  • This paper proposes and experimentally tests a modified circular slot antenna fed by a fork-like tuning stub for ultra-wideband (UWB) operation. The proposed antenna consists of a modified circular slot model and fork-like tuning stub. The proposed antenna is printed on a 34.0 mm × 30.0 mm FR4 substrate with thickness of 1.0 mm and relative permittivity of 4.4. The effect of various parameters of the circular slot and fork-like tuning stub is investigated for UWB operation. The modified circular slot and fork-like tuning stub are fabricated on the substrate to achieve wideband operation and good impedance matching. Experimental results demonstrated that the measured return loss exhibits an acceptable agreement with the simulated return loss and satisfies the -10 dB impedance bandwidth requirement while simultaneously covering the UWB bands. In addition, the proposed antenna shows good radiation characteristics and gains in the UWB bands.

  • In this paper, the CPW-fed Ultra-wideband antenna is designed and fabricated for UWB communications. To achieve ultra-wide bandwidth of the antenna, we propose the mutual coupling of two planar monopole antennas. The mutual coupling of monopole pair of the proposed antenna is optimized by adjusting the parameters, the widths of the planar monopoles and the space between two monopoles. Two UWB antennas with different horizontal sections of the CPW-fed monopole antenna are fabricated and measured to examine the mutual coupling effects on the monopole pair antenna. The measured result show that two antennas are satisfied with UWB communication band(3.1$\sim$10.6Ghz).

  • In this paper, we implemented an Ultra-Wideband radar system using Stripmap Synthetic Apertrure Radar algorithm to recognize objects inside a box. Different window functions such as Hanning, Hamming, Kaiser, and Taylor functions to improve image recognition performance are applied and implemented to radar system. The Ultra-Wideband radar system with 3.1~4.8 GHz broadband and UWB antenna were implemented to recognize the conductor plate located inside 1m3 box. To obtain the image, we use the propagation data in the time domain according to the 1m movement distance and use the Range Doppler algorithm. The effect of different window functions to improve the recognition performance of the image are analyzed. From the compared results, we confirmed that the Kaiser window function can obtain a relatively good image.

  • In this paper, the compressed sensing basic pursuit denoise algorithm adopted to synthetic aperture radar imaging is investigated to improve the object recognition. From the incomplete data sets for image processing, the compressed sensing algorithm had been integrated to recover the data before the conventional back- projection algorithm was involved to obtain the synthetic aperture radar images. This method can lead to the reduction of measurement events while scanning the objects. An ultra-wideband radar scheme using a stripmap synthetic aperture radar algorithm was utilized to detect objects hidden behind the box. The Ultra-Wideband radar system with 3.1~4.8 GHz broadband and UWB antenna were implemented to transmit and receive signal data of two conductive cylinders located inside the paper box. The results confirmed that the images can be reconstructed by using a 30% randomly selected dataset without noticeable distortion compared to the images generated by full data using the conventional back-projection algorithm.

  • A new, systematic, simplified design procedure for quasi-Yagi antennas is presented. The design is based on the simple impedance matching among antenna components: i.e., transition, feed, and antenna. This new antenna design is possible due to the newly developed ultra-wideband transition. As design examples, wideband quasi-Yagi antennas are successfully designed and implemented in Ku- and Ka-bands with frequency bandwidths of 53.2% and 29.1%, and antenna gains of $4{\sim}5 dBi$ and $ 5{\sim}5.6 dBi$, respectively. The design method can be applied to other balanced antennas and their arrays.

  • This paper presents a coplanar waveguide fed L-planar type monopole antenna which covers ultra wideband(UWB) region of 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz. The proposed UWB L-planar type monopole antenna is designed and implemented on the organic substrates( ${\varepsilon}_{r}=3.38,\;@10\;GHz$). The radiation elements, feed line, and ground planes of the antenna are printed on the same conductive layer of the substrates. The bandwidth of the proposed antenna is measured in the range of 3.0 GHz to 11.0 GHz. The measured radiation patterns are symmetrical in E-plane and omni-directional in H-plane. Antenna gains ranges from 1.4 dBi to 4.6 dBi. The proposed UWB antenna shows that the structure is adequate for the design of RFIC.

  • Various antennas have been developed to be used for UWB systems, However, Simultaneously meet omni-directional and low-VSWR requirements, essential for some applications such as UWB channel sounding. In this paper, we propose a novel wide band printed elliptic monopole antenna for UWB(Ultra wide Band). Wideband planar monopole disc antenna have been recently studied. The proposed antenna can cover m frequencies from 3.5GHz to 12GHz. it is determined from 10dB return loss. Antenna radiation pattern is omnidirectional at 3.5GHz - 10GHz. The antenna consists of the printed elliptical monopole disc with microstrip-line feed. Elliptic disc of antenna and ground height operate important to matching. The proposed antenna easy to construct UWB system.

  • In this paper, a compact planar ultra wideband (UWB, 3.1~10.6GHz) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna is proposed. This antenna consists of two monopole planar UWB antennas and T-shaped stub decoupling between two antennas. The T-shaped stub improve the isolation characteristic at the wide band. The evolution strategy(ES) algorithm is employed to optimized design. As a result, optimized antenna has a return loss less than -10dB and the isolation less than -15dB from 3.1GHz to 10.6GHz. During the optimization process, the antenna gain is enhanced at lower band and the envelope correlation coefficient(ECC) is lower than 0.003.

  • In this paper, the method of designing a wideband antenna has been introduced through the design technique that simultaneously employs L- and slot-type feeds. Using the two kinds of feeds and additional fence structure, a compact wideband patch antenna has been realized. The size of the patch has been reduced by about 30 % based on the low frequency(824 MHz) and the full fractional bandwidth is wider than 100 %. The L-feed element is for the EM coupling feeding at the low frequency, while it functions as a feeding line for the power coupling through the slot at the high frequency. The proposed antenna has been designed not only for wideband operations but also for a proper array element with a reduced size. Thus, the foundation for developing the ultra wideband patch array antennas has been prepared. The fabricated antenna has been found to have good characteristics on V.S.W.R and the radiation patterns over the full bands. The experimental and computed results are shown to be in good agreement.
