Decubitus ulcer is a pressure-induced ulceration of the skin occurring in persons confined to bed for long periods of time. In order to prevent decubitus ulcer, the medical bed mechanism to minimize pressure, friction, and shear forces acting between bed and patient had been developed. Air mattress also can be effective for reducing pressure over bony prominence. In this study, motion analysis was performed to examine whether this bed mechanism functioned properly in case of using air mattress, which was much thicker than common hospital mattress. We found that the patient on the air mattress above the medical bed for preventing decubitus ulcer slipped upward and downward excessively as the general motored-bed. New bed mechanisms were synthesized kinematically using simple 4-bar and 6-bar linkages so as to reduce sliding between the bed and the patient on the air mattress for preventing decubitus ulcer.

In order to study on the effect of Volume of Gastric Juice Free acid, Total acid, and Anti-Ulceration, Jo gi pyeong yoe san Extract were administered to the Pylorus-Ligated Rats induced Shay's Ulcer. The results were as follows. 1. The effect upon Volume of Gastric Juice, Free Acid, and Total Acid of experimenting group with medicine, in contrast with Control Group and Pyeong yoe san Group, there was decreasing that it reveled Significant Value. 2. In the effect upon Shay's Ulcerlation, Jo gi pyeong yoe san Extract were decrease to the Ulcer Index that it reveled Significant Value. 3. Control Group and Pyeong yoe san Group were similar. According to the above results, Jo gi pyeong yoe san is assumed to have Anti-Ulcerlation.

기관지내의 삽관은 전신마취나 인위적인 기도확보를 위해 흔히 시행되며, 그것의 유용성은 재론의 여지가 없다. 그러나 기관내 삽관후에 후두종창 궤양 그리고 육아종이 합병증으로 가끔 생기며 또한 성대마비도 드물게 온다. 최근에 저자들은 충수절제술을 위한 기관삽관마취후에 애성을 동반한 좌측 성대마비를 경험하였기에 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다.

Malignant melanoma of the nasal cavity occurs rarely. Malignant melanoma, originated from the upper respiratory tract including nasal cavity, has clinical feature of local recurrence and easily metastasizes to regional or distant lymph nodes, lung, and liver. Malignant melanoma originated from nasal cavity frequently shows tumor cell invasion, ulceration, or infection. Owing to these characteristics, complete surgical excision of the malignant melanoma in nasal cavity is not easy. And also the prognosis of this tumor is not so good because of a high recurrence rate. Recently the authors have recently experienced a case of malignant melanoma originated from the inferior turbinate, which was treated with lateral rhinectomy, total maxillectomy. The defect developed after surgical extirpation was reconstructed with rotational forehead flap.

DA-125, a new anthracycline derivative, shows significant anticancer activities. We conducted a study to examine the local irritating effect of DA-125 using mice and rabbits. In the skin test in mice, intradermal injection of 0.4 mg of DA-125, compared to a dosage of 0.2 mg of adriamycin, had weak irritating potentials to induce skin ulceration and erythematous induration. A dosage of 0.6 mg of DA-125 produced similar degree of lesions in perivascular irritation model to that of 0.2 mg of adriamycin, but the healing time was shorter in the case of mice treated with DA-125. In ocular irritation study in rabbit, the highest M.O.I.(mean ocular irritation index) of 0.5% DA-125 solution was 0.67, therefore DA-125 could be considered as a practically non-irritating anticancer agent. These results suggest that substitution of DA-125 for Adriamycin would reduces the possibility of outbreaks of local irritation and the severity of the lesions.

Clinically, three holstein dairy cattle showed the inappetence and decrease of milk production with severe lameness and pain. Grossly, strawberry-like proliferation of the skin between the heel bulbs were observed 4${\times}$5${\times}$1.5cm in size. Histopathologically, severe hyperplasia of epidermis, parakeratotic hyperkeratosis and multifocal ulceration of cornified cell layer, acanthosis, spongiosis of prickle cell layer and irregular arrangement of basal cell layer were seen. And focally observed the lesions of necrotic vasculitis, infiltration of inflammatory cells, congestion and hemorrhage. Spirochete bacteria were found in necrotic and outer proliferated epidermal cells by Levaditi's silver stain. Clinical and pathological findings were consistent with dermatitis verrucosa.

A 94-year-old female with end-stage renal disease presents with fever, fatigue, and hematochezia. She had previously resided in Hunan Province, China, and Myanmar, and she immigrated to Taiwan 30 years ago. Colonoscopy revealed a colonic ulcer. Biopsy of the colonic ulcer showed ulceration of the colonic mucosa, and many Paragonimus westermani-like eggs were noted. Serum IgG antibody levels showed strong reactivity with P. westermani excretory-secretory antigens by ELISA. Intestinal paragonimiasis was thus diagnosed according to the morphology of the eggs and serologic finding. After treatment with praziquantel, hematochezia resolved. The present case illustrates the extreme manifestations encountered in severe intestinal paragonimiasis.

A 56 years old woman referred to our hospital with dysphagia and epigastric soreness. Gastroendoscopy revealed huge submucosal tumor with ulceration extending from distal esophagus to lesser curvature of stomach. Subsequent computed tomography(CT) demonstrated soft tissue mass encircling distal esophagus, and 18F-FDG PET/CT demonstrated intense $^{18}F-FDG$ accumulation in it. Finally this case was diagnosed as esophageal leiomyoma based on pathologic evaluation of the surgical specimen.

Primary hryperparathyroidism is a relatively rare disease entity in Korea. It's characterized by severe skeletal and renal changes due to hypersecretion of parathyroid hormone, and rarely shows peptic ulceration, hypertension, pancreatitis and impaired mentality. Recently the determination of the serum calcium level has become a routine laboratory test and the awareness of primary hyperparathyroidism has been incerased, the disease is being diagnosed with increasing frequency. Primary hyperparathyroidism is most commonly caused by parathyroid adenoma and rarely hyperplasia, cancer of parathyroid glands. The authors operated sucessfully a case of primary parathyroid adenoma by diagnosed by nuclear medical diagnostic work-up. The patient had anterior neck mass(soft, non tender nodule) on physical examination, multiple goiter on thyroid ultrasonogram and scan. The parathyroid lesion was difficult to find preoperatively.

In oriental medicine, Artemisiae asiatica (AA) has been used as analgesic, antiinflammatory agent, and coagulatory agent. Furthermore, eupatilin, a kind of flavonoids, is known as the active principle component of AA. This study was undertaken to determine the gastric antiulceration of AA and to elucidate its mechanism. AA showed the inhibitory effect on gastric ulceration induced by EtOH/HCl and aspirin. To elucidate its mechanism, the effect of AA on lipidperoxide level in gastric mucosa, microsome lipidperoxidation, iron -dependent lipidperoxidation, and neutrophil activation were examined. It is suggested that the antiperoxidative and antineutrophil activity of AA play important roles as a possible mechanism. These results suggest that AA might have gastric antiulceration activity due to antilipidperoxdative and antineutrophil activity.
