  • Values can be regarded as an important factor which acts as an indicator showing each person's individual path of life. many researchers have suggested that values function as standards that guide thought and action. Values lead us to take particular positions on social issues and they predispose us to favor one perspective over another. Adolescence is an important period for the establishment of one's values. The values established during such a period become an important factor determining one's right personality and contents of life. In particular, it is important to take a study about the values possessed by gifted and talented children in Korea. There have been several researches regarding the cognitive and affective characteristics of gifted and talented learners in Korea. However, there has not been any research regarding their values in life. This study investigates the characteristics of values shown by 468 high-school students from two special schools for gifted students by using Schwartz's Value Survey Scale which is consisted of 57 value categories and 10 value types. According to the results of this study, the students from the special high-school for gifted children tend to promote such value types as 'autonomy' and 'stimulation' the most. Conversely, the same students tend to deny or ignore such value types as 'power' and 'tradition'. This study provides basic data regarding the values of gifted and talented students as the first research of its kind targeting gifted students in Korea. It has an important meaning for the research related to the characteristics shown by gifted students in Korea.

  • Due to the belief that housing for university students is uniform materialistic and non-human, a variety of needs and preferences of the residents is becoming more important. In order to more positively identify the user's emotional needs, a design that meets the needs of the resident's living space is absolutely necessary. The purpose of this study is to group the sensibility types of university students, to analyze the preferred interior image and interior design elements, and then to understand the preferred characteristics according to sensibility type. To collect the data, a survey method was used for 224 university students in Seoul and the metropolitan area. The data analysis used SPSS PC 14.0 to find the frequency, t-test, chi-square, factor analysis, and cluster analysis. The results of the analysis are as follows: First, sensibility types were segmented into four groups including 'Unique & Elegant', 'Static & Tidy', 'Warm & Comfortable', and 'Characteristic & Free'. Second, the preferred interior image was the Minimal-Dandy-Natural Image, the preferred floor_material was wood, and the preferred wall_material was marble. Third, there were different interior preferences according to each type of gender & sensibility.

  • This study analyzed the factors of stress perception and their patterns depending on the high school students from different types of high school, which include academic high schools and vocational high schools. The data reflected the degree of stress perception according to several factors, which are considered to be related to stress perception, and the study analyzed how differently these factors affected students in each school type. The subjects were 29,380 students from the 14th Korea Youth Health Behavior Survey who meet the purpose of this study. The factors related to stress perception were classified into general characteristics, health behavior characteristics, and health status characteristics. The factors of the study were compared in each group and between the groups. In both school types, stress perception was associated with a number of common factors and some group specific factors. The common main factors related to stress perception were depressive experience, subjective recognition of their health status, subjective recognition of sleep satisfaction, and gender. However, the pattern in which each factor was related to stress perception differed according to the school types. Therefore, efforts should be made to reflect the characteristics of each school type while considering the common factors related to stress perception when making policies for managing high school students' stress.

  • In this study, the types and the characteristics of students' responses to anomalous data were investigated. The criteria for classifying students' responses were 'acceptance of validity of anomalous data', 'acceptance of inconsistency between anomalous data and initial theory', and 'change of belief in initial theory'. Seven types of responses were identified as follows: Rejection, reinterpretation, exclusion, uncertainty, peripheral theory change, partial belief change, and theory change. Absolute belief in the intial theory and doubts about methodological accuracy were found to be the major reasons for rejecting anomalous data. The students did not accept the inconsistency between anomalous data and initial theory because they ignored the experimental procedures and focused on the similarity of the experimental results.
