The Study Application of Identification Based on Small Units USN(Ubiquitous Sensor Network) (소부대급 USN 기반 전장감시체계 적용 방안)

  • Although some large units, upper than division, have a identification system, most of them depend on US military. Especially, the company unit can not but execute GOP(General OutPost) guidance and battles inefficiently because they apply the method of conventional identification system. urrently, North Korea causes the high tension of peninsular by experimenting nuclear weapons and launching ICBM(Intercontinental Ballistic Missile). In addition, ROK military will reduce the number of personnel and division through reorganizing the structure into NCW (Network Centric Warfare) until 2020. These unstable situation and future tendency require the high technical identification system based on USN(Ubiquitous Sensor Network) in company unit level. his study suggests the method that the company unit apply the identification system based on USN which distinguish between friend and foe in the warfare. The identification system concludes the results through experiment of military analysis model (AWAM; Army Weapon effectiveness Analysis Model). After analyzing the experiment results, it indicates the budget requirement and operational operability of identification system. This will be able to improves battle efficiency and to prevent damages of friendly forces.

  • In Ubiquitous Sensor Network (USN), the sensor nodes are required to consume their energy evenly to prolong the lifetime of the entire sensor network because of the limited energy of the sensor node. AODV which is applied to USN as routing protocol selects route according to only the shortest distance of the minimum hop count but regardless of the remaining battery power for each node. Thus it comes to ill-balanced power consumption seriously. In this paper, a scheme that controls packet relay quantity of each sensor node adaptively to prevent traffic overhead at a certain node and to increase the entire network lifetime is proposed. As it is analyzed by simulations, the proposed scheme enhances USN lifetime by balancing each sensor node's packet relay quantity.

  • Recently, many interests on the ubiquitous environment and the practical technologies associated with it have been significantly increasing along with the rapid development of wireless technologies. The development of the automated systems based on the ubiquitous environment is required as the concept of the term "ubiquitous" is integrated into the fields of existing IT. In this paper, we design and implement a power-saving management system using RFID/USN technologies. It efficiently manages the power consumption of the electronic machine such as electric lights, electric heaters, and air conditioners in a building. The proposed system controls the electronic machines and monitors their status by RFID and collects the real time information about the surroundings and power consumption of the electronic machines by USN. Especially, it analyzes the real time information and supports the intelligent scheduler with the best power-saving. Finally, this paper shows the difference between the proposed system and the existing systems and the reality of our system through the real time user interface about the power-saving management.

USN's Efforts to Rebuild its Combat Power in an Era of Great Power Competition (강대국 간의 경쟁시대와 미 해군의 증강 노력)

  • The purpose of this paper is to look at USN's efforts to rebuild its combat power in the face of a reemergence of great powers competition, and to propose some recommendations for the ROKN. In addition to the plan to augment its fleet towards a 355-ships capacity, the USN is pursuing to improve exponentially combat lethality(quality) of its existing fleet by means of innovative science and technology. In other words, the USN is putting its utmost efforts to improve readiness of current forces, to modernize maintenance facilities such as naval shipyards, and simultaneously to invest in innovative weapons system R&D for the future. After all, the USN seems to pursue innovations in advanced military Science & Technology as the best way to ensure continued supremacy in the coming strategic competition between great powers. However, it is to be seen whether the USN can smoothly continue these efforts to rebuild combat strength vis-a-vis its new competition peers, namely China and Russian navy, due to the stringent fiscal constraints, originating, among others, from the 2011 Budget Control Act effective yet. Then, it seems to be China's unilateral and assertive behaviors to expand its maritime jurisdiction in the South China Sea that drives the USN's rebuild-up efforts of the future. Now, some changes began to be perceived in the basic framework of the hitherto regional maritime security, in the name of declining sea control of the USN as well as withering maritime order based on international law and norms. However, the ROK-US alliance system is the most excellent security mechanism upon which the ROK, as a trading power, depends for its survival and prosperity. In addition, as denuclearization of North Korea seems to take significant time and efforts to accomplish in the years to come, nuclear umbrella and extended deterrence by the US is still noting but indispensible for the security of the ROK. In this connection, the naval cooperation between ROKN and USN should be seen and strengthened as the most important deterrents to North Korean nuclear and missile threats, as well as to potential maritime provocation by neighboring countries. Based on these observations, this paper argues that the ROK Navy should try to expand its own deterrent capability by pursuing selective technological innovation in order to prevent this country's destiny from being dictated by other powers. In doing so, however, it may be too risky for the ROK to pursue the emerging, disruptive innovative technologies such as rail gun, hypersonic weapon... etc., due to enormous budget, time, and very thin chance of success. This paper recommends, therefore, to carefully select and extensively invest on the most cost-effective technological innovations, suitable in the operational environments of the ROK. In particular, this paper stresses the following six areas as most potential naval innovations for the ROK Navy: long range precision strike; air and missile defense at sea; ASW with various unmanned maritime system (UMS) such as USV, UUV based on advanced hydraulic acoustic sensor (Sonar) technology; network; digitalization for the use of AI and big data; and nuclear-powered attack submarines as a strategic deterrent.

USN Secure Communication Design Using Chaotic System Feedback Synchronization (혼돈계의 피드백 동기화를 이용한 USN 보안통신 설계)

  • Ubiquitous services for the convenience and safety of human beings along with the development of society are being realized through RFID technology and sensor network, and its application range of fields is also broaden. However, since the USN contains all the information of individuals and things, all of its private spaces can be attacked by external attacks; so, that the problem of security continues to arise. We designed a one-way chaotic feedback synchronization method as a secure communication method to fit the USN composed of one sync node and n number of sensor nodes. We designed the method by which the sensor node is synchronized in one direction of the sync node. This method solves the problem that all sensor nodes need to be resynchronized when the sync node is changed, which is shown in bidirectional synchronization. This is a security method that can be effectively applied to 1:n communication such as USN.

  • For widespread adoption for the RFID technology, RFID middleware is considered as the key enabler of the RFID evolution while it manages the flow of data between tag readers and enterprise applications and is responsible for the quality, and therefore usability, of the information. In this paper, we introduce the recent researches and developments of RFID middleware and explain the software framework of the RFID middleware which is currently developed in ETRI.   • RFID/USN is considered as a key convergence technology in future ubiquitous network. In RFID/USN, the power saving issue receives a great attention due to limited battery lifetime of sensor node. In this paper, we propose a new power saving algorithm, which takes advantage of long-term sleep period. To provide a full network connectivity and balance the battery consumption among sensor nodes, the proposed algorithm intelligently selects the long-term sleep sensor nodes. With mathematical analysis and simulations, we prove that the proposed algorithm can significantly reduce the power consumption of sensor nodes as compared to existing algorithms.

RFID is an automatic identification method, relying on storing and remotely retrieving data using devices called RFID tags or transponders through RFID reader.   • An ubiquitous sensor network (USN) system to monitor the bio information and the emergency of the elderly in the silver town is presented. The USN system consists of the sensor node platforms based on MCU of Atmage128L and RF Chip of CC2420 satisfying IEEE 802.15.4, which includes the bios sensor module such as the electrocardiogram (ECG) sensor and the temperature sensor. Additionally, when an emergency of the elderly is occurred in the silver town, the routing algorithm suitable to find and inform the location of the elderly is proposed, and the proposed routing algorithm is applied to the USN. To collect and manage the ECG data at the PC connected to the sink node, LabView software is used. The bio information and the emergency of the elderly can also be monitored at the client PC by TCP/IP networks in the USN system.

  • There are some technologies such as USN, RFID, Home-network to advance the ubiquitous era. Those technologies embody Context-Awareness System. To Context-Awareness System is that human, objects and environment supply information with cable and wireless at real time. So private information, information privacy, a wide sense privacy will be faced on serious menace. In this article, I analyze threat of private information in Context-Awareness System under USN(ubiquitous Sensing Network) surroundings and present technology to protect private information. Each technology can apply subdivided protection province information privacy. I expect definition of information privacy, insight through technological presentation and total solution in this article.
