  • In this paper, a wideband loop antenna for UWB applications is studied. The structure of the proposed wideband loop antenna is a circular loop antenna with appended circular sectors to obtain an ultra-wideband characteristic. The circular sectors are used instead of conventional triangular sectors to match with the 50 ohm feed line. Optimal design parameters are obtained by analyzing the effects of the gap between the circular sectors and the radius of the circular loop on the input reflection coefficient and gain characteristics. The optimized wideband loop antenna is fabricated on an FR4 substrate with a dimension of 41 mm by 41 mm. Experiment results show that the proposed antenna has a frequency band of 3.1-11.0 GHz for a VSWR < 2.25, which assures the operation in the UWB band. Measured gain ranges 1.3-5.3 dBi in the UWB band.

  • In this paper, we proposed a planar reversed triangle monopole antenna for UWB(Ultra Wideband) communication. RF-60A substrate of 0.64 mm thickness and 6.15 relative permitivity and 0.035 mm conductor of thickness and loss tangent 0.0025 is used for implementation. We have used Ansoft $HFSS^{TM}$(High Frequency Structure Simulator) to simulate the proposed antenna. The proposed antenna showed return losses about -10 dB, nearly omni-directional radiation patterns and maximum gains are over -5 dBi at the frequency band from 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz for ultra wide band communication.

Radiation parts of the antenna have exponential curve and fed by strip feeding network. We have used the HFSS of Ansoft to simulate the antenna. It was designed to work on a substrate Teflon of thickness 1.575mm and relative permittivity 3.2. The proposed antenna covered the entire UWB band( 3.1GHz $\sim$ 10.6GHz ) for S11$\leq$l0dB. Also the proposed antenna show a good characteristics, linear phase, omni -directional pattern lot UWB applications. Besides the measured results have a reasonable agreement with the simulated results.

  • A novel compact pattern diversity slot antenna for ultra-wideband (UWB) and Bluetooth applications is presented. This antenna consists of two modified coplanar waveguides that feed staircase-shaped radiating elements, wherein two different fork-like stubs are placed at the $45{\circ}$ axis. The measured results show that this proposed antenna operates from 2.3 GHz to 12.5 GHz, covering Bluetooth, WLAN, WiMAX, and UWB. The performance of radiation patterns and the corresponding envelope correlation coefficient prove this antenna is suitable for MIMO/diversity systems. Also, the antenna's compact size makes it a good candidate for portable devices.

  • In this paper, a compact antenna with band-rejected characteristic for Ultra-Wideband(UWB) applications is proposed. The designed antenna not only shows sufficient impedance bandwidth but has band-rejected characteristic for the frequency band of 5.15~5.825GHz limited by IEEE 802.11a and HIPERLAN/2. To obtain both properties of wideband band rejection, the techniques of a partial ground plane and embedded thin U-slot into planar radiator are used respectively. A designed antenna satisfied a VSWR less than 2:1 for the frequency band of 3.1~10.3GHz with band rejection of 4.90~5.92GHz.

  • This contribution focuses on the maximum likelihood (ML) noncoherent synchronization of multi-antenna transceivers working in faded environments and employing ultra-wideband impulse radio (UWB-IR) transmit technology. In particular, the Cramer-Rao bound (CRB) is derived for the general case of multiple input multiple output (MIMO) UWB-IR systems and used to compare the ultimate performance of three basic transmit schemes, thereinafter referred to as single input multiple output (SIMO), MIMO equal signaling (MIMO-ES), and MIMO orthogonal signaling (MIMO-OS) ones. Thus, the noncoherent ML synchronizer is developed for the better performing transmit scheme (i.e., the SIMO one) and its performance is evaluated under both signal acquisition and tracking operating conditions. The performance gain in the synchronization of UWB- IR signals arising by the utilization of the multi-antenna technology is also evaluated.

  • A microstrip feedline based open ended folded-slot antenna is proposed for ultra-wideband (UWB) applications. The prototype of the proposed antenna is fabricated on the FR4 dielectric substrate. The proposed antenna has a wide n-shaped slot that is useful for designing circuit components on the same printed circuit board (PCB) as that of the radio frequency (RF) modules. The proposed antenna use two kinds of slots as radiators, and each slots have different characteristics because of the different type of ends of the slot. The wideband characteristic can be obtained by resonances of each slot which are occurred at different frequencies. The measured impedance bandwidth (S11≤ -10 dB) is 2.9-11.56 GHz, and the antenna peak gain is 2-4 dBi over the UWB range. The antenna has a stable omni-directional radiation pattern and only a small group-delay variation across the UWB passband. In addition, we present a modified design with band-notched characteristics of a 5 GHz wireless local area network (WLAN) frequency band.

  • This paper describes an ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna that uses a ring resonator concept. The proposed antenna can operate in the entire UWB, and the IEEE 802.11a frequency band can be rejected by inserting a notch stub into the ring resonator. The experiment results indicate that the measured impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna is 17.5 GHz (2.5 GHz to at least 20 GHz). The proposed UWB antenna has omnidirectional radiation patterns with a gain variation of 3 dBi (1 dBi to 4 dBi).

  • In this study, we develop and experimentally evaluate an ultra-wideband (UWB) slot antenna with a polygon tuning stub. The proposed antenna consists of a polygon slot with a $50-{\Omega}$ feed line. The effects of various parameters of the polygon-shaped slot and the polygon tuning stub on UWB applications are investigated. The optimum parameters were obtained using the Ansys HFSS software. The results of the studies on the surface current distributions of the operating frequency bands were discussed. The proposed antenna is fabricated on an inexpensive FR-4 substrate with the overall dimensions of $28.0mm{\times}30.0mm$. The measured results confirm that the proposed antenna covers frequencies from 2.58 GHz to 13.27 GHz, which is the UWB frequency range. Further, the proposed UWB antenna also exhibited that omni-directionality in the H-plane gain varied from 1.185 to 7.246 dBi. The good antenna characteristics of the proposed antenna make it suitable for UWB system applications.

  • This paper proposes and experimentally tests a modified circular slot antenna fed by a fork-like tuning stub for ultra-wideband (UWB) operation. The proposed antenna consists of a modified circular slot model and fork-like tuning stub. The proposed antenna is printed on a 34.0 mm × 30.0 mm FR4 substrate with thickness of 1.0 mm and relative permittivity of 4.4. The effect of various parameters of the circular slot and fork-like tuning stub is investigated for UWB operation. The modified circular slot and fork-like tuning stub are fabricated on the substrate to achieve wideband operation and good impedance matching. Experimental results demonstrated that the measured return loss exhibits an acceptable agreement with the simulated return loss and satisfies the -10 dB impedance bandwidth requirement while simultaneously covering the UWB bands. In addition, the proposed antenna shows good radiation characteristics and gains in the UWB bands.
