Development of the hybrid-type ultrasound speaker (하이브리드형 초음파 스피커 개발)

  • Directional ultrasonic speakers that are used to hear sound only in a specific area have been continuously researched on various improvements in terms of sound quality and cost compared to general speakers. In this paper, we propose a DSP based hybrid-type ultrasonic speaker that can be heard at the same time as a general speaker in order to compensate for the sound in the low-band range, considering that it is difficult to hear the low-band sound below 500 Hz due to the sensor characteristics of the ultrasonic speaker. In the case of the system that is implemented by simply connecting a general speaker and an ultrasonic speaker, there are issues of high cost and difficulties of control as two amplifiers are used to playback ultrasonic and general sound sources. In addition, sound quality deteriorates due to the difference in playback time between ultrasonic and general sound sources. In order to improve issues of cost, control and sound quality, we developed hybrid-type ultrasonic speaker with a DSP based amplifier that can simultaneously playback by synchronizing the general sound source with the regenerated ultrasonic sound source, in addition to implement the existing CODEC functions such as Dynamic Range Control (DRC) and Equalizer (EQ).

  • In this study, we introduce an LED Driving circuit in order that the information state can indicate audio signal gain and radiate pattern of ultrasonic speaker system for a sign board. Ultrasonic speaker system decreases energy loss and transmits the sound farther. Ultrasonic speaker having such characteristics is useful in that it can be widely used in daily life. Additionally, Proposed LED circuit indicates the information state as linear LED brightness taken from interface of ultrasonic speaker system. Designed circuit is confirmed through $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS process by Dong-bu.

  • Recently, the functions of smart speakers have diversified, and the penetration rate of smart speakers is increasing. As it becomes more widespread, various techniques have been proposed to cause anomalous behavior against smart speakers. Dolphin Attack, which causes anomalous behavior against the Voice Controllable System (VCS) during various attacks, is a representative method. With this method, a third party controls VCS using ultrasonic band (f>20kHz) without the user's recognition. However, since the method uses the ultrasonic band, it is necessary to install an ultrasonic speaker or an ultrasonic dedicated device which is capable of outputting an ultrasonic signal. In this paper, a smart speaker is controlled by generating an audio signal modulated at a frequency (18 to 20) which is difficult for a person to hear although it is in the human audible frequency band without installing an additional device, that is, an ultrasonic device. As a result with the method proposed in this paper, while humans could not recognize voice commands even in the audible band, it was possible to control the smart speaker with a probability of 82 to 96%.

Fabrication of an Ultrasonic Speaker with Piezoelectric Ceramics (압전 세라믹을 이용한 초음파 스피커의 제작)

  • In this paper, we have investigated on the development of ultrasonic speakers that have higher directivity and much wider bandwidth than those of conventional loudspeakers. For optimal structure of speaker, we have analyzed material properties and dimension of the piezoelectric element and the vibrating metal plate, and their support type as well as the housing case. Based on the design, we have fabricated ultrasonic speaker prototypes, measured their performance, and verified validity of the design theory. For higher sound pressure level, the ultrasonic array speaker prototype has been fabricated in the form of an array. The design and fabrication method worked in this paper can be utilized in development of various ultrasonic speakers with higher directivity and broader bandwidth.

A Parametric Speaker Driving Technic Using MDSB Method. (MDSB 방식을 이용한 Parametric speaker 구동)

  • In this paper an ultrasonic loud speaker (ie,. parametric speaker) driving technic was proposed. The study was focused on reduction of distortion in self-demodulated sound using a sound source deriven by MDSB(Modified Double Side Band) signal. And, the esperiment was performed in acoustic wave guide usin the developed MDSB unit according to the variation of distance from the source. In the result, prposed MDSB method was found to decrease second harnonic distortion in -3 to -6 dB compared to conventional DSB method.

  • Piezoelectric micro-machined ultrasonic transducers for highly directional speaker need DC bias voltage. Most existing power amplifiers are not suitable for use in highly directional transducers because they are based on AC. In addition, since the piezoelectric micro-machined ultrasonic transducer has a large capacitive reactance, the power efficiency of the power amplifier is very low. Thus this paper proposes a new high efficiency power amplifier with DC bias voltage. In addition, by designing a matching circuit to compensate the capacitive reactance of the micro-machined ultrasonic transducer, the power efficiency of the power amplifier increases. The operating characteristics of the proposed power amplifier was verified by an experimental prototype. The proposed power amplifier is expected to be widely used in designing and implementing other related power amplifiers.

  • In the paper, A prototype Fetal Heart Monitor, mini - size, was designed and produced for pre-mothers to measure the rate and rhythm of their features's heart at home.Pre-mothers could listen fetal heart rhythm through an inner bluetooth speaker ant the monitor. LED colors show the frequency of fetal heart rate variability on the monitor. All measured health information, by ultrasonic resonator and bluetooth speaker, is linked to a mother's smart phone. A test verified this simple measuring device helps users discover the symptoms of fetal health. Patients using at home devices usefully prevent sudden cardiac death and myocardial infraction by discovering symptoms.

  • In this paper, For operator's conveniency of the mobile robot, achieved the system which control the robot by adopting the speaker independently isolated word recognition and by implementing the real time with TMS320C31. and This paper using the Tri-ultrasonics range finder to detect obstacles and implements the mobile robot. In this paper, DSP processor (TMS320C31) is used signal processing for speech recognition in the real time and Micro processor(80C196KC) is controling the ultrasonics range finders.

  • 본 논문에서는 지향성이 좋고, 대역폭이 넓은 초음파 스피커를 설계, 제작하는 것을 목표로 하였다. 이를 구현하기 위하여 초음파를 발생시키는데 널리 이용되고 있는 압전 세라믹인 PZT를 사용하였다. 먼저 스피커 제작을 위하여 금속진동판의 종류와 크기, 감도, 대역폭등의 최적값을 도출하여 주변고정, 마디지지, 주변지지의 형태로 스피커를 1차로 제작하여 음압을 측정하였고, 큰 음압을 구현하기 위해 동일한 성능을 가지는 마디지지의 스피커를 60개 배열하여 스피커로서 사용을 검증하였다.

  • Parametric array transducers are used for highly directional speaker in an air environments. Piezoelectric micromachined ultrasonic transducers for parametric array transducers need DC-biased voltage driving signals in order to get high-directional quality-sound features. The existing power amplifier such as class A amplifiers has low efficiency and require large volume heatsinks. To overcome the above-mentioned disadvantages of the conventional amplifier, this paper proposes a new power amplifier system. The proposed power amplifier system ensures high linearity of output characteristic by utilizing the push-pull class B type amplifier. Furthermore, the proposed power amplifier system gets high efficiency because it contains the DC-DC converter-type power supply which can perform energy recovery and envelope tracking function. Also the paper suggests the detailed circuit topology. Its characteristics are verified by the detailed experimental results.
