The Strategies for Evolutionary Properties of User Interfaces (진화론적 발전 속성에 따른 UI 진화 전략)

  • UI (User Interface)는 끊임없이 진화한다. 사용자의 새로운 요구 사항을 만족시키기 위해, 기존 UI에 대한 불편 사항을 해결하기 위해, 경쟁 제품의 더 좋은 UI를 따라 잡기 위해, 그리고 새로운 기술로 기존에는 불가능했던 것이 가능해 짐으로 인해, UI는 지속적으로 더 좋은 방향으로 변화하고 있다. 특히 휴대폰과 같이 라이프사이클이 짧은 제품의 UI는 매 제품마다 UI를 변화시킬 수 없기 때문에 기업 입장에서의 전략적인 접근이 중요해 진다. 더욱이 충분한 검증 없이 이루어진 진화의 방향은 사용자가 원하는 방향과 일치하지 않게 되어 오히려 퇴화하는 문제도 발생할 수 있다. 본 논문은 UI가 생성, 유지, 융합, 소멸되어 가는 진화론적 발전 속성 및 그러한 속성에 영향을 주는 요소들을 살펴보고, 라이프사이클이 짧은 제품의 UI를 개선할 때 어떤 전략을 취하는 것이 기업 차원에서 좋은지를 설명한다. UI 진화 전략은 크게 점진적 개선을 추구하는 구릉식 전략과 한번에 도약하는 계단식 전략으로 나눌 수 있다. 위 두 전략들은 사용자 만족도, 개선에 필요한 비용과 그 가치, 개선 후의 리스크 (Risk)에 따라 장단점을 가진다. 결론적으로 본 논문에서는 두 전략 모두 서로 상반되는 장단점을 가지므로, 어느 한 전략을 취하기 보다는 UI 요소의 특성 및 변화의 규모에 따라 두 전략을 혼용하는 전략이 기업 입장에서 최적의 전략임을 주장한다.

  • Viewpoint about the quality of software is various. But, from the end-user point of view, user interface of software may be all to express the quality of software. But the detailed evaluation criteria were not established about usability evaluation method based on user interface so far, though user interface of software is the main object of usability quality characteristics. In this paper, we established a system about the method extracting and evaluating some quality characteristics elements measurable form user interface of software by analyzing the relationship between the elements constructing quality characteristics and user interface related to quality evaluation of software. We expect that this result of study will be a fundamental study adapting and evaluating to various types of user interface.

  • 국내 휴대 단말기기(Mobile Phone, PDA 및 DMB 폰 등)의 하드웨어적 컨버젼스 기술은 국제 경쟁력을 충분히 확보하고 세계 시장에서 선두 역할을 수행하고 있으나, 휴대 단말기기에 필수적으로 구성되어지는 UI(User Interface)는 상대적으로 낙후된 실정이다. 이에 따라 3차원 그래픽 UI의 구현과 휴대 단말기기의 이벤트에 반응하는 3차원 아바타 시스템 개발을 통해 경쟁력 있는 소프트웨어적 컨버젼스 시대의 대비는 필수적이며, 본 논문에서는 휴대 단말기에서 3차원 UI의 구현 뿐 아니라 쉽고 빠르게 UI를 구축 할 수 있는 Authoring Tool 개발의 시급성을 인식하여 연구를 진행하고 있다.

User Interface Model Based Automatic Mobile Web Application Generation Tool for Embedded Systems (내장형 시스템을 위한 사용자 인터페이스 모델 기반 모바일 웹앱 자동 생성 도구)

  • This paper presents a tool that automatically generates mobile web applications from user interface (UI) models which are based on PELUM (Pattern and Event based Logical User Interface Modeling). PELUM is a method for the effective development of UI-centered embedded systems via UI modeling. The proposed tool consists of a model editor and a code generator. The former provides an environment for modeling a Logical UI Model (LUM) and a Programming Interface Model (PIM) on the web. On the other hand, the code generator sets the screen configuration and events' behavior, according to the LUM, synthesizing a local database schema according to the PIM, and then generates an executable mobile web app. It also can produce mashup web apps by receiving an open API address via the PIM. The generated mobile web apps follow the Model-View-Controller (MVC) architecture in order for users to easily customize them. The proposed tool enables them to generate mobile web apps that can be executed on various devices by modeling logical UIs on the web.

  • The christian communities have been maintained and spreaded based on the great foundation of the holy bible. The printing and publishing technology made the holy bible popular at the end of the middle age. Namely, because of this remarkable development, the Bible have been became the best seller for centuries. Since the smart phone users have been growing, the number of people use the Bible Application have been increased. In this circumstance, the interface becomes a crucial element in the Age of Digital Media. Thus, developers have to regard the user's convenient. The user's characteristic is the important point to develop applications. This study is focusing on a particular using of the Bible, and how the using characteristic affects on application's UI. For this study, five bible applications reflecting particular using characteristics are chosen and compared in terms of function of services and elements of UI. Form this comparison and analysis, this study deduces the pattern of UI considering particular using characteristics such as patterns of reading, recording, sharing, and searching the bible. This study would be useful data for publications formed into applications and setting the UI which reflected the using characteristics be better user-centered.

Universal User Interface Design of ATM Touch Screen Based on the Reaction Time

  • Objective: This study is concerned with the user interface (UI) design of touch screen based on the reaction time of Automated Teller Machine (ATM) user. Background: Adopting the touch screen technology, the ATM service has recently established a new user interface different from the existing button-type interface. Method: Experiments were conducted by simulating ATM touch screen layouts, and layouts were focused on location of menu buttons (left and right, top and bottom), number of menu buttons (8 and 12 buttons). Results: The results show that there are significant differences in correction ratio and reaction time by user groups, types of menu location, and the number of buttons. Conclusion and Applications: The results of this study can be used to provide baseline information for the interface design of ATM touch screen and the age differences in reaction time.

Implementation of an User Interface Developing Tool for 3D Simulator (3차원 시뮬레이터의 사용자 인터페이스 개발 도구 구현)

  • 3D simulation programs or games on a smart phone and a personal computer have often employed 3D graphic processing techniques and 3D graphical views. However, the user interfaces in those 3D programs have sticked to take a typical 2D style user interface and thus the combination of a 2D user interface view and a 3D simulation view give us a mismatched sense. Since a 2D user interface has been based on the windows controls, it causes sometime DC conflicts between a simulation view and an interface view. Therefore, we will implement the UI developing tool which can be inserted into the pipeline structure for the development of a 3D simulation software and also follows the view-handler design pattern in Microsoft windows system. It will provide various graphical effects such as the deformation of UI depending on the view direction of simulation view and the sitting pose of user. This developing tool gives the natural user interface which heightens the sense of unity with a given 3D simulation view.
