The ship plating is generally subjected to combined in-plane load and lateral pressure loads. In-plane loads include axial load and edge shear, which are mainly induced by overall hull girder bending and torsion of the vessel. Lateral pressure is due to water pressure and cargo. These load components are not always applied simultaneously, but more than one can normally exist and interact Hence, for more rational and safe design of ship structures, it is of crucial importance to better understand the interaction relationship of the buckling and ultimate strength for ship plating under combined loads. Actual ship plates are subjected to relatively small water pressure except for the impact load due to slamming and panting etc. The present paper describes an accurate and fast procedure for analyzing the elastic-plastic large deflection behavior up to the ultimate limit state of ship plates under combined loads. In this paper, the ultimate strength characteristics of plates under axial compressive loads and lateral pressure loads are investigated through ANSYS elastic-plastic large deflection finite element analysis with varying lateral pressure load level.

Recently, the prestressed unbonded concrete structures are increasingly being built. The mechanical behavior of prestressed concrete beams with unbonded tendon is different from that of normal bonded PSC beams in that the increment of tendon stress was derived by whole member behavior. The purpose of the present paper is therefore to evaluate the flexural behavior and to propose the equation of ultimate tendon stress by performing static flexural test according to span/depth, concrete compression strength, reinforcement ratio and the effect of existing bonded tendon. From experimental results, for cracking, yielding and ultimate load, the effect of reinforcement ratio was more effective than concrete compression strength, and the beams having high strength concrete had a good performance than having low concrete, but there was no difference between high strength and low strength. And as L/dp was larger, test beams had a long region of ductility. This means that unbonded tendon has a large contribution after reinforcement yielding. Especially, the equation of ACI-318 was not match with test results and had no correlations. After analysis of test results, the equation of ultimate unbonded tendon stress without slip was proposed, and the proposed equation was well matched with test results. So the proposed equation in this paper will be a effective basis for the evaluation of unbonded tendons without slip, analysis and design.

In order to study ultimate flexure behavior of FRP-concrete composite structures which can replace reinforced concrete structures, ABAQUS, a general purpose analysis program, was utilized for numerical nonlinear analysis of structural performance and behavior characteristics of FRP-concrete composite beams. Explicit nonlinear finite element analysis was conducted and the numerical results were compared with previous experiments. Concrete damaged plasticity model was adopted as material properties of concrete and Euro code was used as compressive stress state. Nonlinear analysis was performed for four different types of FRP-concrete composite beams, and ultimate load and cracking pattern was compared and analyzed. The model suggested in this research was able to simulate ultimate load and cracking pattern properly, it is expected to be utilized in study of precise structural and behavioral characteristics of various FRP-concrete composite structures.

A study for the nonlinear analysis method of RC(Reinforced Concrete) beams with unbonded prestressing CFRP plate is presented. The cross-section of RC beam element is idealized as an assemblage of concrete and reinforcing steel fibers in order to account for varied material properties within the cross-section of the element. The unbonded CFRP plate is modeled as a series of the CFRP plate segments each of which is linked to the RC beam element, but slips without any resistance to simulate the unbonded behavior of the CFRP plate. The stress of each CFRP plate segment is redistributed iteratively using the force equilibrium relationship at each common node until it reaches at the same stress level. To evaluate the validity of the proposed analysis method, the results of ultimate analysis of the reinforced concrete beams with unbonded prestressing CFRP plates are compared with the experimental results obtained from other investigators. The proposed analysis method is found to predict ultimate behaviors of these beams fairly well.

Plate has cutout inner bottom and girder and Door etc. in hull construction absence is used much, and this is strength in case must be situated, but establish in region that high stress interacts sometimes fatally in region that there is no big problem usually by purpose of weight reduction, a person and freight movement, piping etc.. Because cutout‘s existence is positioning in this place, and, elastic bucking strength by load causes large effect in ultimate strength. Therefore, perforated plate elastic bucking strength and ultimate strength is one of important design criteria to decide structural elements size at early structure design step of a ship. Therefore, we need reasonable & reliable design formula for elastic bucking strength of the perforated plate. The author computed numerically ultimate strength change about several aspect ratios, cutout dimension, and plate thickness by using ANSYS Finite element analysis code based on finite element method in this paper.
The strength theory of concrete is significant to structure design and nonlinear finite element analysis of concrete structures because concrete utilized in engineering is usually subject to the action of multi-axial stress. Experimental results have revealed that lightweight aggregate (LWA) concrete exhibits plastic flow plateau under high compressive stress and most of the lightweight aggregates are crushed at this stage. For the purpose of safety, therefore, in the practical application the strength of LWA concrete at the plastic flow plateau stage should be regarded as the ultimate strength under multi-axial compressive stress state. With consideration of the strength criterion, the ultimate strength surface of LWA concrete under multi-axial stress intersects with the hydrostatic stress axis at two different points, which is completely different from that of the normal weight concrete as that the ultimate strength surface is open-ended. As a result, the strength criteria aimed at normal weight concrete do not fit LWA concrete. In the present paper, a multi-axial strength criterion for LWA concrete is proposed based on the Unified Twin-Shear Strength (UTSS) theory developed by Prof Yu (Yu et al. 1992), which takes into account the above strength characteristics of LWA under high compressive stress level. In this strength criterion model, the tensile and compressive meridians as well as the ultimate strength envelopes in deviatoric plane under different hydrostatic stress are established just in terms of a few characteristic stress states, i.e., the uniaxial tensile strength $f_t$, the uniaxial compressive strength $f_c$, and the equibiaxial compressive $f_{bc}$. The developed model was confirmed to agree well with experimental data under different stress ratios of LWA concrete.

A coupled wall consists of two or more reinforced concrete (RC) shear walls (SWs) connected by RC coupling beams (CBs) or steel CBs (hybrid-coupled walls). To fill the gap in the literature on the plastic hinge length of coupled walls, including coupled and hybrid-coupled shear walls, a parametric study using experimentally validated numerical models was conducted considering the axial stress ratio (ASR) and coupling ratio (CR) as the study variables. A total of sixty numerical models, including both coupled and hybrid-coupled SWs, have been developed by varying the ASR and CR within the ranges of 0.027-0.25 and 0.2-0.5, respectively. A detailed analysis was conducted in order to estimate the ultimate drift, ultimate capacity, curvature profile, yielding height, and plastic hinge length of the models. Compared to hybrid-coupled SWs, coupled SWs possess a relatively higher capacity and curvature. Moreover, increasing the ASR changes the walls' behavior to a column-like member which decreases the walls' ultimate drift, ductility, curvature, and plastic hinge length. Increasing the CR of the coupled SWs increases the walls' capacity and the risk of abrupt shear failure but decreases the walls' ductility, ultimate drift and plastic hinge length. However, CR has a negligible effect on hybrid-coupled walls' ultimate drift and moment, curvature profile, yielding height and plastic hinge length. Lastly, using the obtained results two equations were derived as a function of CR and ASR for calculating the plastic hinge length of coupled and hybrid-coupled SWs.
This paper presents six novel hybrid machine learning (ML) models that combine support vector machines (SVM), Decision Tree (DT), Random Forest (RF), Gradient Boosting (GB), extreme gradient boosting (XGB), and categorical gradient boosting (CGB) with the Harris Hawks Optimization (HHO) algorithm. These models, namely HHO-SVM, HHO-DT, HHO-RF, HHO-GB, HHO-XGB, and HHO-CGB, are designed to predict the ultimate strength of both rectangular and circular reinforced concrete (RC) columns. The prediction models are established using a comprehensive database consisting of 325 experimental data for rectangular columns and 172 experimental data for circular columns. The ML model hyperparameters are optimized through a combination of cross-validation technique and the HHO. The performance of the hybrid ML models is evaluated and compared using various metrics, ultimately identifying the HHO-CGB model as the top-performing model for predicting the ultimate shear strength of both rectangular and circular RC columns. The mean R-value and mean a20-index are relatively high, reaching 0.991 and 0.959, respectively, while the mean absolute error and root mean square error are low (10.302 kN and 27.954 kN, respectively). Another comparison is conducted with four existing formulas to further validate the efficiency of the proposed HHO-CGB model. The Shapely Additive Explanations method is applied to analyze the contribution of each variable to the output within the HHO-CGB model, providing insights into the local and global influence of variables. The analysis reveals that the depth of the column, length of the column, and axial loading exert the most significant influence on the ultimate shear strength of RC columns. A user-friendly graphical interface tool is then developed based on the HHO-CGB to facilitate practical and cost-effective usage.
Stiffened steel plates are basic structural members on the deck and bottom structure in ship, offshore. It has a number of one sided stiffeners in either one or both directions, the latter structure was called grillage structure. At the ship structural desgn stage, one of the major consideration is evaluation for ultimate strength of the hull girder. In general, it is accepted that hull girder strength can be represented by the local strength of the longitudinal stiffened panel. In case of considering hogging condition in a stormy sea, stiffened panel was acting on the bottom structure under axial compressive load induced hull girder bending moment, also simultaneously arising local bending moment induced lateral pressure load. In this paper, results of the structural analysis have been compared with another detailed FEA program and prediction from design guideline and a series analysis was conducted consideration of changing parameters for instance, analysis range, cross-section of stiffener, web height and amplitude of lateral pressure load subjected to combined load (axial compression and lateral pressure load). It has been found that finite element modeling is capable of predicting the behaviour and ultimate load capacity of a simply supported stiffened plate subjected to combined load of axial compression and lateral pressure load It is expected that these results will be used to examine the effect of interaction between lateral pressure and axial loads for the ultimate load-carrying capacity based on the Ultimate Limit State design guideline.
A number of perforated plates are utilized for the passage of the crew and the equipment, reducing weight and the arrangement of piping. Hull girders in double bottom and floor plates are the typical parts which have those plates in a ship structure, and the perforated plate is usually positioned at the place which has less loading without local strength problems. In the case of utilizing the plate inevitably at the place which has large strength, an opening of the plate has large effect on the buckling strength due to in-plane rigidity and ultimate strength. Therefore the assessments of the elastic buckling strength and the ultimate strength for the perforated plate are the essential requirements for determining the dimensions of the parts at the initial design stage. With above reason, a need of the reasonable assessments for the elastic buckling strength and the ultimate strength has evolved. The numerical series analysis with the consideration of the effect due to various aspect ratios and slenderness ratios were performed using finite element method in this research. Simple formulas for the design are also proposed from the above analysis.
