Spot용접 접합면의 초음파 비파괴평가 기법 제 1보 C-scan 기법을 중심으로 (Ultrasonic C-scan Technique for Nondestructive Evaluation of Spot Weld Quality)

  • 초음파 C-scan 기법에 의해 스폿(spot)용접의 품질 평가를 위한 비파괴진단 평가에 관한 기초적인 실험적 검토를 하였다. 먼저, 스폿용접부 초음파탐상에 앞서 뉴우톤링의 모델링 실험을 통해 미소 간극을 갖는 접합계면에서의 초음파 반사 거동의 해석 결과를 근거로 스폿용접부의 너겟 형상과 크기, void 결함등의 정량적 평가와 corona bond의 정확한 식별에 최적한 초음파시험방법 및 조건의 설정을 시도하였다. 초음파시험 후 용접시험편을 절단하고, 그 절단면을 초음파현미경(SAM)과 광학현미경의 단면 관찰을 통해 스폿용접 품질 평가를 위한 초음파 비파괴평가법의 유용 가능성 유무, 적용 한계 등을 검토하였다. 그 결과 본 실험에 사용한 집속 초음파탐촉자(25MHz)에 의한 너겟 내부에 존재하는 void 크기의 검출한계는 $10{\mu}m$였으며 너겟 크기는 초음파시험의 경우가 최대 1mm정도 크게 측정되어 corona bond의 정확한 식별과 너겟 직경의 정량적 평가에 접근하기 위해서는 초음파 C-scan 데이터의 각종 화상 처리 기술의 적용에 의한 corona bond부의 명확한 식별 방법에 대한 연구 검토가 요망됨을 알 수 있었다.

Cutting efficiency of apical preparation using ultrasonic tips with microprojections: confocal laser scanning microscopy study

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare the cutting efficiency of a newly developed microprojection tip and a diamond-coated tip under two different engine powers. Materials and Methods: The apical 3 mm of each root was resected, and root-end preparation was performed with upward and downward pressure using one of the ultrasonic tips, KIS-1D (Obtura Spartan) or JT-5B (B&L Biotech Ltd.). The ultrasonic engine was set to power-1 or -4. Forty teeth were randomly divided into four groups: K1 (KIS-1D / Power-1), J1 (JT-5B / Power-1), K4 (KIS-1D / Power-4), and J4 (JT-5B / Power-4). The total time required for root-end preparation was recorded. All teeth were resected and the apical parts were evaluated for the number and length of cracks using a confocal scanning micrscope. The size of the root-end cavity and the width of the remaining dentin were recorded. The data were statistically analyzed using two-way analysis of variance and a Mann-Whitney test. Results: There was no significant difference in the time required between the instrument groups, but the power-4 groups showed reduced preparation time for both instrument groups (p < 0.05). The K4 and J4 groups with a power-4 showed a significantly higher crack formation and a longer crack irrespective of the instruments. There was no significant difference in the remaining dentin thickness or any of the parameters after preparation. Conclusions: Ultrasonic tips with microprojections would be an option to substitute for the conventional ultrasonic tips with a diamond coating with the same clinical efficiency.

전자적 스캔에 의한 미소결함길이 평가기법 (A Small Crack Length Evaluation Technique by Electronic Scanning)

  • 초음파에 의한 결함평가 방법은 결과가 검사자의 경험과 지식에 의존되고 검사자에 따라 평가결과가 달라진다. 위상배열 초음파는 탐촉자 소자에 초음파를 발생하는 시간지연을 부여함으로서 초음파 빔의 집속방향과 위치를 전자적으로 제어할 수 있는 특징이 있으며 탐촉자를 움직이지 않고 결함의 평가가 가능하다. 본 연구에서는 위상배열 초음파의 전자적 스캔 특성을 이용하여 미소결함에 대한 크기평가의 기법에 대한 고찰을 하였다. 일반적으로 탐촉자를 움직여서 결함길이를 평가하는 기존의 방법은 결함의 길이가 아주 미소할 경우는 탐촉자의 이동거리 역시 미소하여 크기를 평가하기가 곤란하다. 따라서 전자적 스캔의 특성을 이용하여 미소결함에 대해서도 결함길이를 정확하게 평가할 수 있는 방법 및 기법에 대하여 고찰하여 그 유효성을 입증하였다.

소듐냉각고속로 소듐 내부 가시화를 위한 이중회전구동 C-스캔 시스템 및 프로그램 개발 (Development of Double Rotation C-Scanning System and Program for Under-Sodium Viewing of Sodium-Cooled Fast Reactor)

  • 웨이브가이드 초음파센서를 적용하여 소듐냉각 고속로 KALIMER-600의 원자로 노심과 내부구조물의 소듐내부가시화를 수행하는 이중회전 구동 C-스캔 시스템과 소프트웨어 프로그램 Under-Sodium MultiVIEW를 개발하였다. 이중회전 구동 C-스캔 시스템은 KALIMER-600 원자로 헤드의 이중회전 플러그를 모사하여 설계 제작하였으며 웨이브가이드 초음파센서에 초음파 펄스를 송수신할 수 있는 고출력 초음파 시스템과 스캐너 구동 제어 장치를 구축하였다. Under-Sodium MultiVIEW 프로그램은 이중회전 스캐너의 구동을 제어하면서 웨이브가이드 초음파센서에 초음파 신호를 송수신하여 영상 처리를 수행하는 소듐내부가시화 프로그램으로서 LabVIEW 그래픽 프로그램 언어를 기반으로 개발되었다. 이중회전 구동에 의한 수중 C-스캔 성능시험을 수행하여 Under-Sodium MultiVIEW 프로그램의 가시화 성능을 실험적으로 검증하였다.

초음파 사각 트랜스듀서의 최적설계를 위한 지향성 해석 (Directivity Analysis for Optimal Design of Ultrasonic Angle Beam Transducer)

  • Ultrasonic testing uses the directivity of the ultrasonic wave, which propagates in on direction. The directivity is expressed as the relationship between the propagate direction and its sound pressure. The directivity of an ultrasonic wave is related to the choice of probe arrangement, testing sensitivity and scanning pitch and correct measurement of defect size and location. This paper describes on the directivity measurement of ultrasonic wave using the visualization method. The directivity of shear wave emitted from the angle beam transducer were constant during propagation. The difference of directivity was existed between 2 MHz and 4 MHz angle beam transducers. When these experimental results were compared with the theory which was based on the continuous wave, it showed good agreement with theoretical directivity on the principal lobe.

의학용 초음파검사기에 의한 MoSi2의 미소결함 탐상 (A Study on Detection of Small Defects for MoSi2 by Medical Ultrasonic Testing)

  • Detection of small defects by medical ultrasonic testing when the thermal sprayed coating by $MoSi_2$ on the metal is done. The defects may occur at the bonded surface. So, the detecting method of the defects by non-destructive in spection is desired. Here, in order to examine the possibility of the detection of the small defects by the ultrasonic. The electronic scanning ultrasonic equipment using an array probe developed as the medical ultrasonic diagnostic equipment is applied for the detection of the metal material defects. It's validity is investigated.

Study on Highly Accuracy Quality Evaluation of Spot Weld by use of Image Processing Technique

  • This paper discusses the feasibility of Ultrasonic Nondestructive Evaluation (UNDE) technique for sport weld quality. Ultrasonic c-scan image assisted by image processing technique was used for Nondestructive Evaluation(NDE) of spot weld quality. Ultrasonic testing results obtained were confirmed and compared by Optical Microscope and SAM(Scanning Acoustic Mircroscope) observation of the spot-weld cross section, The results show that the nugget dinameter can be successfully measured with the accuracy of 0.5mm. It was ascertained that ultrasonic c-scan technique is very effective method for the sake of the approach to the quantitative measurement of nugget diameter and the discrimination of the corona bond from nugget. Additional support for the above conclusions is provided by the results for galvanized steel. The ultrasonic results for galvanized welds generally correspond to the results for uncoated steel. Finally, it was found that the above-mentioned technique can be sufficiently applied to NDE method for securing the Quality Assurance(QA) of spot welded products in production line.

Effect of three different irrigation solutions applied by passive ultrasonic irrigation

  • Objectives: This study evaluated the maximum depth and percentage of irrigant penetration into dentinal tubules by passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI). Materials and Methods: Thirty extracted human teeth were instrumented and divided into three groups. According to final irrigation regimen, 5.25% sodium hypochlorite (Group A, NaOCl), 2% chlorhexidine (Group B, CHX) and saline solution (Group C, control group) were applied with Irrisafe 20 tips (Acteon) and PUI. Irrigant was mixed with 0.1% rhodamine B. Sections at 2 mm, 5 mm, and 8 mm from the apex were examined with confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM). The percentage and maximum depth of irrigant penetration were measured. Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney test were performed for overall comparison between groups at each level and for pairwise comparison, respectively. Within a group, Wilcoxon test was performed among different levels. p values less than 0.05 were considered significant. Results: In all groups, highest penetration depth and percentage of penetration were observed at the 8 mm level. At 2 mm level, Groups A and B had significantly greater depths and percentages in penetration than Group C (p < 0.05), but there were no significant differences between Groups A and B. At 5 mm level, penetration depths and percentage of penetration was not significantly different among the groups. Conclusions: NaOCl and CHX applied by PUI showed similar depth and percentage of penetration at all evaluated levels.

Noncontact techniques for monitoring of tunnel linings

  • An investigation of tunnel linings is performed at two tunnels in the US using complimentary noncontact techniques: air-coupled ground penetrating radar (GPR), and a vehicle-mounted scanning system (SPACETEC) that combines laser, visual, and infrared thermography scanning methods. This paper shows that a combination of such techniques can maximize inspection coverage in a comprehensive and efficient manner. Since ground-truth is typically not available in public tunnel field evaluations, the noncontact techniques used are compared with two reliable in-depth contact nondestructive testing methods: ground-coupled GPR and ultrasonic tomography. The noncontact techniques are used to identify and locate the reinforcement mesh, structural steel ribs, internal layer interfaces, shallow delamination, and tile debonding. It is shown that this combination of methods can be used synergistically to provide tunnel owners with a comprehensive and efficient approach for monitoring tunnel lining conditions.

  • This paper presents a local obstacle avoidance method for indoor mobile robots using Lane method and velocity Space Command approach. The method locates local obstacles using the information form multi-sensors, such that ultrasonic sensor array and laser scanning sensor. The method uses lane method to determine optimum collision-free heading direction of a robot. Also, it deals with the robot motion dynamics problem to reduce some vibration and guarantee fast movement as well. It yields translational and rotational velocities required to avoid the detected obstacles and to keep the robot heading direction toward goal location as close as possible. For experimental verification of the method, a mobile robot driven by two AC servo motors, equipped with 24 ultrasonic sensor array and laser scanning sensor navigates using the method through a corridor cluttered with obstacle.
