  • In this study, application of SAM (self-assembled monolayer) to nano replication process as an anti-adhesion layer was presented to reduce the surface energy between the nano mold and the replicated polymeric nano patterns. The electron beam lithography was used for master nano patterns and the electorforming process was used to fabricate the nickel nano stamper. Alkanethiol SAM as an anti-adhesion layer was deposited on metallic nano stamper using solution deposition method. To analyze wettability and adhesion force of SAM, contact angle and LFM (Lateral Force Microscopy) were measured at the actual processing temperature and pressure for the case of nano compression molding and at the actual UV dose for the case of nano UV molding. It was found that the surface energy due to SAM deposition on the nickel nano stamper markedly decreased and the quality of SAM on the nickel stamper maintained under the actual molding environments.

  • The UV curing method is a popular process for lens molding on a unit wafer. This process, however, has several drawbacks including wafer adhesion during the ejection process after curing, errors in lens shape and wafer warpage due to material shrinkage during the curing process, and lens centering errors on both sides of a wafer. Among these, the lens shape error and warpage are influenced directly by the UV curing process due to factors including the UV radiation uniformity, the degree of cure according to UV intensity, and the shrinkage characteristics of the material. Therefore, a theory is needed not only to understand the change in the material characteristics, such as the shrinkage rate due to the curing reaction, but also to establish a model. In addition, an analysis system is needed to realize the model. This study proposes a new analysis method for the wafer lens molding process by Comsol modeling. This method was verified by comparing the results with those of the actual process.

  • Light Guide Plate (LGP) of LCD-BLU(Back Light Unit) is manufactured by forming optical pattern with $5\~100um$ in diameter on the LGP by means of sand blasting or etching method. However, in order to improve the luminance of LCD-LGP, the design of optical pattern has introduced UV inclined-exposure process in this study. This micro-optical pattern, which has asymmetric elliptical column shaped pattern, can change low viewing-angle to high viewing-angle, as well as it contribute to diffusion of light. As a result, this type of micro-optical pattern can introduce the highly luminance. The PR structure obtained in the stage of lithography has asymmetric elliptical column shape and it is processed into a micro-optical pattern. Optical design with this kind of micro-optical pattern, mold fabrication by electroplating and LGP molding with injection molding are under way.

  • Recently, many researches on the development of super-hydrophobic surface have been concentrated on the fabrication of nano-patterned products. Nano-patterned mold is a key to replicate nano-patterned products by mass production process such as injection molding and UV molding. The present paper proposes the new fabricating method of nano-patterned mold at low cost. The nano-patterned mold was fabricated by electroforming the anodic aluminum oxide membrane filled with UV curable resin in nano-hole by capillary phenomenon. As a result, the final mold with nano-patterns which have the holes with the diameter of 100~200 nm was fabricated. Furthermore, the UV-molded products with clear nano- patterns which have the pillars with the diameter of 100~200nm were achieved.

  • In this paper, we describe a simple, precise and low cost method of fabricating PDMS stamp for UV embossing. It is important to improve the replication quality of stamp because the accuracy of fabricated structure is related to that of the stamp in UV embossing. The PDMS stamp has been fabricated by the replica molding technology with ultrasonic vibration to eliminate micro-air bubbles during the fabrication process of PDMS stamp. Also, this fabrication to use ultrasonic vibration promotes PDMS solution to fill into micro channel and edge parts. We report the fabrication of an optical core using UV embossing with fabricated PDMS stamp. This fabricated core is $7\;\mu{m}\;at\;depth,\;6\;\mu{m}\;at\;width.\;This\;measured\;value\;has\;the\;difference\;below\;1\;\mu{m}$compared to the original stamp. The surface roughness of core is about 14 nm root mean square. This is satisfactory value to use low-loss optical waveguide. Our successful demonstration of precise replica technology presents an alternative approach for the stamp of UV embossing.

  • With increasing demands for large-scale micro-optical components in the field of digital display, the establishment of large-scale fabrication technology fur polymeric patterns has become a priority. The starting point of any polymer replication process is the mold, and the mold often has flat surface. However, It is very hard to replicate large-scale micro patterns using the flat mold, because the cost of large-scale flat mold was very high, and some uniformity and releasing problems were often occurred in large scale flat molding process. In this study, a UV roll imprinting system to overcome the financial and fabrication issues of large-scale pattern replication process was designed and constructed. As a practical example of the system, a lenticular lens with radius of curvature of $223{\mu}m$ and pitch of $280{\mu}m$, which was used to provide wide viewing angle in projection TV, was designed and fabricated. The roll stamper was fabricated using direct machining process of aluminum roll base. Finally, the shape accuracy and uniformity of roll imprinted lenticular lens sheet were measured and analyzed.

  • Fresnel lens is a kind of refractive optical lens with various advantages. It has nearly flat shaped optical lens that has small mass. Fresnel lens has number of applications in the compact optical systems. Recently, demands of high quality Fresnel lens for small size optical systems such as illumination units, compact imaging systems, display units, information storage systems, optical detecting units had increased rapidly. Conventional manufacturing process of high quality Fresnel lens is direct machining. However, it is not suitable for mass production because of high cost and long cycle time. Replication method can provide cost effective mass production process. However, there are various issues about replication of Fresnel lens. Fresnel lens has number of sharp blade shape prism. In the replication process, this blade shape causes defects that can affect optical efficiency. In this study, replication processes; injection molding process and UV imprinting process, were developed and evaluated using Fresnel lens that has maximum pattern height of $250\;{\mu}m$ and aspect ratio of 1.5.

  • We report a new method of fabrication of polydiacetylene nanowire using liquid bridge-mediated nanotransfer molding (LB-nTM), a direct patterning method for the formation of two- or three-dimensional structures with feature sizes between tens of nanometers and tens of micron over large areas with various materials from a molder to a substrate via a liquid bridge between them. First, we fabricate assembled diacetylene monomer nanowire on the substrate then make it polymerize using 254nm UV-light irradiation. The Polydiacetylene nanowires have been investigated by UV-visible absorption spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy (AFM), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
