of removing pollution through the action of a photocatalyst. This powder synthesis technique can be considered as an environmentally friendly powder-forming processing owing to its energy saving characteristics.

초음파진단 시 전파매질의 유용성 (Research on the Effectiveness of Diagnostic Ultrasound Transmission Media)

  • 초음파 전파 매개물은 초음파의 손실 없는 투과력을 위한 1차적인 목적 이외에 피부위에서 탐촉소자의 부드러운 이동을 위한 부가적인 목적이 있다. 본 연구는 진단용 초음파의 고분자 수화젤, 에멀전, 오일젤의 제형이 다른 초음파 전파매개물이 갖는 피부 윤활성, 피부 보습성, 건조속도 등의 초음파 매개물의 특징을 측정하여 이미 상용화 된 기성품과 비교하였다. 마찰계수는 고점도 에멀전에서 가장 높았으며 저점도 에멀전에서는 고분자 수화젤의 평균 마찰계수와 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다. 제제의 건조속도는 고분자 수화젤이 가장 높았으며 오일 함유량이 많을수록 수분증발이 나타나지 않았다. 피부수분함량에서는 저점도 에멀전이 높은 수분함량을 나타냈으며 수분함량 감소 정도가 가장 완만히 나타났다. 오일성분을 적절히 사용한 에멀전 형태의 초음파 전파매개물은 피부 보습효과, 피부 유연작용의 피부 건강측면과 피부-탐촉소자간의 피부 윤활성면에서 효과적인 제형임을 알 수 있었다.

Isotherm, kinetic and thermodynamic studies of dye removal from wastewater solution using leach waste materials

  • In this study, Malachite Green (MG) dye removal from synthetic wastewaters by adsorption process using raw boron enrichment waste (BEW) and it's modifications (with acid and ultrasound) were aimed. 81% MG removal was obtained by BEW at optimum equilibrium conditions (time: 40 min., dosage: 500 mg/dm3, pH: 5-6, speed: 200 rpm, 298 K). MG removal from wastewaters using acid modified boron enrichment waste (HBEW) was determined as 82% at optimum conditions (time: 20 min., dosage: 200 mg/dm3, pH: 10, speed: 200 rpm, 298 K). For ultrasound modified BEW (UBEW), the highest MG removal percent was achieved as 84% at optimum conditions (time: 30 min, dosage: 375 mg/ dm3, pH: 8, speed: 200 rpm, 298 K). The equilibrium data of Malachite Green was evaluated for BEW, HBEW and UBEW adsorbents by using sorption isotherms such as Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin models, out of which Langmuir model (R2 = 0.971, 0.987 and 0.984) gave better correlation and maximum adsorption capacity was found to be 147.05, 434.78 and 192.30 mg/g, respectively. The adsorption kinetics followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic equation for sorption of MG onto wastes. A look at thermodynamic data reveals that natural sorption is spontaneous and endothermic because of free negative energy exchange and positive change in enthalpy, respectively. The results indicated that boron enrichment waste, and HCl and ultrasound-modified boron enrichment waste served as good alternative adsorbents in dye removal from wastewater.

비집속 회분저주파를 이용한 Dunaliella salina 세포 파쇄 (Cell Disruption of Dunaliella salina using Batch Low Frequency Non-Focused Ultrasound)

  • Using fossil fuels in existing industrial systems causes a variety of social problems. Recently, many studies have been conducted on bio-refineries, which aim to actively utilize biomass to reduce the use of fossil fuels and solve various social problems. Among them, research using microalgae as a third-generation biomass has attracted considerable attention. Microalgae use inorganic matter to produce organic matter, and cell destruction is necessary to extract useful organic materials from microalgae. The extracted organic materials are currently used in various industrial fields. Numerous cell-destruction methods exist. We have investigated cell disruption by sonication, especially its efficiency. Ultrasound is a sound wave with frequencies above 20 kHz, and destroys cells by sending high energy through a cavitation that occurs, according to the characteristics of the sound wave. The Dunaliella salina microalgae used in this study was cultured in a flat-type photobioreactor. Experiments were performed using a batch low-frequency processing device. Logistic model was applied to analyze the results of cell-destruction experiments using ultrasound. The proper conditions for the most efficient cell destruction were OD 1.4(microalgae concentration)), 54watt(output power) and 200mL(microalgae capacity).

Study on the Controlled Gel Formation and Photochromic Properties of a New Cholesterol-bridge-naphthopyran Dyad

  • A cholesterol-bridge-naphthopyran dyad (NP-MCB) was designed and synthesized. NP-MCB can readily self-assemble into gels under ultrasound-radiation in several organic solvents and the formed gels easily transfer to solution by heat. This reversible process can be repeated many times. Scanning Electron Microscopy results showed that the morphologies of all formed xerogels in different solvents have fibrillar microstructure. The gels formation was due to energy and pressure afforded by the ultrasonic process, resulting in formation of molecular hydrogen bonding and molecular aggregation. NP-MCB displayed the normal photochromism both in solution and gel states. The kinetic results confirm that the colored merocyanine in gels show a slower fading speed than that in solution due to the compact aggregation of NP-MCB molecules in gels. The xerogel film formed in polar gelling solvent had large surface wettability than that in nonpolar gelling solvent.

초음파와 고전압 병행 처리에 의한 슬러지 용존화 상승효과 (Synergic effect of sludge solubilization by the combined treatment of ultrasound and high voltage)

  • 0.5 ton/day 용량의 장비를 이용하여 초음파와 고전압 단독 처리에 의한 슬러지 용존화율을 조사하였다. 또한 초음파와 고전압을 병행한 방법에 의한 슬러지 용존화율을 조사하였다. 그 결과 초음파와 고전압을 개별적으로 적용하였을시 나타나는 슬러지 용존화율 보다 이 둘을 병행하여 함께 처리했을 시에 나타나는 슬러지 용존화율에 기대 이상의 상승효과가 있는 것을 알 수 있었다.

  • In accordance with the need of developing a methodology for the sludge reduction, this study investigates the effect of sonication on the dewaterability of the sewage sludge. The investigation involves laboratory experiments of the sewage sludge from Yongin Waste Treatment Plant. The Laboratory tests were conducted under a broad range of conditions including energy levels of ultrasonic waves, time for the treatment, pH, and effect of polymers. The results of the study show that sonication enhances the dewaterability significantly The degree of enhancement varies with sonication power, treatment time, the amount of sludge treated. The effect of sonication on the temperature and pH of the test specimens seems not to be significant. The polymer can be useful to enhance the effectiveness of ultrasound treatment.

원자로 용접부의 국부적 미세조직 변화에 따른 동적탄성계수 측정 (Measurement of Dynamic Elastic Constants of RPV Steel Weld due to Localized Microstructural Variation)

  • 원자로 재료인 SA 508 Class 3 강용접부 및 열영향부 모사 시험편에 대해서 초음파공명분광법으로 동적탄성계수를 측정하였다. 등방성 탄성계수를 가정하여 초기 추정 탄성 계수, $c_{11},\;c_{12}$$c_{44}$로부터 장방형 시편의 공명 주파수를 계산하였으며 계산된 주파수와 초음파공명분광법으로 측정된 주파수를 비교, 반복 수렴 절차를 거쳐 정밀한 탄성계수를 구했다. 열처리 조건의 차이 및 미세 조직의 차이에 따라 영률 및 전단 계수의 차이가 확실하게 나타났다. 미세한 베이나이트 조직에서의 영률 및 전단 계수는 조대한 마르텐사이트 조직보다 높았으며 이러한 경향은 미세 경도 시험 등의 다른 실험 결과와도 일치하였다.
