  • The purpose of the Monte Carlo simulation study was to provide the optimized nozzle design to satisfy the beam conditions for biomedical researches in the Korean heavy-ion accelerator, RAON. The nozzle design was required to produce $C^{12}$ beam satisfying the three conditions; the maximum field size, the dose uniformity and the beam contamination. We employed the GEANT4 toolkit in Monte Carlo simulation to optimize the nozzle design. The beams for biomedical researches were required that the maximum field size should be more than $15{\times}15cm^2$, the dose uniformity was to be less than 3% and the level of beam contamination due to the scattered radiation from collimation systems was less than 5% of total dose. For the field size, we optimized the tilting angle of the circularly rotating beam controlled by a pair of dipole magnets at the most upstream of the user beam line unit and the thickness of the scatter plate located downstream of the dipole magnets. The values of beam scanning angle and the thickness of the scatter plate could be successfully optimized to be $0.5^{\circ}$ and 0.05 cm via this Monte Carlo simulation analysis. For the dose uniformity and the beam contamination, we introduced the new beam configuration technique by the combination of scanning and static beams. With the combination of a central static beam and a circularly rotating beam with the tilting angle of $0.5^{\circ}$ to beam axis, the dose uniformity could be established to be 1.1% in $15{\times}15cm^2$ sized maximum field. For the beam contamination, it was determined by the ratio of the absorbed doses delivered by $C^{12}$ ion and other particles. The level of the beam contamination could be achieved to be less than 2.5% of total dose in the region from 5 cm to 17 cm water equivalent depth in the combined beam configuration. Based on the results, we could establish the optimized nozzle design satisfying the beam conditions which were required for biomedical researches.

  • With increases in recent security requirements, biometric technology such as fingerprints, faces and iris recognitions have been widely used in many applications including door access control, personal authentication for computers, internet banking, automatic teller machines and border-crossing controls. Finger vein recognition uses the unique patterns of finger veins in order to identify individuals at a high level of accuracy. This paper proposes new device and methods for touchless finger vein recognition. This research presents the following five advantages compared to previous works. First, by using a minimal guiding structure for the finger tip, side and the back of finger, we were able to obtain touchless finger vein images without causing much inconvenience to user. Second, by using a hot mirror, which was slanted at the angle of 45 degrees in front of the camera, we were able to reduce the depth of the capturing device. Consequently, it would be possible to use the device in many applications having size limitations such as mobile phones. Third, we used the holistic texture information of the finger veins based on a LBP (Local Binary Pattern) without needing to extract accurate finger vein regions. By using this method, we were able to reduce the effect of non-uniform illumination including shaded and highly saturated areas. Fourth, we enhanced recognition performance by excluding non-finger vein regions. Fifth, when matching the extracted finger vein code with the enrolled one, by using the bit-shift in both the horizontal and vertical directions, we could reduce the authentic variations caused by the translation and rotation of finger. Experimental results showed that the EER (Equal Error Rate) was 0.07423% and the total processing time was 91.4ms.

  • In previous researches for iris feature extraction, they transform a original iris image into rectangular one by stretching and interpolation, which causes the distortion of iris patterns. Consequently, it reduce iris recognition accuracy. So we are propose the method that extracts iris feature by using polar coordinates without distortion of iris patterns. Our proposed method has three strengths compared with previous researches. First, we extract iris feature directly from polar coordinate circular iris image. Though it requires a little more processing time, there is no degradation of accuracy for iris recognition and we compares the recognition performance of polar coordinate to rectangular type using by Hamming Distance, Cosine Distance and Euclidean Distance. Second, in general, the center position of pupil is different from that of iris due to camera angle, head position and gaze direction of user. So, we propose the method of iris feature detection based on polar coordinate circular iris region, which uses pupil and iris position and radius at the same time. Third, we overcome override point from iris patterns by using polar coordinates circular method. each overlapped point would be extracted from the same position of iris region. To overcome such problem, we modify Gabor filter's size and frequency on first track in order to consider low frequency iris patterns caused by overlapped points. Experimental results showed that EER is 0.29%, d' is 5,9 and EER is 0.16%, d' is 6,4 in case of using conventional rectangular image and proposed method, respectively.

  • DGPS Reference station is established in Korea for improvement of GPS navigation accuracy and needs of integrity. Recently, DGPS stations provide user positioning information on land as well as ocean. However, this paper investigated visibility and interference environment for performance degradation of Chung-ju DGPS reference station. In case of Young-do reference station, visibility and interference environment were satisfied with reference standard. In case of Chung-ju reference station, visibility was satisfied with 7 degree elevation angle. However, interference environment was not satisfied with reference standard of -50dBm. This paper proposed time differential measurement analysis method excluding error of signal noise for analyzing measurement error. Chung-ju reference station measurement analysis result is three times the error than on Young-do in Dec, 2015. In addition, this paper has confirmed measurement performance degradations because of reference station equipment problem. Future study will be carried out performance analysis of 17 DGPS reference station.

  • This paper presents the user-interactive productivity analysis model based on material balance as well as deliverability equations equipped with EOS model to perform a productivity analysis for Gorae V structure, Donghae-1 gas field. This model is designed to be able to analyse the productivity in the case of reservoir contacting with the aquifer. Also, in order to investigate the effect of condensation on productions, condensation phenomenon is considered as an apparent skin effect in the computation of bottomhole pressure from average reservoir pressure. By utilizing the developed model, we investigate the productivity analysis for B2 layer of Garae V structure with the various production cases in volumetric and nonvolumetric reservoirs that contact with aquifer. From the results in the case of 5500 MMSCF/year of production and reservoir-aquifer contacting angle 270$^{\circ}C$ with aquifer size of 10 times greater than reservoir, B2 layer could maintain peak production rate even after 8.5 years of production by considering the bottomhole pressure which is estimated above the operating pressure of 1298 psia. It is also found that condensate will be formed after 1100 days of production and existed throughout the reservoir at 1270 days. Note that the computed reservoir pressure of B2 layer is maintained sufficiently high enough for production due to the water influx into the reservoir, and skin effect caused by condensation is not significant.

  • Since LIDAR is advantageous for accurate information acquisition and realization of a high-resolution 3D image based on characteristics that can be precisely measured, it is essential to autonomous navigation systems that require acquisition and judgment of accurate peripheral information without user intervention. Recently, as an autonomous navigation system applying LIDAR has been utilized in human living space, it is necessary to solve the eye-safety problem, and to make reliable judgment through accurate obstacle recognition in various environments. In this paper, we construct a single-shot LIDAR system (SSLs) using a 1550-nm eye-safe light source, and report the analysis method and results of LIDAR signals for various measurement environments, reflective materials, and material angles. We analyze the signals of materials with different reflectance in each measurement environment by using a 5% Al reflector and a building wall located at a distance of 25 m, under indoor, daytime, and nighttime conditions. In addition, signal analysis of the angle change of the material is carried out, considering actual obstacles at various angles. This signal analysis has the merit of possibly confirming the correlation between measurement environment, reflection conditions, and LIDAR signal, by using the SNR to determine the reliability of the received information, and the timing jitter, which is an index of the accuracy of the distance information.

  • This study deals with the design and development of imaging optics having 24mm focal length for MWIR ($3{\sim}5{\mu}m$) with two symmetrical lenses facing each other. We used CodeV in our optical design, and we performed the optimization process to have the resolution and angle of view satisfying the user's requirements. The materials of lenses were limited to two types, including KCIR035 with a refractive index of 1.7589, developed in Korea. The optical system designed in this way consists of two aspherical lenses made of KCIR035 material having the same shape and one spherical lens made of Si. Here, the arrangement of the two aspherical lenses is characterized by having a symmetrical structure facing each other. And this optical system has a resolution of MTF value of 0.35 or more at a line width of 20 lp / mm. Therefore, it is considered that this optical system has the capability to be applied to a thermal imaging camera using a $206{\times}156$ array MWIR detection device having a pixel size of $25{\mu}m$.

  • Recently, the development of image processing technology, as well as hardware performance, has been continuing the research on 3D point processing technology that provides users with free viewing angle and stereoscopic effect in various fields. Point cloud technology, which is a type of representation of 3D point, has attracted attention in various fields because it can acquired/expressed point precisely. However, since Hundreds of thousands, millions of point are required to represent one 3D point cloud content, there is a disadvantage that a larger amount of storage space is required than a conventional 2D content. For this reason, the MPEG (Moving Picture Experts Group), an international standardization organization, is continuing to research how to efficiently compress, store, and transmit 3D point cloud content to users. In this paper, a V-PCC bitstream generated by a V-PCC (Video-based Point Cloud Compression) encoder proposed by the MPEG-I (Immersive) group is composed of an MPU (Media Processing Unit) defined by the MMT. In addition, by extending the signaling message defined in the MMT standard, a parameter for a segmented transmission method of the 3D point cloud content by area and quality parameters considering the characteristic of the 3D point cloud content, so that the quality parameters can be selectively determined according to the user's request. Finally, in this paper, we verify the result through design/implementation of the verification platform based on the proposed technology.

  • The Radar Cross Section (RCS) is a virtual region indicating the strength of a wavelength at which a radar signal is reflected and received. As the ship's RCS represents its own stealth performance and survivability, efforts have been made in various areas from design to construction to reduce the RCS. The RCS can be predicted using design drawings and CAD models, but it is necessary to measure the RCS at sea since sea clutter and multipath reflections occur in the sea environment. However, such RCS predictions and measured values provide only a simple relative magnitude to the user, and there has not been much research on this topic. In this paper, a missile countermeasure technique was studied using 3D RCS measurement data in an operating environment. The elevation and azimuth angle of the ship viewed from the missile were estimated using the location information of the missile, and the RCS value was inverted by mapping it to previously measured 3D RCS measurement data. In addition, by using the movement information of the missile, the RCS observed by the missile could be predicted in advance, and this method can be used to propose a response plan based on the maneuvering and chaff system.
