Cemented soils have been used for subbase or base materials of roads, backfill materials of retaining walls and cofferdam. Such cemented soils can be degraded due to repeated wetting and drying or various weathering actions. Unlike rocks, a standard method was not defined for evaluating the durability of cemented soils. In this study, a slaking durability test and an ultrasound cleaner were used for developing a new durability test method for cemented soils. For durability tests, cemented sands with different cement ratios (4, 6, 8, and 12%) with cylindrical specimens were prepared and then air cured or under-water cured for three days. Three-day-cured specimens were dried for one day and then submerged for one day before testing. The weight loss after the slake durability test or ultrasonic cleaner operation for 10 or 20 min was measured and used for assessing durability. When a cement ratio was 4%, the weight loss from ultrasonic cleaner test was 7-25% but that from slake durability test was as much as 30-60%. For specimens with cement ratio of more than 8%, the weight loss was less than 10% from both tests. A durability index increased with increasing a cement ratio. The durability index of under-water cured specimen was higher than that of air cured specimen. The ultrasonic cleaner test was found to be an effective tool for durability assessment of cemented sands rather than the slake durability test.
Purpose: An in vitro study was conducted to compare the lipid cleaning efficacy of care solutions on balafilcon A silicone hydrogel (SiHy) lens. Methods: Lipid spoilation was performed by incubating balafilcon A SiHy lenses in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) containing oleic acid, oleic acid methyl ester and cholesterol. Spoiled contact lenses rinsed with PBS were cleaned with surfactant cleaner, alcohol containing cleaner and multipurpose solution (MPS) respectively and repetitive spoilation and cleaning was conducted up to 14 times. To observe the cleaning effect of ultrasonic wave on the lipid deposit, each spoiled lens was ultrasonicated and then compared with non-sonicated lens. Lipids deposit on the contact lenses was extracted by methanol:chloroform (1:1, v/v) solution. High performance liquid chromatography was used to analyze and quantify lipid deposit extracts. Results: The effectiveness of alcohol containing surfactant cleaner on the lipid deposits was better than that of surfactant cleaner and MPS, and the cleaning efficacy was significantly higher in the ultrasonic wave treated group. Lipid deposits were not removed completely by contact lens care solutions so that lipid deposits increased continuously and cumulatively. Conclusions: The cleaning efficacy of contact lens care solutions was not satisfactory to remove lipid deposits on the SiHy lens that new cleaning products specially designed for SiHy lenses are needed to develop.
In order to determine the removal efficiency of pesticide residues on apples by ultrasonic cleaner, apples(Fuji var.) were artificially treated by dipping in water solution of fenitrothion EC, chlorpyrifos EC and phenthoate EC. The treated apples were washed by the ultrasonic cleaner with water, 30% ethanol solution or 0.2% detergent solution, respectively. The removal efficiency of fenitrothion, chlorpyrifos and phent-hoate by ultrasonicated washing in water for 0.5min. was 39.2%, 32.0% and 50.4%, respectively, but there was a tendency to decrease the removal efficiency of the pesticide residues as the duration of ultrasonicated washing period is increased. The maximum removal efficiency of the pesticide residues washed in the detergent solution was observed by ultrasonicated washing the samples for 5min. and it was recorded as 33.5% ; fenitrothion, 30.1% ; chlorpyrifos and 48.3% ; phenthoate, respectively. However it's appeared that the longer the ultrasonicated washing period in 30% ethanol solution the more pesticides from the apples were removed and the maximum removal efficiency of the pesticides was recorded as 66.2%(fenitrothion ; washed for 15min.), 41.7%(chlorpyrifos ; washed for 10min.), 74.2%(phenthoate ; washed for 10min.).
This paper describes a shower type ultrasonic cleaning system using particle acceleration, developed for better effectiveness in washing out agricultural chemicals from fruits or vegetables, compared to the existing bath type ultrasonic cleaning system. The shower type system consists of a signal generator, a transducer, and a spouting nozzle, mainly. The system has been tested based on the method recommended by Korea Food and Drug Administration. It is found that shower type system shows better performance and cost-effectiveness than the bath type system that is commercially available .

This paper deals with the application of a sound-ray method to the analysis of the sound field in an ultrasonic cleaner. In order to include the wave interference phenomenon, the method has been modified to consider the phase of sound rays, The improved algorithm has been implemented by developing a Visual C++ program, The algorithm has been verified by comparing the analysis results of BEM reported earlier. It has been shown that the algorithm can be used to calculate ultrasonic fields in a cleaning- container with an object to be cleaned.
Purpose: This study compares the deformation of traditional resin dentures to resin dentures printed with digital light processing (DLP). Methods: Eleven edentulous research models were developed. Ten of them were made with traditional resin dentures. The remaining one was prepared for scanning and 3D (three-dimensional) printing. Ten traditional resin dentures were made, with the remaining artificial teeth created using 3D software and a DLP printer. Traditional resin dentures, 3D printed resin denture artificial teeth, and a denture base with artificial teeth were all cleaned simultaneously in an ultrasonic cleaner for 3 minutes. Three groups were assigned four artificial tooth measurement points, which were then measured with digital calipers. The measured data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. The significance test was conducted using a nonparametric test Kruskal-Wallis test due to the small number of specimens (α=0.05). Results: The traditional resin dentures had the lowest strain rate at -0.04%, while the group that manufactured only artificial teeth had the highest strain rate at -0.09%. However, no statistically significant difference was observed between the 3 groups (p>0.05). Conclusion: During ultraviolet-type ultrasonic cleaning, traditional resin dentures (TD group) and denture base with artificial teeth made of DLP (DD group) demonstrated stable durability, whereas the artificial teeth made of DLP (AD group) with only artificial teeth did not show a good deformation rate.
We searched at the "PubMed.gov" and "jendodon.com" sites to conduct a literature review on dental instruments that are reused in clinical settings and on infection control involving pre-disinfection or sterilization cleaning/rinsing. The keyword "dental clean" was used for the Web search. We found the present official definition of instrument cleaning performed prior to disinfection or sterilization rather limiting ("removal of foreign matter (soil, organism, etc.) from the instruments"). Thus, we proposed to expand the definition to include the removal of oils applied to protect the metallic instruments and from corrosion, stains, and rust resulting from the frequent reuse of the instruments. Clinicians are found to clean their dental instruments (a) immediately after treating their patients or (b) following their treatment but not immediately afterward. In the latter case, we recommend presoaking to be added. Ultrasonic sterilization of 5~15 minutes is found to be more effective in terms of eliminating residual matter from the instruments compared to other methods. To check on the cleaning results, we recommend visual inspection, which can be quick and practical in clinical settings. The latest products being developed and marketed on the market address the related problems. Nonetheless, research must be continued on the effects of presoak, cleaning/rinsing, disinfection, and high-temperature or heating-based sterilization on the dental instruments and on dental clinicians' practices in cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization. We advise dental clinicians to select the proper cleaning methods and detergents for their instruments to help eliminate or prevent corrosion, staining, and rusting, to reduce the maintenance costs, and to ensure user-friendly instruments/apparatuses.

We have developed a smart decontamination device for small-size radioactive scrap metal (SSRSM) necessarily generated from nuclear facilities. This is a multi-modal device such as rotation of magnetic field focusing on the region containing the abrasion pins placed around target and ultrasonic cleaner. Additionally, in order to increase the decontamination efficiency we have modified some configuration of the device so that it could work on them evenly and totally. With the Optimal operating for operation of the new device, we tried to decontaminate some various metal selected as a sample during 15 minutes sequentially using each method, magnetic and ultrasonic device. As a result, the range of decontamination factor has been highly increased to 18~56. After decontamination, all samples were found its activity less than background level.
Using ultrasonic irradiation, the separation and recovery of PV cell, made of silicon wafer, from PV module was carried out through selective decomposition of EVA used as an interlaminated binder. The ultrasonic cleaner of bath-type (Output: 130 W, Frequency: 40 kHz) was used as an ultrasonic apparatus in this research. With the fixed distance of 2 cm, from ultrasonic generator to PV cell, the experiment of EVA decomposition was performed in various organic solvents such as Toluene, Trichloroethylene, O-dichlorobenzene, Benzene. And also their concentrations and temperature was changed to survey the optimum conditions. However EVA can be decomposed perfectly at $55^{\circ}C$ within 160 min in 5 M of all kinds of solvent, PV cell may be recovered with being damaged or broken severely. This damage may be resulted from the swelling of EVA in the process of decomposition. Whereas, at the condition of 5 M at $65^{\circ}C$, PV cell can be recovered with the state of minor damage or crack. This implies that the decomposition rate of EVA increases with an increase of temperature, thereby EVA can be decomposed before the swelling of EVA layer. Conclusively, it is possible for PV cell to be recovered within 40 min, at $65^{\circ}C$ in 5 M, with less damage.
Recently, TFT LCD (thin film transistor liquid crystal display) manufacturing industry is more concerned with the ways of cleaning large TFT LCD´s with high pixed density than ever Ultrasonic cleaners with high frequencies like 1MHz (megasonic cleaners) are effective in removing very small particles without causing mechanical damage to the surface. In this study a megasonic cleaner for TFT LCD manufacturing process is developed and the performance is evaluated through experiments. The experimental results show that the developed magasonic cleaners is effective in removing very small particle from the LCD panel.
