We fabricated thermally evaporated 10 nm-Ni/1 nm-Ir/(poly)Si films to investigate the energy saving property of silicides formed by rapid thermal annealing (RTA) at the temperature range of $300{\sim}1200^{\circ}C$ for 40 seconds. Moreover, we fabricated 100 nm-thick ITO/(poly)Si films with an rf-sputter as references. A transmission electron microscope (TEM) and an X-ray diffractometer were used to determine cross-sectional microstructure and phase changes. A UV-VIS-NIR and FT-IR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy) were employed for near-IR and middle-IR absorbance. Through TEM analysis, we confirmed 20~65 nm-thick silicide layers formed on the single and polycrystalline silicon substrates. Ir-inserted nickel silicide on single crystalline substrate showed almost the same absorbance in near IR region as well as ITO, but Ir-inserted nickel silicide on polycrystalline substrate, which had the uniform absorbance in specific region, showed better absorbance in near IR region than ITO. The Ir-inserted nickel silicide on polycrystalline substrate particularly showed better absorbance in middle IR region than ITO. The results imply that nano-thick Ir-inserted nickel silicides may have excellent absorbing capacity in near-IR and middle-IR region.
A mass balance method for purity assessment of thermolabile organic reference materials was established by combining several techniques, including liquid chromatography with UV/VIS detector (LC-UV), Karl-Fischer (K-F) Coulometry, and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). This method was applied to three fluoroquinolones like enrofloxacin, norfloxacin and ciprofloxacin. LC-UV was used to analyze structurally related organic impurities based on UV/VIS absorbance spectra obtained in combination with LC separation. For all three organic reference materials, the UV/VIS spectra of the separated impurities were similar to that of the major component of the corresponding materials. This indicates that the impurities are structurally related to the respective reference material sharing common chromophores. Impurities could be quantified by comparing their absorbances at the wavelength of maximum absorbance (${\lambda}_{max}$). The water contents of the reference materials were measured by K-F Coulometry by an oven-drying method. The total inorganic impurities contents were assayed from ash residues in TGA analysis with using air as a reagent gas. The final purities estimated from results of those analytical techniques were assigned as ($99.91{\pm}0.06$), ($97.09{\pm}0.17$) and ($91.85{\pm}0.17$)% (kg/kg) for enrofloxacin, norfloxacin and ciprofloxacin, respectively. The assigned final purities would be applied to the reference materials which will be used as calibrators for the certification of those compounds in matrix CRMs as starting points for the traceability of their certified values to SI units.
In this research, ultra-thin films of organic charge transfer complex were deposited on to ordinary microscope slide-glass subtrates with a Langmuir-Blodgett technique. ${\pi}$-A isotherm characteristics of these complex were studied in order to find optimum conditions of deposition by varying temperature of subphase, compression speed, and spreading amount. Transfer ratio of these films were studied during the process of deposition. The UV-visible absorbance spectra of LB films were measured to find state of deposition by varing layer number. The observed optimum conditions of surface, pressure, spreading amount, and dipping speed for depositing LB films(Y-type) were 38m/Nm, $150{\mu}l$ and 5mm/min, respectively. Since the tansfer ratio is close to 100%, the monolayer on the subphase seems to be well transferred to the solid substrate. The thickness of the film was well-controlled as the UV-vis absorbance of films were changed linear according to the number of layers.
The purpose of this research was to investigate the color characteristic and the dyeing properties of Glycyrrhizae Radix extract on cotton fabrics. The highest absorbance of Glycyrrhizae Radix extract was obtained in 75 v/v% of ethyl alcohol in water. Pre-mordanted cotton fabrics dyed at $30^{\circ}C$ and pH 3 for 80 minutes showed the highest K/S value. According to the dyeing conditions, the colors of the fabrics varied from yellow(Y) and yellowish red(YR) to greenish yellow(GY). The color fastness of the fabrics in dry-cleaning and water was 4~5 rating. The deodorization capacity and UV-cut effect of the dyed fabrics were higher than those of undyed ones.
Progesterone immunogen has been synthesized and its melting point, Rf-value, UV and IR spectrum have been measured to develope the essential step in antisera production against low molecular weight substance. Mixed anhydride reaction was used to conjugate $11{\alpha}$-hydroxy-progesterone with succinic anhydride. Melting point of one intermediate compound was $156^{\circ}C$, and Rf-value was 0.41 in benzene : acetone : methanol (5 : 5 : 2). Maximum absorbance was measured at 242nm and ${\varepsilon}$ was $1.641{\times}10^4cm^2/mole$. Loss of hydroxy group was observed at 3450nm, and carbonyl group was appeared at 1160nm, 1250nm and 2960nm. These results indicated that the intermediate compound was progesterone hemisuccinate. Maximum absorbance of progesterone bovine-serum albumin(BSA) conjugate was observed at 250nm. Molar ratio of progesterone to BSA was average 15.4 on UV spectrum.
Many isolated featureless domains were explicitly observed even at the air-water interface. We measured the surface pressure shift originating from the photo-isomerization of azobenzene units on the periphery of dendrimers. The maximum surface pressure was gradual1y increased and saturated by cyclic compression and decompression. By irradiation of 365 [nm] light, the surface pressure was increased, which was originated by the photo-isomerization process of the azobenzene group on the periphery from trans to cia form. The increase of the dipole moment ($\mu$), which may increase the interaction among Azo dendrimer molecules, made an important role on surface pressure shift. From the absorbance spectrum by UV irradiation and heat treatment, we can see that the absorbance in the UV region decreases with the increase of the UV irradiation time, but the peak at 350 m, characteristic of dendrimers in the LB monolayers, was not shifted until four irradiation cycles. This suggests that optical behavior and morphological change are affected by the functional group and the symmetric chain.
Electrochemical degradation of phenol was evaluated at DSA (dimensionally stable anode), JP202 (Ru, 25%; Ir, 25%; other, 50%) electrode for being a treatment method in non-biodegradable organic compounds such as phenol. Experiments were conducted to examine the effects of applied current (1.0~4.0 A), electrolyte type (NaCl, KCl, $Na_2SO_4$, $H_2SO_4$) and concentration (0.5~3.0 g/L), initial phenol concentration (12.5~100.0 mg/L) on phenol degradation and $UV_{254}$ absorbance as indirect indicator of by-product degraded phenol. It was found that phenol concentration decreased from around 50 mg/L to zero after 10 min of electrolysis with 2.5 g/L NaCl as supporting electrolyte at the current of 3.5 A. Although phenol could be completely electrochemical degraded by JP202 anode, the degradation of phenol COD was required oxidation time over 60 min due to the generation of by-products. $UV_{254}$ absorbance can see the impact of as an indirect indicator of the creation and destruction of by-product. The initial removal rate of phenol is 5.63 times faster than the initial COD removal rate.
Decomposition of non-biodegradable contaminants such as phenol contained in water was investigated using a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma reactor in the aqueous solutions with continuous oxygen bubbling. Effects of various parameters on the removal of phenol in aqueous solution with high-voltage streamer discharge plasma are studied. In order to choose plasma gas, gas of three types (argon, air, oxygen) were investigated. After the selection of gas, effects of 1st voltage (80 ~ 220 V), oxygen flow rate (2 ~ 7 L/min), pH (3 ~ 11), and initial phenol concentration (12.5 ~ 100.0 mg/L) on phenol degradation and change of $UV_{254}$ absorbance were investigated. Absorbance of $UV_{254}$ can be used as an indirect indicator of phenol degradation and the generation and disappearance of the non-biodegradable organic compounds. Removal of phenol and COD were found to follow pseudo first-order kinetics. The removal rate constants for phenol and COD of phenol were $5.204{\times}10^{-1}min^{-1}$ and $3.26{\times}10^{-2}min^{-1}$, respectively.

InP quantum dot (QD)-organosilicon nanocomposites were synthesized and their photoluminescence quenching was mainly investigated because of their applicability to white LEDs (light emitting diodes). The as-synthesized InP QDs are capped with myristic acid (MA), which are incompatible with typical silicone encapsulants. We have introduced a new ligand, 3-aminopropyldimethylsilane (APDMS), which enables embedding the QDs into vinyl-functionalized silicones through direct chemical bonding. The exchange of ligand from MA to APDMS does not significantly affect the UV absorbance of the InP QDs, but quenches the PL to about 10% of its original value with the relative increase in surface related emission intensities, which is explained by stronger coordination of the APDMS ligands to the surface indium atoms. InP QD-organosilicon nanocomposites were synthesized by connecting the QDs using a short cross-linker such as 1,4-divinyltetramethylsilylethane (DVMSE) by the hydrosilylation reaction. The formation and changes in the optical properties of the InP QD-organosilicon nanocomposite were monitored by ultraviolet visible (UV-vis) absorbance and steady state photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopies. As the hydrosilylation reaction proceeds, the QD-organosilicon nanocomposite is formed and grows in size, causing an increase in the UV-vis absorbance due to the scattering effect. At the same time, the PL spectrum is red-shifted and, very interestingly, the PL is quenched gradually. Three PL quenching mechanisms are regarded as strong candidates for the PL quenching of the QD nanocomposites, namely the scattering effect, F$\ddot{o}$rster resonance energy transfer (FRET) and cross-linker tension preventing the QD's surface relaxation.
The physicochemical properties of crystalline titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs) were investigated by comparing amorphous (amTiO2), anatase (aTiO2), metaphase of anatase-rutile (arTiO2), and rutile (rTiO2) NPs, which were prepared at various calcination temperatures (100℃, 400℃, 600℃, and 900℃). X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyses confirmed that the phase-transformed TiO2 had the characteristic features of crystallinity and average size. The surface chemical properties of the crystalline phases were different in the spectral analysis. As anatase transformed to the rutile phase, the band of the hydroxyl group at 3,600-3,100 cm-1 decreased gradually, as assessed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). For ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectra, the maximum absorbance of anatase TiO2 NPs at 309 nm was blue-shifted to 290 nm at the rutile phase with reduced absorbance. Under the electric field of capillary electrophoresis (CE), TiO2 NPs in anatase migrated and detected as a broaden peak, whereas the rutile NPs did not. In addition, anatase showed the highest photocatalytic activity in an UV-irradiated dye degradation assay in the following order: aTiO2 > arTiO2 > rTiO2. Overall, the phases of TiO2 NPs showed characteristic physicochemical properties regarding size, surface chemical properties, UV absorbance, CE migration, and photocatalytic activity.
