  • This paper investigates the effects of firms' foreign market focus on the optimistic bias of analysts' earnings forecasts. Based on a sample of 852 U.S. manufacturing firms between 1994 and 2015, our empirical results suggest that higher growth of foreign market focus is associated with greater levels of analysts' forecast optimism. Drawing on the CEO career horizon and the upper echelon theory literature, we find evidence that CEOs' career horizon and functional background as a CFO moderates the relationship between the growth rate of foreign market focus and analysts' forecast optimism. This shows that while financial analysts perceive internationalization strategies as signaling growth potential, such perception can vary depending on CEOs' individual characteristics.

  • This study analyzed the impact of increasing orange imports on the domestic fruit markets, focusing on the period January to May when oranges were imported and sold intensively after implementation of the Korea-US FTA. In this study, only citrus fruits that compete with U.S. oranges were limited to domestic fruits; of these, Hallabong, which is consistent with consumption of U.S. oranges, was selected as an analysis target. A dynamic recursive simulation model was established to evaluate the ex-post effects of the Korea-U.S. FTA, and to conduct mid and long-term forecasts for the Hallabong market. In addition, major policy simulations were performed on the Hallabong market to assess the effect of each scenario. The ex-post impact evaluation reveals that between December and February, Hallabong had no effect on the seasonal tariff of oranges. However, from 2012 to 2017, the actual import decreased by 21.9 billion won annually due to the TRQ, with the accumulated 6-year decrease being 131.5 billion won. Major policy simulation analysis shows that the change in the unit cost of import due to the U.S orange crop and the increase of Hallabong export will help in expanding the market, and thus effectively increase income.

  • The world financial markets are inter-linked in ways that varies according to market and time. We examine the causality of change focusing on the Korean market as related to the U.S. (S&P 500), Japan (Nikkei 225), Hong-Kong (HSI), and European (DAX) markets. In order to capture time-varying causality running from and to the Korea stock market, we apply the Granger causality test under a VAR model with a wild bootstrap rolling-window approach. We also propose a new concept of a significant causality ratio to measure the intensity of the Granger causality in each time unit. There are many asymmetric strengths in mutual Granger causal relationships. Moreover, there are cases with significant Granger causal relations only in one direction. The period with the most severe Granger causality both running from and to the KOSPI market is the GFC. The market that formed the two-way Granger causal relationship with the KOSPI market for the longest period is the S&P 500. The HSI and DAX markets have the strongest two-way Granger causal relationship with the KOSPI shortly after 2000, and the Nikkei market had the strongest two-way Granger causal relationship with the KOSPI market before the Asian financial crisis.

In addition, it collected the information on consumer shopping behaviors through surveys in both Korea and the U.S., in order to: 1) compare the consumer behaviors between both countries, and 2) identify any correlations with demographic factors such as sex, age, marriage status, income, education. This was discovered by means of the collected data that in Korea there were the problefls related to the apparel products and the apparel size specification, and related to the p.c.-network. Also in Korea the department store companies do not have properly worked out size specifications and are more likely to use 'freesize' categories, while in the U.S. and Europe the reverse was found and the size specification gave more detailed information. Results of the questionnaire suggested that the U.S. was superior in the almost part of questionnaires especially in terms of the user's experience and satisfaction with catalogue & online order in apparel. Additionally, the U.S. had 2.5 times more catalogues and online sites and those were more frequently used compared to those in Korea. The consumer shopping behaviors in Korea showed a correlation with sex, age, job, marriage status and income. And there were significant correlations with education, sex and income in the U.S.

  • While ubiquitous healthcare (u-health) services were expected to propagate along with conventional healthcare services, recent progress indicated rather limited market acceptance. In this paper, we investigated the fundamental causes of why the consumer acceptance level of u-health services has been low. We draw upon innovation adoption theories to analyze the consumer readiness of the typical u-health services. The comparative analysis between innovative u-health services and conventional services was performed using analytic hierarchy process (AHP). Subsequently, policy and business implications including technological breakthrough insights were discussed based on the customer perspective comparative adoption analysis. The propositions captured through this study provide useful insight to further studies on u-health services.

  • With the recent acceleration in the adoption of IT in industries, converged Construction-IT has been drawing attention as a new market driver in the IT fusion industry. Despite the simultaneous implementation of U-Cities all over Korea in a manner suiting each city's own attributes, Technical Criteria to build an optimized IT-infrastructure have not yet been prepared. To solve this problem, a standard for U-City construction should be prepared. This research, therefore, draw sample contents in order to establish and verify the criteria for U-City construction. The findings are expected to be meaningful, in that they would serve as significant data for establishing the criteria for future U-City construction.

  • The United States has a unique health care system, which is unlikely any other health care systems in the world. The major part of basic functional components of the system -financing, insurance, delivery, and payment- is in private hands. A market-oriented economy invites the participation of numerous private entities that are interested in carrying out the key functions of health systems. Due to this central feature, U.S.health care is not delivered through a network of interrelated components designed to work together coherently. For lack of standardization, the various components of the system fit together only loosely. The involvement of numerous players in the key functions leads to duplication, overlap, inadequacy, inconsistency, and waste, which add to the complexity and also make the system inefficient. Hence, cost containment remains an elusive goals. Moreover, the system falls short of delivering equitable services to all americans, though consumption of health care services is the largest in the world. On the other hand, United States leads the world in the latest and the best in medical technology, medical training, and research. It offers some of the most sophisticated institutions, products, and processes of health care delivery. This article discuss the characteristic features of the U.S. health care system. and its performance, trying to seek its implication on Korean health care system.
