  • Plate that have cutout inner bottom and girder and floor etc. in hull construction absence is used much, and this is strength in case must be situated, but establish in region that high stress interacts sometimes fatally in region that there is no big problem usually by purpose of weight reduction, a person and change of freight, piping etc.. Because cutout's existence gnaws in this place, and, elastic buckling strength by load causes large effect in ultimate strength. Therefore, perforated plate elastic buckling strength and ultimate strength is one of important design criteria which must examine when decide structural elements size at early structure design step of ship. Therefore, and, reasonable elastic buckling strength about perforated plate need design ultimate strength. Calculated ultimated strength change several aspect ratioes and cutout's dimension, and thickness in this investigation. Used program applied ANSYS F.E.A code based on finite element method.

A Study on Shear Capacity of High Strength Lightweight Reinforced Concrete T-Beams (고강도 경량콘크리트를 사용한 철근콘크리트 T 형보의 전단성능)

  • This paper is an experimental study on shear capacity of the high strength lightweight reinforced concrete beams with shear-depth ratio between 1.5 and 2.5. Thirteen T & rectangular beams were tested to determine their diagonal cracking and ultimate shear capacity. The major variables are shear span-depth ratio (a/d=1.5, 2.0, 2.5), concrete compressive strength(f'c=210, 24., 270㎏/㎠) and tensile steel ratio( =0.6, 1.2%). Based on results obtained from experiment of high strength lightweight reinforced concrete Beam & normal concrete, the following conclusions were drawn. (1) The shear capacity of high-strength lightweight concrete is less 15% than that of normal concrete under same condition. (2) As the results of Comparing this experimental datas with other various formulas. It is regarded that ACI 318-89 shear strength formula related tensile strength is proper to design formula of shear strength of high-strength lightweight reinforced concrete using lightweight concrete.

Predictions of curvature ductility factor of doubly reinforced concrete beams with high strength materials

  • The high strength materials have been more widely used in reinforced concrete structures because of the benefits of the mechanical and durable properties. Generally, it is known that the ductility decreases with an increase in the strength of the materials. In the design of a reinforced concrete beam, both the flexural strength and ductility need to be considered. Especially, when a reinforced concrete structure may be subjected an earthquake, the members need to have a sufficient ductility. So, each design code has specified to provide a consistent level of minimum flexural ductility in seismic design of concrete structures. Therefore, it is necessary to assess accurately the ductility of the beam sections with high strength materials in order to ensure the ductility requirement in design. In this study, the effects of concrete strength, yield strength of reinforcement steel and amount of reinforcement including compression reinforcement on the complete moment-curvature behavior and the curvature ductility factor of doubly reinforcement concrete beam sections have been evaluated and a newly prediction formula for curvature ductility factor of doubly RC beam sections has been developed considering the stress of compression reinforcement at ultimate state. Based on the numerical analysis results, the proposed predictions for the curvature ductility factor are verified by comparisons with other prediction formulas. The proposed formula offers fairly accurate and consistent predictions for curvature ductility factor of doubly reinforced concrete beam sections.

  • Plate girders with variable depths have been often used at piers considering not only the economy but also an aesthetic aspect. Tapered plate girders exhibit more complicated behaviors than prismatic girders especially under shear. However, a comprehensive design method for the determination of the shear strength has yet to be developed mainly due to lack of study. In this study, investigated is the buckling and ultimate behaviors of tapered plate girders subjected to shear through finite element analyses. From the analysis results, a simple design formula is suggested for the evaluation of the shear strength of tapered plate girders.

  • The equation of end bearing capacity is applied differently depending on the type of pile, construction method, and load characteristics considering the construction standards. The bearing capacity equation of the design standard is presented in various ways according to the design conditions such as construction method and ground condition, etc. but, It does not reflect the ground strength according to the SPT-N value of weathered rock. This study analyzed the trend of allowable tip bearing capacity by pile diameter through about 480 dynamic loading tests conducted for the construction/quality management of piles for the last 6 years since 2015. The equation for the ultimate end bearing capacity per unit area according to the SPT-N value is presented. The proposed formula of ultimate end bearing capacity per unit area can be applied in the range of 15,000kN/m2 to 30,000kN/m2. The proposed formula, which complements the existing formula, enables pile design and construction/quality management.

Minimum Thickness of Long-Span RC Deck Slabs for 2-girder Bridges Designed by 80 MPa Concrete (80 MPa급 고강도 콘크리트를 활용한 2거더교 RC 장지간 바닥판의 최소두께)

  • To ensure durability and light weight of bridges, high-strength concrete is required for long-span deck slabs. Such a technology eventually extends the life of bridges and improves the economic efficiency. The results of this study suggests a formula for calculating the minimum thickness of long-span deck slabs built with high strength concrete. The minimum thickness is proposed based on the limit states indicated in the CEB-FIP Model Code and the Korean Highway Bridge Design Code(limit state design). The design compressive strength of concrete used for the study is 80MPa. Moreover, the required thickness for satisfying the flexural capacity and limiting deflection is estimated considering the limit state load combination. The formula for minimum thickness of deck slabs is proposed considering the ultimate limit state(ULS) and the serviceability limit state(SLS) of bridges, and by comparing the Korean Highway Bridge Design Code and similar previous studies. According to the research finding, the minimum thickness of long-span deck slab is more influenced by deflection limit than flexural capacity.

Computational analysis and design formula development for the design of curved plates for ships and offshore structures

  • In general, cylindrically curved plates are used in ships and offshore structures such as wind towers, spa structures, fore and aft side shell plating, and bilge circle parts in merchant vessels. In a number of studies, it has been shown that curvature increases the buckling strength of a plate under compressive loading, and the ultimate load-carrying capacity is also expected to increase. In the present paper, a series of elastic and elastoplastic large deflection analyses were performed using the commercial finite element analysis program (MSC.NASTRAN/PATRAN) in order to clarify and examine the fundamental buckling and collapse behaviors of curved plates subjected to combined axial compression and lateral pressure. On the basis of the numerical results, the effects of curvature, the magnitude of the initial deflection, the slenderness ratio, and the aspect ratio on the characteristics of the buckling and collapse behavior of the curved plates are discussed. On the basis of the calculated results, the design formula was developed to predict the buckling and ultimate strengths of curved plates subjected to combined loads in an analytical manner. The buckling strength behaviors were simulated by performing elastic large deflection analyses. The newly developed formulations were applied in order to perform verification analyses for the curved plates by comparing the numerical results, and then, the usefulness of the proposed method was demonstrated.

  • Ductility is very important parameter in seismic design of RC members such as beams where it allows RC beams to dissipate the seismic energy. In this field, the curvature ductility has taken a large part of interest compared to the deflection ductility. For this reason, the present paper aims to propose a general formula for predicting the deflection ductility factor of RC beams under mid-span load. Firstly, the moment area theorem is used to develop a model in order to calculate the yield and the ultimate deflections; then this model is validated by using some results extracted from previous researches. Secondly, a general formula of deflection ductility factor is written based on the developed deflection expressions. The new formula is depended on curvature ductility factor, beam length, and plastic hinge length. To facilitate the use of this formula, a parametric study on the curvature ductility factor is conducted in order to write it in simple manner without the need for curvature calculations. Therefore, the deflection ductility factor can be directly calculated based on beam length, plastic hinge length, concrete strength, reinforcement ratios, and yield strength of steel reinforcement. Finally, the new formula of deflection ductility factor is compared with the model previously developed based on the moment area theorem. The results show the good performance of the new formula.

  • In this paper, flexure behavior of steel fiber reinforcement ultra high performance cementations composites (SFR-UHPCC) has been analyzed by equivalent stress block. Pulling-out tensile force of steel fiber with concrete matrix was induced. An appropriate flexure evaluation formula, i.e. semi-analytical formula, was established based on rectangular cross section beam for comparing with shear capacity and ultimate load of SFR-UHPCC beam. Finally, the semi-analytical formula has been simplified for the convenience of design work. Experimental results and theoretical shear strength are shown to compare with the formula proposed by this paper. The theory formula has a good prediction of failure type of SFR-UHPCC.

  • The seismic performance of the reinforced concrete (RC) special-shaped column to steel beam connections with steel jacket used in the RC column to steel beam fabricated frame structures was investigated in this study. The three full-scale specimens were subjected to cyclic loading. The failure mode, ultimate bearing capacity, shear strength capacity, stiffness degradation, energy dissipation capacity, and strain distribution of the specimens were studied by varying the steel jacket thickness parameters. Test results indicate that the RC special-shaped column to steel beam connection with steel jacket is reliable and has excellent seismic performance. The hysteresis curve is full and has excellent energy dissipation capacity. The thickness of the steel jacket is an important parameter affecting the seismic performance of the proposed connections, and the shear strength capacity, ductility, and initial stiffness of the specimens improve with the increase in the thickness of the steel jacket. The calculation formula for the shear strength capacity of RC special-shaped column to steel beam connections with steel jacket is proposed on the basis of the experimental results and numerical simulation analysis. The theoretical values of the formula are in good agreement with the experimental values.
