Heterogeneous Photocatalytic Bleaching of Methyl Orange (광화학반응을 이용한 메틸오렌지의 탈색)

  • This work wes performed to investigate the photocatalytic decolorization of waste water from textile industries. Methyl orange was used as a target dye with suspended Hombikat TiO$_2$ photocatalyst with a recirculating annular photoreactor. 1 wt % Pt-doped Hombikat thin film tubular reactor with parabolic reflector also wes usedin this experiment. The pH effect and flow rate effect on photobleaching of 0.012 g/l methyl orange solution, AtpH=3 Colour of methyl orange was completely bleached in 30 min with a 20 W UV lamp.

  • 이번 연구에서는 저온 용액공정을 이용하여p-type 반도체로 많이 사용되고 있는 $Cu_xS$를 기판 위에 증착하여 그 특성을 분석하였다. $Cu_xS$는 x의 값에 따라 다섯가지의 결정구조를 가지는데 CuS, $Cu_{1.75}S$, $Cu_{1.8}S$, $Cu_{1.95}S$, $Cu_2S$ 들이 그것이다. 태양전지에서 p형 반도체로 중요한 역할을 담당하고 있는 $Cu_xS$는 cell에서 사용되었을 때 energy bandgap이 1.2-2.5eV일 때 가장 좋은 특성을 나타낸다. 이번 연구에서는 특히 조성에 따라서 물리적, 광학적으로 어떤 특성을 나타내는지에 대하여 XRD, SEM, Uv-vis 등의 분석을 해보았다. XRD의 경우 농도가 높아질수록 peak의 intensity는 커지지만 어느 농도 이상부터는 Cu가 Oxide화 되는 것을 관찰할 수 있었다. SEM image의 경우에는 조성에 따른 포면의 상태를 분석해보았다. 조성에 따른energy bandgap을 알아보기 위해서는 Uv-vis을 측정하였으며 이를 이용하여 증착된 박막의 투과도 역시 함께 분석해보았다.

High-energy Proton Irradiated Few Layer Graphene Devices (고에너지 양성자에 의해 결함을 증가시킨 그래핀 소자의 전기적 특성 변화 연구)

  • High energy proton irradiations were performed on graphene devices to increase the number of defects intentionally. Proton energy and fluence were 6 MeV and $5{\times}10^{15}\;cm^{-2}$, respectively. The defects in few layer graphene layer created by proton irradiations captured oxygen molecules that acted as p-type dopants. After the vacuum annealing, hole mobility was enhanced by the recovery of the defects and the desorption of the oxygen molecules. However, the drain current decreased after vacuum annealing due to the removal of the dopant molecules.

Synthesis and Characterization of 2, 6-Di-(4'-Methyl Phenyl) Pyrylium Fluoroborate and Perchlorate in Single Step Salts Using 4'-Methyl Acetophenone

  • Due to its high conductivity, pyrylium has been frequently used in electron transfer reactions or in the synthesis of various organic materials. It has also been used as a sensor material. Traditionally, the compounds have been synthesized using various methods; mostly in a multiple steps. In this study, two pyrylium salts, 2, 6-di-(4'-methylphenyl) pyrylium fluoroborate and perchlorate were synthesized. The synthesis of these products was confirmed by 1H-NMR, LC/TOF-MS and FT-IR analyses while their photo-properties were analyzed using UV/VIS spectrophotometry. In addition, the electron transfer capacities of the salts were analyzed with a conductivity meter, it was found that their electron conductivities were high. When the synthesized compounds were dissolved in acetone, a green fluorescent material was observed to form. The fluorescent material can be used as a sensitizer in the electrical industry.

A Study on properties of a-Si:H layers by photoelectron spectroscopic (a-Si:H 분광스펙트럼 특성연구)

  • We report on a detailed study on gap-state distribution in thin amorphous silicon layers(a-Si:H) with film thickness between 5 nm and 20 nm c-Si wafers performed by UV excited photoelectron spectroscopy(UV-PES). We measured how the work function, the gap state density, the position of the Fermi-level and the Urbch-energy depend on the layer thickness and the doping level of the ultra thin a-Si:H(n) layer. It was found, that for phosphorous doping the position of the Fermi level saturates at $E_F-E_V$=1.47 eV. This is achieved at a gas phase concentration of 10000 ppm $PH_3$ in the $SiH_4/H_2$ mixture which was used for the PECVD deposition process. The variation of the doping level from 0 to 20000 ppm $PH_3$ addition results in an increase of the Urbach energy from 65 meV to 101 meV and in an increase of the gap state density at midgap($E_i-E_V$=0.86eV) from $3{\times}10^{18}$ to $2{\times}1019cm^{-3}eV^{-1}$.

Synthesis and Characterization of Soluble Polyaniline and TiO2 Composite

  • Soluble polyaniline was synthesized by attaching titanium isoproxide ($Ti(OPr)_4$) to the amine group of the aniline. Approximately 1 to 1 molar ratio of aniline and $Ti(OPr)_4$ was mixed and polymerized with ammonium persulfate. The FTIR result showed clear difference between $TiO_2$-aniline composite ($TiO_2An$) and $TiO_2$-polyaniline composite ($TiO_2PAn$). Although the $TiO_2An$ had negligible UV-visible absorption, the $TiO_2PAn$ showed strong absorption in the UV-visible region. Photoluminescence (PL) peaks of $TiO_2An$ were shifted toward red with the reduction of the excitation energy, which could be due to the multiple emission centers. The luminescence peak shift stopped at 501 nm. The PL spectra of $TiO_2PAn$ exhibited three emission peaks at 2.88 eV (430 nm), 2.48 eV (501 nm) and 2.22 eV (558 nm). The new emission center (2.22 eV) was observed after polymerization. Field emission scanning electron microscope image showed crack-free composite film.

  • Radiative charaacteristics of glass windows and porous absorbing media which can be used for a solar air heater are determined through the measurements of spectral transmittances. Those in the visible range are measured by the UV-IR spectrometer. Refractive index of glass are obtained by the comparison of the measured transmittances and the correlations derived from the electromagnetic theory and are compared to the theoretical ones calculated from the classical dispersion theory. Absorption and back-scattering coefficients of 15-mesh stainless wire screens are calcuated by the comparison of the measured transmittances and the correlations derived from the two flux model.

  • Blood soil and the mixture of blood soil, elvan soil and, silica soil materials were molded, then they were sintered in $1100^{\circ}C$ and were used for the emission of the far infrared ray boll. The emission from the manufactured bolls was relatively high in the range of $8{\sim}12{\mu}m$ wavelength each. The elution of minerals from mixture bolls was very low, but the elimination of heavy metal cadmium ion in activated water and energy water treated with mixture bolls was very high. Activated water and energy water had a high to the UV protected ability in comparison to drinking water.

  • Rainwater harvesting is a process by which rainwater collected from rooftop or other catchment is purified so that the water can be directly or indirectly used by human beings for beneficial uses. As rainwater is increasingly considered for high quality purposes, membranes have gained an important place in rainwater treatment. It has advantages such as the production of high quality water, small footprint, and affordable energy consumption. Nevertheless, membrane fouling is regarded as a serious problem similar to the cases of water treatment and wastewater reclamation. In this study, we applied microfiltration (MF) membranes for rainwater treatment. In addition, a low pressure ultraviolet (UV) process was also use as a pretreatment to control notonly. To quantify the effect of UV on organic matters, both total organic carbon (TOC) and UV absorbance (UVA) were measured. Moreover, the effect of UV pretreatment on membrane fouling was investigated. Experimental results indicated that the pretreatment of membranes using LPUV was effective to control fouling of MF membranes only when the rainwater was contaminated by algae. This was attributed the reduction and modification of organics after UV treatments. It is likely that the UV/MF process is a promising option for water treatment in decentralized water treatment such as micro water grid systems.

A Study on the Fabrication and Physical Properties of $Ca_2SiO_4$:La Thermoluminescent Phosphors ($Ca_2SiO_4$: La 열형광체 제작과 물리적 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The $Ca_2SiO_4$ phosphors doped by La with 0.1 wt%, 0.3 wt%, 0.5 wt%, and 1.0 wt% concentration were prepared by sintering at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 90 minutes in N2 atmosphere. The phosphors were ground in powdered form and were grouped in $100{\mu}m$ size, then the samples had been exposed to low energy X-ray and UV light. The TL glow curves were measured by heating the phosphors at $10^{\circ}C/s$ rate. There was no significantly meaningful correlation between the TL intensity and the doping level. The intensities of the TL peak measured from X-ray irradiated samples doped with 0.1 wt% were relatively strong. The activation energy and the frequency factor were 0.434 ~ 0.516 eV and 0.5 ~ 0.56, respectively. The intensities of the TL peak measured from UV irradiated samples doped with 0.3 wt% were relatively strong. The activation energy and frequency factor were 0.415 ~ 0.477 eV and 0.5 ~ 0.53, respectively. The TL process were found to be the 2nd order for both X-ray and UV irradiation. The TL intensity was increased linearly with the increase of the radiation dose. In summary, the $Ca_2SiO_4 phosphors developed in this study showed good TL characteristics at low energy X-ray and UV light. We believe they will be used as TLDs in near future for personal and environmental radiation detection dosimetry.
