A nanopatterning technique was proposed and demonstrated for low cost and mass productive process using the scanning probe lithography (SPL) and soft lithography. The nanometer scale structure is fabricated by the localized generation of oxide patterning on the H-passivated (100) silicon wafer, and soft lithography was performed to replicate of nanometer scale structures. Both height and width of the silicon oxidation is linear with the applied voltagein SPL, but the growth of width is more sensitive than that of height. The structure below 100 nm was fabricated using HF treatment. To overcome the structure height limitation, aqueous KOH orientation-dependent etching was performed on the H-passivated (100) silicon wafer. Soft lithography is also performed for the master replication process. Elastomeric stamp is fabricated by the replica molding technique with ultrasonic vibration. We showed that the elastomeric stamp with the depth of 60 nm and the width of 428 nm was acquired using the original master by SPL process.

Laser-generated ultrasonic inspection system is a non-contact scanning inspection device with high spatial resolution and wide bandwidth. The amplitude of laser-generated ultrasound is varied according to the energy of pulse laser and the surface conditions of an object where the CW measuring laser beam is pointing. In this paper, we correct the generating errors by measuring the energy of pulse laser beam and correct the measuring errors by extracting the gain information of laser interferometer at each time. h dynamic stabilizer is developed to stably scan on the surface of an object for an laser-generated ultrasonic inspection system. The developed system generates ultrasound after adaptively finding the maximum gain time of an laser interferometer and processes the signal in real time after digitization with high speed. In this paper, we describe hardware configuration and control algorithm to build a stable laser-generated ultrasonic inspection system. Also, we confirmed through experiments that the proposed correction method for the generating errors and measuring errors is effective to improve the performance of a system.

The ultrasonic non-destructive testing uses the directivity of the ultrasonic pulse wave which propagates in one direction. The directivity is expressed as the relationship between the propagate direction and its sound pressure. The directivity of ultrasonic wave is closely related to determination of probe arrangement, testing sensitivity, scanning pitch and defect location and characterization. The paper measured the directivity of shear wave, which reflected from artificial defect located in weld metal zone in butt welded joint similar model made of pyrex glass by using visualization method. 2 MHz and 4 MHz angle probes were used to measure the directivity of reflection wave at the artificial defect. The directivity of shear waves reflected from the defect was different according to the probe position and the shape of butt welded joint. The difference of directivity of reflection wave was existed between 2 MHz and 4 MHz angle probes. The angle of reflection wave became equal to angle of incidence as increase of the height of excess metal.
We carry out experiments to characterize textured bearing steel with varying hole density and depth. Textured surface is believed to reduce the friction coefficient, and improve performance and wearing caused by third-body contact. We employ three lubrication regime conditions based on the Stribeck curve: boundary lubrication, mixed lubrication, and hydrodynamic lubrication. Ultrasonic machining is an untraditional machining method wherein abrasive grit particles are used. The hammering process on the work piece surface by abrasive provides the desired form. In this study, we create multi-holes on the bearing steel surface for texturing purposes. Holes are formed by an ultrasonic machine with a diameter of 0.534 mm and a depth of about 2-4 mm, and they are distributed on the contact surface with a density between 1.37-2.23%. The hole density over the surface area is an important factor affecting the friction. We test nine types of textured specimens using four times replication and compare them with the untextured specimen using graphs, as well as photographs taken using a scanning electron microscope. We use Analyzes variant in this experiment to find the correlation between each pair of treatments. Finally, we report the effect of hole density and depth on the friction coefficient.

A new treatment of $LiV_3O_8$ has been proposed for improving its electrochemical behavior as a cathode material for secondary lithium batteries. Lithium trivanadate, $LiV_3O_8$, can be prepared in a finely dispersed form by dehydration of aqueous lithium trivanadate gels. The ultrasonic treatment method for Liv30s has been examined in comparison with $LiV_3O_8$ prepared by solutionmethod. The ultrasonically treated products in water were characterized by XRD (X-ray diffractometry), TGA (thermogravimetric analysis) and SEM (scanning electron microscopy). These measurements showed that the ultrasonic treatment process of aqueous $LiV_3O_8$ caused a decrease in crytallinity and considerable increased in specific surface area and interlayer spacing. The product, ultrasonically treated in water for 2 h, showed a high initial discharge capacity and was charge-discharge cycled without large capacity loss. The ultrasonic treated Liv30s can improve not only the specific capacity, but also the cycling behavior
Because the biological tissue with inhomogeneous acoustic properties does not keep a particular shape, the measurement of propagation characteristics of ultrasonic fields by the conventional scanning method with a miniature hydrophone is difficult. In this study, a two-dimensional may hydrophone was fabricated using the PVDF (Polyvinylidene fluoride) piezo-electric film and a ultrasonic field measurement system with it was established. For the acoustic field produced by a circular plan transducer with center frequency of 2.25㎒ and 13㎜ in diameter, it was possible to make a fairly accurate field measurement using the hydrophone system. The attenuation coefficients at 2.25 ㎒ for biological tissues were 0.7∼1.3 dB/cm(average; 1.0 dB/cm) in bovine liver, 1.0∼1.8 dB/cm (average; 1.6 dB/cm) in pig liver, 0.9∼2,9 dB/cm(average: 2.1 dB/cm) in bovine muscles, 1.7∼3.3 dB/cm (average; 2.5 dB/cm) in pig muscles.

Purpose: In this study we evaluated the morphologic aspects of defects created by a piezoelectric ultrasonic scaler with scaler tip on casting gold alloy using scanning electron microscope (SEM) images and defect surface profiles. Methods: 54 blocks of type III casting gold alloy (Firmilay, Jellenko Inc, CA, USA) were scaled by a piezoelectric ultrasonic scaler (P-MAX, Satelec, France) with scaler tip (No. 1 tip) on a sledge device. 2-dimensional profiles of defects on all samples were investigated by a surface profilometer (a-Step 500, KLA-Tencor, CA, USA). The selected working parameters were lateral force (0.5 N, 1.0 N, 2.0 N), mode (P mode, S mode), and power setting (2, 4, 8). SEM images were obtained. Defect surface profiles were made on Microsoft Excel program using data obtained by a surface profilometer. Results: Among P mode samples, there were similarities on defect surface profiles and SEM images regardless of lateral force. The defects created in P mode were narrow and shallow although the depth and the width increased as power setting changed low (2) to high (8). In P mode samples, the defect depth was the greatest when lateral force of 0.5 N was applied. However all the depths were smaller than 1 m. SEM images of Lateral force of 0.5 N, S mode, power setting 2 and 4 were similar to that of P mode, but the other SEM images of S mode showed discernible changes. Defect depth of S mode samples was the greatest when lateral force of 1.0 N was applied. Conclusions: Within the limitations of this study, it can be concoluded that removing capability of piezoelectric scaler with scaler tip becomes maximized as power level becomes higher but the capability is restricted when excessive lateral force is applied on scaler tip.

Objectives: This study evaluated the effect of ultrasonic agitation of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA), calcium silicate-based cement (CSC), and Sealer 26 (S26) on adaptation at the cement/dentin interface and push-out bond strength. Materials and Methods: Sixty maxillary canines were divided into 6 groups (n = 10): MTA, S26, and CSC, with or without ultrasonic activation (US). After obturation, the apical portions of the teeth were sectioned, and retrograde cavities were prepared and filled with cement by hand condensation. In the US groups, the cement was activated for 60 seconds: 30 seconds in the mesio-distal direction and 30 seconds in the buccal-lingual direction, using a mini Irrisonic insert coupled with the ultrasound transducer. After the materials set, 1.5-mm thick sections were obtained from the apexes. The presence of gaps and the bond between cement and dentin were analyzed using low-vacuum scanning electron microscopy. Push-out bond strength was measured using a universal testing machine. Results: Ultrasonic agitation increased the interfacial adaptation of the cements. The S26 US group showed a higher adaptation value than MTA (p < 0.05). US improved the push-out bond strength for all the cements (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The US of retrograde filling cements enhanced the bond to the dentin wall of the root-end filling materials tested.
